    Hyderabad: PCCF MC Pargaien reviews progress of road projects

    Hyderabad: Telangana principal chief conservator of forests and nodal officer MC Pargaien on Friday conducted review meeting of the progress of processing of various road proposals under Forest Conservation (FC) Act.

    Nearly 200 road proposals of various departments were reviewed in the meeting. More than 26 road projects have been accorded stage – 1 approval and are pending for compliance of deposition of compensatory levies, details of non-forest lands and other information.

    Nearly 71 proposals of roads falling in protected areas have been submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forest, New Delhi for approval of the National Board for Wild Life (NBWL). The remaining 103 proposals are under various stages of processing.

    Pargaien requested all the participants to resolve the pending issues on priority, duly keeping the recent changes in FC rules in mind, so that the project is executed as soon as possible.

    Pargaien said “Telangana forest department is going to organise an interactive training and capacity building workshop on Parivesh 2.0 – Pro-active and Responsive facilitation by Interactive, Virtuous and Environmental Single-window Hub, for online submission and monitoring of the proposals. The workshop will be conducted for officers of various users departments in May 2023.

    The Inspector General of Forests (Central) for Hyderabad region, Trinadh Kumar also interacted with all officers and clarified various issues relating to processing of proposal under FC Act, 1980.

    Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad Campus School recently organized a vision (eye) screening camp in association with the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH).

    The two-day camp was organised under the guidance of Prof. S V S Nageswara Rao, Chairman, of the Campus School Management Committee, P Murali, Principal i/C and Teachers of the Campus School. First-year Masters Students of Optometry and Vision Sciences volunteered and organized the free eye check-up camp for 404 students of the University of Hyderabad Campus School.

    Dr. Konda Nagaraju, Bindu Reddy and Meghana Mashagalla along with a team of 15 optometry masters students screened the students and provided referrals as required. Six stations were set up for comprehensive eye screening which include registration, history taking, visual acuity for distance and near, objective and subjective refraction, binocular vision screening (colour vision, HBT, cover tests), torch light examination and management, a press note informed.

    The camp was useful as it could identify some students with eye-related issues that needed correction. The early diagnosis helped in proper treatment to avoid further issues.

    Hyderabad: The Kulsumpura police, on Friday, arrested six men, including three rowdy sheeters, for allegedly beating a 16-year-old boy to death. 

    Baid Yogesh, Naigode Shankar, Ballem Sharath Kumar, Konde Varun Rao, Bodi Mahesh, and Kallukotala Raja Swamy were named by police as accused and were apprehended on Friday. Puranapool resident Akash, who is also named as an accused, is absconding.

    Bhosle Deepak Kumar, 21, a food delivery person, was accompanied by Mohammed Sohail, 16, student, while walking to a petrol bunk for fuel on April 22 at 9:30 PM in Jiyaguda.

    As the both were walking, they were approached by some five to six men, among them was Ballem Sharath Kumar, 19, who was acquainted with Deepak.

    According to police, the men said that one Faizan has taken away a bike that belonged to Baid Yogesh, 21, a GHMC labourer to which Deepak replied that he was aware of the incident. 

    The men asked Deepak for the whereabouts of Faizan, when he informed them that he had no idea where Faizan was. Upon being enraged by the situation, the men allegedly abused both Deepak and Sohail verbally and forcibly took them to Tadban road, Bahadurpura on their two-wheelers. 

    They beat both Deepak and Sohail on the roadside and then at around 3AM the next day, they were taken to a graveyard in Kamela Market and were attacked with wooden sticks and stones. 

    At 7 AM they were taken to the Musi river behind a mosque at Patel Hotel and beaten. 

    Deepak and Sohail were shifted to the terrace of K-block building, GHMC colony, Jiyaguda at 7 PM on the same day, April 23. They were beaten again, with belts and wooden sticks. 

    Sohail lost consciousness when Naigode Shankar allegedly attacked him with a beer bottle. After sometime the accused had left the scene and the neighbours found the both on the terrace at 4AM the next day, April 24.

    The police was informed about the incident and they were brought to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment. Sohail died while undergoing treatment. 

    Baid Yogesh, Konde Varun Rao and Kallukotala Raja Swamy are rowdy sheeters. Rao and Swamy were out on bail when they got involved in the present case.

    Hyderabad: Activists and heritage lovers are now worried that the historic Zenana building beside the Telangana High Court might be demolished to build a car parking space in its place. The structure has been in disuse for years and is being used as a parking space as of now.

    In a letter dated April 15 from the High Court’s Registrar, administrative sanction has been accorded for dismantling ‘H-Block High Court Legal Services Committee building, dog canal and the structures abutting the same for construction of multi-level car parking and the High Court writ petition no. 735 of 2023 by order dated April 4, 2023 has also directed the registry to take immediate steps for demoliton of the old building i.e. H-Black and the adjoining structures and keep the premises ready for commencement of construction of parking black in May 2023.

