Washington: Yet again, Twitter CEO Elon Musk is back with new updates for the micro-blogging site, and this time he has changed the iconic blue bird logo – which has served as a home button on the web version, with the “doge” meme of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.
Twitter users noticed the ‘doge’ meme, which is part of the logo of the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency and was created as a joke in 2013, on the web version of Twitter on Monday.
Musk also shared a hilarious post on his account wherein the ‘doge’ meme (which features the face of a Shiba Inu) in the car and telling the police officer, who seems to be seeing his driving license, that his photo has been changed.
Notably, there was no change on Twitter’s mobile app.
It is pertinent to mention that the doge image (of a Shiba Inu) is well-known as the logo of the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency, which was created as a joke in 2013 — to mock other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Variety reported.
Twitter’s CEO also shared the screenshot of the March 26, 2022, conversation between him and the anonymous account where the latter was asking to change the bird logo to “doge.” Sharing this post on Twitter, Musk wrote, “As promised.”
According to Variety, Musk, who bought Twitter last fall in a USD 44 billion deal, is a well-known superfan of the Doge meme and he has promoted Dogecoin both on Twitter and during his appearance last year hosting “Saturday Night Live.” After the change to Twitter’s web logo Monday, the value of Dogecoin rose more than 20 percent.
After Musk tweeted in March 2022, prior to mounting his eventually successful bid to buy Twitter, “Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” Musk tweeted.
@WSBChairman had responded, “just buy Twitter… and change the bird logo to a doge.” Musk responded, “Haha that would be sick”.
He had also posted another photo stating, “Seize the Memes of Production.”
Earlier, on February 15, Musk’s love for ‘doge’ was visible as he posted the photograph of the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency logo, posing as the CEO, on his account with the caption, “The new CEO of Twitter is amazing.”

New York: As April Fool’s Day came and passed, the blue check marks on Twitter remained for legacy verified accounts and Elon Musk was yet to remove them and make those users pay $8 (Rs 900 a month in India) to remain verified.
Almost all legacy Blue check marks were intact on Monday, two days after the Musk deadline.
A new verified tagline for legacy Blue users now reads: “This account is verified because it is subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account”.
Twitter CEO on Sunday said that verification of accounts will help a lot.
“We are adding the date of verification to the profile. Note, only date since paid verification counts, since there was so much corruption in the past with legacy checkmarks,” he tweeted.
Musk has removed just one blue badge – that for the account of the New York Times which posted that it will not pay $8 for the verified Blue service with verification.
“Oh ok, we’ll take it off then,” the Twitter CEO posted.
However, Twitter can still remove legacy Blue check marks (unless it was indeed an April Fool’s Day prank).
According to Musk, only verified accounts will be allowed to appear in ‘For You recommendations’, starting April 15.
“Starting April 15, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations. This is the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle. Voting in polls will require verification for the same reason, he said last week.
“That said, it’s ok to have verified bot accounts if they follow terms of service and don’t impersonate a human,” Musk added.
Meanwhile, a report recently revealed that half of Blue service subscribers have less than 1,000 followers on the platform.
Twitter is also reportedly planning to give a $1,000 checkmark free to the top 10,000 organisations by follower count.

Actor William Shatner tweeted at Musk: “Now you’re telling me that I have to pay for something you gave me for free? What is this – the Columbia Records & Tapes Club?”
Michael Thomas, a wide receiver for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, posted: “Don’t nobody want that raggedy blue check no way anymore”.
Activist-lawyer Monica Lewinsky posted a set of screenshots showing several Twitter accounts impersonating her.
“Well this is going to be fun. In what universe is this fair to people who can suffer consequences for being impersonated? A lie travels halfway around the world before truth even gets out the door”, she posted.
Meanwhile, Musk-run Twitter has removed the Blue badge of The New York Times, barely a week after he announced a new policy for keeping verification badges.

On the other hand, Aprameya Radhakrishna, CEO and Co-founder of Koo, has invited leading US newspaper and all other news organisations around the world to join the platform.
“Inviting @nytimes and all other news organisations around the world to join Koo where there is no price for your voice. Koo provides free lifetime verification for all notable personalities and organisations. Fake news is a menace around the world,” he tweeted.
Moreover, commenting on the removal of The New York Times‘ Blue Badge, Musk tweeted: “The real tragedy of @NYTimes is that their propaganda isn’t even interesting”.
“Also, their feed is the Twitter equivalent of diarrhoea. It’s unreadable. They would have far more real followers if they only posted their top articles. Same applies to all publications,” he added.
Twitter’s ‘Verification for Organisations’ service is now available globally.
The platform last month tweeted from its ‘Twitter Verified’ account: “Verified Organisations are available globally. We are now sending email invitations to approved organisations from the waitlist.”
The company also announced to remove all legacy Blue verified checkmarks for both individual users and organisations from April 1.
Twitter Blue is now available globally and users can get Blue Verified for $7 a month if they sign up via a web browser.
