In run-up to Karnataka polls, Rahul minces no words to target BJP over Adani issue

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The campaigning for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls that ended on Monday has witnessed former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi not mincing any words to target the BJP government at the Centre over the Adani issue, besides raising the “issues of corruption under the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government” in the poll-bound state.

The issue around Adani Group gained momentum earlier this year in January when US-based short seller Hindenburg alleged stock manipulation and fraud by the conglomerate.

The Adani Group has attacked Hindenburg as “an unethical short seller” and stated that the report by the New York-based entity was “nothing but a lie”.

    MS Education Academy

Rahul Gandhi, who kicked off his campaign trail from Karnataka’s Kolar on April 16, first raised the issue of the Adani Group in his public meeting.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha for his Modi surname remarks he made in Kolar in April 2019 during the Lok Sabha elections campaigning.

He was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP on March 23 this year following his conviction in a defamation case by a Surat court.

Rahul Gandhi raised issues around the Adani Group during his public meetings in Kolar, Humnabad, Vijaypura, Hanjal, Anekal and Mangaluru, besides other issues.

In his speech, Rahul Gandhi said: “They (BJP) do not want me to talk in Parliament. They are afraid that I will raise questions on Adani. They disqualified me from Parliament thinking that I would remain silent and I would be scared. I am not scared. I will again ask the Prime Minister.”

He had said: “Till I get answers, I will not stop. Disqualify me or put me in jail. It will not affect me.”

“In Parliament, I questioned the Prime Minister about his relationship with Adani. First, they switched off my mike and later BJP ministers told lies about me. When I sought to respond as per the right of a member, the Speaker did not allow me. They do not want me to speak in Parliament and hence disqualified me,” Rahul Gandhi had said in his speech in Kolar.

Rahul Gandhi, who addressed 23 public meetings and road shows in poll-bound Karnataka, also highlighted the alleged corruption rampant under the ruling BJP government in the state.

In his every public meeting in the state, he targeted the BJP government over the alleged ’40 per cent commission’ issue.

While addressing a public meeting in Karnataka’s Anekal on May 7, Rahul Gandhi targeted the BJP and said: “For the last three years, there is a BJP government in Karnataka and the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) is aware of corruption here. You only call it a ‘double engine government’. This time, the double engine is stolen.”

“PM Modi, please tell the people of Karnataka, which engine got how much out of 40 per cent commission,” he asked the Prime Minister while addressing a public meeting in Anekal on May 7.

He said that the contractors’ association in Karnataka wrote to the Prime Minister that 40 per cent commission was charged from them but Modi did not reply.

The Congress in Karnataka had designed its campaigning highlighting the corruption in the state government and also launched the PayCM campaign in the run-up to assembly polls.

Rahul Gandhi also highlighted the four promises, which are declared as guarantees for the people of Karnataka, which include — Gruha Jyothi (200 units of free electricity), Gruha Lakshmi-Rs 2,000 monthly to every woman head of the family, Anna Bhagya-10 kg of food grains of their choice (among rice, ragi, jowar, millet) to every person in a BPL family.

Rahul Gandhi also announced to provide free travel to all women in regular Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses.

Even his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too held 26 public meetings and road shows in the state, while Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed 36 public meetings and four press conferences in the poll-bound state.

Kharge, who also hails from Karnataka, has camped in the poll-bound state since April 16 to ensure the victory of the party.

Karnataka Congress in-charge and party general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala had also been camping in the state for last two and half months and had succeeded in keeping the Congress flock together.

Even former Congress president Sonia Gandhi addressed a public meeting in Hubballi on May 6, her first electoral public meeting after a gap of four years.

Polling for the 224-member Assembly is scheduled on May 10 and counting of votes will take place on May 13.

  • India needs to do more than strong words on border situation with China

India needs to do more than strong words on border situation with China

    [ad_1]

After the meeting of Indiana and Chinese defense ministers on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ( SCO), in which the two sides failed to agree on the future of the situation in eastern Ladakh, which has caused a lot of consternation and tension on both sides, makes it mandatory for Delhi to reassess the crisis and tools for its resolution.

