    Telangana: 6 held for breaking into houses, theft; items worth 32L recovered

    Hyderabad: Six house breakers were arrested by the Central Crime Station Police of Bhongir and Mothkur on Monday.

    The accused have been identified as Bodige Ashok, 36, Gundeboina Chandram, 29, Noothy Sathish, 38, Bairavoni Swamy, 35, Bade Balakrishna, 35, Gandasiri Upendar, 32.

    50 tolas of gold ornaments, 2.5 kg silver ornaments, 2 bikes, and 9 cell phones all worth Rs 32, 83,000 were recovered from the accused.

    As per the information from reliable sources four police teams, were stationed at Bodige Ashok’s house at Valigonda village for quite some time. Ashok was arrested and confessed to offences committed by him along with Chandram and Upendar, in 34 cases. Subsequently the other accused were arrested from their hometowns.

    According to the press release by the police, two of the accused (Ashok and Upendar) are habitual house-breaking offenders.

    Ashok, Chandram and Sathish started breaking into houses in the year 2007 and were sent to judicial remand by Hayatnagar police. However, they returned to their old ways after being released.

    In 2019, they were arrested again by the Nalgonda police and sent to judicial custody.

    In 2020, Swamy, Balakrishna and Upendar joined the trio. The six accused broke into houses at night in Mothkur, Athmakur, Valigonda, Addagudur, Ramannapeta, Yadagirigutta, Rajhapata police station limits of Rachakonda Commissionerate, and Nalgonda, Mahaboobabad districts.

    Ashok and Chandram were arrested by Munugode police and sent to judicial custody while Sathish, Swamy, Balakrishna and Upendar continued their offences in Rachakonda Commissionerate and Nalgonda districts, police added further.

    The accused are habitual offenders who targetted isolated roadside houses in nine villages. After consuming liquor, they broke into locked houses and robbed them.

    While three broke into the houses using an iron rod, 2 lurked outside to keep a watch.

    New Delhi: The Indian customs officials have confiscated 1,749 grams of smuggled gold worth more than Rs 80,97,625 hidden in a mixer from a passenger travelling from Oman.

    The undeclared gold was confiscated from an Indian passenger arriving from Oman at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

    “@AirportGenCus have arrested one Indian national passenger returning from Muscat after 6 irregular shaped gold pieces weighing around 1749 gms valued at Rs 85.5 lakhs was found concealed in a mixer,” Delhi Customs tweeted on January 19.

    “The said smuggled gold has been seized and further investigation is on,” Delhi Customs added.

    Officials regularly catch passengers trying to smuggle gold into the country.

    On December 31, Indian customs officials confiscated nearly 1,947 grams of gold from a passenger who was travelling to Delhi from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

    The Vanakalm season concluded after 94 days. It began on October 21 last year.

    Consumer Affairs Food & Civil Supplies Minister G Kamalakar said on Saturday that those who harvested late during the season can still procure till Tuesday, January 24.

    According to the minister, 7,024 procurement centers were set up ensuring no farmer should be left behind.

    “Considering the hardships faced by farmers from remote areas in transporting their stocks, procurement centers were set up within their reach. Already, 12,700 crores were deposited into the farmer’s account and the balance will be credited in a week,” he said in a meeting with officials.

    Nizamabad stood first with 5.86 lakh metric tonnes of procured paddy followed by 4.75 lakh metric tonnes from Kamareddy and 4.13 lakh metric tonnes from Nalgonda.

    The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed two separate operations by customs officials result in the seizure of 61 kg of gold valued at Rs 32 crore, an official said on Sunday, making it the department’s greatest value seizure at an airport in a single day, according to reports.

    An official who said that the seizures conducted on Friday resulted in the arrest of at least seven travellers, including five men and two women.

    He claimed that this was the largest single-day seizure in the history of the Mumbai airport customs.

    Four Indians returning from Tanzania were found carrying 1 kg gold bars in the first operation; the bars were hidden inside specially made belts with numerous pockets, the officer said according to the report.

    News agency PTI quoted an official who said that officials found 53 kg of UAE-made gold bars worth Rs 28.17 crore hidden within the passengers’ torso-hugging belts.

    According to the official, a Sudanese national at Doha Airport gave the travellers their belts during the transit period.

    He said a court had taken the four travellers into jail and remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody. Similarly, he added that three passengers who had come from Dubai had 8 kilogramme of gold worth Rs 3.88 crore seized from them by customs officials.

    He said that the trio, which included two ladies, was carrying waxy gold dust. The official said that the gold was cleverly hidden in the waistband of the travellers’ jeans.

    He added that the trio were detained and remanded to judicial custody, and that one of the women was in her late 60s and using a wheelchair.

    In a joint operation with Delhi police, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) apprehended an Afghan national and confiscated 8 kg of heroin worth 56 crore from the Lajpat Nagar area of Delhi late Thursday, officials said on Friday.

    The arrested accused has been identified as Hakmatullah Noorullah alias Aman.

    Sunil Joshi, SP (Operations) ATS, stated that on October 8, this year, the ATS team, along with the Indian Coast Guard, intercepted a Pakistani boat (Sakar) near Jakhau Coast in Gujarat carrying 50 kilogrammes heroin worth 350 crore and arrested six Pakistan nationals, according to report on Hindustan Times.

    During their interrogation, it was discovered that Hakmatullah, who had been in India on a tourist visa for almost four years, was to receive the package, according to Joshi.

    “After we nabbed Hakmatullah, he confessed about 8 kg heroin he was hiding in a car,” Joshi was quoted by HT.

    “We have seized the heroin and are investigating the case. We are also looking for other suspects who were roped in for transportation of the contraband after it landed on the Gujarat sea coast,” he added.
