Rajasthan: VHP, Bajrang Dal distribute trishuls to 1,100 youth

    [ad_1]

Rajashthan’s capital Jaipur witnessed right-wing organizations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal distributing trishuls (tridents) to around 1,100 Hindu men which was followed by a call for Hindu Rashtra. The event was organised at Vidyadhar on Monday.

This is not the first time such events are taking place. On January 23, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak Ishwar Lal distributed trishuls in Lohwat district of Rajasthan.

Bharat ke Andar tees hazar mandir hai jin ko todh kar unke upar kya bana die Masjide. Kitni Sankhya hai? 30,000. Bolo wapis mandir banana hai ki nahi banana hai? Ram jika toh bana diya, lekin abhi 30,000 baaki hai unko mandir banana hai. Wapis apna sthan hum ko lena hai. Aur uska naam hai Bajrang Dal. (Thirty thousand temples in India were destroyed and mosques were built on them. What is the number? 30,000. Do you want to convert them back to temples or not? We made the Ram temple, but still, 30,000 temples remain. We have to convert them into temples. We have to take back our lands)” he said in a speech.

In December 2022, a similar event was organised where trishuls were distributed and hate speech against Muslims was made. Around 500-700 people attended the event. Similar trishul distribution events were reportedly held at Balesar, Rampura, Osiyan, Dechu around Rajasthan.

Andhra youth migrating to other states for jobs: Lokesh

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Youth from Andhra Pradesh are migrating to various parts of the country in search of employment opportunities as there are no jobs in the state, TDP national General Secretary Nara Lokesh said on Sunday.

As part of his ongoing padayatra ‘Yuva Galam’, Lokesh, the son of TDP chief and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, had a meeting with the local youth at Kanipakam in Puthalapattu Assembly segment in Chittoor district.

The youth informed Lokesh that they are migrating to other states in search of some employment and wanted him to initiate immediate steps for establishing companies in the state soon after coming back to power, thus saving the lives of the youth. “The state government should not threaten the companies and only then the investors will set up their units in the state,” a youth said.

The youth from Rayalaseema lost employment opportunities as the Amara Raja Batteries shifted its unit to Telangana. They told the TDP leader that they pursued their studies by raising loans and now there is no employment.

Lokesh assured the youth that all the companies that shifted their units from the state will be invited back once the TDP is again into the government and the youth will be provided employment opportunities.

Responding to the complaint that the RTC fares are revised following which there is a lot of financial burden on them, Lokesh promised to withdraw once the TDP is back in the government.

The TDP national General Secretary also demanded that the age limit be extended for government jobs since the employment notifications are issued very late.

“Why is the job calendar not released on January 1 as promised,” Lokesh asked and said that over 2.30 lakh posts have been lying vacant for the past four years.

“Chief Minister Mr Jagan (Mohan Reddy) who had said that he would make Delhi tremble if the voters from the State give him 25 MPs, is now getting shivers on seeing Delhi,” Lokesh said in a sarcastic manner.

    [ad_1]

Ballia: Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Minority Welfare Danish Azad Ansari on Friday targeted the Samajwadi Party (SP) and said its leaders have a problem with the progress of the Muslim youth.

Ansari, the only Muslim minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, told reporters in Sikandarpur on Friday afternoon said that the progress of Muslim youths makes SP leaders “uncomfortable” and they are “troubled” by it.

Calling upon the youth of the Muslim community to contribute in the development of the society, Ansari said today it is necessary that they should contribute in the development of the society with promptness.

The minister alleged that the SP has a problem with the development of the minority society of Uttar Pradesh. Four Kashmiri Youth Detained In Ahmedabad

SRINAGAR: Ahmedabad Crime Branch and the city police have detained four Kashmiri youths from the Motera area because of their suspicious movement near the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Deputy Commissioner of Crime Branch, Chetainya Mandlik, told media that the CB team and the local police detained the four Kashmiri youths from the Motera area because of their suspicious movement near Narendra Modi stadium late on Monday night.

The officer said that the four youths, all of whom are from Budgam near Srinagar, are being questioned about their presence in Ahmedabad.

According to sources, the youths were found in an area near the stadium, where ordinary citizens are not allowed to move. In the past, they had visited and stayed in a mosque in the Palanpur area. This time, after arriving in Ahmedabad, they had checked in at the Haj house.

The police suspected their movement because of the T20 international match between India and New Zealand scheduled at the stadium on February 1. Both teams have already reached the city and are practising at the stadium. (IANS)

  • Guv to seek views from Kerala Univ VC on CPI-M youth leader PhD thesis row

Guv to seek views from Kerala Univ VC on CPI-M youth leader PhD thesis row

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: With the controversy over errors in the PhD thesis of Kerala State Youth Commission Chairperson and CPI-M youth leader Chintha Jerome continuing, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, who is also the Chancellor of state universities, will seek an explanation from the Kerala University Vice Chancellor after receiving complaints in this regard.