As usual, there was a lot of hype ahead of the meeting of visiting Chinese defense minister Li Shangfu and his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh, on  April 27, 2023, that the two sides could approach the matter of over three-year-long military standoff in the mountains and desert of eastern Ladakh with more pragmatism. Some of the optimists were hoping, in whispers though, for a breakthrough in the border situation. It was a difficult, though not impossible to deliberate on the standoff and the ways to end it . But the outcome has left neither side satisfied. Worse, they are looking at continuation of the crisis which has a potential of the geo-political stability, which already is on cutches.

India, as articulated by Rajnath Singh, during the meeting, “categorically conveyed that development of relations between India and China is premised on the prevalence of peace  and tranquility at the borders.” There was an addition of a very strong point, in which the Indian minister said that “all issues  at the LAC need to be resolved in accordance with the existing bilateral agreements and commitments., “ and he went on to remind the Chinese side and reiterated that the “ violation of existing agreements  has  eroded the entire basis of the  bilateral  relations and disengagement  at the border will logically  be followed with de-escalation.”

    MS Education Academy

This was both an assertion of the Indian territory in eastern Ladakh and also a charge against Beijing, which traversed beyond the issue staring at the border. This also reflected that how the two Asian giants were losing the grand opportunity of fostering better bilateral relations because of   China’s moves to unilaterally change the status of the LAC.

China was told that enough is enough and it will have to do more to ease the situation, and the first task is to go back to the letter and spirit of the agreements of maintaining peace and tranquility on borders.  The agreement signed on September 7, 1993, between India and China had worked out a mechanism in which neither side would cross the LAC nor create any threatening situation. This agreement had, by and large been held, despite certain skirmishes and face-off situations until April 2020 when Chinese troops gathered in huge numbers with their war machinery and militarily threatening exercises. This was in complete violation of the agreement.

Chinese, on the other side, as it came out after the April 27 meeting, did not agree with the perception and the assessment of the border situation, and they believed that whatever has been done till date, in terms of disengagement and de-escalation at the LAC in eastern Ladakh, doesn’t require any further action , completely ignoring the fact that tensions continued to persist. There were at least two major friction points – Despang and Demchok  where disengagement and de-escalation are pending.

Li Shangfu, however, as per the readout issued by China’s Ministry of  Defense on Friday, said that the “ Common interest between China and  India prevails over discrepancies, thus both sides should view bilateral ties and their development in a comprehensive, long-term and strategic way. The two countries should bring  the border situation under the normalized management   and to jointly enhance mutual trust  between the two armies.” The not-s-hidden meaning of this statement is that India should accept the LAC situation as it is now, keeping all the changes that might have occurred since April 2020, out of the bilateral relations or future talks on the subject.

China is asking India, this is what is clear from Shagfu’s statement that the two countries should move ahead in their bilateral relations and treat the current border situation as normal. In short, it translates into, heads I win and tails you lose attitude articulated by China.

This is a serious proposition by China. It has put ball in the court of India , leaving Delhi with two choices whether you accept what is there and move ahead in the bilateral relations, or you wait and watch till the time China decides something else on the issue. It is a grave situation – India cannot accept it either.

This also poses tremendous challenge to Indian policymakers and strategists.  The first and foremost things is that India should reassess the whole situation, draw its own roadmap of the solution it wants, and deliberate on the ways how to approach China in a manner in which there is no escalation and still the results can be achieved. While doing so, India will have to factor in the rising international profile of China, after it brokered agreement between Saudi Arabia and  Iran, and now its efforts to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine. The US might offer help to India, but that would also be a  self-trap for India. It should dig into the history, maintain strong diplomatic position and the best way would be to convey a  message to Beijing that the current situation would hurt  China as well. That demands strong words to be backed by great homework and action  as per requirement of the situation.

  • Choose your words, rehearse and why less is more: how to do pillow talk well

Choose your words, rehearse and why less is more: how to do pillow talk well

    [ad_1]

The best sex I’ve ever had was with a man with superb oral skills. He could talk about sex so intoxicatingly I ended up moving in with him – and I’m still with him to this day. Expressing your desires with words is an art, while technology – voicenotes, texts, emails, and calls – offers a multitude of ways to communicate more compellingly than actual nudes.

