Kejriwal throws open Ashram flyover extension, commuters heave sigh of relief

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The much-awaited Ashram flyover extension will help commuters bypass three traffic lights and commute ‘signal free’ between Noida and AIIMS, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday.

Kejriwal inaugurated the key flyover extension on Monday, bringing relief to commuters waiting for it to open for over two months.

The chief minister said the extension will also bring relief from long traffic jams in the area, particularly during office-going hours.

“People will be able to reach Noida from AIIMS quickly since they will be able to bypass three traffic signals between Ashram and DND,” he said.

The AAP national convener added that only a few minor tasks are left to be completed before the flyover can become fully operational.

“Initially, only light vehicles will be permitted to use it for a brief period because of a high-tension wire that still needs to be removed. Once this is done, other vehicles will also be allowed. The total length of the flyover, including the ramp, is 1,425 metres,” he said.

The chief minister congratulated the people of Delhi and acknowledged that although the flyover extension’s construction caused some traffic-related inconvenience, it was necessary to bring positive change.

He also apologised for any trouble caused during the construction period but emphasised that the project’s completion will bring new opportunities.

Kejriwal recognised the hard work of Public Works department (PWD) engineers and congratulated them on completing the project ahead of schedule despite initial doubts about the plan to finish it between 45 and 60 days.

Anant Kumar, the Public Works department’s engineer-in-chief, said light vehicles will be allowed on the extended flyover for a month. Heavy vehicles will be allowed following completion of the remaining work, likely by March-end.

The Ashram flyover was closed for traffic from January 1.

The mega project received clearance from the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre in 2017 and administrative approval of Rs 129 crore was granted in 2019, Kumar said.

While construction began in 2020, the project was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown for eight to 10 months.

The final cost of the project came to Rs 164 crore.

“Some work on the project was also supposed to be done by the National Highways Authority of India but the PWD took over from them due to the slow progress,” Kumar said.

The senior PWD official said they have also developed a subway at the Maharani Bagh Ring Road stretch to help pedestrians.

According to commuters and local residents, reopening of the flyover will not only ease traffic congestion in the area but also help people reach markets and hospitals in less time.

Pradeep Anand, president of Sunlight Colony Residents’ Welfare Association, said people residing near the flyover and other areas had been facing a harrowing time for the past two months.

“Since the traffic signal was closed, we had no other option but to take a U-turn from Sarai Kale Khan but it would take us nearly 30 minutes as the U-turn stretch was long and there would be heavy traffic congestion,” he said.

The traffic signal connecting Sunlight Colony with New Friends Colony where Holy Family Hospital is situated was also shut, compounding their woes.

“The nearest hospital for us is Holy Family Hospital in the New Friends Colony area. During emergencies, it would take us nearly an hour to reach the hospital after taking the U-turn from Sarai Kale Khan,” Anand said.

Sushil Singh, a trader from Lajpat Nagar, said people would not be able to reach markets from Noida quickly when the flyover was shut.

“When this (flyover) was closed, people would hate travelling by road from Noida to Lajpat Nagar. We also saw a decline in business. But now people will return to our market,” he hoped.

Constructed at a cost of around Rs 40 crores the new facility is in line with contemporary requirements, increasing the number of beds in this hospital to 700.

Keeping in mind the expected increase in the number of patients once this new block is fully operational, the Telangana government has taken concrete steps to improve the medical infrastructure by acquiring modern medical equipment and setting up modular operation theatres.

The state government has also decided to allot 2 to 3 acres of land near the hospital for future expansion keeping in mind the increasing number of cancer patients being referred to MNJ hospital.

The director of MNJ Hospital Dr Jayalatha said that a few construction delating works are pending and would be completed within a week.

    [ad_1]

Jammu, Mar 03: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that his doors remained open for common citizens to address their genuine grievances but there is no space for trouble mongers, who are spreading misinformation about property tax.

The LG further said that by misusing positions and law, some people make huge wealth for their next generations and friends but their time has gone.

The Lt Governor was speaking at the attestation-cum-passing out parade of recruit constables of 29th Basic Recruitment Training Course (BRTC) at S Prithinandan Singh Police Training School here.

Earlier, the LG maintained that the proposed property tax in Jammu and Kashmir is lowest in the country.

