  • NC asks govt to address concerns of FMGs

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Apr 19 (GNS): National Conference on Wednesday asked the J & K administration to address the demands and concerns of foreign medical graduates (FMGs) and allow them to do internships in medical colleges across J&K.

Echoing the concerns of the protesting FMGs, party’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “As per the guidelines by NMC (National Medical Commission), students who have completed their MBBS degree from foreign medical universities are required to appear for the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) which allows them to practice medicine in India. Students who qualify for the exam are then required to undergo a mandatory medical internship.  Forty thousand such FMGs had appeared in the test out of which only three thousand had cleared it. However the total number of FMGs that qualified the mandatory screening test in J&K is 400, out of which only 230 have been inducted for the mandatory Internship. While the fate of remaining 170 aspirants who had also qualified the test has been put into a lurch. Most of these FMGs had also applied for internships in other states but they were denied the same on domicile issues.”

Imran further said, “Intern doctors played a pivotal role in the fight against COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir. Their work hours go beyond that of permanent faculty. They form an important part of the workforce in understaffed medical colleges and hospitals in rural areas and the distribution of doctors in J&K is already lopsided. The services of such Interns can be used to fulfil the shortage of staff in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare centers across J&K. Therefore, the government should increase the intake capacity of CRMI seats and refrain from any sort of discrimination.”

“I hope the concerned authorities will take cognizance of their plight and mitigate their sufferings on priority basis.” (GNS)

German president asks for forgiveness on Warsaw Ghetto Uprising anniversary

    [ad_1]

Germany’s president has asked for forgiveness for the crimes his country committed in the second world war, on the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the first German president to speak at the commemorations in Poland’s capital, joined his Polish and Israeli counterparts to mark 80 years since Jewish insurgents’ doomed uprising against Nazi occupiers.

“I stand before you today and ask for your forgiveness for the crimes committed by Germans here,” Steinmeier said.

The German president also berated the Russian president, Vladimir Putin for waging war against Ukraine.

“With his illegal attack on a peaceful, democratic neighbouring country … the Russian president has broken international law,” he said. “This war brings immeasurable suffering, violence, destruction and death to the people of Ukraine.”

The official ceremony took place at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, which stands at the site of several of the uprising’s armed clashes.

The Warsaw Jews launched their armed revolt against the Nazis on 19 April 1943, preferring to die fighting than to be sent to a death camp. It was the largest single act of Jewish resistance against the Germans during the war.

“We must remember,” the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, said. “Absolute evil existed in the form of the Nazis and their accomplices. And absolute good existed in the form of the victims and the rebels, from every nation.”

About 7,000 Jews are thought to have died in the battles and a further 6,000 in fires Nazi troops started in the ghetto.

“The revolt was suicide. We couldn’t win, but we had to do them harm,” survivor Halina Birenbaum, 93, said before the anniversary.

Earlier on Wednesday, church bells and sirens sounded across Warsaw as volunteers handed out paper daffodils for residents to pin to their jackets.

    skip past newsletter promotion

The tradition is in honour of Marek Edelman, a leader of the uprising who marked the anniversary by depositing a bouquet of daffodils, which resemble the yellow stars the Nazis forced Jews to wear, at the memorial until his death in 2009.

Paper daffodils are also being distributed in other Polish cities this year.

The Nazis set up the ghetto in a space of a little over three square kilometres (1.2 square miles) a year after their 1939 invasion of Poland. It was the largest of the second world war ghettos.

Many Jews died inside of starvation and disease, and most who survived were sent to the Treblinka death camp east of Warsaw.

At the outbreak of the uprising, about 50,000 civilians were hiding in cellars and bunkers in the ghetto. The Nazis put down the revolt with extreme brutality and set fire to the entire district, turning it to rubble and ash.

Rajnath asks Army to continue maintaining strong vigil along LAC

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday asked top Army commanders to maintain a strong vigil along the Line of Actual Control with China as the situation in the northern sector remained “tense” due to the deployment of PLA troops.

