Natural gas reserves worth $1 bn found in Turkey: President

Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the country has discovered natural gas reserves valued at $1 billion in Gabar Mountain in southeastern Sirnak province.
Erdogan made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a sports complex in Sakarya province, Xinhua news agency reported.
Also in the southeastern mountain, Turkey announced in December last year the discovery of 150 million barrels of net oil reserves, valued at approximately $12 billion, which Erdogan said was “one of the top 10 onshore discoveries in 2022”.

With four wells operational, the region is estimated to produce 5,000 barrels of oil per day.
The government has rolled out a series of large infrastructure and defence projects ahead of the general elections on May 14, when the Turkish leader will seek a third term in office.
Recently, Turkey commissioned its first multi-purpose amphibious assault ship and subsequently launched the country’s first delivery from its Black Sea field.

Hyderabad: Man held for selling banned E-Cigarettes worth Rs 4 lakhs in Begumpet

Hyderabad: The commissioner’s Task Force and Panajgutta police arrested a person who was involved in the illegal procurement and selling of banned E-Cigarettes that contain nicotine.
A total of 103 E-Cigarettes were seized from the possession of the accused, all worth Rs 4,00,000.
The accused, 34-year-old Satish is a Maharashtra native, who currently resides in Begumpet. He owns a bakery shop named Sona Bakery and Kirana.

As per the press release, the accused purchased a piece of land around 2 years ago at Begumpet and started to sell bakery items.
Due to inadequate money, he allegedly collected the banned E-Cigarettes at his bakery and sold them to customers at high rates.
According to the police, he used to procure E-Cigarettes at low prices from a Mumbai man named Mass through a courier, then sold them at high prices.
The police conducted a raid at his bakery shop, apprehend the accused, and seized E-Cigareetes.
Panjagutta SHO took his custody for further investigation.

Hyderabad: IPL betting rackets busted; property worth Rs 1.41 cr seized

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Wednesday busted massive cricket betting networks, arrested twelve persons in two separate cases and seized property worth more than Rs 1.41 crore.
According to the police, the accused were cricket bookies of organized online cricket betting rackets for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 matches.
Rs 50 lakh in cash, 5 betting boards, 8 laptops, 62 mobile phones, 20 smartphones, 1 Tablet, 4 televisions, 1 Router and 4 four-wheelers were seized from their possession.

In the first case, the police arrested Muthina Vasanth Kumar, Kalidindi Venkata Ramaraju, Ponduri Venkat Sai and Kruthiventi Ramesh. Ayyappa alias Manikanta, the main bookie of Vasanth Kumar is absconding.
In the second case, the police arrested Chittibomma Karthik, Badam Veeresh, Bandari Shiva Kumar, Middela Manoj Kumar, Chintala Venkata Padma Chandra Mohan Rao, Chandrapati Satish Kumar, Manne Sathyanarayana alias Satish and Patapati Ravi Varma. Kumar, Pandu, Sk Jilani, and Prabhakar, the main bookies, in this case, are absconding.
Nine of the accused persons in the case are residents of Andhra Pradesh.
The city police advised the public to be wary of the following Apps: Bet 365, MPL, Betway, Dream Guru, My 11 Circle, Bet 365, Coral, Bwin, 777 Bet, Dafabet, Winner, Cricket Betting 2020, Just Bet, Betfred, and Lotus Cricket Line.

ED attaches Cong MP Karti Chidambaram’s properties worth Rs 11.04 crore

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday attached properties to the tune of Rs 11.04 crore belonging to Congress MP Karti Chidambaram in the INX money laundering case, an official statement said here.
The ED said that out of four attached properties, one is an immovable asset located in Coorg district of Karnataka.
A provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) has been issued against Karti, the statement said.

Karti Chidamabaram, son of former union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidamabaram, is a sitting MP from Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu and was arrested in the INX case both by the CBI as well as the ED.
The case pertains to alleged illegal gratification received “directly or indirectly” from INX Media Pvt Limited to which Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval was granted during the tenure of his father as Union finance minister in the UPA government.

Customs officials seize heroin worth Rs 17 crore at Mumbai airport; foreign national held

Mumbai: The airport customs has seized 2.4 kg of heroin worth Rs 16.8 crore at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after arresting a foreign national, an official said on Monday.
According to the official, based on specific intelligence, the Mumbai airport customs intercepted the foreign national who arrived from Entebbe, Uganda, and seized 2.4 kg of the contraband value at Rs 16.8 crore from him on Sunday.
During the probe, customs personnel found the drug was concealed in a false cavity of a carton, he said.

The passenger has been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation was on, the official added.

BJP leader among 2 held with illicit liquor worth Rs 10 lakh

Pilibhit: A BJP leader was among two persons allegedly arrested with illicit liquor worth Rs 10 lakh in the Barkheda police station area of this Uttar Pradesh district on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police (SP), a team from Barkheda Police Station, along with the joint team of the excise department recovered a large amount of illicit liquor from a vehicle and arrested two accused.
The two accused have been identified as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district media in-charge Shyam Bihari Bhojwal and Babu, a resident of Gadarpur police station, Kotwali Sadar, district Rudrapur in Uttarakhand.

BJP district president Sanjeev Pratap Singh said Bhojwal is the former district media incharge and added that a report for further action will be taken once the police investigation gets over.

Ex-journalist held for house break-ins; valuables worth Rs 20 lakh recovered

Thane: Police have arrested a 32-year-old former journalist from Dombivli in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly stealing valuables by breaking into houses, an official said on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone III – Kalyan) Sachin Gunjal said, “Of late, the number of house break-in and theft cases had gone up in the Kalyan-Dombivli region.
The police had formed teams that worked on various leads, including the CCTV footages and intelligence inputs, finally nabbed the accused.”

The police recovered from him 47 ‘tola’ gold ornaments and a couple of laptops worth Rs 20 lakh, he said.
With his arrest, the police claimed to have solved eight cases of house break-in and thefts in the region.
The accused is well-educated and worked as a journalist in a leading newpaper in Mumbai till 2011. He got addicted to dance bars and in order to earn quick money, he started targeting houses for thefts, the police official said.
“He used to strike the locked houses and loot the ornaments,” he added.