“The total households in municipal areas of Jammu and Kashmir is around 5 lakh 20 thousand out of which 2 lakh six thousand household are exempted from all taxes as it is below 1000 Sq Ft, another 2 lakh three thousand household are between 1000 to 1500 Sq ft and its maximum tax in Jammu and Srinagar cities is not above Rs 1000”.

He further added that when it comes to commercial complexes and shops, Jammu has 1 lakh 1000 buildings and 46000 is below 100 Sq ft, which invites just Rs 600 tax in a year.

He maintained that around 40 percent of households in municipalities are exempted from any tax while the remaining 40 have to pay very nominal tax.

The Government said that how the system works if owners take lakhs of rent for commercial property and not give 5000 to corporation.

On land eviction drive, the LG ensured that no poor will be affected during the anti-encroachment drive, adding, “All the land taken away from encroachers will be utilized for development and creating facilities for the citizens.

The LG also lauded the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in its fight against terrorism and highlighted the need to neutralise the ecosystem providing ‘ideological and financial’ support to terrorists in the Union Territory.

“I am confident that you will discharge your responsibility towards the nation with utmost sensitivity, commitment and dedication,” added the Lt Governor.

“The integrity, dedication and professionalism of J&K Police are pivotal in the fight against terrorism, ” he said, and stressed upon the future-ready policing strategies to tackle the new forms of internal security challenges.

“These are challenging times for our police forces as the world today is facing conventional & non-conventional threats. We need to be vigilant & determined to neutralise the ecosystem providing ideological and financial support to terrorists,” the Lt Governor said.

“We believe in ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and peaceful coexistence. There is no place for subversive elements in a civilized society,” observed the Lt Governor. Narco-Terrorism has become one of the biggest threats to society.

J&K UT is on the march and is being transformed. It is our sacred duty to provide a safe, secure and right environment to fulfill the aspirations of the common man, he said.

Noting that the top positions in the batch have been secured by women constables, the Lt Governor said that these achievements show that our women are no less than anyone. The Lt Governor further asked the DGP, Dilbag Singh to consider increasing the quota of reservation for women in the police force.

An oath was administered to the passing out cadets for performing their duties with dedication and honesty.

The Lt Governor took the Rashtriya Salute and witnessed the spectacular parade and martial art demonstration. He also felicitated the cadets who excelled during their training course.

R/Ct. Sunali Bhagat emerged as the best all-rounder. Recruit Constables Sarleen Kour, Sapna Saini, Heena Choudhary and Nitika Rajput were also felicitated by the Lt Governor for their excellent performances.

A total of 480 new recruits, including 49 women recruit Constables have completed their rigorous training today at the PTS Kathua. Out of 480, as many as 330 constables have already served as SPOs, 32 as followers, and 85 have been appointed under SRO—(KNO)

  • Bank customers Alert! Big news! Now banks will open only this

    [ad_1]

Bank employees are going to get good news. His week off is about to increase. That means now they will have to work less days in a week. However, their working hours will be extended.

It is being claimed in the media reports that the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) is going to consider the demands of bank unions for holidays and working days in a week. If this rule is accepted then the bank employees will get great relief.

    Work burden on bank employees

In fact, the issue of work burden on bank employees is repeatedly raised by bank unions. In view of this, they are demanding work for 5 days a week. According to media reports, IBA is considering the model of bank employees working 5 days a week and two days off.

Right now there are six weeks off in a month. It is being said that if this is implemented, the employees will get Saturday and Sunday off, while their working hours will increase by 5 days. They will have to work 40 minutes more everyday. According to media reports, after the new model is implemented, bank employees may have to work from 9.45 am to 5.30 am.

Let us tell you that now the employees get 6 days of week off in a month, while after the new model is implemented, they will get 8 days of week off. At present, apart from four Sundays in the bank, there is a holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays. This also creates a bit of confusion among the customers.

Two week offs are also being given by LIC

Tell that the government insurance company LIC is also giving two days week off to its employees. Before listing last year, LIC had implemented a model of working 5 days a week. After this the bank unions intensified their demands in this regard.

