Swedish national arrested in Mumbai for molesting IndiGo cabin crew

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: A Sweden national was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly molesting a cabin crew member onboard an IndiGo flight from Bangkok, officials said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as, Klas Erik Harald Jonasm, 63, police said.

The Swedish national was handed over to Mumbai police by the airline staff when the flight landed at Mumbai Airport on Thursday, officials said.

The accused was arrested on Thursday after a complaint by IndiGo Airlines and was produced in the Andheri court on Friday and granted bail the same day, officials said.

A chargesheet was filed by the police, in Andheri court on Friday.

Police said they have started further investigations into the case.

This is the 8th unruly airline passenger arrested in India in the past three months, according to officials.

On March 23, Mumbai’s Sahar Police booked two IndiGo flyers travelling from Dubai to Mumbai for allegedly being drunk and misbehaving with the crew, police said earlier in the month.

The arrested passengers were identified as Dattatreya Bapardekar and John George D’Souza.

“Two Indigo flyers have been booked under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & sections 21,22 and 25 of Aircraft rules for being drunk & misbehaving with the crew. Both were arrested formally but as the sections were bailable, they were granted bail from the police station itself”, DCP Dixit Gedam, Mumbai Police told ANI earlier in the month.

According to the police, the incident occurred on March 22. It is alleged that passengers John George D’Souza and Dattatreya Anand Bapardekar started drinking after the flight took off from Dubai on an Indigo flight from Dubai to Mumbai. When the cabin crew found this, they informed them about the ban on drinking alcohol inside the flight. But both the accused got infuriated and stood up from their seat and started walking inside the flight drunk.

Man caught on CCTV throwing ‘black magic’ bundle inside Azam Khan’s house; arrested

    [ad_1]

Rampur: SP leader Azam Khan’s wife has lodged a police complaint against an unidentified man alleging that he threw a small bundle inside the main gate of her house containing random articles, including clothes, and expressed fear that it may be associated with “black magic”.

Police said they have arrested the man who is mentally challenged and also suspended four of its personnel — deployed outside Khan’s house — for dereliction of duty.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Shukla said, “A mentally challenged person was responsible for throwing a bundle inside the house of Azam Khan. He has been arrested and efforts are being made to send him to a mental institution.”

“Four police personnel deployed in the security at the house of Azam Khan were suspended for dereliction of duty,” added the SP.

According to the complaint filed by Tazeen Fatma, a former MP, the incident happened around 6 am on Thursday.

The man throwing the bundle inside was captured on CCTV installed outside the house but could not be recognised immediately.

Fatma wrote a letter to the Rampur superintendent of police reporting the incident and expressed fear that it could be a part of a big conspiracy.

In her letter, Fatma also wondered how could such a breach take place when the house is guarded round the clock by state police and other security personnel.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sansar Singh said they were informed late Thursday that a bundle, wrapped in black foil, had been thrown inside Khan’s residence and it contained some clothes, a cap, and a few other articles.

Khan has been an MP from Rampur parliamentary constituency and MLA from Rampur assembly constituency 10 times. His assembly membership ended after a local court sentenced him in a hate speech case.

He also has several criminal cases registered against him and was released from jail after getting bail last year.

  • Mumbai: 21 arrested over stone pelting at Ram Navami procession in Malvanib

Mumbai: 21 arrested over stone pelting at Ram Navami procession in Malvanib

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: As many as 21 persons have been arrested so far in connection with the stone pelting at a Ram Navami procession in suburban Malad (West), police said on Friday.

The tensions on Thursday night began following disputes over the loud DJ music being played in the procession as it was passing through the vicinity of mosques in Malvani area, a police official said.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against nearly 300 identified and unidentified persons at the Malvani police station, he said.

As per the FIR, more than 6,000 persons had participated in the Ram Navami procession organised by the Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu organizations.

The procession began from Ram Janki temple late in the afternoon.

Around 7.25 pm, as it was moving towards Jama Masjid, around 100 to 150 people objected to the high volume of music as namaz was going on in the mosque, said a local police official.

As the volume of music was not lowered, there was some slogan-shouting and one of the men who had objected to loud music allegedly hurled a stone at the procession and it hit a participant, he added.

Police personnel deputed for security along the route immediately took the man who had thrown the stone into custody, he said.

As per the FIR, when the procession was near the Ali Hazrat mosque around 8.45 pm, a mob of 200 to 250 persons began to pelt stones.

As police tried to bring the situation under control, some people in the mob hurled stones at them and manhandled some police personnel, the FIR said.

Earlier, police had said that there was a “clash” between the procession participants and the other group, but the FIR did not mention it.

