GMC Srinagar Conducts Outreach Health Camp At Gurez

SRINAGAR: In a bid to provide free medical services to the people of Gurez, the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar in collaboration with five specialties of GMC Srinagar organized a free outreach health camp in the area.
The health camp was staffed by a team of experienced medical professionals, who provided a wide range of services to the local residents. The camp offered services such as free medical check-ups, radiology, antenatal scans, and ophthalmological, orthopedic, and ENT examinations.
The consultants and specialist doctors, along with a team of medical staff, set up various examination and treatment stations to cater to the different healthcare needs of the patients. Medicine specialists provided general health check-ups and prescribed medications for common illnesses while ophthalmologists conducted eye examinations and distributed free medications
ENT specialists addressed ear, nose, and throat problems, while orthopedic doctors provided consultations on bone and joint problems. Obstetricians and gynecologists provided prenatal check-ups and discussed family planning methods.
During the free health outreach camp in Gurez, over 500 patients were seen and treated who had various ailments including chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD), acute pancreatitis (APD), upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), documented cases of fatty liver, febrile illness, scabies, dermatitis, and eczema.
Among the pediatric patients, there were 62 cases with clinical features of anemia and URTI. Additionally, one case was diagnosed with cyanotic heart disease and was referred to the Children Hospital Srinagar.
35 patients were seen for gynecology and obstetrics issues. Among them, 13 were expecting mothers who underwent Antenatal Care (ANC).
A significant number of patients were observed seeking treatment for various ear-related problems. Out of the 52 patients seen, a majority presented with conditions affecting their ears, reflecting the prevalence of ear issues within the community.

Among the cases encountered, particular attention was given to two young siblings, aged 4 and 3 years, who were diagnosed with congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). Congenital SNHL refers to a hearing impairment that a person is born with, and it can significantly impact their quality of life if left untreated.
Understanding the importance of early intervention, the concerned medical professionals at the ENT have advised the siblings to visit the ENT department at SMHS Hospital or any relevant hospital] for further evaluation and management. By taking this step, the medical team aims to provide the best possible treatment and support for the young patients in improving their hearing abilities and overall development.
During the camp, 65 abdominal ultrasound scans were conducted, and some interesting findings were observed. Out of 18 patients, 9 males and 9 females had hepatic steatosis, while three patients had moderate hepatic steatosis. Additionally, three cases of cholelithiasis and two cases of hydronephrosis were diagnosed.
The health camp also offered antenatal scans, and 11 scans were conducted.
In Orthopedic OPD, a variety of patients attended the clinic. The majority of patients were suffering from LBA with radiculopathy. Ophthalmology OPD was attended by 85 patients. The predominant problem among the patients was congested pterygium, followed by refractive error, allergic conjunctivitis, dry eyes, and cataract.
During the camp, the ophthalmologists provided a range of services to the patients. Patients with congested pterygium were provided with appropriate treatment.
Patients with cataracts were referred for further evaluation and treatment, while patients with vernal keratoconjunctivitis and episcleritis were provided with appropriate medication and lifestyle modifications.
The camp was very well coordinated by BMO Gurez Dr Tahira with support from her staff at PHC Budupora. The camp organisers expressed their gratitude to DC Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad, concerned HODs of GMC Srinagar, CMO Bandipora, and SDM Gurez for their support and cooperation in conducting a successful camp and expect similar camps in such far-off places in the future too.

NIA Raids Five Locations In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency on Thursday conducted raids at five locations of the hybrid militants and OGWs in south Kashmir.
In a statement, NIA said, “Raids were carried out in Shopian, Awantipora, and Pulwama at the premises of hybrid militants and OGWs of the outfits and affiliates of Pakistan-backed banned militant organisations.”
“NIA also raided the premises of sympathisers and cadres of the newly floated outfits, namely The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF and others,” it reads.
“These outfits are affiliated to various banned Pak-backed organisations like Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, Al-Qaeda, etc. Several digital devices containing large volumes of incriminating data were recovered by NIA during today’s searches, which have once again put the spotlight on OGWs as an important part of the terror ecosystem in the Valley, which is being dismantled on a continuous basis. Also known as hybrid terrorists, they provide support to militants and terrorists based in Pakistan.”
It added that the NIA had registered a suo moto case (RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU) on 21st June 2022 to investigate the involvement of the cadres and OGWs of the various outfits in spreading activities relating to terror, violence, and subversion in J&K.
“These cadres and workers have been involved in the collection and distribution of sticky bombs/magnetic bombs, IEDs, funds, narcotic substances and arms/ammunitions.”
It further reads that the NIA investigations have revealed that Pak-based operatives were using social media platforms to promote terror.
“Drones were being used by them to deliver arms/ammunition, explosives, narcotics, etc. to their operatives and cadres in the Kashmir valley. The terror conspiracy relates to plotting by the banned outfits in both physical and cyberspace to unleash violent terrorist attacks in J&K with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms etc.”

As per the statement the organisations, supported by Pakistan, have been conspiring to commit acts of terror and violence, by radicalizing local youth and mobilizing overground workers, to disturb the peace and communal harmony in J&K—(KNO)

Aspirants can download their Admit Cards after the conduct of Physical Efficiency Test (PET) to be conducted by Department of Physical Education, University of Kashmir. The notification regarding the same will be issued separately;

Candidates must check their Roll Numbers and Centres allotted with the General Centre Notice, available on the University Website well before the commencement of the Entrance Test;
The candidates are advised to disperse after examination is over and should leave the examination centre immediately;
A candidate shall be admitted to Examination Hall only on production of a) Admit Card downloaded from Kashmir University website, and b) valid photo Identity Card;
Electronic devices like Mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, Calculators, Electronic Watches, etc. shall not be allowed in the Examination Hall and no arrangements for depositing the same shall be available in the examination hall. Possession of any such gadget shall invite action under rules;
Candidates must not carry any material related to the examination with them and possession of any such material shall invite punitive action;

Youth Stabbed By Friend, Injured

SRINAGAR: A youth was injured after being stabbed by his friend in Krangsoo area of Mattan in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
Quoting an official, KNO reported that Adnan Altaf of Krangsoo was stabbed by his friend outside his home after an argument.
He said Adnan received injuries in his arm and shoulder in the attack. “He was shifted to a hospital, where his condition is said to be stable,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.

12th Grade Student Found Dead In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A 12th grade student from the Daksum area of Kokernag was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his native village.
According to officials, the body of Mohsin Mushtaq Deka (18), a 12th grade student and son of Mushtaq Ahmad Deka from Dessu Daksum in Anantnag’s Kokernag hamlet, was discovered in suspicious circumstances.
