    Hyderabad: In preparation ahead of the upcoming Hanuman Jayanti procession, city police commissioner CV Anand held a meeting with stakeholders.

    In a meeting senior officers from the EMRI, GHMC, Cantonment, Roads and Building department, Fire Department and TSRTC met with officials from the police commissioners of Rachakonda, Cyberabad and Hyderabad commissionerates. They were also joined by Bajarangdal and VHP members.

    According to a press release from the Hyderabad police, the city police, to identify troublemakers, said it will keep track of everyone who attends the procession. Anand also emphasised the need of adhering to the established procession routes, detours, and schedules.

    CP Anand and the organizers and officials from other departments later inspected the 12 km procession route, which covers Rammandir (Gowliguda), Puthlibowli, YMCA, RTC X road, Bible House, and Hanuman Temple, Tadbund.

    Hyderabad: Telangana chief secretary Santhi Kumari on Friday held a meeting with officials of the industries department and took stock of the progress achieved on setting up Special Food Processing zones in the state.

    Principal secretary (industries) Jayesh Ranjan, TSIIC MD Narsimha Reddy and other officials were present. Kumari said that the vision of chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is to transform the state in food and agriculture sector and set up food processing zones based on the demand and feasibility in each district.

    She directed the officials to formulate a strategy to promote food processing zones in seven places where there is a huge potential and demand from prospective investors.

    “With the increasing paddy production in the State there is a need to promote setting up rice mills in these food processing zones,” she told officials.

    The Telangana chief secretary asked the officials to give top priority and complete the process of allotting the lands for setting up rice mills within next four to five months. She also asked them to take steps to operationalize the concept of setting up Aqua Hub in the Mid Manair Reservoir.

    London: The members of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) UK chapter gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Parliament Square here in a show of solidarity with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been disqualified from Lok Sabha following a two-year sentence in a defamation case.

    The group of supporters carrying placards reading “Daro Mat” (Don’t be scared) and “Indian Democracy in Danger” and the tricolour gathered opposite the Houses of Parliament in London on Sunday, coordinating with nationwide Opposition protests in India.

    “The IOC leaders reminded [the gathering of] Rahul Gandhi’s stand to defend India’s hard-fought democracy,” IOC UK said in a statement.

    “IOC President Kamal Dhaliwal praised Rahul Gandhi and called for everyone to remember that his fight to protect India’s democracy was a fight to protect the freedoms of all Indians. A fight that was led by Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi and continues today,” the statement said.

    It added that while IOC UK Senior Vice-President Gurminder Randhawa and spokesperson Sudhakar Goud reiterated the message of “Daro Mat”, youth wing leader Imam warned that the BJP government is “undermining Indian institutions and democratic system”.

    “IOC Leader Suju mentioned that Rahulji’s disqualification as an MP is distressful not only for Congress supporters but also for the people of India, the largest democracy in the world,” IOC UK said.

    Hyderabad: A meeting was held by Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services’s Director General Nagi Reddy on Wednesday to ensure fire safety measures in fire hazardous industries, chemical and scrap godowns etc. are present. The meeting was held in view of the ensuing summer season.

    An action plan was drafted to ensure preparedness of all fire stations across Telangana to face any type of fire related incidents in the ensuring summer.

    The following instructions were issued to the ground level officers:

    All fire vehicles, fire pumps and other fire fighting and rescue equipment kept in good working condition for responding to fire and emergency calls, all officers and personnel were asked not to go on any leave until completion of summer season except on extreme emergencies.

    Officials of the fire department were asked to identify and inspect water filling sources for fire vehicles in all fire station areas and be on high alert.

    Instructions were issued to all Fire department officers and personnel to visit hospitals and high rise buildings and inspect the fire and life safety measures and conduct fire audit, train and educate the staff on fire safety, guide the management to prepare fire preparedness plan and conduct fire drill once in every three months.

    Officials were asked to conduct basic fire fighting training to the security guards, employees of high rise buildings, hospitals, industries, cinema theatres at the Telangana State Fire Services and Civil Defence Training Institute, Vattinagulapalli, Ranga Reddy District.

    The Fire department’s director general asked the fire department officials to maintain close liaison with Hyderabad Metro Water Works, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations and other Municipalities to ensure uninterrupted water supply in case of fire accidents to Fire vehicle.

    Mandya: Thousands of people and party workers thronged on either side of the road in Mandya and cheered Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is holding a roadshow on Sunday. PM Modi was showered with flowers by the crowd.

    Modi arrived in poll-bound Karnataka to participate in various programmes. He landed in a special flight at the Mysuru airport.

    The roadshow will be held between the 1.8 km stretch of Pravasi Mandir Circle to Nanda Circle. He will address a public rally at Gejjalagere Colony after inaugurating the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.

    Meanwhile, people and various groups staged a protest near Kanaminike toll plaza in Bengaluru South taluk opposing PM Modi’s programme. The protesters raised slogans against PM Modi and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for inaugurating the expressway without the construction of a service road.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Karnataka. He will dedicate India’s longest railway platform in Hubballi.