    The Zenana Hospital in Hyderabad is an important part of the city’s medical and social history, as it is linked to the Osmania General Hospital and the Chloroform Commission. The structure, known as the Victoria Memorial Hospital, was shifted to Petlaburj Maternity Hospital. It is now part of the High Court’s premises and was used by the fire department for the High Court and other ancillary purposes.

    The Victoria Memorial Hospital is also a listed site (II-B) according to the HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority). It cannot be demolished as it enjoys protection according to the High Court’s own ruling on the Irrum Manzil issue.

    Prior to this, a part of the land beside the Govt City College was to be made into a parking lot. However, college authorities did not like the idea and started building classrooms in the space.

    Hyderabad: Society for Earth Justice, a charitable organisation will be holding a round table meeting on the rejuvenation of the Musi River at the Soyab Hall, Sundarayya Vignana Kendram (SVK) in Bagh Lingampally.

    Musi, a tributary of Krishna River that flows in Hyderabad and surrounding areas is polluted by sewage and industrial waste containing toxic and hazardous materials such as heavy metals, phenols, and pesticides.

    This pollution is affecting crops, livestock, and dairy products, as well as causing skin problems, eye problems, and vomiting in certain seasons.

    Research highlights the severity of the issue, and its impact on the environment and public health, hence making it crucial to take action to prevent further pollution and protect the river and its surrounding areas.

    Hyderabad: The US Consulate in Hyderabad recently released a video regarding prohibited items at its Nanakramguda facility. The consulate serves as the largest US diplomatic mission in South Asia, and all visitors, including applicants for passport and visa services, individuals attending meetings or events, and even US citizens, must undergo security screening upon arrival.

    It is mandatory for visitors to carry government-issued identification, which must be the original document. Photocopies of IDs are not accepted. Additionally, visitors must ensure that the name on their identification matches the name on their appointment.

    List of items prohibited at US Consulate in Hyderabad

    There are several items that cannot be taken inside the US Consulate General in Hyderabad.

    Following is the list of prohibited items at the consulate

    1. Cell phones
    2. Battery-operated or electronic devices,
    3. Bags including purses, travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, and suitcases (Unsealed plastic bags, small cloth bags and zip folders)
    4. Food or drink items
    5. Cosmetics
    6. Sealed envelopes or packages
    7. Flammable items
    8. Sharp objects
    9. Weapons
    10. Long-handled umbrellas, and
    11. Powders of any kind, including religious-related powders or spices.

    As the list is not exhaustive, other items can be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.

    Upon arrival at the consulate, visitors will be asked to place all their belongings in a tray that goes through an X-ray machine. If any prohibited items are found, the applicant will be asked to leave the premises and come back after keeping them somewhere outside the premises of the US Consulate.

    New address of US Consulate at Nanakramguda

    The new facility of the US Consulate in Hyderabad is located at Sy. No. 115/1, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, Telangana, 500032.

    The new consulate office was built with an investment of USD 297 million and is situated on a 12.2-acre site with 54 visa processing windows.

    On March 15, 2023, the consulate officially ended its lease of Paigah Palace and began operations at the new facility on March 20, 2023.

    Hyderabad: The South Central Railway will operate four special trains between Secunderabad and Banaras to clear rush of passengers during Ganga Pushkaram.

    These trains will operate from April 29 and May 5. On April 29. The special Ganga Pushkaram trains will depart from Secunderabad at 9.40 p.m. and reach Banaras 06.30 a.m. on May 1. In the return direction, the train will depart from Banaras at 08.35 a.m on May 1 and reach Secunderabad at 6.15 p.m. on May 2.

    The second special train from Secunderabad will depart at 9.40 p.m. on May 3 and reach Banaras at 06.30 a.m. on May 5. The pairing train will depart from Banaras at 8.35 a.m. on May 5 and reach Secunderabad at 6.15 p.m. on May 6.

    Hyderabad: Month-long traffic restrictions have been announced for GHMC works on the Twince Box culvert at Chintal Market.

    According to a press release, the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) will be taking up the work for a period of 30 days from April 28, 2023 to May 28, 2023, around the Jeedimetla police station limits.

    The commuters are hereby advised to use suitable alternative roads to avoid traffic congestion due to diversions in the following stretches.

    Hyderabad: Two months old infant was kidnapped in heart of the city under Afzalgunj police station limits. Swati, the mother of the infant is eking life on the footpaths in the city.

    While the mother was asleep along with the child, an unknown lady aged about 30 years accompanied by a male associate, kidnapped the infant and fled from the area. When the mother realized that her child was kidnapped, she raised hue and cry.

    The Afzalgunj police immediately swung into action and checked the CCTV cameras in the area, in which they could successfully trace footage of the kidnapper lady and her associate. The police find that the kidnappers have boarded a RTC bus and proceeded towards the Falaknuma.
