Google may be working on new AI-powered search engine: Report

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Amidst rising competition from Microsoft and OpenAI, Google is reportedly developing an all-new AI-powered search engine, the media reported.

The company is currently in the early phases of developing a search service that aims to provide a highly personalised experience by anticipating the users’ needs, reports Engadget.

However, the project has “no clear timetable”.

    MS Education Academy

The New York Times first reported the news.

Moreover, the report mentioned that Google is also developing a suite of new AI features for its existing search engine under the codename “Magi”.

Among the features the tech giant is working on is a chatbot that can answer software engineering inquiries and create code snippets.

The company has also tested a function that would allow users to search for music via a chatbot conversation.

“We’ve been bringing AI to Google Search for years to not only dramatically improve the quality of our results, but also introduce entirely new ways to search, such as Lens and multisearch,” a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying.

“We’ve done so in a responsible and helpful way that maintains the high bar we set for delivering quality information. Not every brainstorm deck or product idea leads to a launch, but as we’ve said before, we’re excited about bringing new AI-powered features to Search, and will share more details soon,” it added.

Other new features “in various stages of development” include a Chrome feature called “Searchalong”, which will enable a chatbot to scan the webpage you’re reading and provide contextual information, according to the report.

Further, the report said that Google plans to announce “Magi” next month before introducing additional new features sometime in the fall.

  • India hosts first joint working group meeting on Chabahar port

India hosts first joint working group meeting on Chabahar port

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: At their first joint working group meeting on the Chabahar port, India and the central Asian nations reaffirmed that connectivity initiatives should comply with global norms, transparency, local priorities, financial sustainability and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.

The comments, mentioned in a joint statement released on Friday following the meeting hosted by India in Mumbai on April 12 and 13, came amid growing global criticism of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The statement said the participants at the meeting noted that further development of regional connectivity is essential for enhancing trade and commerce between India and the central Asian countries in the context of their land-locked nature and lack of overland connectivity with India.

    MS Education Academy

The mention of “lack of overland connectivity with India” is being seen as an indirect reference to Pakistan’s reluctance to grant New Delhi transit access to Afghanistan and beyond.

India has been pushing for the Chabahar port project to boost regional trade, especially for its connectivity to Afghanistan.

At the meeting, the country representative for the UN World Food Programme (UNWFP) made a presentation on the ongoing cooperation between India and the UNWFP in Afghanistan for the delivery of wheat assistance.

The statement said the consul general of Afghanistan emphasised the significance of the Chabahar port for the delivery of humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people and providing economic opportunities for Afghan businessmen and traders.

Located in the Sistan-Balochistan province on the energy-rich Iran’s southern coast, the Chabahar port is being developed by India and Iran to boost connectivity and trade ties.

The first meeting of the India-Central Asia Joint Working Group (JWG) on the Chabahar port was chaired by Dammu Ravi, the Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and attended by deputy ministers and senior officials from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The special invitees to the event were the country representative of the UNWFP, the deputy foreign minister of Iran and the consul general of Afghanistan, according to the statement.

It said the participants “reaffirmed that the connectivity initiatives should conform with international norms, the rule of law, respect for international commitments, and are based on mutually-agreed principles of sustainable connectivity, transparency, broad participation, local priorities, financial sustainability and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries”.

China has been facing criticism of creating debt traps for a number of countries while pushing projects under the BRI. Several African countries are finding it difficult to repay the loans provided by China for BRI projects.

The statement said the participants at the joint working group meeting also emphasised that connectivity projects deserve priority attention and could be a force multiplier for trade and economic cooperation and contacts between countries and people.

The statement said the participants agreed that connectivity requires the private sector’s active participation.

“In order to facilitate large-scale private investments in sustainable connectivity, the sides expressed their commitment to implement relevant international standards, to ensure a level-playing field for companies and to ensure reciprocal access to markets,” it said.

During the meeting, the managing director of India Ports Global Limited (IPGL) gave a comprehensive presentation on the facilities and current operations at the Shahid Behesti terminal at the Chabahar port. IPGL is currently operating the terminal.

“The Country Representative for UNWFP made a presentation on the ongoing cooperation between India and UNWFP in Afghanistan for the delivery of wheat assistance. The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan emphasised the significance of Chabahar Port for the delivery of humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people and providing economic opportunities for the Afghan businessmen and traders,” the joint statement said.

At the meeting, the deputy foreign minister of Iran proposed to hold the next round of the India-Central Asia Joint Working Group (JWG) deliberations in his country, along with the participation of the private sector. The participants welcomed the proposal.

  • Government working to fulfil Swami Vivekananda’s visions: Modi

Government working to fulfil Swami Vivekananda’s visions: Modi

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the government is working to fulfil the visions of Swami Vivekananda.

Speaking at the 125th anniversary of the Sri Ramakrishna Math at the Vivekananda House here, Modi said “Swami Vivekananda’s vision was to have faith in ourselves and our governance philosophy is inspired by Swamiji”.

Swami Vivekananda had said that the society progresses whenever privileges are broken and equality is ensured, and the same vision is there in all the flagship programmes of the government, the Prime Minister said.

    MS Education Academy

“Earlier, even basic facilities were treated like privileges and many people were denied the fruit of progress. Only a small group was allowed access to it. However, the situation has changed, for instance the Mudra Yojana that is celebrating its eighth anniversary on Saturday,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, Tamil Nadu is a leader in Mudra Yojana with nearly 38 crore collateral free loans given to small entrepreneurs.

Similarly, electricity, toilets, houses, cooking gas and other facilities are being made available to all, Modi said.

Citing many experts saying this is India’s century, Modi said the country now engages with the world from the position of confidence and with mutual respect.

On women’s empowerment, Modi said India believes in women-led development.

Swami Vivekananda believed that sports and fitness are important for a person’s character development and in India, Yoga and Fit India have become mass movements, he said.

On the education side, Modi said the New Education Policy brought in by the government has ushered in new reforms.

“If 140 crore Indians focus on the five ideas – goal of a developed India, removing any traces of colonial mindset, celebrating heritage, strengthening unity and focusing on our duties – there will be an inclusive India by 2047,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also said the Ramakrishna Math has played an important role in his life and he respects the institution deeply.

Quoting Tamil Saint Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukural, Modi said that in this world and in the world of Gods, there is nothing like kindness and the Ramakrishna Math embodies that and is serving Tamil Nadu in the fields of education, healthcare, and rural development, among others.

Modi also said that he loves the vibe of Chennai, Tamil language and culture.

While the Math came to Chennai later, what came first was the impact of Tamil Nadu on Swami Vivekananda as while meditating on the famous rock in Kanyakumari, he had discovered the purpose of his life, Modi said.

“After Vivekananda’s visit to the western countries, he first set foot on the holy sand of Tamil Nadu. Though he hailed from Bengal, he was welcomed in Tamil Nadu like a hero which in turn signifies that India is one,” the Prime Minister said.

When Swamiji came to Chennai, 17 victory arches were erected and for a week the life in the city came to a standstill and it was like a festival, Modi said.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and other dignitaries took part in the event.
