  • Taliban warn Pakistan against targeting militants in Afghanistan

Taliban warn Pakistan against targeting militants in Afghanistan

KABUL (Reuters) – The Taliban has given a harsh admonition to Pakistan, forewarning against any tactical activity focusing on aggressors inside Afghan region. This assertion comes in the midst of developing worries over cross-line tasks that might actually raise pressures in the all around delicate district.

The admonition from the Taliban was conveyed through their representative, Zabiullah Mujahid, during a public interview in Kabul on Monday. Mujahid expressed, “We have seen with extraordinary concern the new exercises of Pakistan’s security powers along the Afghan-Pakistani line. We emphatically ask Pakistan to abstain from any activities that could prompt the infringement of Afghan sway.”

This statement follows reports of expanded Pakistani military tasks close to the boundary with Afghanistan. While Pakistan has reliably declared that its endeavors are pointed toward annihilating fanatic components inside its own lines, Afghan authorities have communicated anxiety about the vicinity of these tasks to the Afghan domain.

Pakistan, a vital provincial player, shares a permeable boundary with Afghanistan that stretches for north of 2,600 kilometers (1,615 miles). This line has been a wellspring of worry for the two nations as it has generally worked with the development of aggressors, bootleggers, and evacuees.

The Taliban, presently in charge of Afghanistan, has reliably expressed its obligation to guaranteeing that Afghan soil isn’t utilized as a base for assaults against some other country. Mujahid underlined this in his articulation, saying, “We have done whatever it takes to forestall any unfriendly exercises beginning from An afghan area. We anticipate our neighbors, including Pakistan, to regard our sway and work towards territorial dependability.”

The circumstance has provoked global spectators to call for limitation on the two sides. The Unified Countries and a few nations have encouraged political channels to be the essential method for settling any worries connected with cross-line security.

Pakistan has not given a prompt reaction to the Taliban’s advance notice. In any case, it has kept up with that its activities are fundamental for public safety and that it stays focused on helping out Afghanistan in the battle against psychological oppression.

This most recent improvement highlights the mind boggling and delicate nature of the Afghan-Pakistani relationship. As Afghanistan explores its new political scene under Taliban rule, dealing with these provincial elements will without a doubt be really difficult for both Kabul and Islamabad

  • Attack on Christians in India and Pakistan

Attack on Christians in India and Pakistan

A hallmark of a civilised society is that minorities therein can live with dignity and honour. The recent attacks on Christians (and other minorities ) in India and Pakistan show that neither country is really civilised.

Christians in India and Pakistan are tiny minorities in both countries, about 28 million or 2.3% of the total population of about 1400 million in India, and about 1.27 million or 1.65% of the total population of about 230 million in Pakistan. They are peace loving people who have never done any harm to other communities. Rather, they have made a great contribution, particularly in the field of education, where many non Chistians prefer to send their children to Christian schools ( myself being a product of one of them, the Boys High School, Allahabad ).

Yet savage attacks have been made on them in both countries, many of whom were killed, their women raped ( two of them paraded naked and beaten in Manipur ), and their churches and homes often torched and vandalised.

For instance, recently in the state of Manipur the minority Christian Kuki community were barbarically attacked by the majority Meitei community ( most of whom are Hindus ), supported by the state government which is ruled by the pro-Hindu BJP party, which also rules the Central Govt.

    https://www.opendoorsuk.org/news/latest-news/manipur-violence/

Elsewhere too in India Christians have been attacked, and atrocities committed on them.

Similar atrocities have been committed recently on Christians in Pakistan

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/8/20/pakistani-christians-hold-sunday-services-at-desecrated-churches

What drives these attacks on minorities ?

It is the majoritarian policy of the ruling party in India, which thrives on religious hatred, as it gets them votes.

And in Pakistan it is the free hand given to the mullahs and religious extremists given by the Establishment.

It is sad to say, but this situation will continue until there is a radical change in the political and social system in both countries, but that is still a far way off.

  • Pakistan has become a paagal khaana

Pakistan has become a paagal khaana

    By Justice Katju
I have been following developments in Pakistan on the social media for long, and now my mind has started spinning and my eyes boggling. Sometimes I feel like Alice in the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party ( see Lewis Carrol’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ ).

The latest event there really takes the cake. The President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, has tweeted that he did not sign two bills ( the Official Secrets Act Amendment Bill, and the Army Act Amendment Bill ), and instead he had directed his staff to return them to the government for reconsideration, but only later he learnt that they had become laws ( due to which further atrocities are being committed against the people of Pakistan ).

Arif Alvi said his staff had told him that as directed by him they had returned the Bills to the Government, but it has now transpired that they did not. If the President is correct, someone forged his signatures on the Bills, and the government notified them as laws, and they have been acted upon.

