  • India To Reclaim Pak-Administered Kashmir In Next 2-3 Yrs: Kamal Gupta

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Addressing an event organized by traders in Haryana’s Rohtak, Haryana Cabinet Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kamal Gupta claimed that, “We paved the way for the construction of Ram Mandir. We abrogated Article 370. Today there are protests taking place in Pakistan-administered Kashmir’s Muzaffarabad and other places wanting integration with India.”

He further said “we were not strong before 2014, but now we have become strong. Pakistan has occupied our territory in PAK. At any moment in the next two-three years, Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir will become a part of India and this will be done under PM Modi only.”

Gupta also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra stating that only BJP can make India ‘Vishwa Guru’. “Those talking about uniting India are the very same people who broke the country. If anyone can make India a Vishwa Guru, it is the BJP,” he said.

Congress questions absence of Deputy LS Speaker for past 4 yrs

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday questioned the non-appointment of a Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha, terming it “unconstitutional”.

“For the last 4 years there has been no Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha. This is unconstitutional. What a far cry from March 1956 when Nehru proposed the name of Sardar Hukam Singh an Opposition Akali Dal MP & a critic of Nehru for the post & he was unanimously elected”, he said in a tweet.

In the Lok Sabha, there has been a precedent of appointing a opposition MP as Deputy Speaker but in the current house, the post has been vacant since its constitution.

In the first Narendra Modi government, AIADMK’s M. Thambidurai was the Deputy Speaker while in the UPA regime, the post was held Akali Dal’s Charanjit Singh Atwal and then BJP’s Kariya Munda.

Israeli shekel’s value declines to lowest record against USD in 3 yrs

    [ad_1]

Jerusalem: The value of Israel’s currency shekel has fell to its lowest record against the US dollar in nearly three years, according to exchange rates issued by Israel’s central bank.

The shekel’s exchange rate against the dollar was set at 3.649 shekels per dollar, compared to the rate of 3.658 recorded on March 24, 2020.

On January 25, 2023, the exchange rate was set at 3.37 shekels per dollar. Since then, the shekel has been devalued by 7.6 per cent in less than a month, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The shekel’s devaluation is probably related to the approval of the first part of the juridical reform in the Israeli parliament on Monday night,” Sonia Gorodeisky, chief financial editor at Israel Hayom daily newspaper, told Xinhua.

“The reform and the political uncertainty surrounding it cloud the general sentiment in the market which prefers certainty and broad consensus,” she added.

Another reason for the strengthening of the dollar is the expectation of continued interest rate hikes in the US to levels of 5.25 to 5.5 per cent, said Gorodeisky.

  • Minorities panel received maximum complaints from Muslims in last 5 yrs from UP

Minorities panel received maximum complaints from Muslims in last 5 yrs from UP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: As incidents of violence against minority communities in the past few years across the country have seen a spike, what specifically raises eyebrows is the fact that a bulk of complaints, or 71 per cent of total complaints and petitions received by the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) in the past five years are related to the Muslim community alone.

Uttar Pradesh has been the only state for the last five years, from where the maximum number of complaints related to the Muslim community have been received by the commission.

According to the Ministry of Minority Affairs’ data, of the total 10,562 complaints received by the commission related to all the minority communities, namely Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists between 2017-18 and 2022-23 (till January 31, 2023), 7,508 pertain to the Muslim community alone. This is 71 per cent of total complaints received by the minorities’ panel from all the minority communities.

As per Section 9(1) of the NCM Act, 1992, among its various other functions, the commission is required to look into specific complaints regarding deprivation of rights and safeguard of minorities and taking up such matters with the appropriate authorities.

The complaints now being received by it are mostly related to police atrocities, service matters, minority educational institutions and encroachments to religious properties.

Reports are sought from the concerned authorities under the Union and state governments. On receipt of the reports, the commission makes appropriate recommendations to the respective authorities for redressal of the grievances.

A closer analysis of the data pertaining to the total complaints received in the last five years by the NCM, a majority of them come from the Muslim community.

In 2017-18, of the total 1,498 complaints received by NCM, 1,128 of them or 75 per cent of the complaints came from the Muslim community. Of these, 529 complaints were from Uttar Pradesh alone from Muslims.

Similarly in 2018-19, 1,344 complaints of the total 1,871 complaints (72 per cent) received by the commission, belonged to the Muslim community. Here, too, Uttar Pradesh led with 810 complaints from the Muslim community.

This pattern could also be seen in 2019-20, when 73.7 per cent of the total complaints received by NCM, were from the Muslim community, with Uttar Pradesh leading with 728 complaints.

In 2020-21, too, 75.5 per cent or 1,105 out of the total 1,463 complaints received by the panel pertained to the Muslim community, with 646 from Uttar Pradesh alone.

In 2021-22, 68 per cent of the total complaints came from the Muslim community to the NCM, 659 being from Uttar Pradesh.

During the current fiscal (2022-23) till January 31, 2023, the NCM received 1,984 complaints, of which 1,279 or 64.4 per cent came from the Muslim community, with 662 from Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Ministry’s data, complaints received by the panel from other minority communities have been very few during the last five years, if the figures are to be compared to those sent by the Muslim community.