    Ruling BJP government in the state has made elaborate arrangements for PM Modi’s visit. The 10-lane expressway has been projected as one of the biggest contributions of the double engine government. All major political parties in the state are engaged in a war of words for claiming the credit.

    The expressway was built at a cost of Rs 8,479. PM Modi will dedicate a 1.5 km long railway platform at the Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station to the nation. According to South Western Railways, it is also the world’s longest platform.

    Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Smithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha’s Bharat Jagruthi is staging a day-long hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi from 9 am to 4 pm on Friday demanding the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the current parliament session.

    The inaugural session was held at 10 am by senior leaders and general secretary of CPI Sitaram Yechury followed by K Kavitha’s address on the hunger strike.

    The Sit-in Dharna has attendees from opposition parties and women’s organisations who have supported the Women’s Reservation Bill from across India.

    The protest will also witness programs like plays and songs while expecting around 5,000 supporters from 18 political parties to participate in it.

    Several Opposition leaders including Sitaram AAP- Sanjay Singh and Chitra Sarwara, Shiv Sena- Delegation, Akali Dal – Naresh Gujral, PDP- Anjum Javed Mirza, NC- Dr Shami Firdous, TMC- Sushmita Dev, JDU- KC Tyagi, NCP- Dr Seema Malik, Narayana K – CPI, Sitaram Yechury -CPM, Samajwadi party – Pooja Shukla, RLD – Shyam Rajak, MP Kapil Sibal are expected to take part.

    Spearheaded by BRS MLC K Kavitha, around 500-600 people will sit on hunger strike, demanding the Centre to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill which has been long pending and ensure 33 percent reservation for women in the Parliament and state legislatures.

    Following directions from the BRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao, ministers Satyavathi Rathod and P Sabitha Indra Reddy along with women MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders from BRS will participate in the day-long demonstration.

    Nagpur: The Nagpur citizen’s Forum held a protest today demanding an increase in the number of public urinals for women under the ‘Right to Pee’ campaign.

    Nagpur Citizens Forum launched a ‘Right to Pee’ campaign to demand clean, safe and free toilets for the citizens on December 30, 2021.

    Under this campaign, the ‘Nagpur Citizens Forum’ surveyed and examined the situation by visiting the toilets available in different parts of the city”, a member of the forum said.

    Various members of the Citizen’s forum participated in the protest and raised slogans demanding better urinal facilities for women in public places from the government.

    Advocate Smita Singhalkar, a Women Activist and a member of the forum said that unhealthy urinals might lead to various diseases and improper public urinals site often result in crimes against women and girls.

    “The lack of adequate public toilets is a matter of concern. Women and girls are forced to use other people’s improper or private washrooms, which may lead to crimes such as rape or sexual harassment,” said Smita.

    “It’s very important to provide better urinal facilities to females. Thus, on this women’s day, we demand to increase the number of better public urinals under the Right to Pee campaign from the Maharashtra government,” Smita added.

    Informing about the surveys conducted in the rural areas, Smita said, “Even the schools that are present in the rural areas do have not proper washrooms and girls are forced to request the nearby people to use their washroom. Such kind of negligence may lead to crimes against these girls”.

    She also said that their organisation filed a PIL a few years back but no specific or recognisable actions have been taken by the government. Also, it is necessary to increase the number of public toilets in the area and provide better facilities in the existing washrooms such as better gates, tap water, electricity, etc.

    Further, they urged the government to take necessary actions in constructing hygienic and safe public toilets for women to avoid crimes against them.

    Qazigund (Kulgam), Mar 3 (GNS): The Kulgam Working Journalists Association held an important meeting which was presided over by President at town hall Qazigund in Kulgam district on Friday.

    After three hours-long discussion and deliberation, the working committee and executive body of KWJA reaffirmed that the Association will work for the welfare of media persons besides safeguarding the interests of working journalists.

    “KWJA believes in ethics of journalism. We will always support professional journalists and there is no space for those indulging in blackmailing, extortion and yellow journalism”, reads a statement issued to GNS.

    Those attended the meeting was Abdul Hamid Bhat (President), Khursheed Paroo, Azhar Hussain, Fayaz Jamal Bhat, Khurshid Alam, Tariq Yousuf, Kousar Gull, Shabir Ahamd, Ashiq Ali, Umaisar Gull, Younus Rashid, Aadil Bashir, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Gazi Yaqoob, Suhaib Farooq and another joined through virtual mode.

    Notably, the Kulgam Working Journalists Association (KWJA), as per the statement, came into existence in year 2007 when Kulgam got district status. The association has so far witnessed election of five presidents through proper electoral process from (2007-2023). The elected presidents so far include; Farooq Rather, Khurshid Padroo, Abdul Hamid, Tanveer Wani and Khurshid Alam.

    The strength of journalists in KWJA, the statement reads, currently stands at 16 who are working for reputed media houses among them half dozen have experience of 10 years in the field of journalism. (GNS)
