Former president stated that Brazil did not end on January 1st; he must stay until March 15th in the US

the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Monday (27.Feb.2023) that despite having “aversion” to the current Chief Executive, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), he will not work against Brazil.

“Despite having aversion to what is currently in politics there in the Executive, I will not work against my country”, said Bolsonaro at the Florida SA Summit event in the United States. He was applauded after the statement.

Bolsonaro is expected to stay in the US until March 15, extending his stay in the US by at least 18 days. The Executive Secretariat of the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic authorized the removal of 3 employees who accompanied the former president abroad.

Although Bolsonaro’s statement was in a mild tone, during his participation in the event, he made several criticisms of the current government. He even mocked the current Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, and the former president Dilma Rousseff (PT).

“Now this type of political subdivision is back in Brazil. There’s no way to go right […] I just saw the volleyball player, Ana Moser, talking about being Minister of Sports. Dilma is a PhD close to her”said Bolsonaro.

“In 2010, it took approximately 100 days to open a company in Brazil. 100 with ‘c’ is not with ‘s’ no”said the former president.

Bolsonaro further strengthened that he did not take the vaccine against covid-19. On February 17, Chief Minister of the CGU (Controladoria Geral da União), Vinícius de Carvalho, confirmed the existence of a vaccine record of the former president against the disease. Former Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, denied.

“I didn’t get the vaccine. They accused me of having taken it now, at a health center on the outskirts of São Paulo”said Bolsonaro at an event in the US.

About the January 8 prisoners, Bolsonaro said they are being treated like “terrorists”and that among those arrested are “household heads, mothers and grandmothers”.

“In Brazil, everything has become fake news, undermining the democratic rule of law. We now have, it will be 2 months, 900 people arrested, treated like terrorists who were not found with even a penknife. Heads of families, mothers, grandmothers”he stated.

On social media, state deputy Bruno Engler (PL-MG) published images of long lines of businessmen to take a photo with the former president. See the log:

  • In a new counterpoint to Bolsonaro, Lula vaccinates himself in public

    [ad_1]

During the launch of the “National Movement for Vaccination”, the PT member received the 5th dose of the vaccine against covid-19

The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), 77 years old, publicly received the 5th dose of the coronavirus vaccine this Monday (27.Feb.2023). Who applied was the vice president and Minister of Development, Industry. Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), who is a doctor.

The act was yet another counterpoint by the petista to his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro (PL). When he was president, Bolsonaro cast doubt on the effectiveness of vaccines against covid-19.

The dose applied to Lula is of the bivalent type, which is effective against variants of the virus and the original strain. In addition to him, other people were also vaccinated in the act.

“Taking a vaccine is a gesture of responsibility”said Lula. “I take vaccines because I enjoy life”he declared, remembering his age.

The president also mentioned other diseases in addition to covid-19. “The time the child gets paralyzed, then we will suffer for the rest of our lives, something that could have been avoided”he declared.

Lula and the Minister of Health, Nisia Trindade, mentioned the mascot of Brazil’s vaccination programs, Zé Gotinha.

“Don’t be afraid of Zé Gotinha”, said the president. The minister cheered the character.

Also participating in the act were the Minister of the General Secretariat, Márcio Macêdo, the interim governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão (PP), who was booed, and the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva.

    CAMPAIGN FOR VACCINATION

The “National Movement for Vaccination” campaign, organized by the Ministry of Health, proposes to expand the coverage of vaccines available in the SUS (Unified Health System). In the 1st phase of the program, the portfolio must reinforce immunization against covid-19. Reinforcement begins with priority groups across the country, such as seniors over 60 years old.

Chief Executive will immunize himself against covid-19 as part of the National Movement for Vaccination this Monday

The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) will be immunized against covid-19 during the launch of the National Movement for Vaccination this Monday (27.feb.2023).

The information was confirmed by the official account of the federal government on twitter. The event to launch the vaccination campaign will be held at 3 pm this Monday (Feb 27) at the Guará Health Center, in the administrative region of Brasília.