Sisodia held in open and shut case of corruption: Congress

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday said AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been arrested in an “open and shut case of corruption” and that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should also be arrested for his alleged involvement in the excise policy case.

The two leaders are “deeply involved in corruption” and should be dealt with accordingly, Congress leader Ajay Maken said.

Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22.

“This is an open and shut case of corruption and a big scam has taken place in Delhi, and it should be viewed accordingly,” Maken said.

He said Kejriwal should also be arrested in the case.

“It has now been established in one of the charge sheets and one of the accused liquor barons has said he was made to speak to Kejriwal on Facetime,” he added.

The Kejriwal government had set up a committee to recommend changes in the excise policy but just the opposite of what the panel recommended was done “so that corruption could be done”, Maken charged.

The Congress leader claimed Sisodia and Kejriwal are “deeply involved in corruption” and asserted that they should be dealt with accordingly.

“Those who are sympathising with Manish Sisodia should know that this is a matter of corruption and it should be viewed accordingly,” Maken told PTI.

The AAP, which is projecting the action against Sisodia as “injustice”, should answer as to why changes were made against the recommendations of the committee, he said.

Maken further said, “I would also like to ask the central government not to misuse central agencies even in a genuine case like this and make it seem like political vendetta. They should use them sparingly.”

Some Congress leaders including Abhishek Singhvi and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot have spoken in support of Sisodia and accused the government of misusing agencies against opposition leaders. Singhvi, who is also Sisodia’s lawyer in court, later clarified that his remarks did not represent the Congress’ stand.

  • Telangana: YS Sharmila dares KCR for an open debate on irrigation projects

Telangana: YS Sharmila dares KCR for an open debate on irrigation projects

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on the BRS-led Telangana government for its ‘gross failure’ to complete irrigation projects on time, YS Sharmila dared him to come on a public debate and discuss the 30 pending projects that have been receiving ‘ill-treatment’ by his government.

“After all his tall talk and fake oaths to complete all irrigation projects in Telangana on time, the KCR government has utterly failed the farming community by not completing any project. Having spent Rs 1.2 lakh crores on Kaleshwaram Project after redesigning and renaming Pranahita Chevella, all for the sake of commissions, only 57000 acres of land received irrigation. Barring this, no other project was accomplished in these nine years,” she stated.

Sharmila further said, “During late YSR’s rule, 33 projects were launched and fast-tracked too, and by 2016-17, the projects were in a decisive stage of advancement, running towards completion. Alisagar and Gaddenna Suddavagu were completed by 2017. After YSR’s demise in 2009, and until 2014, the pending projects’ fate continued to hang in a balance, and they still don’t see the light of the day, thanks to KCR’s apathy and his government’s anarchy.”

Sharmila alleged that the chief minister is reluctant to complete the remaining 10% works of the Jalayagnam projects.

“Just Rs 85 crore was all that was enough to complete 16 pending projects and give water to 35 lakh acre,” she claimed.

“On top of it, his statements make a joke of his government where he promises to irrigate one crore acres. I dare the father and son (KTR) to come on a public debate and I will show with proof, how and where the works are stuck. It is for votes that they are misleading people on these projects,” added Sharmila.

Telangana medico’s suicide: Kavitha writes open letter to Dr Preethi’s parents

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: BRS MLA Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Tuesday wrote an open letter to the deceased tribal medico Dr Preethi’s parents Narendar and Sharadha and expressed deep sorrow for what happened to the young junior doctor.

“As a mother, her death anguished me a lot. I was one of the crores of people who prayed for her recovery. I am unable to digest that Preethi, who is studying her post-graduation in medicine battling many odds. Society has lost a great doctor. I express my condolences,” she said in the letter.

The BRS MLC promised to stand by Preethi’s family and make sure that the culprits get justice. “We will make sure such incidents dont happen again. The whole state stands by you. I pray to God to give you both the strength in these difficult times,” she said.

Preethi, a first-year student of the postgraduate (MD) in the department of Anaesthesia in Warangal allegedly took a lethal injection while on duty at MGM Hospital on February 22.

The same day she was shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, where she succumbed on February 26.

The letter also mentioned that precious time was lost in shifting the student to NIMS. It was felt that she could have been kept under treatment at MGM.

Last rites of the 26-year-old tribal were performed at Girni Thanda in Jangaon district on Monday afternoon.

