On Thursday, UAE Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that expands their interline agreement, which took place at the Arabian Travel Market, with representatives from both airlines present.

Gilded carriages, crown jewels polished up for King Charles III’s Coronation

    [ad_1]

London: Charles, who acceded to the British throne on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September last year, will be formally crowned King at a solemn religious ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday, last seen 70 years ago for his late mother.

Over 7,000 troops have been rehearsing into the early hours of the day in preparation for one of their most historic royal duty to date to line up the procession route for the gilded horse-drawn carriage of Charles, 74, and Camilla, 75, to be ridden from Buckingham Palace for their Coronation.

While Saturday’s ceremony will include many similar elements from Queen Elizabeth II’s crowning in June 1953, there are several crucial changes not least the cut-size congregation of 2,200 as compared to 8,000 of the past, as a nod to Charles’ sustainable outlook in the face of a cost-of-living crisis facing the country.

    MS Education Academy

The many multi-faith elements incorporated into the Christian ceremony are also reflective of his more modern touch.

“It is my prayer that all who share in this service, whether they are of faith or no faith, will find ancient wisdom and new hope that brings inspiration and joy,” said Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will be presiding over the ceremony.

Britain’s first Hindu Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will read from the biblical book of Colossians soon after he and wife Akshata lead the host nation procession into the Abbey.

House of Lords peers who belong to different faith traditions of Sikhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam will present key Regalia to the King.

While Lord Indrajit Singh, 90, will represent the Sikh faith and present the Coronation Glove, Lord Syed Kamall, 56, of Indo-Guyanese heritage, will represent the Muslim faith and present the Armills or a pair of bracelets. Lord Narendra Babubhai Patel, 84, will represent the Hindu faith and hand over the Sovereign’s Ring to Charles.

India will be represented at the gathering by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife, Dr Sudeep Dhankhar.

On Saturday morning, the King and Queen will travel from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach created for Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate the 60th anniversary of her reign in 2012.

This horse-drawn carriage is the far more comfortable one of the two to feature in the two-way procession, including air-conditioning and shock absorbers. The less comfortable royal carriage, the ancient Gold State Coach, will be used for a shorter return journey from the Abbey to the palace.

The Gold State Coach was last seen during the Pageant of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in June 2022 and was commissioned in 1760.

The Coronation Regalia, the heart of the Crown Jewels which remain at the Tower of London for public display at all other times as a set of sacred and secular objects which symbolise the service and responsibilities of the monarch, will get their full ceremonial outing.

Charles will be crowned King as the St. Edward’s Crown is placed upon his head during the ceremony which will be made up of five key elements: the Recognition; the Oath; the Anointing; the Investiture and Crowning; and the Enthronement and Homage.

Camilla will be crowned with St. Mary’s Crown studded with Cullinan diamonds, having made the diplomatic choice to shun the customary crown embedded with the infamous Kohinoor diamond due to its colonial link with India.

While she will be “anointed” with holy oil in full public view, Charles will be anointed behind a cloth screen depicting a central design of a tree with branches filled with 56 leaves representing the Commonwealth of nations including one of the leaves dedicated to India.

The holy Chrism oil consecrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem will be symbolically touched to the monarch’s head, chest and hands as part of the religious ceremony.

Witnessing the solemn ceremony will be a congregation of 2,200 guests at the Abbey, including 850 representatives of charity and community groups as well as British Empire Medal (BEM) winners.

Among others of Indian heritage in the gathering will be British Indian chef and BEM winner Manju Malhi, who works with a senior citizens charity in the UK, will be among this group specially invited by the royal couple alongside worldwide royalty and Heads of State.

Also invited is Sourabh Phadke, a graduate of the Prince’s Foundation set up in Dumfries House, Scotland, by Charles as the Prince of Wales with a vision to provide holistic solutions to challenges facing the world. Gulfsha, winner of the Prince’s Trust Global Award and Indian-origin Jay Patel of Prince’s Trust Canada are also among the selected invitees.

Once back at the palace, the newly crowned King and Queen will receive a Royal Salute from the UK and some Commonwealth realm Armed Forces who would have been on parade that day.

