    London: Sonam Kapoor took centre stage at the Coronation Concert as she introduced various choir performers of the Commonwealth. Sonam’s piece served as a prelude to the inspiring virtual choir performances by the Commonwealth, made up of choirs, solo artists and duos from the 56 Commonwealth countries.

    Sonam also introduced Steve Winwood, who performed a modern version of his iconic song ‘Higher Love’ accompanied by a 70-piece orchestra.

    She began her speech with ‘Namaste’. She was introduced as one of the biggest actors in Bollywood. The ‘Khoobsurat’ actor emphasized the diversity of the Commonwealth during her spoken word performance. She also elucidated upon the oneness that binds the diversity of the nation.

    Sonam’s video was shared by her mother Sunita Kapoor. She wrote in the caption, “So proud! Such an honour!” Sonam also replied back to her post saying ‘love you’ with heart emojis.

    Sonam’s family gave her the loudest shout-out. From Arjun Kapoor to Sanjay Kapoor, Maheep Kapoor and Bhavna Panday posted emojis on Sunita’s post.

    Ahead of her performance at the historic Coronation Concert, Sonam Kapoor unveiled the mystery over her dress. Known to be a fashionista, the ‘Neerja’ actor opted for a classy and elegant Bardot gown for the occasion. She sported minimal makeup and an accessory look.

    Taking to Instagram, the actor shared a string of pictures from the special photo shoot. While the first picture of the set holds a close-up portfolio of the actor, the others showcase her beautiful dress from different angles. Sonam’s dress was designed by her favourites Anamika Khanna and Emilia Wickstead.

    Dhaka: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on the eve of the Eid-ul-Fitr, wishing peace, harmony, good health and happiness for the people across the world, a statement from the premier’s office here said.

    Modi also praised Hasina, saying that as a result of her personal initiative the multilateral partnership-based relationship between India and Bangladesh transformed into a “role model of neighbourly relations” in the world.

    “On behalf of the people of India, I convey my Eid greetings to you and the people of Bangladesh,” Modi said in his message to Prime Minister Hasina.

    Extending his greetings on behalf of India, Modi wished for peace, harmony, good health and happiness for the people of the two countries and across the world.

    The Indian prime minister said that he looked forward to continuing work with Hasina to take the bilateral relations to “new heights.”

    Bangladesh is set to hold general elections in late December 2023 or early January 2024, months ahead of the elections in India.

    Prime Minister Modi noted that during the holy month of Ramzan, Muslims around the world performed fasting and prayers and “on this auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the people of the world along with the Muslim Ummah are realising the values of unity and brotherhood”, the statement said.

    Bangladesh authorities said the country would celebrate the festival on Saturday in line with the Arabic lunar calendar since the moon, marking the start of the Shawwal month, was sighted this evening.

    New Delhi: India is making a “substantial” contribution towards global stability and security, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday while extending his greetings to the country on the occasion of its 74th Republic Day.

    In a message to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Putin also highlighted India’s achievements in the economic, social, scientific, technological and other spheres, according to the Russian embassy here.

    French President Emmanuel Macron too greeted Modi and said he looks forward to setting new ambitions for the India-France strategic partnership.

    “As India celebrates Republic Day, I convey my warmest wishes to my dear friend @NarendraModi and the Indian people. I look forward to setting new ambitions together for the G20 and for our Indo-French strategic partnership as it turns 25 this year,” Macron wrote on Twitter.

    Putin, in his message, said: “India’s achievements in the economic, social, scientific, technological and other spheres are widely known.”

    “Your country is making a substantial contribution to ensuring international stability and security and to addressing vital issues on the regional and global agenda,” he said.

    Putin’s comments came amid escalating tensions between Russia and the western powers over the Ukraine conflict.

    India has been pushing for the resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

    Putin said Moscow puts a “high value” on its privileged strategic partnership with New Delhi.

    “I am confident that by working together we can ensure the continued growth of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in all areas,” he added.

    “This undoubtedly meets the fundamental interests of the friendly peoples of Russia and India,” the Russian president said.
