Coal worth Rs 23 cr discovered during I-T raid in Jharkhand

    [ad_1]

Ranchi: The Income Tax (I-T) Department has unearthed a stock of 22,000 metric tonne of coal during raids conducted at the premises of Agriti Minerals Private Ltd, a Jharkhand-based company involved in the business of mining products.

During investigation, it was revealed that the coal was meant to be supplied to two power plants in the state, but instead was illegally dumped by the company. The coal was stored at the company’s bases at Kuju town in the Ramgarh district.

In the assessment done by the I-T Department, it has been revealed that the value of illegally dumped coal at the company’s premises is Rs 23.75 crore. The department had conducted a survey on March 20-21 at the company’s locations in Ranchi and Kuju.

During the survey, it was found that the company has a huge stock of coal at its premises as compared to the details entered in its stock register. The evaluation of this stock was done by the experts of Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), a Central government company.

Investigation revealed that this coal was to be supplied to Maithon Power Limited and Koderma Thermal Power Limited, but the company dumped it. The plans were to illegally sell the coal at high prices in the market.

The businessman running the company has also accepted the proof of having an undisclosed income of Rs 4.5 crore. He has also agreed to pay a tax of Rs 1.5 crore to the I-T Department.

  • India to cross $10 bn worth mobile exports in FY22-23, Apple leads at 50%

India to cross $10 bn worth mobile exports in FY22-23, Apple leads at 50%

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Buoyed by attractive government incentives towards local manufacturing, India is all set to reach a remarkable $10 billion (over Rs 82,000 crore) worth smartphone exports in the fiscal year ending March 31, industry data showed on Wednesday.

According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), Apple’s ‘Make in India’ smartphone now constitute 50 per cent of total exports.

Samsung is second with 40 per cent mobile exports while other smartphone players constitute 10 per cent export share.

Smartphone exports from India have doubled from a corresponding period from last fiscal year, driven by production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes.

The top five global destinations India currently exports mobile phones to are the UAE, the US, the Netherlands, the UK and Italy, according to the ICEA data.

“Efficacy and maturity of an industry is only judged with robust exports. Mobile phones policy and outreach initiatives have been relentless and the results are in front of us,” Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA, told IANS.

“The mobile phone industry will cross $40 billion manufacturing output and 25 per cent exports at $10 billion is a stellar performance,” he added.

Reports surfaced earlier this year that Tim Cook-led Apple will quickly shift some of its China manufacturing to India and Vietnam in the next 2-3 years.

India is likely to produce 45-50 per cent of Apple’s iPhones by 2027, at par with China, where 80-85 per cent of iPhones were produced in 2022.

According to estimates by DigiTimes research analysts, India and Vietnam are to become the biggest beneficiaries of smartphone supply chain migration out of China.

India accounted for 10-15 per cent of iPhones’ overall production capacity at the end of 2022.

Apple became the first smartphone player in India to have exported $1 billion worth iPhones in the month of December. It currently manufactures iPhones 12, 13, 14 and 14 Plus in the country.

According to Mohindroo, the country is now moving in a different direction, “which is largely export-focused and led by the government’s performance-linked scheme (PLI) push”.

The government is also working to strengthen the electronic manufacturing ecosystem beyond mobiles to boost its global share in hearables and wearables, IT hardware and electronic components etc.

  • Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

    [ad_1]

Thane: In a bizarre crime spree, thieves apparently lurked freely among thousands of devotees, including women, at a 2-day spiritual congregation addressed by self-styled ‘guru’, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri at Mira Road town and targetted many women attending.

According to the Mira Road police, after the 26-year-old Shastri’s discourses ended, at least three dozen women have lodged complaints of their gold chains being stolen during the two-day congregation.

As per the complaints, the victims have lost their gold chains, mostly ‘mangalsutras’, weighing between 5 gm to 25 gms, either made in pure gold or with other metals.

The Mira Road Police have pegged the total value of the stolen booty at a staggering Rs 4,87,000!

The event of Shastri – which had sparked off a political row here – was held at the sprawling Salasar Central Park grounds, attracting more than 200,000 devotees, including a large number of women.

