Modi Government`s Big Decision! LPG Cylinder To Cost Rs 200 Less For These Consumers

NEW DELHI: The government on Friday extended the Rs 200 per LPG cylinder subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) by one year in the wake of high prices of petroleum products in the international market. The move will benefit 9.6 crore families. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of PMUY, I&B Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters.

As of March 1, 2023, there were 9.59 crore PMUY beneficiaries. Further, the minister said the total expenditure will be Rs 6,100 crore for the financial year 2022-23 and Rs 7,680 crore for 2023-24.

The subsidy is credited directly to the bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries. Thakur said there has been a sharp increase in international prices of LPG due to various geopolitical reasons and it is important to shield PMUY beneficiaries from high LPG prices.

An official release said that targeted support to PMUY consumers encourages them for continuous use of LPG.

“It is important to ensure sustained LPG adoption and usage among PMUY consumers so that they can completely switch to cleaner cooking fuel,” it said.

The average LPG consumption of PMUY consumers has increased by 20 per cent from 3.01 refills in 2019-20 to 3.68 in 2021-22. All PMUY beneficiaries are eligible for the targeted subsidy.

  • NC slams Rs 50 hike in LPG domestic cylinder price

    [ad_1]

Srinagar Mar 2 (GNS): National Conference Provincial Vice President and In Charge Constituency Lal Chowk Ahsan Pardesi on Thursday said that rising inflation and exorbitant taxation have added burden to peoples expenses.

He said this while chairing a Women’s wing meeting of the Lal Chowk constituency at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar. The convention was convened by the party’s Provincial President Women’s wing, Kashmir Er. Sabiya Qadri.

“Rising inflation, exorbitant electricity tariffs, steep increase in cost of LPG, curtailment of ration and imposition of property tax have added burden on common man’s pockets,” he said adding, “what has further compounded the woes of our people situation is the shifting  focus of the incumbent administration from welfarism.”

“There is no comfort for the vast majority of BPL and middle class households who are already grappling with reduced incomes. The inflation  pull and exorbitant taxation has increased the out of pocket expenditure of people on edibles, medicines, and other utility services. The ongoing situation has triggered anxiety and flared up other Physiological issues among them,” he said.

He further said that measures like increasing electricity tariff, LPG price are pushing poor households to unclean cooking fuels. “With LPG prices crossing the Rs 1200-mark, the poor now have to make unfair choices about their basic standard of life. It’s our mothers and sisters who are again at the receiving end of it. Much of a poor household’s income is eaten up by paying taxes, utility charges, and out of pocket expenditure on edibles and grains,” he said.

Lamenting the curtailment of ration at the FCCI depots, Er. Sabiya Qadri said consumers are troubled on one pretext or another. “It makes no sense to curtail rationing at a time when we people have been suffering immensely due to increased water and power tariff,  soaring inflation and unemployment. Neither there is kerosene, nor flour. There is no sugar and now the additional ration has been stopped as well. The current entitlement of ration quota is not sufficient for any family. Government can’t be so insensitive towards its own people,” he added. (GNS)

Addressing a press conference here, Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said, “This was the reason that domestic LPG cylinder price did not cross Rs 500. You will be surprised to know that the same subsidy in the last nine years of the Modi government stood at Rs 36,598 crore.”

Telangana: Revanth vows cylinder for Rs 500 once in power

    [ad_1]

Telangana Congress chief made a bold announcement that, if the Congress wins the election, gas cylinders will be made available to the state’s poor for just Rs 500.

He paid a visit to Manuguru on Monday as a part of the Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra. In addition, he added, the party would provide each family who was financially struggling Rs 5 lakh to build a house. While promising to distribute pattas (land deeds) for podu lands if Congress takes office, he asked tribal farmers to vote for them.

He stated that all communities in the state are served by Congress, which is committed to doing so.

Revanth charged that K Chandrasekhar Rao, the chief minister, defrauded the Godavari flood victims by making fictitious pledges to construct homes for them. He met the flood victims on his tour and offered his support.

Revanth travelled on foot from Gollagudem in Ashwapuram Mandal to the Ambedkar Center on the seventh day of the walkathon. Later, he spoke at a public gathering in the Manuguru Mandal-controlled village of Gollapalli.

The TPCC president appealed to the people dissatisfied with the current administration to take into account Congress’ history of helping the people, accusing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi-led state government of defrauding all segments of society during the last eight years.

Revanth made fun of the chief minister’s remarks during recent Assembly sessions. He asserted that Rao had lauded Manmohan Singh’s administration because he was courting Congress out of fear of the party’s influence in the state.

After Telangana was announced, he referred to KCR as a ‘great cheat’ and questioned how he had deserted Congress. He chastised the chief minister for his contradictory political beliefs and behaviour.