In his address at the Army Commanders’ Conference, Singh, referring to the eastern Ladakh border row, expressed full confidence in the Army to deal with any contingency while noting that the ongoing talks for peaceful resolution of the issue will continue.

He said disengagement and de-escalation is the “best way forward”, the defence ministry said.

    MS Education Academy

Singh said a “whole of the government” approach is being followed to ensure the availability of best weapons, equipment and clothing to the troops defending the country’s territorial integrity while braving extreme weather and hostile forces, according to the ministry.

The defence minister reaffirmed the faith of the billion-plus citizens in the Indian Army as one of the most trusted and inspiring organisations in the country.

“The situation is tense due to deployment of PLA troops in the northern sector. Our armed forces, especially the Indian Army, will have to continuously keep their vigilance in order to maintain the security of the LAC,” he said, according to sources.

The defence minister said the security of the country is the “topmost priority” for the government.

In a statement, the ministry said Singh complimented Border Roads Organisation, saying its efforts have led to the incomparable improvement of road communication in the border areas.

The five-day Army Commanders’ Conference began on Monday. It is deliberating on India’s national security challenges along the borders with China and Pakistan and ways to boost combat capability of the force.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari also addressed the commanders.

Talking about the global geopolitical scenario, Singh said, “Unconventional and asymmetric warfare, including hybrid war will be part of the future conventional wars.”

“Cyber, information, communication, trade and finance have all become an inseparable part of future conflicts. This necessitates that Armed Forces will have to keep all these facets in consideration while planning and formulating strategies,” he said.

On the situation along the Western borders, he complimented the Army’s response to cross-border terrorism, adding the proxy war by the adversary continues.

“I compliment the excellent synergy between the Central Armed Police Forces/Police forces and the Army in tackling the menace of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“The synergised operations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are contributing to increased stability and peace in the region and the same should continue, and for this I again compliment the Indian Army,” Singh said.

The defence minister commended the Army for the high standard of operational preparedness and capabilities which he said he has always been experiencing first hand during his visits to forward areas.

“In the North-Eastern states too, there has been a lot of improvement in the internal security scenario following operations carried out by the Indian Army,” Singh said.

The defence minister said there is a need to ensure the use of real-time intelligence more effectively so that “we can be fully prepared to face any such future challenges.”

The defence minister lauded the Army’s efforts to develop niche technologies in collaboration with civil industries.

He also stressed that as users the armed forces must put their faith in the Indian industries and technologies. The defence minister also complimented the Army for the execution of the ‘Agniveer’ scheme.

He also reviewed an equipment display focusing on niche technology, innovation, solutions for surveillance, artificial intelligence, training, robotics, virtual reality, operational logistics etc.

The defence minister released the second edition of Indian Army UN Journal titled ‘Blue Helmet Odyssey–Changing Contours of Peacekeeping Operations in the 20th Century’.

Jaishankar asks Siddaramaiah not to politicise tribals’ evacuation from Sudan

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday expressed displeasure at Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, asking him not to politicise the incident of evacuation of 31 tribals from the state, who are stuck in violence-hit Sudan.

Replying to a series of tweets earlier in the day by the Congress leader, who blamed the central government for not doing enough to ensure the safe return of the tribals stuck in the African nation, Jaishankar said that he was “appalled” at his response.

“Simply appalled at your tweet! There are lives at stake; don’t do politics. Since the fighting started on April 14th, the Embassy of India in Khartoum has been continuously in touch with most Indian nationals and PIOs in Sudan,” the External Affairs Minister tweeted while tagging Siddaramaiah’s earlier comments on Twitter.

    MS Education Academy

“Plans regarding them have to take into account a very complicated security scenario. The Embassy is in constant touch with the Ministry in that regard. It is grossly irresponsible of you to politicise their situation. No electoral goal justifies endangering Indians abroad,” Jaishankar tweeted further, adding that “Their (tribals’) details and locations cannot be made public for security reasons. Their movement is constrained by fierce fighting that is ongoing.”