According to a UK poll by condom brand Durex, one in five sexually active women and one in four men find sexting uncomfortable, or would never do it. To that end, it’s important to understand that some words might excite one person but turn off another. “My partner told me never to use the word ‘damp’ when talking dirty,” a friend, James, 43, tells me. The wrong word can do more than spoil a mood, it can be triggering, cause offence or even trauma. Due to the influence of porn, it can be easy to assume that erotic talk can involve humiliation, when in fact using “whore” or “slut” are simply degrading.

Sex educator and tutor of the Dirty Talk and Consent in Conversation workshop, Lola Jean, suggests casually chatting about names you do/don’t like yourself and your body parts to be called, as well as physical and non-physical compliments you enjoy, before you venture into anything proper.

If that feels awkward, sending texts or even voicenotes can be a less intimidating way of starting a sultry conversation; you can take your time composing what you want to say, and simply delete and do over if it doesn’t land. Try opening a sext session with options, including an elegant opt-out: “Would you rather tell me what you’d do to me if I was with you right now – or make time to talk later?”

This puts both parties at ease, and the chat on ice if they’re with their boss/mum, and means you won’t risk feeling rebuffed, especially if it’s taken a lot of guts to press send in the first place. You’re just being rescheduled for when they can give you the full attention you deserve; and you’re respectfully showing that you don’t expect them to simply down tools there and then.

Once you’ve built up a repository of texts, sex blogger and audio erotica producer Girl on the Net recommends reading them aloud while you’re alone, to practise for face-to-face delivery. “Recite them in front of a mirror to perfect your sexy smile at the same time, to begin feeling more comfy and less silly about what’s coming out of your mouth,” she says.

Rosy Pendlebaby is director of Revolting Arts Club, which runs a variety of sex-focused classes. She thinks the issue is that many people feel insufficiently creative to invent imaginative storylines about heaving bosoms and thick thighs out of thin air, or to come up with complex roleplay characters then act them out. Voicing fantasies can also feel exposing and high stakes, if you’re worried that your dream of, say, going down on your partner in public will go down like the proverbial lead balloon. Instead, kicking things off by recounting shared past experiences – “Do you remember when we …” – can feel more accessible and less pressured.

“If you’re usually quiet in bed and new to in-person pillow talk, start off slowly and don’t expect to be able to weave masterpieces with your horny words from the off,” advises Girl on the Net. “Introduce speech with a few keywords, like ‘more’, ‘yes’, ‘please’, ‘that’s so good’; then build from there.”

You don’t need to keep up a constant stream of chatter. Moments of silence not only give you the chance to think, but can build tension and give an aura of power and control, if that’s a dynamic you’re into.

But above all, don’t take it too seriously. The idea of a partner laughing at something you intended to be sexy might seem horrifying. “But it’s OK for dirty talk to be playful and silly, nobody gets it right every time,” says Pendlebaby. “Correct slips with warmth and kindness, and get on with having fun.”

Delhi: Cops told not to use complex Urdu, Persian words in FIR

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has issued an order directing the police staff not to use complex Urdu and Persian words while registering FIRs, diaries or chargesheets.

A list of 383 complex words with simpler alternatives in Hindi and English has been prepared by the department and shared with officers.

The Commissioner of Police, while citing directions given by Delhi High Court in 2019 to the Delhi Police to avoid using complicated Urdu and Persian words, has asked police staff to use simple words that are easily understood by all parties involved.

    MS Education Academy

“Despite issuing the above instructions, it is observed that the compliance with the above instructions is not satisfactory. Archaic Urdu/Persian words are still being used by the investigating officer while registering the FIR as well as while preparing the diary list and chargesheet etc,” the police chief said.

Arora, issuing a circular in this regard, directed the police officers to ensure the maximum use of simpler words in FIRs.

“Non-compliance with the above instructions will be viewed seriously, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” the order read.

The Delhi police chief, along with the orders, also shared a list of 383 complex words in Urdu which are most commonly used in the FIRs or chargesheets. With every Urdu word, he gave an alternative word in Hindi or English which can be used from now on.

  • War of words between ministers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

War of words between ministers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A war of words broke out between ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday following some remarks by Telangana’s Finance Minister T. Harish Rao about the conditions in the neighbouring state.