The campaign organized by the Ministry of Health proposes to expand the coverage of vaccines available in the SUS (Unified Health System). In the 1st phase of the program, the portfolio must reinforce immunization against covid-19. Reinforcement begins with priority groups across the country, such as seniors over 60 years old.

The actions of the 2023 National Vaccination Program, released by the Ministry of Health, should start from February 27th. Also included in the schedule is the intensification of the Influenza campaign, in April, and multivaccination of poliomyelitis and measles in schools.

On his Twitter profile, the Chief Executive compared the vaccination data for 2015 with those for 2021 and said he will work to make the country have satisfactory immunization numbers again.

Lula will receive a dose of the bivalent vaccine against the coronavirus during the event. According to the Ministry of Health, the immunizer improves immunity against the original strain virus and also against the omicron variant. In addition, it has a safety and efficacy profile similar to that of monovalent vaccines.

The president is 77 years old and has already been immunized with 4 doses of the covid vaccine. He took the 1st dose of an anti-covid vaccine on March 13, 2021 in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo. He received CoronaVac, a vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute in partnership with Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac. The last dose taken by the PT against the coronavirus was on April 3, 2022, before the presidential election campaign.

  • Lula sacks head of Brazilian army after far-right insurrection

Lula sacks head of Brazilian army after far-right insurrection

    [ad_1]

The head of the Brazilian army has been sacked by the country’s new president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after claims the commander tried to shield rightwing rioters from arrest after the 8 January insurrection in Brasília.

Gen Júlio Cesar de Arruda, who only took up the role in late December, was removed from his position on Saturday, nearly two weeks after supporters of the former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro brought havoc to Brazil’s capital in what Lula’s administration called a botched coup attempt.

Arruda, who some of Lula allies reportedly suspect is politically aligned with Bolsonaro, reportedly stopped police detaining suspected rioters who took refuge at an encampment outside Brasília’s army headquarters on the night of the attack.

“You are not going to arrest people here,” Arruda allegedly told Lula’s justice minister, Flávio Dino, according to the Washington Post.

That highly controversial decision is thought to have allowed scores of rightwing criminals to avoid capture after they ransacked Brazil’s presidential palace, supreme court and congress. And it has reinforced widespread suspicions that the uprising had at least some level of backing from members of Brazil’s armed forces.

Bolsonaro, a pro-gun former army captain who has spent decades cultivating ties with Brazil’s security forces, enjoys significant support among military and police officials. A number of military officials are reported to have encouraged and participated in the pro-Bolsonaro insurrection while Lula has said he suspects the rioters received inside help that enabled them to invade the presidential palace.

“Many people were complicit in this … many people in the military police were complicit. There were many people in the armed forces here inside [the palace] who were complicit,” the leftist political veteran told journalists in Brasília four days after the attack.

“This chap has managed to pollute the entire armed forces,” Lula added of Bolsonaro, who flew to the US on the eve of the 1 January inauguration and has refused to publicly concede defeat in last October’s election.

Lula has removed at least 80 military officials from their jobs in his administration in the last five days, according to the newspaper O Globo, in an apparent attempt to root out hardcore Bolsonaro backers.

Arruda will be replaced by Gen Tomás Miguel Ribeiro Paiva, the 62-year-old head of the south-eastern military command in São Paulo.

In a speech posted on social media on Friday, Ribeiro Paiva urged troops to respect the result of last October’s election, which Lula won by about 2m votes.

“It doesn’t matter [what the result of an election is], it must be respected … It might not always be what we want, but that doesn’t matter,” Ribeiro Paiva said, insisting the military would fulfil their mission whoever their commander-in-chief was.

One prominent Brazilian journalist, Lauro Jardim, claimed the immediate trigger for Arruda’s removal was his refusal to obey an order from Lula to sack Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, Lt Col Mauro Cid, who who was put in charge of a specialist army battalion near Brasília in the dying days of Bolsonaro’s presidency.

“As the supreme commander of the armed forces, there was nothing else Lula could do,” Jardim wrote. “Either he sacked Arruda, or he could never again hope to have control of the armed forces.”
