Amritpal Singh case: BBC Punjabi Twitter account withheld

New Delhi: Amid ongoing police crackdown against pro-Khalistani elements in Punjab, the official Twitter account of the BBC Punjabi was blocked by the authorities.
The message of Twitter profile of BBC News Punjabi’ read: @bbcnewspunjabi’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand
Though the BBC has not issued any statements yet on the latest development, social media users took to Twitter to express their opinions.
“Now BBC News Punjabi twitter handle blocked in India. The government is afraid of the media that criticizes the government and exposes the government. It seems as if an undeclared emergency is being imposed in India, especially in Punjab,” tweeted Lakhvir Singh.
“BBC News Punjabi Twitter account blocked in India for spreading misinformation on law and order situation in Punjab and anti-India propaganda,” wrote another Twitter user.
In a latest development, a purported selfie of fugitive Khalistani ideologue Amritpal Singh enjoying an energy drink, along with aide Papalpreet Singh, has gone viral on social media.
The photo depicts Amritpal Singh, for whom a manhunt has been launched, wearing a jacket.
However, police have not confirmed the timing of the photo and even its authenticity.

Telangana govt ordered to pay pensions withheld amid COVID-19 with 6% interest

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Monday ordered the state government to pay retired government employees a portion of the pension that was withheld during the COVID-19 epidemic along with six percent interest.
A bench of the Telangana High Court comprising chief justice Ujjal Bhuyan and justice N Tukaramji emphasised that the Telangana government should follow the Supreme Court’s instructions clear out the pension dues with added interest to it.
In addition to this, the court further disposed of a group of petitions and PILs, filed by pensioners demanding 12 percent interest on the unpaid pensions.
However, the government objected to the order while claiming that the choice to postpone payment of salaries and pensions was made because of the unstable financial situation in the state arising from the outbreak of COVID-19.
It further stated that the state had behaved responsibly and that there was no justification for subjecting it to the burden of paying interest.
In 2021, the Supreme Court changed the interest rate on pensions from twelve percent to six percent.

Salary Of 7 BDOs Withheld For Poor Performance

SRINAGAR: District Development Commissioner, Doda Vishesh Paul Mahajan has withheld the salary of 7 Block Development Officers (BDOs) for poor performance in achieving the targets under District Capex and Area Development Plan which was reviewed by him the other day.
“Subsequent to the review meeting of the progress of physical and financial achievements by the Rural Development Department and in view of poor performance, the salary of the 07 Block Development Officers is stopped with immediate effect till further orders”, an order issued by DDC reads.
The officers, whose salaries have been withheld are, BDO Bhaderwah, BDO Bhalla, BDO Changa, BDO Jakyas, BDO Khellani, BDO Marmat and BDO Thathri.
The BDOs whose salary has been kept withheld have been asked to improve their performance to avoid further action as warranted under rules.