Defending his comments made while addressing workers from Andhra Pradesh settled in Sangareddy on Tuesday, Harish Rao lashed out at both the ruling and main opposition parties of Andhra Pradesh for ignoring the interests of people.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader questioned the silence of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on special category status to Andhra Pradesh and the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by the Centre.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the BRS Athmeeya Sammelanam in Andole on Wednesday, the minister slammed both the parties for not questioning the Centre over its failure to fulfill commitment made to Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation of the state.

Harish Rao said both the YSRCP and the TDP were competing with each other to be in the good books of the BJP-led Union government and hence not raising their voice for special status to Andhra Pradesh, which was a promise made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. He said both the parties were silent on the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant issue too.

Addressing a programme at Sangareddy on Tuesday, Harish Rao had asked construction workers, who arrived from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana, to enroll as voters here because the state had much better facilities.

Some ministers in Andhra Pradesh took objection to comments made by Harish Rao and asked him what is there in Telangana.

Countering the Andhra ministers, Harish Rao asked them to come and experience Telangana instead of throwing mud and making unnecessary comments against the state.

“Let them come and experience for themselves what is here. Telangana has paddy crops on 56 lakh acres, which was half of the total paddy cultivation in India in the Yasangi season. Telangana is also giving Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Kalyana Lakshmi, round-the-clock free power supply, KCR Kit and many other schemes, which the Andhra Pradesh government could not even dare to implement,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh’s Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, however, questioned Harish Rao’s locus standi to speak about Andhra Pradesh.

“Who is Harish Rao to speak about Andhra Pradesh. Let him focus on his own state,” he said.

“Our people know how to govern the state,” he remarked. The YSRCP leader feels that Harish Rao might have made the comments for political mileage.

Ajit Pawar condemns use of unsavoury words by Maha politcians

    [ad_1]

Pune: Maharashtra Leader of Opposition and NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Monday condemned the use of unsavoury words such as “worthless” and “kartoos” (bullet) in politics and said people should follow the path shown by former chief ministers Yashwantrao Chavan, Vasantdada Patil and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

Ajit Pawar’s comment has come as an apparent jibe against former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray who dubbed Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as “worthless” and the latter’s reaction that he was “kartoos” (bullet), which will not bow down, but pierce.

“People don’t understand what to say when they get a mike their hand…We inherited good thoughts and values from former chief minister Yashwantrao Chavan, who laid the foundation for a cultured Maharashtra during the Samyukta Maharashtra movement,” the NCP leader said at an event in Satara.

He exhorted people to follow the paths shown by former chief ministers Chavan, Vasantdada Patil, Vasantrao Naik and Sharad Pawar.

“Today, all unwanted things are happening in the state. We did some work (when the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was in power), but now the work has been stalled,” Ajit Pawar said.

Shivraj-Kamal Nath’s war of words turns ugly as both fling derogatory terms at each other

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh’s two top leaders – Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress chief Kamal Nath, who have been engaged in a “question war” for over past two months, on Friday saw their verbal spat turn ugly as both used derogatory words for each other.

It all began as Chouhan, at a press meet on Friday, accused the latter of of “inciting communal violence” the state, which he termed an “island of peace” and be it Ram Navami or Hanuman Jayanti, it was celebrated not only peacefully but also with harmony in the entire state.

“But, the Congress and its top leadership want to create communal violence in Madhya Pradesh. Everyone has seen the video of 2018 when he (Kamal Nath) was found ‘instigating’ a group of Muslim voters. Will people be instigated for votes, on the basis of religions and caste? In a recent incident on Wednesday, he again said that riots are breaking out in the country and in the state,” ” he said, referring to Kamal Nath’s statement at a Roza Iftar party.

    MS Education Academy

“Kamal Nath ki voton ki bhukh itni badh gayi hai ki wo pagal ho gaye hain (Kamal Nath has become so hungry for votes that he has become mentally unbalanced),” Chouhan said, sparking off a political controversy and protests by Congress workers in Bhopal.

Hitting back, Kamal Nath said that a few days back, the CM said that he would end him (the Congress leader) and “now he is calling me ‘pagal’ (insane)”.

“The MP CM has forgotten all respect and humanity and ‘sadak chhap bhasha bol raha hai’ (speaking the vulgar language of the street).

“The whole world is watching how the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is behaving. All civilised behaviour, dignity within him have ended. He is speaking the language of street gang goons.

