A Democrat who chaired the House Armed Services Committee for four years was nowhere near as fatalistic.
βAnything is possible. Iβm really worried when anyone starts talking about war with China being inevitable,β Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) said, also on βFox News Sunday.β
War with China is βhighly unlikely,β and βgenerals need to be very cautious about saying weβre going to war,β he added.
Pushed by host Shannon Bream, McCaul cited Chinaβs interest in possibly invading the island nation of Taiwan β which it considers part of its territory β as a catalyst for war, and he accused President Joe Bidenβs administration of βprojecting weakness.β
But Smith and McCaul agreed that the United Statesβ military supplies are insufficient in the face of possible conflict, in China or elsewhere.
βThis is a huge problem,β Smith said. βWe donβt have the industrial base, and we donβt have the ability to ramp up that industrial base.β
