Women should realise their potential: Commissioner C V Anand

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: City police commissioner C V Anand said here on Saturday that women alone can realise their potential and they should seize the day.

“Women have to realize that no one is going to give you. You must go and get it,” the police commissioner said while attending the annual general session and Change of Guard of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry The FICCI’s ladies’ organization and Young FICCI ladies’ organization.

“I have always encouraged my wife to pursue her dreams, studies, go out, help others,” he said.

“When I came to know that there has never been a woman SHO (station house officer), I promptly appointed one in Lalaguda police station. She has outperformed her male counterparts in the last year,” C V Anand said.

Anand suggested women should actively take part and be encouraged to become entrepreneurs, including the rural areas.

Ritu Shah succeeded Shubhraa Maheshwari as FLO chairperson and Arthi Shah succeeded Sonali Modi Saraf as YFLO chairperson for the year 2023-2024.

Delivering her address, Shubhraa Maheshwari described the journey as incredible, filled with experiences, challenges, triumphs, and memories.

“Our team strived hard to bring value to members through many speaker sessions from the likes of Nitin Gadkari, Rajat Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, Sonu Sood, R Madhavan, Mithali Raj, and many more. We could impact 25,000 women pan-India through our national financial literacy initiative. The digital literacy and education initiatives have benefitted over 1,000 school and college-going girl children,” she said.

Hyderabad: TGPWU writes to Addl commissioner for meet with Urban Company

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana Gig And Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) submitted a letter to the Additional Commissioner of Labour Dr E Gangadhar requesting a meeting with app-based service provider Urban Company.

“These companies are providing employment to each section of the workforce including building and construction workers. It is needless to say that such companies are making huge profits. However they are misusing the law by not paying their due share to the government,” the letter stated.

The letter also asked tech companies under the purview of the Building and Other Construction Workers Cess Act, 1996. “We urge the government to create a mechanism for the collection of cess and workers associated/registered in these companies under the Telangana Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. “This will ensure benefits and social security,” the letter said.

“Urban Company should also pay mandatory cess per construction job as per rules. We hope that you will take this appeal on priority and call a meeting to discuss the aforesaid, at the earliest,” the letter concluded.

  • Court summons Lucknow police commissioner, 8 other cops for disclosing juvenile accused’s identity

Court summons Lucknow police commissioner, 8 other cops for disclosing juvenile accused’s identity

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: A special court here has directed the Lucknow police commissioner and eight other police personnel to appear before it for allegedly making public the identity of a juvenile apprehended in connection with a case of fraud.

The court fixed April 4 for appearance of these police personnel.

Judge Vijendra Tripathi passed the order on Tuesday on a complaint filed by Sunil Kumar, who is ‘peshkar’ (reader) of the Juvenile Justice Board.

Kumar had filed the complaint on the instructions of the board as it had been apprised that the police personnel had willingly disclosed the identity of the juvenile on the Facebook wall of Lucknow police commissioner.

It was apprised to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court that the accused was held by the police in a fraud case and was produced in the court which referred the matter to the Juvenile Justice Board after learning that he was a juvenile.

Kumar said in the court that despite the accused being a juvenile, his identity was disclosed on the Facebook wall of the Lucknow police commissioner on February 7 and 8, based on which several newspapers and news channels broadcast the news.

The court was informed that the act of the police was “totally illegal” and against the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

  • Eric Adams support for Cardi B performance puts him at odds with his police commissioner

Eric Adams support for Cardi B performance puts him at odds with his police commissioner

    [ad_1]

On Friday, however, Adams praised the idea, putting him in agreement with Holmes and at odds with Sewell.

“There are those who critique: Why would you bring Cardi B because she was arrested?” Adams said. “The same reason why you brought Cardi B is why people voted for me, because I was arrested. You don’t discard people.”

Holmes had also butted heads with Sewell after nixing a timed fitness requirement for recruits, according to a report in the New York Post. While Sewell first shot down the idea, Holmes later went directly to Adams and got the change approved.

On Friday, the mayor praised Holmes’ 35 years in the NYPD and said she was the right person to lead the probation department, in part because of her forgiving nature.

“This is the best fit: someone that understands that you don’t throw people away,” the mayor said. “And I think it’s reflected with what she did with Cardi B.”

Holmes’ departure is part of a broader shakeup in the department. Multiple chiefs have left this year as the NYPD settles under the new leadership of Sewell and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks, an Adams confidant who also exerts influence over the department.
