YSRCP MP raises doubts over CBI probe into Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party Lok Sabha member from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh Y S Avinash Reddy on Friday raised doubts over the ongoing investigations by the CBI into the murder of former state Minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy in 2019.

Avinash Reddy, who appeared before the CBI officials here in connection with the ongoing probe, claimed that the investigation is going on in a way of “targetting a person” rather than with the objective of ascertaining the truth.

“This has been going on like targetting the person rather than aiming to find out the facts. This investigation has been going on targetting the person rather than in the direction of finding out the truth. It is not correct. There are many facts. Anybody will get doubts about the way this investigation is being conducted,” the MP told reporters after appearing before the CBI.

Avinash Reddy further said he submitted a representation to the CBI IO on the “facts” he knew and sought a comprehensive investigation on those as well.

After being issued summons by the CBI, this is the second time that Avinash Reddy is appearing before the central agency, which is probing Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case.

Avinash Reddy, who is related to Vivekananda Reddy, had earlier appeared before CBI in January.

The MP said he was called by the CBI through a notice under Section 160 CrPC (police officer’s power to require attendance of witnesses).

“Whatever the CBI IO (Investigating Officer) questioned, I gave answers to the best of my memory and to the best of my knoweldge. I stand by what I had spoken to media on the day after the death of Vivekananda Reddy,” Avinash Reddy said.

Avinash, a cousin of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, said the media should act in a responsible manner over its reporting on the case.

Vivekananda Reddy was the brother of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of incumbent AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

He was found murdered at his residence in Pulivendula, the constituency now represented by his nephew, on the night of March 15, 2019, weeks before the state Assembly elections.

Asked on the CBI counter affidavit filed in the High Court opposing the bail of one of the accused in the murder case, Avinash Reddy said he was also asked on that and he gave replies as per his knowledge.

The case was initially probed by a special investigation team (SIT) of the state crime investigation department, but was handed over to the CBI in July 2020.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet in the murder case on October 26, 2021 and followed it up with a supplementary charge sheet on January 31, 2022.

The CBI affidavit had said “Investigation further revealed that YS Avinash Reddy along with other persons, after entering in the house of Vivekananda Reddy and seeing blood in the bedroom and body lying in pool of blood in the bathroom, conveyed to a local political leader that Vivekananda Reddy died due to heart attack.”

Y S Avinash Reddy also informed police that Vivekananda Reddy died due to heart attack and heavy blood vomiting, “as if the death had occurred due to natural causes”, the affidavit said.

“It indicates that he deliberately intended to conceal the design of murder of Vivekananda Reddy. It also indicates that as a part of conspiracy of fake story of heart attack and blood vomiting was floated in a pre-meditated manner to give it a colour of natural death,” the affidavit said.

AP: YSRCP govt denounces opposition claim of poor state financials

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday took strong exception to the alleged misinformation campaign undertaken by the opposition and its associated media regarding the financial health of the state.

Duvvuri Krishna, Special Secretary to CM (Finance and Economic Affairs), shared details of the recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) report containing details of outstanding liabilities of the state over the last four-year period.

Highlighting how the state exchequer was burdened in 2019, Duvvuri Krishna stated, “Just days before the 2019 general election to the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government hurriedly disbursed scheme related amounts to lure voters. In this regard, the TDP government raised a whopping ₹5,000 crores through SDL auction on a single day on 9th April, 2019, just two days before election. This would possibly be the highest amount of debt any state government would have raised on a single day.”

Sharing bits from the RBI report, Krishna shared that it was a herculean task for the YSRCP government to improve the health of the state’s finances.

“The outstanding liabilities had increased by 138.84% during the 5-year TDP rule. This translates to a compounded annual growth rate of the liabilities of 19.02% during 2014-19. As against that, the increase in liabilities during the period of the YSRCP Government increased by only 62.78% during the 4-year period of YSRCP government. This translates to a compounded annual growth rate of the liabilities of 13.55% during 2014-19,” Krishna said.

