Hyderabad: Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) have demanded justice for the Swiggy delivery boy who lost his life in a tragic road accident on May 5.

Raju, 31, a resident of the Gandhi colony met with a fatal road accident while delivering food in Alwal of Hyderabad following which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. However, he soon succumbed to his injuries.

Being the only earning member of his family, Raju was survived by an old and ailing mother, a wife, and two small children.

Additionally, Raju was also paying for his wife, Soni Rasapuram’s education who is studying first year of B.Ed.

Soon after the accident, the family tried to contact the management at Swiggy. However, they ended up receiving a computer-generated response with none from the company reaching out to the family so far.

TGPWU’s founder and president, Shaik Salauddin who visited the bereaved family on Monday said, “Raju’s death stands completely ignored by the company. The family was left distressed.”

The union has promised the family to step in and negotiate with Swiggy while they demand Rs 25 lakh as compensation in case of death under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 (which is to compensate workers who have encountered injuries due to an accident during their employment).

TGPWU has further demanded that police should file an FIR against the person who had hit Raju in the accident and also facilitate compensation from the accused to Raju’s family.

    Accident on May 5

The incident reportedly occurred at night when a speeding car from Kanaji Guda hit a person, and then continued to run until a high-tension pole made it stop.

The incident caused injuries to three people, including Raju who was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Police identified the driver as a software employee who accelerated her car by mistake, while she was supposed to hit the brake to avoid hitting a man who came in front of the car, ending up in a major accident.

MP: Bajrang Dal attacks Congress workers, wreaks havoc in Jabalpur party office

    [ad_1]

Hindutva organisation Bajrang Dal members entered the Congress party office and vandalised as well as attacked party members in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.

Ever since the Congress Karnataka unit declared to ban Bajrang Dal in its manifesto if voted to power, a similar demand has emerged in Madhya Pradesh.

According to local reports, more than a dozen Bajrang Dal members entered the Congress party office shouting Jai Shree Ram carrying large sticks and faces covered with saffron cloths.

They damaged the roof and threw stones at the office.

Condemning the attack, Jabalpur Congress Dinesh Yadav compared the act to impotence. “This is not a protest. It is impotence. The police are also to be blamed for not acting swiftly,” he said.

Another Congress leader Anand Jat said that the true face of Bajrang Dal was exposed to the public. “This is absolute hooliganism and anti-social activity. The BJP will lose the elections here,” he said.

On May 2, the Congress party released its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka promising to ban the Hindutva organisation Bajrang Dal if voted to power.

It identified and compared Bajrang Dal to the same lengths as the banned Islamic organisation PFI (Popular Front of India).

It created a stir in Karnataka politics as well as outside with many leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and RSS charging that the Congress is a threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

“This is the last election for the Congress party. If they are defeated, they will go straight to their houses. This is a do-or-die situation for them. It is indeed a dying situation for Congress,” Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai slammed the Congress party.

Pune NCP workers, functionaries break down, urge Pawar to withdraw resignation

    [ad_1]

Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers and functionaries in Pune on Tuesday evening urged party president Sharad Pawar to immediately withdraw his resignation from the top post as they broke down on coming to know about his sudden announcement.

They said they will resign en masse if Pawar (82), whose hometown Baramati is located in Pune district in western Maharashtra, does not take back his resignation which was announced in Mumbai in the afternoon.

Pradeep Deshmukh, Pune NCP spokesperson, said after the news of Pawar’s resignation trickled in, hundreds of workers gathered at the party office in the city and could not stop their tears.

    MS Education Academy

He said the NCP is like a family, where Pawar is a father figure and such leaders do not retire.

“If Pawar saheb does not reverse his decision, party workers and office-bearers will remain firm on their resignation,” Deshmukh said.

Meanwhile, Vitthal Maniyar, an aide of Pawar, said the former Union minister’s move to step down as president of the party he founded in 1999 was not abrupt or sudden.

“Pawar saheb might have thought deeply before coming to this decision. He must be thinking of handing over the responsibility to the next team and making them ready while he is still active,” he said.

“Though Pawar saheb has sought time (to rethink his resignation), I am sure it was a well though out decision and he will convince party leaders to accept it,” Maniyar stated.

“Saheb has not given up politics or social work. Whether he is party chief or not, he will continue to work with the same gusto with which he was working till now,” he said.

Asked about Pawar’s possible successor if he stays firm on his decision to quit the top party post, Maniyar said the veteran politician believes in democratic functioning of the party and any decision on the issue will be taken unanimously.
