    SRINAGAR: Weather was dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the last 24 hours as the MeT office said on Thursday that dry weather with partly cloudy sky is likely to continue.

    “Dry, partly cloudy weather is likely in J&K during the next 24 hours,” an official of the Meteorological (MeT) department said.

    Srinagar had 1.3, Pahalgam minus 1.9 and Gulmarg minus 2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

    In Ladakh region, Drass town had minus 10.9, Kargil minus 10.8 and Leh minus 7 as the minimum temperature.

    Jammu had 11.2, Katra 12, Batote 8.2, Banihal 4 and Bhaderwah 4.6 as the minimum temperature.

    SRINAGAR: Weather remained dry in J&K during the last 24 hours. The MeT office said on Wednesday that same conditions would continue in the next 24 hours.

    “Dry weather is likely to continue in J&K during the next 24 hours,” an official of the MeT department said.

    Srinagar had minus 0.2, Pahalgam minus 3.6 and Gulmarg minus 4.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today.

    In Ladakh region, Drass town had minus 14.8, Kargil minus 13.4 and Leh minus 10.4 as the minimum temperature.

    Jammu had 9.8, Katra 10.6, Batote 6, Banihal 2 and Bhaderwah 3.4 as the minimum temperature. (IANS)

    Srinagar, Feb 13 (GNS): The minimum temperatures recorded a plunge in Kashmir Valley with Srinagar recording minus 4.0°C on Monday.

    A meteorological department official told GNS that there was a drop of 3.4°C against the previous night’s minus 0.6°C in Srinagar. Today’s minimum temperature, he said, was below normal by 0.8°C for the summer capital.

    Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of minus 4.6°C against minus 1.5°C on the previous night and it was 3.6°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

    Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 10.0°C against minus 4.0°C on the previous night and it was 5.0°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

    Kokernag recorded a low of minus 4.6°C against minus 2.3°C on the previous night and it was 3.1°C below normal for the place, the officials said.

    Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 11.0°C against minus 13.5°C on the previous night and it was 4.8°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

    In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at minus 5.7°C against minus 4.7°C on the previous night and it was 4.5°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.

    Jammu recorded a low of 3.6°C against 5.8°C on the previous night. It was 6.5°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

    Banihal, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.4°C (below normal by 2.2°C), Batote minus 1.7°C (below normal by 0.9°C), Katra 5.6°C (2.5°C below normal) and Bhadarwah minus 2.2°C (2.4°C below normal).

    Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 16.8°C and minus 19.8°C respectively, the official said.

    Regarding the forecast, he said, mainly dry weather was expected this week.

    While Chillai-Kalan, the 40-day long harsh winter period that started on December 21 has ended, Kashmir is under the grip of a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’. It will be followed by a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which is from February 20 to March 1. (GNS)

    Gulmarg, Feb 12 (GNS): Sunny weather blessed at Gulmarg on Sunday giving respite to players and  organisers as all the events scheduled for the day were conducted smoothly at all the venues. All the players, coaches, officials donning their jerseys with enthusiastic spirit reached venues early to earn time for final practice before matches.

     One of the Alpine G slalom players while expressing his happiness said that it is a great opportunity to participate in 3rd Edition of Khelo India. He said that today the weather is very pleasant and he hopes to give his best to make his state proud.

    The sports events fixed for 3rd day of Winter Games included Ice Stock, Ice Hockey, Ice Skating, Bandy Curling, Bobsleighing & Skelton, Snow Shoe, Nordic, Ski Mountaineering, Alpine G Slalom and Cross Country.

     During the events, a huge number of spectators clapped and shouted to extend support to their favourite teams.  Meanwhile winners were awarded prizes by the officers & officials of J&K Sports councils after registering top position by defeating opponent teams & players.

    Earlier, In bandy Gujarat registered first position, Haryana second position while Maharashtra satisfied with third position.Similarly, in Ice Skating of 1000 Mtr. for the senior Girls category, Swarali Ashutosh Deo of Maharashtra achieved 1st position, Raina Kukreja got 2nd position and Anushka Merchant obtained 3rd position, both the players belonged to Haryana.

    In the same event of senior Men, Suyog Sanjay Tapkir of Maharashtra wrested 1st position, Anubhav Gupta from UP and Padma Gurmeet of Ladakh got 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

     In another Figure Skaters event of Boys 13-15 Years, Kapish Kaushik and Utkarsh Saxena both players from Haryana got first and second positions respectively while Ayush Jaguri, Uttrakhand had to satisfy at 3rd position. While in Figure Skaters Girls-15-19 Years, Wafa Tariq from J&K topped, followed by Chelsi Singh of Haryana at 2nd position and Shezan Wani, J&K at 3rd position.

     Also, in Figure Skaters age category Senior Girls, Kashish Sharma stayed at top and  Suyog Sanjay Tapkir obtained top position in Speed Skaters in Senior Men Category.

    Aman Thakur (HAWS) got gold medal in Senior Men Long Distance competition, Ghulam Haider (Ladakh)got gold in Junior Boys Long Distance competition, Dhanalaksmi ( Karnataka) received gold in Senior Women Long Distance category and Sara (J&K) took gold medal Junior Girls Long Distance.

     In  Nordic 15 KMS (Men) Shubham Parihar ( Army Red) got 1st position and in Nordic 1.5 KM Jr. Girls Shabnum (HP) scaled top position. Farhat Shabir (J&K) & Priyanshu Kawan (UK) achieved first position in Alpine Catogory 01 Boys and Alpine Catogory 02 Boys respectively.

     During the entire day, officers of J&K Sports council continued to monitor events by visiting venues and interacting with the players. Secretary J&K Sports council while speaking at Kongdoori said all the events are going as per schedule at all the venues. She said that players were very happy and ready to show their capabilities. 

    She informed that Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur instructed the department to organise sports events at other destinations including Sonmarg, Pahalgam Doodpathri in future and other possible venues to promote the winter sports at these places. (GNS)

    Srinagar, Feb 11(GNS): Weatherman department here on Saturday forecast mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir from Sunday.  Earlier there was light snow in Kashmir Valley including Srinagar and hilly areas of Jammu region, officials said. Also, the minimum temperature recorded a drop across J&K with Gulmarg recording a low of minus 8.3°C, a meteorological department official told GNS.  

    Meanwhile, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 0.5°C against 0.7°C on the previous night. Today’s minimum temperature, he said, was above normal by 0.3°C for the summer capital.

    Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 1.8°C (above normal by 0.6°C), Batote 2.4°C (below normal by 0.2°C), Katra 8.8°C (0.7°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 1.1°C (0.9°C above normal).

    Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 10.4°C and minus 6.7°C respectively, the official said.

    SRINAGAR: The flight operations at Srinagar international Airport resumed on Saturday after remaining temporarily suspended due to the snowfall and low visibility, officials said.

    Quoting Director Srinagar Airport, Kuldeep Singh news agency KNO reported that the flight operations have resumed at Srinagar airport.

    “The flight operations have resumed at Srinagar airport and no flight has been cancelled,” the official said.

    Earlier in the morning, the flight operations were suspended temporarily at Srinagar airport due to the snowfall and poor visibility.

    Weather Update for Today: Rain/snow is expected at most places in Kashmir and Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Udhampur, Kishtwar, and Doda districts. Intensity will pick up towards late afternoon.

    For most places in Kashmir, intensity will range between moderate and heavy. A few places (maximum possibility for south Kashmir parts) may only receive light rain/snow till evening.