While she was under treatment at NIMS, the governor had visited the hospital to enquire about her condition and to console the family members.

Warangal police on February 24 arrested Preethi’s senior M. A. Saif, a second year student in the department of anaesthesia.

Police said targeted harassment of Preethi by her senior could have driven her to take the extreme step.

Police booked Saif for abetment to suicide. He was also booked under Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Anti-Ragging Act.

  • Zelenskyy open to considering some parts of Beijing’s proposals to end Ukraine war

Zelenskyy open to considering some parts of Beijing’s proposals to end Ukraine war

    [ad_1]

russia ukraine war one year anniversary 41136

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautiously welcomed Beijing’s efforts toward ending the war in Ukraine and said he would like to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss China’s proposals.

Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv Friday to mark the first anniversary of Moscow’s invasion, Zelenskyy said he was open to considering some aspects of the 12-point “position paper” published by the Chinese foreign ministry. Both NATO and the EU have criticized the initiative, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen saying that “China has taken sides” in the Ukraine conflict.

Beijing claims to have a neutral stance in the war but also has said it has a “no limits” relationship with Moscow and has refused to criticize President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said a meeting with Xi could be “useful” to both countries and for global security. “As far as I know, China respects historical integrity,” he told reporters in Kyiv.

“I believe that the fact that China started talking about Ukraine is not bad,” Zelenskyy said, according to the Associated Press. “But the question is what follows the words. The question is in the steps and where they will lead to.”

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak called the Chinese proposals “unrealistic” in a tweet on Saturday.

Zelenskyy also warned Beijing against providing Russia with weapons, something of increasing concern to Western governments. China is considering providing drones and ammunition to help Moscow’s war efforts in Ukraine, a person familiar with the matter told POLITICO on Friday.

“I very much want to believe that China will not deliver weapons to Russia, and for me this is very important,” Zelenskyy said, according to Reuters.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday said the alliance is closely monitoring China’s activities, adding that Beijing sending lethal aid to Moscow would be a “very big mistake.”

French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday welcomed Beijing’s initiative on the conflict in Ukraine and said he will visit China in early April and seek Chinese help in ending the war. “The fact that China is engaging in peace efforts is a good thing,” Macron said, according to French media reports.

The French leader also asked Beijing “not to supply any arms to Russia.” And he sought Beijing’s aid to “exert pressure on Russia to ensure it never uses chemical or nuclear weapons and it stops this aggression prior to negotiations,” according to the reports.

Meanwhile, Beijing announced on Saturday that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will visit China on a state visit from February 28 to March 2. The Belarusian foreign ministry confirmed the planned visit.

Lukashenko, a close ally of Putin, has backed Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and allowed its territory to be used in the Russian assault. Lukashenko said last week that his country was prepared to join Russia’s war against Ukraine, if attacked.

Zelenskyy also said that any proposal to end the war would be acceptable only if it led to Putin pulling his troops out of all occupied Ukrainian territory.

Amid growing concerns in the West about Ukraine’s ability to recover all its territory, NATO’s biggest European members — Germany, France and the U.K. — are putting forward a defense pact with Ukraine as a way to encourage Kyiv toward peace talks with Moscow, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing officials from the three governments.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told Zelensky at a meeting earlier this month in Paris that Kyiv needed to start considering peace talks with Moscow, the WSJ reported, citing people familiar with the conversation.

Are flats in Hyderabad better option for homebuyers?

For those considering buying a home in Hyderabad, the decision between investing in a plot or an apartment can be quite challenging. While flats in Hyderabad have their own advantages, investing in a plot has several benefits worth considering.

One of the significant advantages of buying an open plot in and around Hyderabad is the assurance of a premium, independent lifestyle and complete ownership of the land. Unlike flats, plots offer the possibility of a private and more spacious living environment without sharing land space with others.

Moreover, owning a plot gives buyers the option to design and construct their dream home with personal preferences in mind, including a backyard and ample parking space. In addition, plots tend to appreciate more than flats, providing a bigger resale value in the long run.

Overall, while both options have their unique benefits, buying a plot in Hyderabad can be a sound investment choice for those seeking a more private, personalized, and appreciating asset.
