Hyderabad: Hookah worth Rs 60,000 seized in Golconda, 2 arrested

Hyderabad: A hookah parlor was raided by Task Force police officials in the Golconda area for operating the place without a valid license. ‘The Pan house N More’ was raided on Tuesday following which two were arrested and 22 Hookahs were seized.
In the raid, 22 hookahs worth Rs. 60,000 were recovered from the accused. Mirza Ibrahim Ahmed (23), Mohd Wajeed (22) were arrested while the third person Mirza Furqan Baig managed to escape.
According to a press release from the Hyderabad police, on enquiry, Mirza Ibrahim Ahmed confessed that he and his friend Mirzaq Furqan Baig had decided to earn easy money by providing hookah to customers at Mirza Garden function in Golconda.

The police said that Mirza Ibrahim Ahmed had dumped a huge quantity of ‘magic charcoal’ and other hookah items which are highly flammable in nature and could result in fire accidents
“Mirza Ibrahim Ahmed and Modh Wajeed had taken no safety precautions while dumping charcoals hence, they violated the guidelines under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and and Hyderabad City Police Act,” the police said.

Dubai honours 101 taxi drivers for returning cash worth Rs 8 cr, diamonds worth Rs 2 cr

Abu Dhabi: Dubai’s Roads and Transport (RTA) has recognised 101 drivers for their honesty in handling valuable lost and found items while on duty from January 2022 to March 2023.
This acknowledgment is in recognition of the prompt action of the drivers in reporting found items to the appropriate authorities, enabling these items to be returned to their owners in record time.
Items found by the drivers included
A black bag containing diamonds valued at 1 million Dirhams (Rs 2,22,60,070)
3.6 Dirhams (Rs 8,01,36,252) million in cash
Bag containing gold worth 200,000 Dirhams (Rs 44,52,014)
An expensive handbag and a watch valued at 50,000 dollars (Rs 40,87,275)
183,000 Dirhams in cash (Rs 40,73,592)
A bag with 200,000 Dirhams (Rs 44,52,014)
Watch worth 60,000 dollars (Rs 49,04,730) addition to 221,000 Dirhams (Rs 49,19,475) in cash
According to Chief Executive Officer of the Roads and Transport Authority, Ahmad Behrozyan, taxi drivers’ reports of lost and found items create joy among residents and are prime examples of honesty, integrity and responsible behaviour.

He pointed out that this procedure of reporting and finding lost items shows its internal character and also promotes transportation in Dubai as an attractive option.

FPIs bought equity worth Rs 9,752 crore in April

New Delhi: Foreign portfolio investors turned aggressive buyers in the last few days of April.
FPIs have bought equity worth Rs 9,752 crore till April 29.
V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services said FPIs appear to have changed their investment strategy in India in recent days.

While they were sellers in the initial three months of this year, they have turned buyers in April and aggressive buyers in the last few days of April. FPIs have bought equity worth Rs 9,752 crore till April 29.
Vijayakumar said an important macro factor that has tilted the FPI approach is the appreciation in rupee.
Rupee which had touched a low of 82.94 (INR) to the dollar in late February this year has now appreciated to INR 81.75 to the dollar. India’s Current Account Deficit is declining and if this trend continues the rupee may appreciate further.
FPIs are likely to bring more inflows into India in this context. FPIs have been buying in financial services and auto and auto components, he added.
The monthly economic review for March released by the finance ministry said the narrowing of the CAD, accompanied by a rising inflow of foreign portfolio investment (FPI) resulted in an increase in foreign exchange reserves by the end of third quarter of 2022-23.

With forex reserves further increasing by the end of 2022-23, prospects of a still narrower CAD in the fourth quarter of 2022-23 are bright.
Even as external stability strengthened, factors contributing to internal stability also improved.
Fiscal parameters for the Centre and the states in 2022-23 have been robust, as seen in solid revenue generation and improvement in the quality of expenditure, the document said.

Gold worth Rs 25L seized at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: The Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad caught a passenger who was smuggling gold on Thursday. The officials seized 400 grams of gold worth Rs 25 lakh from them.
Acting on a tipoff, the officials caught the passenger who had concealed the gold strips in cutting pliers and smuggled them out of the RGI Airport. The man was handed over to customs officials for further action.

Vizag city police arrest woman, recover gold worth lakhs

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Police on Wednesday arrested a woman and recovered gold ornaments, worth lakhs, from his possession, police said.
According to Visakhapatnam City Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime G Naganna, a team was formed and a search operation was launched on Wednesday.
The team arrested Patti Durga from Ayyappa Nagar Road.

“Gold black beads garland, gold rope, and a gold pearl chain weighing 75 grams, among other items were recovered from her,” the officer said.
He said during interrogation, the arrested woman revealed that owing to her debt of Rs 9 lakh, an amount she borrowed for her ageing father’s treatment, she indulged in theft.

Hyderabad: Mir Alam Tank musical fountain worth Rs 2.5 cr lies ignored

Hyderabad: Musical fountain at the Mir Alam Tank, developed at the cost of Rs 2.55 crores has nearly submerged in the stinky water while it remains completely ignored by the development authorities of the state.
The 40-metre-long and 9-metre-wide fountain structure was set up on the very facet of the Mir Alam Lake, between Tadban to Aramghar roads.

Equipped with music and multimedia effects, the fountain was launched by the Telangana municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao, in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and home minister Mahmood Ali on April 19, 2022.

However, the fountain worked for no more than two days and had since remained nonfunctional with overgrown bushes drowning the project into a costly dismay.
Developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the fountain was inaugurated to fascinate its viewers but the set-up ended up submerged into the water, hidden by water hyacinth with only steel poles set to fence the area left behind as its remains.
Speaking to The Siasat Daily, Ramanthapur corporator Yousuf Danish points out the fact that the fountain never was lit up more than two days post-inauguration.
Pointing to the encroachments around the tank, Yousuf says that no measures have been taken by the state government to safeguard its investment.
Back then, authorities laid a separate drainage line to divert the sewerage water from the colonies of Hassannagar and surroundings into Musi. However, it seems like the pollution control measure haven’t worked out.

Though the Telangana government have taken up the task of beautification around the lake, maintenance with regular checks is essential.

Smuggled gold worth Rs 10 cr seized at Mumbai airport; 18 Sudanese among 19 held

Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a gold smuggling racket and arrested 18 Sudanese women as well as an Indian woman with 16.36 kg of the yellow metal in paste form valued at Rs 10.16 crore at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, an official said on Tuesday.
In a follow up search at related premises 1.42 kg of gold valued approximately at Rs 85 lakh along with foreign currency worth Rs 16 lakh and Indian notes of Rs 88 lakh were also recovered, he said.
Based on specific intelligence that gold in paste form is going to be smuggled into India by a syndicate of passengers travelling from the UAE to Mumbai on Monday, DRI officials mounted a surveillance at the city airport, the official said.

Passengers suspected to be part of the syndicate travelling in three flights were identified and intercepted by a team of the DRI at the airport, he said.
During their search, the DRI recovered 16.36 kg of gold in paste form, gold cut pieces and jewellery, collectively valued at Rs 10.16 crore, said the official.
Eighteen women from Sudan carrying the smuggled gold and an Indian woman who was coordinating the movement of the passengers were arrested, he said.
Most of the recovered gold was found concealed on the body of the suspect passengers, making it extremely difficult to detect the precious metal, said the official, adding further probe was underway.
