Victims’ Families Refuse To Identify Slain Militant ‘Behind’ Dhangri Attack

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Following the killing of a militant by security forces in the Kandi area of Rajouri on Saturday morning, families of victims from the Dhangri attack refused to identify the slain ultra, The Tribune reported.

The Army believes that the militant was responsible for the targeted killings of Hindus in Dhangri village, where seven civilians were killed and 15 others injured.

When the police informed the victims’ kin that one of the suspected attackers had been killed in the Kesari hills forest area of Kandi, it provided little relief for the families. They want the police to identify those who provided specific information about Hindu homes in the village, as there are also Muslim homes in the vicinity.

The village Sarpanch, Dheeraj Sharma while speaking to The Tribune, stated that no family of victims went to identify the slain militant, and everyone believes that there was someone else who informed the attackers about the Hindu families living in the village.

The police had sent a vehicle to take victims’ families to identify the militant, but everyone is of the view that the real culprits are still at large. During the Dhangri attack, two women saw the attackers on a killing spree. One of the women, whose close relative was shot dead, said that they are not safe until the police identify those who helped the militants launch the attack.

It has been reported that the Dhangri attackers stayed at a woman’s house in Bathuni village in Rajouri. She has identified the dead militant to be one of those who attacked Dhangri.

However, the police or NIA has not confirmed this. Meanwhile, the search for the group of armed terrorists continues in the thick vegetation area of Kandi.

On Friday, after the Army received specific information about the presence of militants, an operation was launched that resulted in the killing of five soldiers.

New Delhi: Twitter launched its verification system in 2009 to protect celebrities from impersonation but now, Elon Musk wants everyone to pay for the Blue badge, and the move has not gone well with several celebrities on the platform.

Musk now wants everyone to pay $8 a month (Rs 900 in India a month) for verified Blue check marks, and all legacy Blue badges are set to go away any moment.

The White House and The New York Times have already refused to pay for verified Blue with subscription service.

LeBron James, the highest-paid NBA player of all time and earning over $40 million per year, refused to pay Twitter.

“Welp guess my blue check mark will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5,” he posted on the platform.

Actor William Shatner tweeted at Musk: “Now you’re telling me that I have to pay for something you gave me for free? What is this – the Columbia Records & Tapes Club?”

Michael Thomas, a wide receiver for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, posted: “Don’t nobody want that raggedy blue check no way anymore”.

Activist-lawyer Monica Lewinsky posted a set of screenshots showing several Twitter accounts impersonating her.

“Well this is going to be fun. In what universe is this fair to people who can suffer consequences for being impersonated? A lie travels halfway around the world before truth even gets out the door”, she posted.

Meanwhile, Musk-run Twitter has removed the Blue badge of The New York Times, barely a week after he announced a new policy for keeping verification badges.

  • Delhi police refuse permission to Congres for observing ‘satyagraha’

Delhi police refuse permission to Congres for observing ‘satyagraha’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has denied permission to the Congress for holding ‘satyagraha’ at Rajghat to protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha, officials said on Sunday.

In a letter, the Delhi Police said the request was rejected due to law and order and traffic reasons and prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC imposed in and around Rajghat.

A senior police officer told PTI that while permission for holding the satyagraha has been denied, adequate security arrangements have been put in place.

The Congress has announced plans to hold a day-long satyagraha in front of Gandhi statues at all states and district headquarters on Sunday to protest against Gandhi’s disqualification.

Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a court in Gujarat’s Surat convicted him in a 2019 defamation case. The disqualification will bar Gandhi (52), a four-time MP, from contesting polls for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction.

  • Shopkeepers refuse to accept Rs 1, Rs 2 coins in parts of Kashmir

    [ad_1]

    Umaisar Gull Ganie

Srinagar, Feb 28: People from many parts of South Kashmir are complaining that shopkeepers and traders aren’t accepting Rs 1, Rs 2 coins, a claim rightly rejected by the J&K Bank authorities.

People from different parts of Kashmir told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that whenever they visit shops to buy matchboxes or other items, shopkeepers aren’t accepting the coins of Rs 1 and Rs 2. They even complained that cleaners of passenger vehicles aren’t also accepting the coins.

They said for the last several months, many people including shopkeepers, traders and the general public are not accepting one rupee, two rupee coins citing the reason that others are not taking it too. It has become like an unauthorised ban on small coins by some locals which is continuing especially in Southern Kashmir’s Anantnag and Kulgam districts, they said.

“I have hundreds of such coins, where should I spend them when no one is taking them from me. That is why I have stopped accepting them too,” Aqib Ahad, a local shopkeeper from Qazigund, said.

People demanded that the government must issue directions in this regard and action must be taken against the people who aren’t accepting the coins. They demanded that the government must clear the confusion at an earliest.

An official from administration told KNO that it is an offence to refuse the currencies issued by the government and action will be taken against those who are not accepting such coins.

Taking to KNO, Managing Director and CEO J&K Bank, Baldev Prakash said all our Bank branches are accepting one and two rupee coins and people can deposit them in any bank branch. On being asked why some people are not accepting it, he said it is responsibility of administration to take call on this—(KNO)