Additional police force was called in and police used “mild force” to disperse people from both sides, said a senior official.

Members of right-wing organisations gathered outside Malvani police station late at night demanding action against those who pelted stones.

Senior police officers and local politicians reached the spot and the situation was brought under control, the official added.

The FIR was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 145 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting ) and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act.

“The miscreants who tried to create tension during the procession are being identified with the help of drone and CCTV footage and action is being taken against them,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Bansal told reporters.

More arrests are likely, he added.

A large number of police personnel were deployed in the area and the situation was under control, Bansal said, while appealing people to maintain peace and not to believe rumours.

  • Aurangabad violence: 1 dead, 7 arrested; SRPF deployed in city

Aurangabad violence: 1 dead, 7 arrested; SRPF deployed in city

    [ad_1]

Aurangabad: As many as seven persons have been arrested following a mob attack on a police station in central Maharashtra’s Aurangabad city while an injured man died in hospital, police said on Friday.

Normalcy returned to the city, recently renamed as `Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’, even as the government deployed five companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) as a precaution.

At least 12 persons including 10 policemen were injured after a mob of around 500 people hurled stones and petrol-filled bottles when the cops tried to control the situation following a clash between two groups near the Ram temple in Kiradpura locality of Aurangabad, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

The police used tear gas and fired some plastic bullets as well as live rounds to control the mob.

Barkat Shaikh (23), Shaikh Atik (24), Saddam Shah (33), Shaikh Khaja (25), Sharik Khan (23), Syed Noor (27), all local residents, and Shaikh Saleem (25) from Buldhana district were arrested for alleged rioting, said an official of Jinsi police station where a case has been registered.

Shaikh Muniruddin (51), who had suffered injuries during the violence, died at a hospital on Thursday night, officials said, without specifying how he came to be injured.

“Security at various sensitive locations in the city has been increased. The administration has deployed five companies of SRPF and nearly 600 police personnel are on guard to maintain peace,” an official said.

Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly Ajit Pawar said political parties, civil society and citizens must work towards ensuring peace in Aurangabad.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader said police are doing their work but everyone, including political parties, those in power or Opposition, civil society and common citizens should work towards ensuring peace.

Asked about the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s joint rally in Aurangabad on April 2, he said it had been planned much earlier, and leaders of the MVA constituents NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) — are working on it.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut alleged that violence in Aurangabad and elsewhere on Ram Navami was “government-sponsored”, and the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government wanted to use the tensions as a pretext to disallow the MVA rally on April 2.

Fellow Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve contested Aurangabad MP Imtiaz Jaleel’s claim that some drug addicts were responsible for the violence.

“Drug addicts can not carry out such violence…..How can 400-500 people be drug addicts? I had got information and I had spoken about it with the commissioner multiple times. It was ignored by administration,” he claimed.

Danve also claimed that the agitation against the renaming of Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and the counter-agitation supporting the renaming led to this situation. Had the agitation against the renaming not taken place, this situation would have been averted, he added.

  • 3 arrested for causing violence at Khalistan event in Australia

3 arrested for causing violence at Khalistan event in Australia

    [ad_1]

Melbourne: Three men were arrested in relation to an alleged violence that broke out late in January when pro-Khalistani supporters clashed with Indians at Federation Square in Melbourne, Victoria Police said.

Police didn’t specify whether the three were among the Khalistani backers, who incited violence during a referendum called by the banned Sikhs For Justice for the creation of an independent Sikh state.

The three include, a 23-year-old man from Kalkallo, who has been charged with affray, unlawful assault, and a 39 and a 36-year-old from Strathtulloh and Craigieburn, both charged with affray and violent disorder.

All those charged have been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on August 8.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are making enquiries to identify and apprehend any further alleged offenders from the day, the Victoria Police said in a statement.

The police, which used pepper spray to quell the protests had earlier arrested two men, aged 34 and 39, and issued a penalty notice for their riotous behaviour.

Police said they were in attendance at a Khalistan Referendum event at Federation Square on January 29, when fights broke out — one at about 12.45 p.m. and the other around 4.30 p.m.

It’s alleged flag poles were used by several men as weapons which caused physical injuries to multiple victims.

An Indian Tricolour was also burnt by a group of men at the event.

Two victims, one with a hand laceration to their head and another with a hand injury, were treated at the scene by paramedics. Several other victims sustained injuries and required medical treatment.

In both alleged incidents, police said they quickly responded to separate and disperse the crowd.

Continuing its massive crackdown against the Khalistanis, Victoria’s police had earlier released images of six men, believed to have been involved in the late January violence.