They will then appear on the iconic balcony of Buckingham Palace to wave at gathered crowds and witness a Royal Air Force (RAF) flypast, that’s if the rain forecast for the day does not prove a washout for this colourful conclusion of the Coronation.

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: With just a few days to go for the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka, the Congress on Friday targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the issue of corruption, and also released a “rate card” of alleged corruption in the southern state.

The Congress first shared the rate card from the official Twitter handle of the party in a bid to scale up attacks on the issue of corruption.

In the post, the Congress alleged that the Karnataka Chief Minister’s post was up for grabs for Rs 2,500 crore and the rate of ministerial posts was Rs 500 crore.

    MS Education Academy

Sharing the post on Twitter, the party wrote, “Kannadigas! Here is the corruption rate card of the ‘TROUBLE ENGINE’ 40% Sarkara.”

The post also highlighted figures for “Appointment and Transfer Rates”, “Job Rates”, and alleged commission for government deals.

Following the party’s stand, even former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also shared the post and targeted the BJP, saying “trouble Engine BJP is in love with the number 40, people of Karnataka will give them 40 seats only”.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said: “BJP’s 40% Commission Sarkara’s ‘Rate Card’! ‘Trouble Engine’ BJP is in love with the number 40, people of Karnataka will give them 40 seats only!”

The Congress and Rahul Gandhi has been attacking the BJP over the alleged corruption in the BJP government in the state.

Last year, the Congress launched PayCM campaign in the state to highlight the alleged corruption.

The Congress has been campaigning aggressively in Karnataka and has cornered the BJP on issues of corruption and several other matters.

The Congress released its manifesto on Tuesday and also announced several promises for the people of the state.

The party also promised to repeal, within one year of coming to power, “all unjust laws and other anti-people laws” passed by the BJP government in the state.

To woo the voters in the state, Congress announced Gruha Jyothi (200 units of free electricity), Gruha Lakshmi – Rs 2,000 monthly to every woman head of the family, Anna Bhagya – 10 kg of food grains of their choice (among rice, ragi, jowar, millet) to every person in a BPL family.

The election for the 224-member assembly is scheduled on May 10 and counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Hyderabad Traffic police request motorists not to drive their vehicles under drunken conditions and abide by the traffic laws as a measure for their own safety.

Traffic Police have informed that these special drives and execution of operation ROPE are solely aimed at a smooth flow of traffic, regulation and individual road safety.

  • COVID-19 global health emergency over: WHO

COVID-19 global health emergency over: WHO

    [ad_1]

Geneva: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that Covid-19 pandemic is over as a global health emergency.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, made the announcement while addressing a media briefing on Covid-19 and global health issues.

“It is therefore with great hope that I declare #Covid19 over as a global health emergency. However, that does not mean Covid-19 is over as a global health threat. Last week, Covid-19 claimed a life every three minutes – and that’s just the deaths we know about,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

“As we speak, thousands of people around the world are fighting for their lives in intensive care units. And millions more continue to live with the debilitating effects of post-#Covid19 condition,” the Director General of WHO added

The WHO had declared Covid-19 as a global emergency in January 2020.

“1221 days ago, WHO learned of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan, China. On the 30th January 2020, on the advice of an Emergency Committee convened under the International Health Regulations, I declared a public health emergency of international concern over the global outbreak of #Covid19 – the highest level of alarm under international law,” Tedros said

“At that time, outside China there were fewer than 100 reported [#Covid19] cases, and no reported deaths. In the 3 years since then, Covid-19 has turned our world upside down. Almost 7 million deaths have been reported to WHO, but we know the toll is several times higher – at least 20 million,” he noted.

“What this news means is that it is time for countries to transition from emergency mode to managing #Covid19 alongside other infectious diseases,” he added.

Following the inauguration, KTR laid the foundation stone for the development and beautification of Ellamma Pond to be undertaken under the auspices of the tourism department.

The minister who arrived in a chopper, also played shuttle in the newly inaugurated indoor stadium.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing a public meeting, KTR said that the BRS government works for the cause of farmers and their welfare and assured that the state government would purchase every grain produced by the farmers.

“Chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has already directed the officials to procure soaked and discoloured paddy from the farmers without imposing any conditions,” said KTR while he urged farmers not to worry about the crop losses triggered by unseasonal rains.

Recalling Husnabad to be famous for drought and parched lands, KTR asserted that KCR has now deployed Bhagiratha Maharshi to construct the Gouravelli project and brought Godavari water to Husnabad ensuring water supply to the farmers.

Taking a dig at Congress, “In the Congress rule, power was supplied hardly for six hours to the farming sector but now 24 hours free power was being supplied to farmers,” he said.

Listing out the welfare and development programmes executed in Husnabad by the Telangana government, the KTR slammed the BJP for its unfulfilled promises.

“When Narendra Modiji became Prime Minister, the domestic gas cylinder price was Rs 400 and today it escalated to Rs 1200,” underlined KTR.

Slamming the Telangana BJP MP Bandi Sanjay, KTR said that he always indulges in communal politics and insists on digging into mosques to derive political mileage when he should focus on the promises made by his party.

“Do we need such MP? Lands should be dug up for laying the foundation for canals and development works,” the minister said, adding that if BRS candidate had been elected, Karimnagar would not have an IIIT.

SC notices to Centre, NMC on plea for restoration of recognition of Telangana medical college

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Centre and others on a plea by 38 post graduate students of a Telangana-based medical college challenging its non-recognition by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

A bench comprising Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Dipankar Datta took note of the submissions of senior lawyer Siddharth Bhatnagar and advocate Tanvi Dubey that the recognition of MNR Medical College and Hospital in Telangana has not been restored by the NMC despite a specific order of the high court plunging the future of students pursuing PG courses there into uncertainty.

The petition has been filed by Simhadri Ravi Shankar and 37 others pursuing different PG courses at the medical college located at Fasalwadi in Sangareddy district.

    MS Education Academy

“The petitioners are grossly aggrieved by the alleged inaction on part of the NMC of not providing a specific order restoring the recognition as per the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 in favour of the MNR college for the PG course for academic year 2021-22, in terms of the November 28, 2022 order of the High Court,” one of the lawyers said.

The plea said the doctors have been left in the lurch due to NMC’s inaction.

“It is most humbly submitted that the candidates are shocked to note that despite an oral assurance given to the students by NMC on 27.03.2023, while the SLP filed by NMC … was heard, NMC has till date not complied with the direction passed by the Telangana High Court,” the plea, filed through Dubey, said.

The students have been suffering for almost one year without any fault on their part, it said, adding “Unfortunately, even after such a long delay and even after a specific direction of the High Court, there is no order of renewal of recognition yet.”

The petitioners are aggrieved candidates of MNR college 2021-22 batch of PG students.

The plea has sought a direction to the NMC to pass a specific order restoring the recognition as per the NMC Act, 2019 in favour of MNR for the PG course for academic year 2021-22 within a specified time period not exceeding one week.

The plea, alternatively, seeks a direction to the NMC to reallocate the PG students of MNR college of 2021-22 academic session to some other medical college.

Ashok Gehlot asks BJP: Aren’t we Hindus?

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday accused the BJP of linking the voting preference of people with Hinduism and asked whether those who don’t vote for the party are not Hindus.

“You (BJP) come up with one issue or the other to provoke people in the name of religion, caste. All are Hindus. Aren’t we Hindus? Where is it written that the one who votes for the BJP is a Hindu?” Gehlot asked.

Speaking at the inauguration of Haldighati Youth Festival at Nathdwara in Rajsamand district, Gehlot appealed to the youth to decide whether they want development or just issues that provoke people.

    MS Education Academy

“In a democracy, some vote for the BJP, some don’t. Some vote for the Congress, some don’t,” he said.

“Where did they get this definition that those who do not vote (for the BJP) are not Hindus? It is not in the interest of the country,” Gehlot said.

Alleging that a BJP government will stop the schemes run by the current government in Rajasthan, Gehlot said, “I would like to tell the youth, you decide whether you want development, whether you want a vision or (not).”

He also told the youth that “knowledge is power”.

He said Rajasthan today ranks first in the country in the IT sector.
