Hyderabad: As May 1 is celebrated as Maharashtra Day and International Labour Day, banks across Hyderabad and several other Indian cities will remain closed. In addition to this, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced 11 other bank holidays for May 2023.
Other cities where banks will remain shut on May 1 are Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram.
List of bank holidays in May
The RBI has announced a total of 12 bank holidays for May 2023, which include four Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays. Six of these holidays are recognized under the Negotiable Instruments Act. It’s important to note that bank holidays may vary from state to state, so not all banks across the country will be closed on all 12 days.

Hyderabad: Eid-ul-Fitr which falls on the first of Shawwal is one of the most significant festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide and like in most parts of the world, the Telangana government has announced holidays for the celebrations.
As per the Telangana State Portal Calendar for 2023, the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in Telangana will be observed on April 22 and 23. Both holidays have been listed under ‘General Holidays’. April 22 has been declared a holiday due to Eid-ul-Fitr, while April 23 is a holiday for the ‘following day of Ramzan’.
Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in Telangana are declared based on assumption
It is important to note that the holiday dates in Telangana are based on the assumption that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday. However, the celebration of the festival is purely based on the sighting of the Moon.
In Hyderabad, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets on the 29th of Ramzan to declare when Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated. Their decision is based on the sighting of the crescent.
India may celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with Saudi Arabia
Usually, Eid is celebrated in India a day after it is celebrated in the Middle East. However, this year, there is a possibility of India celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
According to various reports, including one released by the British government, it may be nearly impossible to sight the crescent in the Middle East even by using a telescope on Thursday. If the prediction becomes true, Middle Eastern countries will celebrate Eid on Saturday. In India, if the crescent is sighted on Friday, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday.
Irrespective of when Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in India, Telangana has already declared two holidays on April 22 and 23. Incidentally, the second holiday falls on a Sunday.

Telangana: Shab-e-Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vuda holidays on April 19, 21

The previous dates were April 18 and April 14, but after receiving representations, the government has decided to make the change and issued orders on Saturday.
Shab-e-Qadr, also known as the Night of Power or Destiny, is a significant night in the Islamic calendar when Muslims believe the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. It is observed during the last ten days of Ramadan.
Jumat-ul-Vuda, meaning the “Last Friday” or “Farewell Friday,” is the last Friday in the month of Ramadan before the festival of Eid al-Fitr. It is considered a special day for prayers, reflection, and seeking blessings.
This year, the holy month of Ramzan in Hyderabad was observed peacefully, with citizens participating in prayers, fasting, and charitable activities.

Sharjah announces Eid Al-Fitr holidays for government sector

Sharjah government sector employees will get holidays from Thursday, April 20 to Sunday, April 23, 2023. They will have to resume work on April 24. These four days will be paid holidays.
The government agencies that work on shifts must make the necessary arrangements according to the nature and needs of their work.
According to astrologers, this year in the UAE, Ramzan will be 30 days longer.
This gives the most likely start of Eid Al-Fitr on Friday, April 21.
However, the official decision will be announced on the 29th day of the holy month of Ramzan, on Wednesday, April 19.

UAE announces Eid Al-Fitr holidays for public sector employees

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday announced the Eid Al-Fitr holidays for public sector employees.
Public sector employees will get holidays from Ramzan 29, Thursday, April 20 to Shawwal 3, Sunday, April 23, 2023. They will have to resume work on April 24. These four days will be paid holidays.
This came in a circular issued by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources on Thursday.
What is Eid Al-Fitr?
At the end of the holy month of Ramzan, Eid Al-Fitr is a holiday that marks the end of a full month of fasting. Practiced vary around the world, but it usually includes morning prayers, public holidays, visits with family and friends, new clothes and henna, gift-giving, and charitable contributions.
When is Eid Al-Fitr and how is it determined?
The end of the Ramzan is confirmed in the same way as the beginning, by the moon sighting committee, which is responsible for observing the crescent of the new moon.
The duration of the Ramzan is determined by the Islamic calendar, which consists of 12 lunar months with a total of 354 or 355 days.
This means that each month can last either 29 or 30 days.
According to astrologers, this year in the UAE, Ramzan will be 30 days long.
This gives the most likely start of Eid Al-Fitr on Friday, April 21.
However, the official decision will be announced on the 29th day of the holy month of Ramzan, on Wednesday, April 19.

Representative image Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on Monday announced a holiday for the private sector and non-profits for Eid Al-Fitr 2023.
The Eid Al-Fitr holiday will begin in the Kingdom at the end of the working day on Thursday, April 20, for four days.
The announcement of the holiday was made by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development on Twitter.
Thus, employees will enjoy extended leave in addition to the usual Friday and Saturday weekend before resuming work in some offices on Thursday, April 27.
Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan, which began on March 23.
