Dravidian model is for equality, women empowerment: Stalin

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The nation’s growth is in the hands of women and all-round efforts are being made by the DMK regime for their empowerment, Chief Minister M K Stalin said here on Wednesday.

The Dravidian model growth is all inclusive and it includes both men and women. Nothing is planned by excluding women, Stalin said in his International Women’s Day address at the Ethiraj College for Women.

The initiative to appoint aspirants from all castes as priests in temples includes a woman as well and that is Dravidian model.

Following the footsteps of reformist leaders, initiatives and schemes for women empowerment were being implemented by the DMK government, Stalin said and added that the nation’s growth is in the hands of women.

Equal rights for women in family properties (1989) and present increase in reservation for women in government jobs to 40 percent from 30 percent featured in a list of initiatives underlined by the Chief Minister.

The Dr Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme aimed at ensuring maternal nutrition, schemes for education, marriage assistance and remarriage and fare-free travel for women in government-run city buses were among a slew of programmes cited by Stalin.

The Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme provides Rs 1,000 financial assistance to girls till they complete their graduation, diploma or any other recognised course.

The DMK regime, under the Dravidian model of social justice-led all inclusive growth, is implementing more and more schemes for education, social justice and women’s rights, Stalin noted.

Such priority schemes of the government is leading to a giant leap forward in development. The fare-free travel in buses scheme is not a concession but a right of women, he said. “This has given socio-economic freedom for women, who say that they save between Rs 600 and Rs 1,200.”

Though women work in several fields and hold key positions, it cannot be said that they have been fully emancipated and to promote gender equality a thought-culture among men that women are inferior to them should go, he said quoting reformist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy.

Giving away prizes in literary and social work to awardees, he said that since Sangam age women have been held in esteem in Tamil Nadu and there were women poets and authors. Avvaiyar, a woman poet had clout to the extent making an intervention to avert a war between two rulers.

However, due to the ‘cultural invasion in between,’ women were subdued and to emancipate them a movement was necessitated and the Dravidian movement was born.
Recalling the services of Periyar, he said the title of ‘Periyar’ (great leader) was conferred on him in 1938 in a conference held by women.

Citing the participation of a large number of women in the meet, he said it was due to the struggle of the Dravididan movement for the rights of women.

Besides Periyar, former Chief Ministers CN Annadurai, M Karunanidhi and reformist leaders Savitribai Phule and Dr B R Ambedkar should be remembered.

In 2019, she held the position of Director General of International Organizations and Cooperation at the Saudi Arabian Human Rights Commission, and before that, she was the Assistant Secretary General at the King Abdulaziz National Dialogue Center of Saudi Arabia.

    Inas bint Ahmed Al-Shahwan

Inas al-Shahwan was sworn in as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Sweden and Iceland in April 2021. She is the third Saudi woman to be officially appointed to represent the Kingdom.

Al-Shahwan holds a master’s degree in international relations from an Australian university, as well as a degree in the Emerging Leadership Program from Harvard University.

Nasreen bint Hamad Al-Sheibel was appointed as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Finland on January 3 at al-Yamamah Palace. She swore an oath in front of King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

    Haifa al-Jadea

On January 3 Haifa al-Jadea was appointed as the Ambassador and Head of the Royal Delegation to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC).

Int’l Women’s Day Special: Breaking Stereotypes, Shahnaza 3 Other Women Run Milk Processing Plant at Udhampur

    [ad_1]

Jammu, Mar 8: “Being informed is being empowered. We cannot change our lives by sitting at home,” says Shahnaza, the brain behind the ‘Milk Processing Unit’ at Nadaso Kud Chenani in Udhampur district.

Shahnaza, along with three other women, has proven that with pure passion for work one can be a true inspiration for everyone all around.

Talking exclusively with GNS, Shahnaza said that I live in a place where job opportunities are almost nil, and with the day-to-day increase in financial crisis, I came forward to help my family, and it was Umeed (scheme) which showed me the right direction to fight my hardest battles, and within no time, I had achieved that much, which even I would have never otherwise dreamt of.

She said we sell cheese, Kalari, curd, and milk from the plant, besides we are supplying to different hotels in and around Patnitop, and the unit is easily making a sale of 3 to 4 thousand rupees a day – and is increasing day by day.

Sahahnaza recalls that the initial days were challenging when she alongside her colleagues started to work in a male-dominated society, but slowly things started working smoothly for us and the result is in front of all today.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, she says that “More than education, you need the willingness to chase your dreams. The rest will follow.”

“Financial independence makes a lot of difference in a woman’s life”, says Shahnaza. (GNS)

If Confronted With Any Unfortunate Thing, Report It To Police: SDPO Nehru Park To Women

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Coming close on the heels of the arrest of a duo over allegations of stalking and intimidating a girl in Srinagar, a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) at Nehru Park Srinagar, Mansha Beigh, on Monday asked women to come forward if confronted with any untoward or unfortunate thing.

Mansha Beigh, expressing her anguish over the incident urged women folk not to hesitate and straightaway approach any of the nearest police stations or take the assistance of the helpline numbers to bring the culprits to justice.

“We as a law enforcement agency owe a duty and responsibility to ensure to our people and especially to our women that they are safeguarded from any such mischievous act which may disparage their dignity”, Beigh said. “I reiterate on behalf of my department, our full protection to the women from such unscrupulous elements.” she added.

“We ask the fairer gender not to hesitate from reporting any such incident, if they can’t approach us directly, they may ask any of their close kith or kin to reach us and we assure you no such victim would be let down.” Beigh said that Srinagar police have already established women’s helplines, and any girl facing any kind of untoward incident should call on those numbers.

Notably, two boys were on Sunday arrested on allegations of stalking, harassing, and intimidating a girl in the summer capital’s Dalgate area. (GNS)
