    Srinagar, Mar 03: Around 0.2 percent population in J&K have hearing disabilities with aging and chronic exposure to loud noises contributing to hearing loss.

    Dr Saima Tabassum consultant ENT J&K health services told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that there are three main types of hearing loss including conductive, sensorineural, and mixed (both conductive and sensorineural).

    The World Hearing Day is being observed for awareness about preventable hearing loss & deafness, ear health and care.

    Dr Saima said that good hearing is crucial for communication, learning, and overall well-being because there is a highly-involved collaboration between ears and brains. “Our sense of hearing transmits and translates sounds of all kinds from our surroundings. So we can learn and understand,” she added.

    According to the doctor, every 3rd or 4th person in each family has some sort of hearing impairment that’s why one shouldn’t ignore ear health.

    Another ENT specialist from GMC told KNO that the signs and symptoms of hearing loss may include muffling of speech and other sounds, difficulty understanding words especially against background noise or in a crowd, trouble hearing consonants, frequently asking others to speak more slowly, clearly and loudly.

    He said causes of hearing loss include damage to the inner ear as aging and exposure to loud noise may cause wear and tear on hairs or nerve cells in the cochlea that send sound signals to the brain.

    “When these hairs or nerve cells are damaged or missing, electrical signals aren’t transmitted as efficiently, and hearing loss occurs,” he said.

    Ear war can block ear canal and prevent conduction of sound waves and earwax removal can help restore your hearing.

    He also said that In the outer or middle of ear, any of these issues can cause hearing loss and loud blasts of noise, sudden changes in pressure, poking your eardrum with an object and infection can cause your eardrum to rupture and affect your hearing—(KNO)

    Fully prepared to contribute to Ukraine peace process: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

    New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India was fully prepared to contribute to the peace process to find a solution to the Ukraine conflict.

    “From the very beginning of the Ukraine conflict, India has made it clear that this dispute can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. India is fully prepared to contribute to any peace process,” Modi said after bilateral talks with visiting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

    Addressing the media alongside Modi, Meloni said Italy hoped that India, during its G-20 presidency, plays a central role in facilitating and negotiating the process for cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.

    Modi said he and the Italian Prime Minister voiced concerns over the adverse impact the Ukraine conflict has had on developing countries.

    He said all countries have been impacted by the food, fertiliser and fuel crisis triggered by the Ukraine conflict.

    “Especially, developing countries have been affected adversely. We voiced our concerns on this issue and stressed on joint efforts to address these issues,” Modi said.

    Modi’s remarks on the Ukraine crisis come at a time when foreign ministers of G-20 countries are meeting here.

    Registration starts this Monday and runs until March 31, 2023; each selected will receive BRL 50,000

    A CNI (National Confederation of Industry) and the Sebrae launched this Monday (27.feb.2023) a public call to qualify 10 environments that promote innovation. The initiative takes place under the Internationalization Program of both entities.

    Each selected will receive R$ 50,000. Entries to compete are open until March 31 at program website.

    According to a press release (full – 329 KB), the purpose of the action is “consolidating what is most disruptive in the country and promoting its inclusion in an international innovation management platform”.

    To participate, those interested must be headquartered in Brazil and must meet startups and ICTs (Science and Technology Institutions), public or private, through mapping and registration. The complete rules can be found at initiative notice.

    Spaces conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship are considered innovation environments. They are responsible for linking companies, government, institutions and other categories.

    The work in these environments can take place in two spheres:

    • innovation ecosystems:
      • junction of infrastructure with institutional and cultural arrangements;
      • attract entrepreneurs and financial resources;
      • examples: smart cities, innovation districts and technology hubs.
    • business generation mechanisms:
      • promoters of innovative ventures;
      • support the development of new technology-based companies.

    “Support for mapping Brazilian disruptive technologies will allow for the country’s international insertion and visibility. Showing the world Brazil as an innovative country is a priority both for CNI, as well as for Business Mobilization for Innovation”, said the Director of Innovation at CNI, Gianna Sagazio.

    The current call is the 2nd under the CNI and Sebrae agreement. The partnership lasts for 3 years and stipulates the opening of 6 calls for companies.

    The 1st call was launched on November 25, 2022 with a focus on qualifying and training startups through virtual programs. At the end of the stage, 7 startups will be selected to participate in a 10-day residency program in New York. Entitled “Land-to-Launch”, takes place from July to June 2023.

  • UAE willing to contribute to India’s 500-GW clean energy goal: COP28 president-designate Al Jaber

    UAE willing to contribute to India’s 500-GW clean energy goal: COP28 president-designate Al Jaber

    [ad_1]

    New Delhi: The UAE will explore all opportunities of partnership with India to contribute to New Delhi’s high-growth-low-carbon pathway, Sultan Al Jaber, the COP28 president-designate, said on Wednesday.

    He also said the goal of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial level is “just non-negotiable”.

    Al Jaber said India is on its way to becoming the third largest economy in the world and this makes it one of the largest consumers of energy. As such, India’s sustainable development is critical not just for itself but for the whole world.

    “India’s goal of adding 500 gigawatt of clean energy in next seven years is a true and a powerful statement of intent. As one of the largest investors in renewable energy, the UAE and Masdar (renewable energy investing firm) will explore all opportunities of partnership with India to contribute to its high-growth-low-carbon pathway,” he said.
    “Keeping the goal of 1.5 (degrees Celsius) alive is just non-negotiable. And, it is also clear that we cannot continue business as usual. It simply won’t get us there,” the UAE’s climate envoy said at the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) organised by The Energy and Resources Institute here.

    “We need a true, comprehensive paradigm shift in our approach to adaptation, mitigation, finance and loss and damage,” he said.

    Keeping the goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius alive means taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming 1.5 degrees Celsius from the pre-industrial level to and prevent the worst impacts of climate change.

  • Armenia’s quake support to contribute to normalization of ties: Turkish FM

    Armenia’s quake support to contribute to normalization of ties: Turkish FM

    [ad_1]

    Ankara: Armenia’s humanitarian support to victims of last week’s massive earthquakes in southern Turkey can further contribute to the normalisation of relations between the two neighbours, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

    “This understanding of cooperation can contribute to our ongoing normalization process,” Cavusoglu said at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in the Turkish capital Ankara, Xinhua news agency reported.

    Cavusoglu also thanked Armenia for sending search and rescue teams to save quake victims and delivering humanitarian aid immediately after Turkey was rocked by the strong tremors.

    “Armenia has offered a hand of friendship and solidarity in our difficult time,” he said.

    “We have agreed to take steps to accelerate the normalization (of ties),” the Turkish minister said, referring to the dialogue launched last year aimed at ending their decades-old hostilities.

    Turkey and Armenia will reconstruct the bridges and roads connecting the border, he said.

    Mirzoyan paid a visit to Turkey on Wednesday after the devastating earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria on February 6. It is Mirzoyan’s second trip to Turkey after meeting Cavusoglu in an international forum in March last year.

    “Being in Turkey in these difficult times, I would like to once again confirm our willingness to build peace, for the full normalisation and opening the borders between Turkey and Armenia,” said the Armenian top diplomat.

    In a symbolic act, the border between Turkey and Armenia, which had been closed for more than 30 years, was opened on Saturday to allow the delivery of Armenia’s humanitarian aid to quake-hit Turkey, Mirzoyan said, adding the second batch of Armenian aid crossed the border on Tuesday night.

    The relations between Turkey and Armenia were severed in 1993 during the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. Ankara closed its border with Armenia to show support for Azerbaijan.

    Opening the border was one of the key issues Armenia demanded since last year as the two countries stepped up the normalisation dialogue.