Incidentally, the social media slugfest between the two leaders took place at a time when political temperatures in Karnataka are on the rise, with assembly elections scheduled to take place there on May 10.

Congress leader Siddaramaiah had earlier appealed to the Centre, seeking safe return of a group of 31 tribals from the state, who are stranded in violence-hit Sudan.

“It is reported that 31 people from the state belonging to Hakki Pikki tribe are stranded in Sudan which is troubled by civil war,” Siddaramaiah had said in a series of tweets.

“I urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Ministry, Ministry of External Affairs and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to immediately intervene and ensure their safe return,” Siddaramaiah said.

“Hakki Pikki in Sudan are left stranded without food since the last few days and the government is yet to initiate action to bring them back. BJP government should open diplomatic discussions and reach out to international agencies to ensure the well-being of Hakki-Pikkis,” he had posted.

“It is also unfortunate to know that we have lost one Indian and 60 others in the ongoing civil war in Sudan. My deepest condolences to their families and pray for the peace in the region,” Siddaramaiah’s tweet read.

The tribals from the state had gone to Sudan for business.

  • ‘Does KCR have moral right to speak on Vishakhapatnam steel plant?’ asks Kishan Reddy

‘Does KCR have moral right to speak on Vishakhapatnam steel plant?’ asks Kishan Reddy

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Culture, Tourism And Development Of North Eastern Region, G Kishan Reddy questioned whether Telangana Chief Minister K has any moral right to speak about the Vishakhapatnam steel plant privatisation issue.

While addressing the press conference on Sunday, G Kishan Reddy said, “KCR and his family have been talking a lot about the Vishakhapatnam steel plant in the past week. Singareni collaries are in loss. It is not getting funds from the Telangana government. When PM Modi came to Hyderabad to inaugurate development works in Telangana, the Kalvakuntla family and BRS party organised protests saying that Singareni is being privatised. On one side they are staging protests about privatisation and on another side, they say that they will buy the Vishakhapatnam steel plant”.

“As many industries in Telangana were shut down, the BRS party in its manifesto has promised that in 100 days they will open Nizam sugar factory. Now it has been 9 years, but not a single step has been taken by KCR in this direction. Does KCR have the moral right to speak about the Vishakhapatnam steel plant?” he said.

    MS Education Academy

He further stated the Telangana Government led by KCR has just one aim which is to criticize the central government from morning to evening.

“They have made their main aim to criticise the central government. Telangana people elected KCR for good governance and to fulfil the dreams of the Telangana people. However today, he has left Telangana to the air and the Chief Minister and his family in the name of BRS have made their main agenda to criticise the central government from morning to evening,” he said.

G Kishan Reddy also mentioned that the Telangana government has failed to deliver on the promises they had made in their manifesto during elections over the opening of industries in the state.

“The state government will set up a steel plant in Bayyaram even if the centre does not cooperate. The people are asking today, after 4 years, why are they not setting up the steel plant in Bayyaram? They said they will open many industries that were shut down, but did they open a single factory till today? KCR should answer this. The BRS manifesto also said that it will set up a revolving fund to open the small industries that were shut down. But to date, the revolving fund is still revolving in the air. As many industries belonging to the SC community are in trouble, there is around Rs.837 crores to be given. Many subsidies in the state for SC, ST, and others are not being given. Kalvakuntla family is now stating all other things to divert the people of Telangana from their failures” he said.

He also mentioned that CM KCR has no respect for the Indian constitution.

After 9 years, he (KCR) woke up and came out of his house on Ambedkar Jayanti. On Ambedkar Jayanti, all CMs would come to Tankbund and honour Ambedkar every year. But after becoming Chief Minister, KCR never came to the Ambedkar statue near Tankbund. KCR does not have any respect towards Ambedkar. He even said that the constitution written by Ambedkar is not relevant today and a new constitution should be written. He thinks that the Kalvakuntla constitution or the Nizam constitution should come.