Referring to the RBI report, Krishna said, “In 2014, liabilities of the TDP Government was ₹1,13,797 crores as per the RBI report which increased ₹2,71,797.56 crores in 2019. This is an increase of 238%. Compared to this, the debt of the YSRCP government has not doubled during the first 4 years of the present government, as alleged. It has only increased by 62.78%.”

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Gearing up for next year’s Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) will undertake a ‘Jagan anna is our future’ campaign across the state next month.

Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday asked 5.6 lakh party secretariat convenors and ‘Gruha Saradhulu’ (household heads) to vigorously run the campaign from March 18 to 26.

At an extended party meeting attended by MLAs, ministers, coordinators, regional coordinators and district unit presidents here on Monday, the Chief Minister told them that the party cadres should visit 1.65 crore households during the campaign, visiting door-to-door, spending time with the families and explain the slew of welfare programmes being implemented by the state government.

They should explain to the people how the government is providing a transparent administration and taking the state forward with development compared to the TDP rule, he said.

Party secretariat convenors should coordinate the five lakh ‘Gruha Saradhulu’ who have already been appointed and the remaining would be appointed by February 16, he said, adding that training has been completed for the first batch of party convenors and ‘Gruha Saradhulu’ in 387 mandals while the training for the second batch will be held from February 14 to 19.

He asked the MLAs to participate in the training camps and motivate the party convenors and ‘Gruha Saradhulu’ and take up party programmes at the field level when the training is completed.

Also reviewing the mass contact programme, ‘Gadapa Gadapaku’, he stressed that it is very important and party leaders should complete it in the stipulated time by meeting people and explaining them about the welfare and development programmes being implemented by the government.

Reddy said the party cadres should go ahead with the programme explaining to the people about the false propaganda of the pro-TDP media which is trying to hoodwink the people and denigrate the image of the government for political gains.

The Chief Minister was informed that the MLAs so far completed the ‘Gadapa Gadapaku’ programme in about 7,447 secretariats visiting six secretariats in a month on an average.

He asked the district party presidents, MLAs and constituency observers to work in unison and bring victory to the party candidates in the forthcoming MLC elections being held for graduates and teachers constituencies.

Rebel MLA of YSRCP complains to Centre over phone tapping

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Rebel MLA of Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), Kotam Sridhar Reddy has complained to the Union Home Ministry about phone tapping.

The MLA from Nellore Rural constituency, who raised a banner of revolt against the party with the allegation of phone tapping, said on Wednesday that he has written a letter to the Union Home Ministry, seeking a probe.

He said after getting an appointment, he would visit Delhi and personally meet home ministry officials to submit the details.

Sridhar Reddy said ever since he stated that his phone was being tapped, ministers and YSRCP leaders started criticising him. He alleged that he was receiving threatening calls.

Alleging that false cases were being booked against him, the MLA said he was not afraid of cases and was determined to continue his fight without bothering about the consequences.

The MLA reiterated that his phone tapping started after he raised people’s issues and spoke about roads, drinking water and other civic problems in his constituency.

He had earlier stated that phone tapping was not possible without orders from the chief minister.

He claimed that four months ago an Indian Police Service (IPS) official had told him that his phone was being tapped but he did not believe this as he was not indulging in any illegal business or anti-party activity. He said he later found evidence of his phone being tapped.

Sridhar Reddy also made it clear that he would not stay in the party where he was looked with suspicion.

YSRCP leaders have dismissed the allegation of Sridhar Reddy and claimed that he was trying to join Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Amaravati: Nellore rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, who has raised the banner of revolt against the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), alleged on Sunday that though he has been receiving threatening phone calls, the government has scaled down his security.

The MLA, who created a sensation recently by alleging that his phones were being tapped, said his security was scaled with orders from the top.

Sridhar Reddy said the government had given him four gunmen (security guards) and on Saturday it issued orders to take back two of them.

He said the gunmen were taken back to mentally harass him. He said ever since he spoke about phone tapping he had been receiving threatening phone calls.

“In this situation, I need additional security but even the existing security was withdrawn. This would not have been done without orders from the top,” he said

“The government took back two gunmen but I am surrendering the remaining two as a gift to it. I am not afraid of anybody. I will go around alone,” he said.

