G-20 Summit: CS Conducts City Tour; Directs For Accelerating Pace Of Work

SRINAGAR: In order to take stock of developmental works being carried out in view of hosting G-20 at Srinagar and preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr, the Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Thursday conducted an extensive tour of the Srinagar city to make on spot appraisal of ongoing developmental works.
The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; Commissioner SMC & CEO Srinagar Smart City; VC Lakes Conservation and Management Authority; Chief Engineer Srinagar Smart City Ltd and other officers from line departments besides from Police and Traffic departments.
During the tour, the Chief Secretary visited IG Road, Jhelum Riverfront Development Project, Residency Road, Maulana Azad Road, Gupkar Junction, Boulevard Footpath, Nishat Garden precinct, Northern Foreshore Road including cycle track, Shalimar Canal and DargahHazratbal Shrine.
Dr Mehta while taking stock of the works carried out at all these locations directed the concerned officers to further accelerate the pace of work and ensure completion of all these projects within fixed deadlines.
He also directed to make all necessary arrangements for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival including sanitation, cleaning, traffic management etc.
Reviewing the progress of Dal Lake cleansing at Nishat precinct, the Chief Secretary directed the VC, LC&MA to expedite the Houseboat sewerage connections and cleanliness of remaining patches of Dal with special focus on shoreline. He also directed him to start water sports activities in Hazratbal basin by 15th of May.
The VC, LC&MA apprised the Chief Secretary that the EOI is being floated by I&FC and Tourism Departments shortly. He further revealed that the activities identified for water sports include Waterpark, Jet skies, Zorbing balls, Parasailing etc.
Later, Dr Mehta visited Hazratbal Shrine where he gave necessary directions to the concerned officers for face-lifting of compound wall and other make-over works for the comfort of the devotees.

Saudi Arabia announces new three-month temporary work visa

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has introduce a new three-month temporary work visa service, local media reported.
The visa enables companies to issue a temporary work visa, whose holder can work for a period of three months from the date of entry, according to the Qiwa platform.
The visa can also be extended for a similar period. Foreign nationals applying for this visa do not need to obtain a residence or work permit.

The visa application must be submitted by the employer or authorized representative of Qiwa.
The regulations for the temporary work visa service require that the organization must be active and have a valid commercial registration, except for activities that do not require a commercial registration.
In addition, enterprises with the same unified number must have no expired work permit and have sufficient balance in the enterprise’s national unified number in the Absher account.
The temporary work visa is issued by Qiwa immediately and requires no documents.
The visa is electronic and valid within one year.

To apply online for a temporary work visa, the applicant must follow these steps
Select the temporary work visa service from e-services.
Then, complete all the required fields and submit the request.
Reasons given for the rejection of a request for the temporary visa include an insufficient balance in the unified number of the enterprise on Absher and rejection from the Ministry of the Interior.
The temporary work visa balance package can be cancelled and government fees refunded.
The cancellation request must be submitted by the business owner or a commissioner, the platform pointed out.

LinkedIn introduces new ways to verify identity, work

San Francisco: Professional networking platform LinkedIn has introduced new ways to verify your identity and where you work as part of verification, which will be free for all members.
“Starting today, we’re rolling out three additional ways to verify your identity and where you work. We believe verification should be for everyone on LinkedIn, that’s why every feature will be available and free to all our members,” LinkedIn said in a blogpost.
LinkedIn is partnering with CLEAR, a secure identity platform, to provide verification for its members in the US.

Starting this month, users can display on their profile that they verified their identity with CLEAR and to do so, all they need is a US government-issued ID and phone number.
Another way includes verifying “where you work with your company email”.
Users now can verify where they work using their company-issued email addresses.
According to the company, around 50 million members globally are on LinkedIn, and there are over 4,000 companies, and this is one more way to demonstrate the authenticity of your profile.
The company said that it will be rolling this feature out to more companies and expanding eligibility.

Moreover, LinkedIn members can also verify where they work with Microsoft Entra.
The company is partnering with Microsoft to allow organisations to leverage the Microsoft Entra Verified ID platform to issue digital workplace IDs for free, enabling workers to display the verification on their LinkedIn profiles.
The feature will be rolling out at the end of April, and the company plans to make this available to dozens of participating companies reaching more than two million LinkedIn members.

The 5 best — and worst — places to work in the U.S. government, according to federal workers

The rankings below are for what the survey calls “large agencies,” meaning organizations with 15,000 or more employees. Findings were organized by each of the 17 large agencies’ overall rank, as well as how each one fared in different categories.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has the top overall score and came in first in several categories such as pay and effective leadership, but trails behind the Intelligence Community for work-life balance.
Meanwhile, Department of Health and Human Services snagged second place in the overall rankings but was fourth place in pay and in two diversity and equity subcategories — NASA secured the top spot in those subgroups.
The Intelligence Community secured third overall, but was fifth in the performance: agency subcategory and fourth in effective leadership: supervisors. NASA again secured the top spot in both those subcategories.
The Department of Commerce placed fourth overall but was in 12th place for effective leadership: empowerment, 11th place for innovation, ninth for work-life balance and eighth for pay.
Rounding out the top five in overall rankings is the Department of Veterans Affairs. Despite the high score, the agency placed 12th for effective leadership: supervisors, 11th for work-life balance and eighth for innovation.

Security guard duped of Rs 40,000 on pretext of being given work as ‘playboy’

New Delhi: “Do you want to become a playboy and make quick money?” When Prakash, a security guard in Delhi, received this message from a girl he had come across on Facebook, he thought it was a good way to earn some extra bucks, unmindful that it could be a trap to extract money from him.
He readily agreed to pay the initial charges to get himself registered with a firm for the job. The girl initially asked him to pay Rs 1,000 as registration fee which he transferred from Paytm to a Standard Chartered bank account of a man.
By the time Prakash realised it was a trap and approached police, he had lost Rs 40,000.

A complaint was lodged at Shahdara police station, based on which an FIR was registered.
“Instead of offering me any playboy job, she again called me and asked me to pay some more money for other file formalities. I didn’t realise that she was fooling me and extracting money from one pretext or the other,” he said.
Prakash, a security guard in Anand Vihar in east Delhi, came in contact with the girl in March through Facebook. He said he saw a recruitment advertisement on Facebook and “clicked on the link. I provided my phone number and other details such as my present profile, etc.”
He immediately got a call from a girl who introduced himself as a resident of Defence Colony. “I was doubtful because the truecaller address showed that she was from Connaught Place but she convinced me that it was a genuine agency which hires men for playboy jobs,” he said, according to the police FIR.
A police officer said, “In the initial investigation, the police found out that the call was made from Nehru Place…. We are also trying to find out the account details to which he transferred the money.”