At one point, due to poor management, it led to a near-stampede on Saturday in which one woman devotee was injured after which the local police had started security checks and crowd control at the entry points to the venue.

Many women had been lured by Shastri’s purported “miracles” and “healing powers”, and had come in hopes of some cure, but some returned not only disappointed but minus their gold chains/mangalsutras, said an official.

The organisers, the Shantaben Mithalal Jain Charitable Trust, had invited Shastri – the head priest of Bagesgwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur – for the event even as some rationalist groups had opposed it and written to police not to grant permission.

Besieged with so many complaints, the Mira Road Police have lodged a common FIR for the first three dozen women victims, and are scanning the CCTV footage of the venue to identify the chain-snatchers in the huge crowds and catch the culprits.

Describing Modi and Trump’s relationship, the report stated, “The media reported on the “strategic friendship” between President Trump and India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, calling it a “bromance”. In February 2020, CNN summarized the President and First Lady’s “showy state visit” to India as having “plenty of impressive photos but without major announcements on trade or security.”

According to the report, official gifts from foreign countries given to the president and federal officials and their families are required to be registered under the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act. The minimum value is locked at $415 (Rs 34,254).

“The law requires that all foreign gifts over the minimal value be publicly disclosed, regardless of their final disposition. • India approves capital acquisition of military hardware worth Rs 70,584 cr

India approves capital acquisition of military hardware worth Rs 70,584 cr

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: India on Thursday approved capital acquisition of a plethora of indigenously-developed military hardware including indigenous BrahMos missiles, marine diesel engine, artillery gun system, electronic warfare suits and utility helicopters at a cost of Rs 70,584 crore as part of a mega procurement plan.

Out of the total acquisition plan, the Indian Navy’s proposals constitute more than Rs 56,000 crore, which largely included Shakti Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, maritime helicopters and other key equipment, officials said.

All the platforms and weapons systems are being procured from domestic sources.

The other key military hardware which are being procured included long range stand-off weapon (LRSOW), K-9 Vajra-T gun system, 155mm/52 caliber advanced towed artillery gun system (ATAGS) and gun towing vehicles (GTVs) for the Indian Army.

The approval to the procurement proposals has been accorded by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, an official statement said.

The approval for a medium speed marine diesel engine is seen as a significant step as for the first time, India is venturing into the development and manufacturing of such engines indigenously.

The go ahead to the fresh procurement proposals came amid the nearly three-year standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh with China.

The DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition amounting to Rs 70,584 crore and all the procurement will be made under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.

The total approval granted for capital acquisition in the financial year 2022-23 now stands at Rs 2,71,538 crore, out of which 98.9 per cent of the procurement will be sourced from the Indian industries, the officials said.

“Such quantum of indigenous procurement will not only galvanize the Indian industries towards achieving the goal of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) but also reduce India’s dependency on foreign vendors to a large extent,” Singh’s office tweeted.

About Navy’s proposals, the defence ministry said while the additional procurement of BrahMos missile system will enhance the maritime strike capabilities and anti-surface warfare operation, the addition of utility helicopters will multiply the operational readiness of the force.

Similarly, Shakti systems will equip and modernise the frontline Naval ships to counter any Naval operations by the adversaries, it said.

“To keep pace with the emerging technologies and counter the adversaries in the Western and Northern front, the necessity of the new weapons and its integration with the delivery platforms was felt by the government,” the ministry said.

“To achieve the same objectives, the DAC accorded the approval to Indian Air Force’s proposal for Long Range Stand-Off Weapon (LRSOW) which will be indigenously designed, developed and integrated on SU-30 MKI aircraft,” it said.

“For artillery modernisation, in addition to the ongoing Dhanush Gun System and K-9 Vajra-T Gun System, AoN for procurement of 155mm/52 Caliber Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) along with High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) and Gun Towing Vehicles (GTVs) for the Indian Army was accorded by the DAC,” it said.

“It (DAC) also accorded AoN for procurement of Advance Light Helicopters (ALH) MK-III from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Coast Guard. The helicopter will be able to carry a suite of surveillance sensors which will enhance the surveillance capabilities,” the ministry said.

“It will also give full night capability and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) capability for operations of the Indian Coast Guard,” it said.