There is a culture that on behalf of the Telangana people, Talambralu are given to the Bhadrachalam temple for Sri Rama Navami. But the Chief Minister today does not follow this culture. KCR hurts the sentiment of all the people. He even hurt the sentiments of Dalit people. He also said that he will make a Dalit as Chief Minister, give 3 acres of land to Dalits and also give Dalit Bandhu. The Dalit bandhu has become BRS Bandhu today. You (KCR) go for iftar parties, it is your wish but you do not come to Bhadrachalam,” he added.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy also pointed out that in the Indian constitution, there is nowhere it has been mentioned that a Chief Minister and their family cannot be questioned by law enforcement agencies or the judiciary over scam allegations.

He further said, “Today in Delhi, Kejriwal is asking how can a Chief Minister been given notice. Ambedkar has given equal rights to everyone in the Indian Constitution. He did not give one right to Chief Minister for scams and another right to the common people. Whether Chief Minister or anyone else, it is the responsibility of the state police, High court, Supreme court, CBI and ED to enquire when there are allegations.

“The CM’s family should answer if there is anywhere in the Constitution that enquiry should not be done on the Chief Minister or Chief Minister’s family when there are allegations. Here also BRS party has set up a national party today to loot the country as it is not enough for them to loot Telangana. Union Government is not afraid of any of these atrocities,” he added.

RDX used in Pulwama sent from Nagpur, why no probe done yet, asks Congress

    [ad_1]

Nagpur: Making a sensational allegation, Congress’ Maharashtra President Nana Patole on Sunday said that the RDX used in the 2019 Pulwama terror strike was sent from Nagpur.

“I want to inform you all… The 300 kgs used in that terror strike was despatched from Nagpur. Who sent it, from where was it sent?” he asked.

Addressing a massive rally of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Patole said that even a CBI inquiry was also ordered into the matter, but almost four years later, there has been no outcome of its investigations.

    MS Education Academy

Patole’s statement came with reference to the recent revelations made by former Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Satya Pal Malik that has created a huge political row.

At the rally, Shiv Sena-UBT President and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray slammed the government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis for duping the people of the state and diverting attention from the real issues confronting the masses.

“They are accusing me of discarding Hindutva… What is their brand of Hindutva, assaulting a woman and then threatening her with arrest, not lodging her police complaint,” said Thackeray.

He was recalling the attack on party activist Sonali Pawar-Shinde in Thane on April 3, followed by a huge protest march taken out by the MVA to the city Police Commissionerate the next day.

Attacking Bharatiya Janata Party Minister Chandrakant Patil for his remarks that “no Shiv Sainiks were present during the demolition of the Babri Mosque”, Thackeray hit back: “If there were no Shiv Sainiks, then was it your uncle (there)?”

Several AMVA top leaders like NCP state President Jayant Patil, senior leader Anil Deshmukh and others also gave fiery speeches at the second ‘Vajramooth Rally’ in the series of public meetings planned over the next couple of months.

  • Farooq asks govt to reconsider shifting of DIET, NCERT offices

    [ad_1]

Writes to LG, seeks his personal Intervention

Srinagar, Apr 15 (GNS): National Conference President and Member of the Parliament from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah wrote a letter to LG Manoj Sinha, impressing upon him to reconsider the government decision of shifting DIET and J&K NCERT offices to Government Boys High School premises, Sonwar Srinagar.

Consequent to meeting a delegation of aggrieved locals led by the In Charge Constituency, Lal Chowk Ahsan Pardesi, Dr. Farooq Abdullah wrote to the LG Sinha, asking him to reconsider the decision in view of the searing resentment from the locals.

“The delegation of locals from Indiranagar, Sonwar and Batwara met me yesterday at our Party Headquarters in Srinagar. It was brought to my notice that the offices of DIET and J&K SCERT are being shifted by the Education Department to the Government Boys High School premises, Sonwar Srinagar. It was stated that shifting of the said offices will not only hamper the academic as well as extracurricular activities of the students there, but is also going to affect the upgradation of the school to the Higher Secondary level,” the letter reads.

He further noted, “In addition to the above, the main cause of resentment by the locals against this decision of the government seems their apprehension that the ground of the said school, which is being used as a play field by the youth of the area since last fifty years, will not be available to them anymore for sports activities.”