However, with maximum complaints lodged with the NCM coming from the Muslim community and that, too, mainly from Uttar Pradesh, which is easily miles ahead of other states in terms of sheer number of complaints received from there, indeed shows the growing level of intolerance towards a particular community, especially in a state considered to be one of the most politically conscious and significant.

  • After 500 yrs, Lord Ram will adorn the throne at Ayodhya within a year: Adityanath

After 500 yrs, Lord Ram will adorn the throne at Ayodhya within a year: Adityanath

    [ad_1]

Agartala: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that after 500 years, Lord Ram would adorn the throne of Ram temple in Ayodhya even as the CPI-M and the Congress do not believe in the existence of Lord Ram or Krishna.

Addressing an election rally at Majlishpur in western Tripura on Wednesday, the Chief Minister added that the Ram temple would be ready within a year and Lord Ram after sitting in his throne would give all of us his blessings.

“The Congress and the CPI-M have believed only in corruption and violence. Tripura was once infamous during the regime of Congress and CPI-M,” Adityanath said, adding that after the BJP-led government came to power (in 2018) in the state, peace and good governance have prevailed.

Saying that during the regime of the Congress and CPI-M the benefit of development and welfare did not reach to the people, he claimed that now Tripura has become one of the developed states in the country.

The double-engine government provided a lot from connectivity to welfare of the people, the Chief Minister said.

“People voted for the BJP, and the BJP government gave huge developmental gifts to the people. The Tripura government aiming to empower the women introduced 33 per cent reservation for the women in government jobs. Be it Awas Yojana or farmers’ welfare scheme to health scheme, the Modi government has given everything to the common and poor people.”

Adityanath also alleged that the Congress and CPI-M are trying to derail the development mission of the double-engine governments and their only aim is to keep the people backward to reap political dividends.

The Chief Minister said that corruption was at its peak when Congress ruled the country.

“The country witnessed the Congress’ coal scam, 2G scam, defence equipment procurement scandal and the Commonwealth Games scam. Corruption became synonymous with Congress,” he added.

Iran: Journalist to serve 2 yrs in jail for Amini’s father’s interview

    [ad_1]

Tehran: The Iranian judicial authorities sentenced journalist Nazila Maroufian to two years in prison, for interviewing Amjad Amini, father of Mahsa Amini, whose death in a headquarters of the morality police sparked protests that have been going on in country for months.

Iranian journalist Nazila Maroofian on Saturday announced that the verdict was issued against her without court hearing, after she was arrested on Sunday, October 30, on the grounds of her interview with Mahsa Amini’s father.

“Based on the decision of Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Afshari, I have been sentenced to two years in prison, a fine…and a five-year ban from leaving the country,” Nazila Maroofian tweeted.

Nazila continued, “This verdict was issued without a hearing and defense pleadings,” adding that she was accused of “propaganda against the regime and spreading false news.”

It is noteworthy that the Iranian regime continues to suppress voices opposing it and the press, as Tehran journalists association estimates that at least 28 Iranian journalists have been arrested since the outbreak of the protests.

Iran has been witnessing protests since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, on September 16, after she was arrested in Tehran by the morality police on suspicion of not respecting the country’s dress code.

The demonstrations involved people from all walks of life and different sects in Iran after Amini’s killing.

Iranian women are at the fore in the demonstrations, in which many young people participate, to chants of “Woman life freedom” and “Death to the dictator.”

The protests represent one of the country’s boldest challenges since the 1979 revolution.

The Israeli authorities have issued more than 12,000 administrative detention orders (without charge) against Palestinian detainees over the past nine years.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC) said in a statement on Wednesday, the highest percentage of issuance of administrative detention orders was in 2022.

Telangana: 9 yrs after wife’s suicide, man jailed for abetment

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A man was convicted in a domestic violence and abetment to suicide case of 2014, and was handed a three-year jail term on Monday, nine years after the incident.

Bibinagar police on December 8, 2014, had received a complaint from P. Agamaiah, 50 that his daughter Lavanya who was married to V. Krishna 13 years ago and had a son, killed herself due to domestic violence and dowry harassment.

The accused Krishna, 39, a resident of Jameelapet, Bibinagar started harassing his wife for additional dowry just a few days after their marriage.

Lavanya, unable to bear the torture, took the matter in front of her elders who mediated it and settled the issue between the couple.

However, the accused once again began harassing his wife physically and mentally and necked her out of the house for additional dowry despite mediations.

Lavanya set herself ablaze, pouring kerosene, on December 8 following which she was rushed to Bhongir’s Government Hospital.

On December 13, while undergoing treatment Lavanya succumbed to her burns.

Based on the victim’s father’s complaint a case was registered at Bibinagar PS, and a probe into the matter was launched.

The accused was then arrested and remanded to judicial custody post-investigation.

The Bhongiri court convicted the accused V. Krishna to undergo three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on him.

CP Rachakonda appreciated the efforts of his team with the announcement to reward them.