It seems everyone in Pakistan has become mad as a hatter.
There is a Cheshire Cat, to whom Alice asks ” What sort of people live here ? ”. The cat replies ” In this direction lives a Hatter, and in that direction lives a March Hare. Visit either you like : they are both mad ”

So visitors to Pakistan can go in any direction they wish. It will not matter, because the authorities, particularly the army officers and police, have gone mad everywhere.

And there is a judiciary, which keeps sleeping like the Dormouse, and has become a joke.

Alice went to see the trial of the Knave of Hearts, who stole some tarts.

The Queen shouted ” Off with his head ”. The King suggested that a trial be held first before the sentence, but the Queen kept shouting ” Sentence first, trial afterwards ”, and the accused were beheaded without a trial.

This is what is happening on a large scale in Pakistan. Tens of thousands of people have been imprisoned without a trial, their homes broke

into and ransacked, and many brutally tortured.
There is a Constitution in Pakistan, and lawyers in court keep arguing about the meaning of its provisions e.g. Article 224(2) which says that elections must be held within 90 days of dissolution of a state assembly. But what do the words in the Constitution mean ?

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

Humpty Dumpty is being followed in Pakistan. The Pakistan army is the master. The Constitution means what the army says it means

Urdu shaayari should be banned in Pakistan : Justice Katju

    By Justice Katju
Urdu shaayari should be banned as being unislamic in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
What else should be done to a poetry whose greatest poet Mirza Ghalib writes :
    ” Masjid ke zer-e-saaya kharaabaat chaahiye ”
    i.e.
” Below a mosque there should be a wine shop ”
( Wine is haraam or strictly prohibited in Islam ).
Or consider this sher of Ghalib :
” Imaan mjujhe roke hai jo khainche hai mujhe kufr
Kaaba mere peeche hai, kaleesa mere aage ”
    i.e.
” Faith is holding me back, disbelief in islam is pulling me forward
I have turned my back on the Kaaba, and looking towards the church ”
Or this sher by Ghalib :
” Kahaan maikhaane ka darwaza Ghalib aur kahaan waiz
Par itna jaante hain kal vo jaata tha ki hum nikle ”
    i.e.
” A pub and a religious scholar are poles apart
But yesterday when I entered the pub he was leaving ”
Consider this sher ( couplet ) of Mir Taqi Mir, another great Urdu poet :
” Mir ke deen-o-mazhab ko poochte kya ho, unne to
Kashka kheencha dair mein baitha kab ka tark Islam kiya ”.
    i.e.
” Why do you ask Mir’s religion ?
He has put on a tika ( mark on the forehead which Hindus make ), and sat in a
    Hindu temple
And renounced Islam long ago ”
And what about this sher of the Urdu poet Aatish :
” Fasl-e-bahaar aayi piyo sufiyon sharaab
Bas ho chuki namaaz musalla uthaiye ”
    i.e.
” The crop of spring has come, so Sufis drink wine
The namaaz is over, pick up the prayer carpet ( and drink ) ”
Another Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi writes :
” Aqaayad waham hai, mazhab khyaal-e-khaam hai saaqi
    Azal se zehn-e-insaan basta-e-auhaam hai saaqi ”
    i.e.
” Faiths are illusions, and religion is false imagination
Since eternity man’s mind has been bound by superstitions ”.
Numerous such examples of apostasy and blasphemy in Urdu poetry by well known poets can be given.
So I urge the Pakistan Parliament and Govt to quickly ban Urdu mushairas and study of Urdu poetry in educational institutions, and burn all Urdu poetry books, and declare all those who read or recite Urdu poetry as ‘murtads’ deserving the punishment meted out to murtads in Islam

IMF Grants $3 Billion Loan to Pakistan: A Cause for Celebration or Concern?

On knowing of the IMF decision to grant a 3 billion dollars loan to Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahabaz Sharif said repeatedly in a press conference ” Alhamdulillah ”.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fdu9qnr-08&pp=ygUXc2hhaGJheiBzaGFyaWYgaW1mIGxvYW4%3D

Many Pakistanis are gloating over this loan by the IMF as if it is the end to all their economic woes. The Pakistan stock exchange has rallied, currency exchange rate has improved, and there is an atmosphere of glee and revelry in some quarters.
However there is another, darker side to the picture.

It is a loan, not a gift. Pakistan already has external debt of over 126 billion dollars, to which this will be added.

    https://www.orfonline.org/research/debt-ad-infinitum-pakistans-macroeconomic-catastrophe/#:~:text=During%20April%2DJune%202023%2C%20the,burden%20is%20US%24%204.5%20billion

This loan will cover less than the cost of Pakistan’s monthly import bill.