“I don’t care about my humiliation. I have been serving the people of Madhya Pradesh for the last 44 years and will continue to do so till my last breath. But, I am sad that a person with such frustrated thoughts is sitting on the chair of the Chief Minister of a great state like Madhya Pradesh. Such a person being the Chief Minister is an insult to the 8 crore people of the state,” Kamal Nath, a former Chief Minister, said.

  • BJP, Congress in war of words over Rahul’s remarks in UK

BJP, Congress in war of words over Rahul’s remarks in UK

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The political slugfest over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the UK intensified on Tuesday with the BJP accusing him of insulting India’s democracy from foreign land and the Congress hitting back, saying the ruling party is “rattled” whenever he speaks.

While former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Gandhi of seeking the intervention of Europe and the US in India, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that the BJP leader was distorting, twisting and lying “with a straight face”.

Addressing a press conference, Prasad expressed his party’s disapproval of Gandhi “misusing the forum of British Parliament” to “insult” India by spreading “shameful” lies and unfounded claims, and said there needed to be a “proper rebuttal”.

He accused the Congress leader of seeking to shame India’s democracy, polity, Parliament, judicial system and strategic security from a foreign land with his speeches in Britain.

If people of India do not support him and he keeps losing elections, then he should not tell lies from a foreign country to vent out his frustration, Prasad said.

The BJP leader sought reactions from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge if he “feels” that he is an elected president of the party.

He and his predecessor Sonia Gandhi should make their stand clear on Rahul Gandhi’s “utterly irresponsible” statements and whether the opposition party supports them or not, Prasad said.

Hitting back at Prasad, Ramesh tweeted, “Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad is doing what he and his Supremo do best– distort, twist, defame and lie with a straight face.”

Tagging a media report on Prasad’s remarks, Congress’ media department head Pawan Khera said on Twitter, “There is nothing more amusing than watching an unemployed leader of a ruling party trying to seek relevance and re-employment.”

“Those who have a full time job of twisting statements of opposition leaders forget their own favourite slogan ‘Ab Kii Baar, Trump Sarkaar’,” Khera said.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also hit out at the BJP over its criticism of Gandhi and said that the former Congress president made a very powerful statement as far as democratic values in India are concerned.

“There was no doubt in his mind, he said this is our problem, this is an internal problem, this is an Indian problem and we will find solutions within India,” Shrinate told reporters here at the AICC headquarters.

“He (Gandhi) also went on to say that when 140 crore people are part of your democratic system, the fate of Indian democracy impacts the fate of democracy on the planet. He is actually telling the world that India will decide the fate and direction of democracies all over the world, it is a hugely laudable statement,” she said.

“If anybody had any sense they would applaud him but instead the Modi government, its two-rupee trolls, its MLAs, MPs, ministers, out of job ministers, are all running forth as to who would stoop lower,” Shrinate said.

Each time Rahul Gandhi gives a statement, the BJP is “rattled”, she claimed.

She also said that if the BJP has issues with what he has said, it should debate all those topics he has spoken on in Parliament.

Gandhi told British parliamentarians in London on Monday that microphones in front of opposition members in Lok Sabha are often silenced.

During an event organised by veteran Indian-origin Opposition Labour Party MP Virendra Sharma within the House of Commons complex, he said opposition parties in India are often not allowed to debate issues in Parliament.

Prasad said Gandhi has forgotten all parliamentary norms, political propriety and “democratic shame” by criticising Indians from abroad.

He further said people of India neither listen nor understand him and supporting him is a distant thing.

Therefore, Gandhi goes abroad and laments that India’s democracy is in danger. This is a matter of great shame, Prasad added.

“Rahul Gandhi has insulted everything, including India’s democracy, parliament, people, political system, judicial system and strategic security,” the former Union minister said.

He also accused Gandhi of seeking the intervention of Europe and the US in India and said he had gone against the consensus in India against any interference in its internal affairs by foreign powers.

“Rahul Gandhi has tried to embarrass the country by saying that Europe and America should interfere in the internal affairs of India,” he said.

The BJP leader also slammed Rahul Gandhi for his condemnation of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), claiming that the Hindutva organisation has been serving society and the nation.

Gandhi’s remarks at various interactions in the UK have led to a war of words between the BJP and the Congress with the ruling party accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and the opposition party hitting back by citing instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raking up internal politics abroad.