This move has come at a time when the CPI-M top brass is mulling a scrutiny of the PhD thesis and has given the nod to the Kerala University to constitute a four-member team to scrutinise it.

This special team will submit its report to the University Syndicate, which will then be passed to the Senate. The Senate, in turn, will advise the Chancellor on what needs to be done.

Jerome’s dissertation is titled “The ideological foundation of Malayalam commercial cinema in the neoliberal times”, for which she was awarded a PhD in English Literature from the Kerala University in 2021.

Detractors of Jerome have come out with a fundamental mistake in her thesis where she has written that Malayalam poem titled “Vazhakkula” was penned by Vyloppilli while it was originally written by another hugely popular poet Changampuzha Krishna Pillai.

Jerome’s principal guide for her thesis was the then Pro V-C of Kerala University P.P. Ajayakumar.

Her fellow youth leaders in the CPI-M are defending her to the hilt by stating that it is just a technical error and spelling mistakes are not a serious issue as this is not the first time such things are happening.

Meanwhile for the first time after this controversy erupted, Jerome broke her silence and admitted that what happened was a human error.

“The reference to mistake that has occurred does not have relevance to the topic of the thesis. It was just said in context. I am thankful to those who have pointed out this error and this is just a human error. I am going to bring my thesis as a book and in it, the necessary corrections will be made,” she said.

Since this issue surfaced last week, every day there are protests and marches being taken out by the student and youth wing of the Congress.

Social media is buzzing with hilarious posts, many of which have become viral now.

Numerous complaints have also surfaced against this and with the Assembly session all set to resume its sitting shortly, all eyes will be on the Congress-led opposition.

  • CPI-M’s youth wing witnessing increased inflow of new members in Bengal

CPI-M’s youth wing witnessing increased inflow of new members in Bengal

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Despite the CPI-M being reduced to zero in terms of presence in the West Bengal Assembly, its youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has witnessed an increased inflow of new members in the state in the recent past, its state chief said on Tuesday.

“Between 2019 and 2022, the number of active members of DYFI in West Bengal has increased by over three lakh. As of December 31, 2022, the total number of members of the youth wing stands at 30,03,720. During the last one year only, the number increased by 1.17 lakh,” DYFI state President Minakshi Mukherjee told media persons.

She also said that the maximum increase in membership has been witnessed in Kolkata and Malda district. According to her, the number of subscribers of the DYFI’s organ in Bengali, ‘Yuvashakti’ has more than doubled from 7,000 to 18,000 during the last one year.

According to her, the youths are spontaneously approaching the youth wing these days expressing eagerness to its members. “This is because the DYFI is leading the movement against corruption on the streets. We are increasingly winning the confidence of the youths,” she said.

Mukherjee also said that the members of the DYFI will be within and outside the polling booths during the forthcoming elections for the three-tier panchayat system in the state to resist attempts to unleash violence.

“We will try our best that the people are able to cast their votes without fear and intimidation,” she said.

She also said that before the rural civic body polls, the DYFI will set up panchayat-wise committees.

“I am confident that the contest in the forthcoming rural civic body polls will not be a bipolar one between Trinamool Congress and BJP as it happened in the last few elections. Our party will be a strong contender this time,” she added.

  • Chhattisgarh CM Baghel announces allowance for unemployed youth

Chhattisgarh CM Baghel announces allowance for unemployed youth

    [ad_1]

Jagdalpur: In a major announcement ahead of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls due this year-end, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said unemployed youth will be given a monthly allowance in the state from the next financial year.

It was one of the key promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls, following which the party returned to power in the state after a gap of 15 years.

Addressing people on the occasion of the Republic Day on Thursday after unfurling the national flag at the Lalbag Parade grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state to strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy.

The CM further said factories located in industrial areas developed by the Industries Department will be exempted from property tax.

He also made a number of other announcements, including setting up of an aerocity near Raipur airport, housing assistance scheme for labourers and a scheme to promote women entrepreneurship, apparently eyeing the Assembly elections.

“Unemployed youth will be given an unemployment allowance every month from the next financial year (2023-24),” Baghel said without specifying the amount.

An aerocity will be developed near the Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, to enhance passenger facilities, commercial development of the airport area and employment generation, he said.

Construction workers registered with the Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for a period of three years will be given a grant of Rs 50,000 for building their houses, he said.

To strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy, and to increase employment and the income of people in rural pockets, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state.

Besides, a new scheme will also be brought to encourage women groups, women entrepreneurs, and businesswomen to launch start-ups and set up industries, he said.