Loans carry interest, and this fresh loan will add to the debt servicing bill, which is already very high ( about 4.5 billion dollars )

    https://www.brecorder.com/news/40247035
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2406940/cost-of-debt-servicing-up-to-rs318tr

The iMF reportedly set very strict conditions before granting this loan.
    For instance,
    (a) the heavy subsidy on electricity supplied will be removed. This will raise electricity rates to historic heights, affecting everyone in Pakistan.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhFXSw0MZMs&pp=ygUmcHJpY2VzIGluIHBha2lzdGFuIHJpc2UgYWZ0ZXIgaW1mIGxvYW4%3D
    (b) Duty on petroleum products will sharply increase
    (c) There will be 220 billion dollars worth additional taxes
    (d) Prices of essential commodities like food will rise

This reminds one of the situation in France before the French Revolution of 1789. The situation then was that the French monarchy was heavily in debt to foreign bankers ( mainly Dutch ). This was because of the heavy cost of supporting the American War of Independence (1775-81), and even more because of the great deficit between government income and expenditure ( primarily because, by feudal convention, the nobility could not be taxed ).

    https://courses.lumenlearning.com/suny-hccc-worldhistory2/chapter/efforts-at-financial-reform/

The French Finance Minister, Necker, who dared not tax the powerful nobles, took loans from foreign banks to pay the huge debt. His successor, Calonne, went even further. He initiated huge public spending, thinking this will impress the creditors into granting more loans.

However, this plan backfired, because the Dutch and other foreign bankers realised they would never recover the loans ( what to say of interest ), and so a time came when they outright refused to grant any further loans. This led to the calling of the Estates General in 1789 and the French Revolution, in which many heads rolled.

I am afraid the Shahbaz Sharif Govt is heading in the same directiion. Can a government run forever on foreign loans ? The people of Pakistan are already suffering terribly in the economic crisis which has gripped the country. Taxing them further, directly or indirectly, as the IMF loan in essence requires, may well break their backs

    Imran Khan Arrested

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The drama continues in Pakistan as the former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, was caught off guard and arrested while heading to his court hearing today. The 70-year-old ex-cricket star turned politician was taken into custody by paramilitary forces at the Islamabad High Court.

The PTI leaders claim that the police went full smash mode, breaking a glass window and forcibly dragging him outside while taking his biometric data. It gets even juicier as this all went down just one day after the army accused Khan of levelling false accusations against a top spy agency officer.

According to a tweet by the Islamabad Police, Imran Khan has been taken into custody in relation to the Qadir Trust case. This case involves allegations that Bahria Town granted land worth millions to Al-Qadir Trust, which is owned by Mr. Khan and his wife.

The police mentioned that the situation is currently “normal,” but the manner in which the arrest was carried out has caused many to question whether it was solely based on the merits of the case. The police also cautioned that Section 144 is in effect and violators will face consequences. Meanwhile, PTI has urged its supporters to take to the streets in protest.

In a tweet, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that Imran Khan had been issued multiple notices but failed to appear in court. Sanaullah also mentioned that the arrest was carried out by the National Accountability Bureau due to allegations of causing losses to the national treasury. Furthermore, he emphasized that no harm or violence was inflicted upon Imran Khan during the arrest.

Imran Khan’s party tweeted a video of him hours before heading to court, in which he reiterated his accusations against Major-General Faisal Naseer, a high-ranking officer in the ISI. Khan claims that Naseer was involved in the attempted assassination against him in Wazirabad.

Asia Cup 2023: BIG Setback For Pakistan Cricket Board as THESE Countries Support India Over…. Details Here

The tussle between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board continues on the question of hosting the Asia Cup 2023. Actually, the BCCI says that the Indian cricket team will not go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. At the same time, on the objection of BCCI, PCB suggested hybrid model, but BCCI did not agree.

BCCI got support from Sri Lanka Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly received support from the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to move this year’s Asia Cup out of Pakistan. This is a big setback for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) who was plotting to schedule the elite continental tournament in the nation.

Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board President Najam Sethi had suggested a hybrid model, but now the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board’s support to the BCCI is being considered as a major setback for the PCB. On the other hand, according to the reports of Pakistani channel Geo Sports, if the Asia Cup is not organized in Pakistan, then apart from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka is ready to organize the tournament.

MeT department forecast more precipitation in next 24 hours before “significant” improvement

    No ‘Hybrid Model’ for BCCI

According to other sources of Geo Sports, the Narendra Modi-led Indian government has instructed the BCCI to take a tough position at the subsequent ACC conference.

The hybrid concept put out by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which would have given India the option to play its matches at a neutral location, is also unlikely to be approved by the BCCI.

Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB Management Committee, had urged a logical strategy to resolve the situation, which threatens the country’s participation in this year’s ODI World Cup and the successful hosting of the Asia Cup.
