I’m reduced to dust, spare my family, pleads gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: “I am totally reduced to dust, but please don’t trouble the women and children of my family now,” gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad told reporters from inside a police van on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “mafiaaon ko mitti me mila denge” warning probably playing on his mind.

The 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MLA, who faces more than 100 cases in Uttar Pradesh, was taken from the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad to a prison in Prayagraj, more than 1000 kms away, by road in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.

The police convoy taking Ahmad to Prayagraj left the Sabarmati Jail on Tuesday evening and entered into the Uttar Pradesh border from Jhansi at around 8.45 am. The convoy reached the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj around 6 pm.

    MS Education Academy

While he was on the way, he spoke to the mediapersons from inside the police van. He pleaded the government to spare his family members, who are co-accused in several cases.

“Hum aapke jariye government se kehna chahte hain, bulkul mitti me mil gaye hain ab hamari auraoton aur bachchon ko pareshan na karein. (I want to tell the government through you (the media) that I am totally reduced to dust, but please don’t trouble the women and children of my family now,” Ahmad told a news channel from inside his police van between Jhansi and Prayagraj.

He will be produced before a court in Prayagraj on Thursday in the Umesh Pal murder case.

After Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder of former BSP MLA Raju Pal in which Ahmad is an accused, was shot dead outside his residence in Prayagraj on February 24 this year Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said “mafiaaon ko mitti me mila denge (will reduce the mafia to dust)”.

“Mafiagiri toh pahle hi samapth ho gyi, ab toh ragada ja raha hai. Mafia-giri has already ended, now I am being hounded,” Ahmad said, when asked about his criminal acts.

Ahmad last month moved the Supreme Court for protection, claiming he and his family have been falsely implicated as accused in the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj and he may be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Asked about his son Asad, who is also wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, Ahmad said, “How would I know, I am in jail.”

Earlier, when his convoy was in Madhya Pradesh, Ahmad claimed he was being harassed in the Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat.

“My family is ruined. I am safe because of you,” he told the member of the press.

“I have not telephoned anyone from there (inside the jail) as jammers were installed there. I have not hatched any conspiracy and am behind bars for the last six years,” he said.

After Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were killed, his wife Jaya Pal filed a complaint against Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others.

The Uttar Pradesh Police had on March 26 also taken Ahmad from the Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj to produce him in a court. On March 28, the court there had sentenced Ahmad and two others to life imprisonment in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case.

Ahmad was brought back to the high-security jail in Gujarat in a UP police van on March 29, after a nearly 24-hour-long road journey from Prayagraj.

In 2006, Atiq Ahmad and his aides abducted Umesh Pal and forced him to give a statement in court in their favour. Umesh Pal had registered a complaint in this regard.

The Supreme Court had in April 2019 directed that Ahmad be shifted to a high-security jail in Gujarat after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault of a real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal while in jail.

Navjot Sidhu says his security reduced, calls Mann most protected CM

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday called Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann the “most protected CM” while slamming his AAP government for pruning slain singer Sidhu Moosewala’s security last year and his own security detail now.

Sidhu visited the Punjabi singer’s parents in Mansa district, expressing grief over the death of Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. He was shot dead on May 29 last year, after the Punjab Police temporarily pruned the security being given then to about 400 people.

The Congress leader came out of the Patiala Central Jail on Saturday after serving nearly 10 months in a 1988 road rage case.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the media here, with the singer’s parents beside him, the cricketer-turned-politician slammed the Aam Aadmi Party government over law and order.

Referring to Moosewala, Sidhu said, “He was global star. Why was his security pruned? Does it ever happen that you reduce security and make it public?”

“What happened with him, the same thing is happening with another Sidhu today,” he added, claiming that the Z Plus security he earlier got is now down to 13 personnel.

“I want to say that I am not afraid of death,” he added.

Sidhu claimed that Mann used to say there was no need for any security for him.”Today you are the most protected CM,” he said, adding that vehicles cannot be seen in the dust raised by his cavalcade.

He also raised questions over security in jail premises, referring to a purported TV interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while in prison. The state government has 2G mobile jammers while the gangsters have 5G phones, he claimed.

He said jails have turned into ‘suvidha centres’ or convenience points for crime because politicians use youths who have gone astray. Gangsters are being used “political pawns” now, he charged.

Moosewala joined the Congress in December 2021 when Sidhu was the chief of the party’s Punjab unit. He contested next year for the Mansa seat on a Congress ticket, but lost.

The singer’s parents recently sat on a protest outside the Punjab Assembly complex, saying that the masterminds behind his murder were still on the run.

Sidhu, who was sentenced to a year in jail by the Supreme Court last year in a 1988 road rage case, targeted the BJP-led Centre on Saturday, saying that democracy is in fetters.

He also claimed that a conspiracy is being hatched to impose President’s Rule in Punjab.

“We are trying to implement everything fast,” he said.

After September, three suicides occurred in Madras IIT. The IIT Director has pointed out 4 reasons why suicides are taking place in educational institutions. We request everyone that suicide is not a solution for anything. In future, there should be no suicide”.

Group activities were reduced during the COVID period typically during the lockdown 2020 – 2021. Students who joined that time after their schooling never met their seniors and classrooms and they were alone at that time. This is a big challenge for us,” he said.

  • Macron lays out ‘new era’ for France’s reduced presence in Africa

Macron lays out ‘new era’ for France’s reduced presence in Africa

    [ad_1]

    france macron africa 89677

French President Emmanuel Macron called on Monday for his country to build “a new, balanced relationship” with Africa, as the former colonial power seeks to reduce its military presence on the continent.

“The objective of this new era is to deploy our security presence in a partnership-based approach,” Macron said in a speech in Paris, ahead of a tour that will take him to Gabon, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo later this week.

In the future, French military bases on the continent will be “co-administered” with local personnel, the French president said, while there will be a “visible decrease” in the number of French troops stationed in Africa over the next few months.

The news comes as France has faced increasing opposition from local governments over its continued military presence in several of its former colonies, and was forced to withdraw hundreds of troops from Mali, the Central African Republic and Burkina Faso over the past year. Around 5,000 French soldiers remain stationed on various bases throughout the continent.

But Paris’ waning influence — particularly in the Sahel region — has also allowed Russia to expand its reach in Africa, including in the digital sphere through the use of disinformation campaigns, as well as on the ground with mercenaries from the Wagner group, who in some cases have replaced French soldiers.

The French president said his country would steer away from “anachronistic” power struggles in Africa, saying African countries should be considered as “partners,” both militarily and economically.

“Africa isn’t [anyone’s] backyard, even less so a continent where Europeans and French should dictate its framework for development,” Macron said.

Minimum salary for expats to bring families reduced in Oman

    [ad_1]

Muscat: In a major step aimed at promoting family reunification and attracting skilled foreign workers, Oman has reduced the minimum salary requirement for expatriates to obtain a family visa, local media reported.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said the salary threshold for family visas has been reduced by more than 50 per cent.

As per a report by Times of Oman, previously, expatriates had to earn 600 OMR (Rs 1,29,087) per month to obtain visas for family members. Now, need to earn just 300 OMR (Rs 64,543) per month to qualify for a dependent visa.

The new policy also empowers sponsors to determine their family status as they can better assess their ability to support their family in Oman.

The reduction in the salary ceiling is expected to have a positive impact on the welfare of expatriate workers and their families as they can now reunite and build a more stable life in Oman.

The decision to reduce the salary requirement is expected to provide a significant boost to the Omani economy by attracting skilled workers.
