    MeT Predicts Partly Cloudy Weather In JK

    SRINAGAR: Amid forecast for “partly to generally cloudy” weather in next 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded a fall in Kashmir Valley and increase in Jammu on Saturday, officials said.

    A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 6.4°C against 6.6°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 4.2°C for the summer capital.

    Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.2°C against 5.6°C on the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

    Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 1.2°C against 1.7°C on the previous night and it was 3.5°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

    Kokernag recorded a low of 4.7°C against 4.8°C on the previous night and it was 3.8°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

    Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against minus 0.6°C on the previous night and it was 4.2°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

    In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.2°C, the same as on the previous night and it was 3.2°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

    Jammu recorded a low of 13.2°C against 12.7°C on the previous night. It was 0.9°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

    Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 6.4°C (above normal by 0.9°C), Batote 9.2°C (above normal by 3.4°C), Katra 13.6°C (3.1°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 7.0°C (4.9°C above normal).

    Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 2.8°C and minus 4.6°C respectively, the official added.

    Regarding weather, he said it is likely to be “partly to generally cloudy” during next 24 hours with appreciable rise expected in day temperature. Clear weather is expected from March 5-12, the officials added.

    SRINAGAR: J&K experienced dry weather throughout the past 24 hours. The MeT office predicted scattered to moderately widespread light rain/snow for the following day on Sunday.

    “In J&K over the next 24 hours, light rain/snow is expected to be scattered to fairly widespread,” an official of the MeT department said.

    Srinagar had 7.3, Pahalgam 3.2 and Gulmarg minus 1.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today.

    In Ladakh region, Drass town had minus 10.1, Kargil minus 8.2 and Leh minus 6.6 as the minimum temperature.

    Jammu had 12.5, Katra 13.1, Batote 9, Banihal 7.4 and Bhaderwah 5.5 as the minimum temperature.(IANS)

    While Chillai-Kalan, the 40-day long harsh winter period that started on December 21 and a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ that followed it have ended, Kashmir is under grip of 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which ends on March 1.

    SRINAGAR: Parts of Kashmir Valley received rains and snowfall while metereological department on Tuesday forecast mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir for now.

    Quoting a meteorological department official news agency GNS reported that upper reaches including Gulmarg received fresh snowfall with the world famous skiing resort recording 10 cms (4 inches) of it since overnight till 0830 hours today.

    He said that while Srinagar had traces of rain during the time, Qazigund recorded 4.3mm, Pahalgam 4.3mm, Kupwara 7.6mm, Kokernag 4.2mm, Banihal 0.6mm, Batote 0.2mm and Bhadarwah 1.4mm.

    Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.0°C against the previous night’s 5.3°C . Today’s minimum temperature, he said, was above normal by 4.1°C for the summer capital.

    Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.7°C against 3.7°C on the previous night and it was 4.8°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