Seeking immediate intervention of the LG into the issue, he said that the decision if implemented will have a negative impact on the overall psyche of the youngsters.(GNS)

IPL 2023: ‘… Should have been an easy chase’, Warner asks DC batters to do better

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: After a 23-run loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL 2023 match, the Delhi Capitals skipper said that the target of 175 runs should have been an easy chase for them but they lost wickets at the top, asking his batters to do better in the upcoming matches.

Virat Kohli sparkled with the bat with a breezy 50 off 34 balls to help RCB post a competitive 174/6. Vijaykumar Vyshak then impressed on debut with a brilliant spell of 3-20 and along with Mohammed Siraj 2-23 helped RCB restrict DC to 151/9 in 20 overs at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, here on Saturday.

“I said at the toss we needed to do all disciplines well, but we lost three early wickets and we didn’t chase down what should have been an easy chase. They (RCB) came out and started well with the ball, Siraj was outstanding,” said Warner at the post-match presentation.

    MS Education Academy

The skipper was pleased with the bowling and fielding efforts of the team.

“The positives were good — bowling and fielding was exceptional, the energy we showed was great too,” he said.

It was the fifth consecutive loss for Delhi Capitals and they are yet to open their account in the ongoing season, lying at the bottom of the table. However, Warner feels the team can still bounce back as others have done in the past.

“Have to go back, we have five days off, have a hard look at ourselves, we need to do better with the bat and build partnerships at the top of the order. It is a matter of starting well with the bat. Teams have come back well from this position before and we can go on and do better,” the DC captain said.

On the other hand, it was the second win for RCB in four matches and they are in the seventh spot in the table. RCB captain Faf Du Plessis said that the win was important to get the confidence back in the group, especially for the bowlers.

“We needed that (win) to get the confidence back in the group. Especially the bowling group. Unfortunately, we’ve had to defend for a few games in a row now, and it’s not always easy at the Chinnaswamy. So very proud of them tonight,” said Du Plessis.

The skipper also felt that 175 was a good total as it was a day game and hailed his pacers.

“It’s the first day game of the season. Also the new rule now — you always feel you need more. 175 in a day game here is a good score. But with the new rule, there’s some uncertainty. It proved to be the right score. But the way we bowled in the first six overs, not only today – in all the games,” he said.

“Siraj set the tone beautifully. Generally, the first six overs are most important with the bat. You want to play positively and get ahead of the rate. The way we bowled was just unbelievable. Huge credit to our seamers in the first six,” he added.

Hanuman Beniwal asks Sachin Pilot to form new party, offers alliance

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief Hanuman Beniwal on Tuesday asked Congress leader Sachin Pilot to form a new party and forge an alliance with him for the assembly polls due later this year.

Beniwal said he is open to form alliance with any party against the Congress and the BJP.

On Tuesday, Pilot opened a new front against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot by sitting on a day-long fast against the Rajasthan government ‘inaction’ in cases of alleged corruption filed during the previous BJP rule. The Congress state unit had warned Pilot that the fast would be considered “anti-party activity” but he went ahead with it anyway.

    MS Education Academy

Pilot and Gehlot have been at loggerheads since the Congress formed government in the state in December 2018.

“I have suggested earlier also that if Sachin Pilot forms his party, then RLP is ready for alliance for the elections,” Beniwal told reporters.

“I can only give suggestions. If he forms the party, we will do an alliance. If he does not make his party, then it is his wish. Our doors are open for alliance with any party against Congress and BJP,” the Nagaur MP said.

A Jat leader, Beniwal said in the last assembly election, 80 lakh votes out of the 4 crore were against Congress and BJP, and this number can go up to 2 crore if all anti-Congress and anti-BJP parties come together in the state.

Beniwal contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in alliance with BJP on Nagaur seat and won it.

In December 2020, he announced his split from NDA over the new farm laws and supported the farmers movement. His party has three MLAs in the House of 200.