Sridhar Reddy said he was not afraid of threats or false cases being booked against him.

The police had Saturday booked Sridhar Reddy and two others with the alleged kidnapping of a ruling YSRC corporator and attempting to compel him into resigning from the party.

A case was registered against them for trespassing into the home and kidnapping M. Vijayabhaskar Reddy, a corporator of Nellore city, with criminal intent.

The ruling party corporator, in his complaint, said Kotamreddy tried to persuade him to leave YSRCP and join him. When he refused, the corporator alleged, one of the MLA’s followers, along with driver Ankaiah, intimidated and abducted him from the Padarupalli area on Friday between 2.30 p.m. and 3 p.m. and took him to the MLA. The corporator stated that he, however, managed to flee and filed a case against the MLA at Vedayapalem police station.

However, Sridhar Reddy clarified that he went to corporator Vijayabhaskar’s house to talk to him. For that, a kidnapping case has been filed against him.

On Saturday, an audio tape of a phone call between Sridhar Reddy and one Borugadda Anil went viral on social media. In the audio, Anil warns the MLA to be careful in his public speeches regarding the YSRCP chief. Anil is heard threatening the MLA that he (Sridhar Reddy) and his brother would be chained to a vehicle and dragged through the streets of Nellore if they continue to criticise Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSRCP party leaders.

YSRCP to move private member’s bill in Parliament seeking special status for AP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) will move a private member’s bill in the current session of Parliament seeking the special category state status to Andhra Pradesh.

The bill seeking to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 was listed for introduction in the Lok Sabha on Friday but it could not be taken up due to the adjournment of the House.

“Our long-pending demand for special category status has not been met by the government. There was no option but to bring a private member’s bill,” Lok Sabha MP from Anantapur constituency Talari Rangaiah told reporters here.

The party members and the chief minister have raised this issue several times within and outside Parliament in the past few years, but unfortunately the central government has not fulfilled its promise made during the state’s bifurcation, he said.

With this private member’s bill, the YSRCP wants to raise awareness about the issue which is important for the economic development of Andhra Pradesh, Rangaiah said and expressed confidence of getting support from the Opposition parties.

N Reddeppa, the Lok Sabha MP from Chittoor, said the party has also demanded setting up of a railway zone in Vishakapatnam, Rs 5,000 crore allocation for AIIMS in Amaravati and budgetary allocation for inter-linking of rivers project.

The party will continue to fight until the demands are fulfilled, he added.

Subhash Chandra Bose Alluri, the MP from Narsapuram, said funds are required for the development of the state. A special category status will help Andhra Pradesh attract more investments and revive its economy.

In 2014, Andhra Pradesh was promised special category status by the Congress government at the Centre during the state’s bifurcation and by the BJP during the course of its 2014 election campaign.

Manmohan Singh, who was then prime minister, had assured in the the Rajya Sabha that a special status would be extended to Andhra Pradesh for five years. This oral submission has been the basis for Andhra Pradesh’s claim to the status.

However, the granting of special category status was restricted by the 14th Finance Commission which did away with the distinction between general and special category states.

YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy appears before CBI in murder case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party Lok Sabha MP from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh Avinash Reddy on Saturday appeared before the CBI officials here in connection with the murder of Vivekananda Reddy, younger brother of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in 2019.

The probe agency had earlier summoned him on January 24 but the MP sought more time, following which the CBI has given him a new date of January 28.

Sources said he was called as witness in the case.

Avinash is cousin of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet in the murder case on October 26, 2021 and followed it up with a supplementary charge sheet on January 31, 2022.

Vivekananda Reddy was the brother of Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was found murdered at his residence in Pulivendula, the constituency now represented by his nephew, on the night of March 15, 2019, weeks before the State assembly elections.

The Supreme Court in November transferred the high-profile murder trial of Vivekananda Reddy to a special court in Telangana, after taking note of allegations by the deceased’s widow and daughter about influential people attempting to scuttle the trial in his home State.