Baghel asserted that the state government was determined to preserve the tribal culture and festivals.
An aid of Rs 10,000 will be provided every year to each gram panchayat for organising festivals of tribal communities in the tribal-dominated Bastar and Surguja divisions and scheduled areas of the state from the next financial year, he said.
Besides, Chhattisgarh State Innovation Commission will be constituted with an aim to promote innovation for the development of the state, he said.

A riverfront will be developed along the Kharun river which flows on the outskirts of the capital Raipur bordering Durg district, he said.

Baghel said the Ramayan and Manas Mandli Mahotsav will be held in the state and Maa Kaushlaya Mahotsav will be organised in Chandkhuri, where Mata Kaushlya temple is located, every year.

According to research scholars, Chandkhuri, situated in Raipur district, is the birthplace of Mata Kaushalya and the temple there is the only one in the world dedicated to her.

The temple has been renovated and beautified by the Congress government as a part of its ambitious ‘Ram Van Gaman’ tourism circuit project under which all significant places in the state which Lord Ram is believed to have visited during his exile are being developed as places of tourist attraction.

Holmes, an activist and rapper who goes by the stage name Will Keeps, joined a gang as a 13-year-old in Chicago but moved to Iowa more than two decades ago and dedicated his life to helping young people in need, according to his LinkedIn page.

Eighteen-year-old Preston Walls of Des Moines was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of criminal gang participation. He made a brief court appearance Tuesday, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 3.

Walls is jailed on $1 million bond. The Polk County public defender’s office, which will provide his attorney, declined comment.

Walls was on supervised release for a weapons charge, and he cut off his ankle monitor 16 minutes before the shooting, police said.

“There was nothing random about this,” Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said.

Investigators say in the charging document that Walls had a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun with a high-capacity extended magazine concealed on him when he entered a common area of the program. The affidavit said Holmes tried to escort Walls out, but Walls pulled away, drew the gun and shot the two teenagers several times.

The document said one victim tried to flee, but Walls chased him down “and shot him multiple more times.” The document blacked out the name of the victim except the first letter of the last name, “C,” indicating it was Carr.

Holmes was struck by the gunfire. His family said in a statement Tuesday that he “has a long recovery ahead and we are deeply appreciative for the care he is receiving.”

Despite his injuries, Holmes is “now more determined than ever to continue with his work with at-risk youth and looks forward to, once again, working hand-in-hand with other community leaders on the mission of Starts Right Here,” they wrote.

Responding officers saw a suspicious vehicle leaving the area and stopped it. Police said Walls ran but was found hiding in a brush pile with the 9 mm handgun next to him. The ammunition magazine, which has a capacity of 31 rounds, contained three, police said.

According to the affidavit, the shooting was captured on surveillance video, and Walls’ clothing and his Glock firearm matched those seen on the video.

The Starts Right Here board of directors said in a statement that classes were cancelled for the remainder of the week and that grief counselors will be available. The program which began in 2021 helps at-risk youth in grades 9-12 and is affiliated with the Des Moines school district.

“These actions are contrary to all that we stand for and point out more must be done,” the board said. “These two students had hope and a future that will never be realized.”

Dameron’s father, Gary Dameron, 37, said his son was on track to graduate this spring. He planned to attend barber college and become a barber, just like his dad.

Gary Dameron said he has known Holmes for years and reached out to him personally to get his son enrolled in Starts Right Here. Despite the police claim that the shooting was gang-related, he said his son was not involved in a gang, describing him as “family-oriented” with a “goofy” sense of humor.

“He just had one of those personalities that when he came in the room, everybody kind of gravitated to him,” Gary Dameron said.

Gionni Dameron turned 18 on Friday, his father said.

Dameron said his son and Carr were best friends. He described Carr as “very respectable,” cool and soft-spoken.

Last year, Walls was charged with three counts alleging that he knowingly resisted or obstructed a West Des Moines police officer while armed with a firearm and intoxicated, court records show.

His attorney in that case, Jake Feuerhelm, said that in the incident last May, Walls was part of gathering of young people that police approached. While they were trying to sort out what was happening, Walls, who was 17 at the time, took off. Because he was armed while fleeing from police, he was charged, Feuerhelm said.

Feuerhelm said he didn’t know whether Walls was part of the school program.

Keeps said in his LinkedIn profile that he was just 15 when he saw a friend die at the hands of a rival gang. A gun pointed at him jammed and he was beaten but survived.

“I moved to Des Moines in my 20’s and began a new life, focusing on my future and how I wanted to be remembered,” Keeps wrote. “I wanted to help others to make a change so they wouldn’t have to go through life feeling uncared for, unloved, or in a home that wasn’t safe.”

The Starts Right Here website says 70% of the students it serves are members of minority groups, and it has had 28 graduates since it began. The school district said the program serves 40 to 50 students at any given time.
