Hyderabad Solidarity Forum condemn Manipur violence wearing black masks

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In solidarity with violence-hit Manipur, the Hyderabad Solidarity Forum gathered near the Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Tuesday wearing black masks and holding placards.

The Hyderabad Solidarity Forum released a statement describing the situation in Manipur as the “perfect example” of a culture fed with divisive politics and religious hate.

“Fuelled by the rampant spread of divisive communal narratives, such violence has taken the shape of riots, evictions, murder, calls to genocide, confiscation of lands and a plethora of other tactics deployed by dominant majority communities who have vested economic and political interests. Mainstream narratives of these incidents ensure that the voices and the realities of the marginalised are silenced,” the press noted read.

Condemning the ethnic violence that left 60 dead, and more than 23,000 displaced across the state, the Hyderabad Solidarity Forum’s statement demanded collective action against violence fed with hate.

“We take a collective stance against such violence, oppression and divisive narratives fuelled by false information. We aim to revive the spirit of unity, understanding, goodwill and peace that our country so desperately needs. We demand the cessation of violence in the state and the recognition of the rights of the minority communities to their lands,” the statement read.

  • Wearing face masks should be mandatory in public places: Health expert

Wearing face masks should be mandatory in public places: Health expert

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Amid the daily spike in COVID-19 cases in the country, a health expert has advised people to wear masks and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.

Dr Sandeep Nayar, Pulmonologist, HOD, BLK Hospital said that masks should be made mandatory in crowded places.

“Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases, it is most important that people start wearing masks. One should wear a mask while going to any crowded place. Use double-layer masks in places like hospitals etc., as it is very effective in preventing infection,” Dr Nayar said, adding that the government should also issue advisories and should make wearing face masks mandatory in crowded places.

    MS Education Academy

“Corona cases are shooting up, patients with symptoms of sore throat, cough, cold, and fever are coming to us,” the health expert said. “We are advising the patients with such symptoms to have strict home isolation for seven days,” he added.

He said that the condition of the patients is not worrisome.

“Very few patients are requiring hospitalization. Only patients suffering from some serious illness are required to be admitted to the hospital. Patients suffering from cancer, or other serious diseases are at greater risk from this variant and need to be extensively taken care of,” Dr Nayar said.

The national capital on Wednesday reported 1,149 new coronavirus cases, marking a sharp jump from Tuesday when 980 cases were reported, according to a daily bulletin issued by the Delhi Health Department.

According to the Delhi Health Department, one death was reported in the national capital but the primary cause of death was not Covid. While the positivity rate stood at 23.8 per cent.

On Wednesday, India recorded 7,830 new coronavirus cases, marking a sharp jump from Tuesday when 5,675 cases were reported, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Monday advised citizens not to panic amid rising Covid cases, saying that they should maintain proper hygiene.

“Don’t panic. We have controlled it before, We will do it now also with your support. Covid cases are rising, but don’t panic. Maintain hygiene,” the statement said.

According to leading epidemiologists and virologists, the new Covid variant — XBB.1.16 — could be the reason behind the increase in cases.

“People in high-risk groups — pregnant ladies, those over the age of 60, those with chronic illnesses, and those with underlying health conditions, immunocompromised — face an increased risk of severe illness and death from Covid-19. We need to protect them,” read the statement.

  • Women not wearing hijab will be refused entry to Tehran Metro

Women not wearing hijab will be refused entry to Tehran Metro

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Hijab enforcement groups will be set up on the Tehran Metro and those not wearing hijab will be refused entry, in effect banning some women from work, as per Iranian state TV, a media report said.

The move appears to be part of a pattern of government efforts to force Iranian public bodies to take greater responsibility for enforcing the hijab, The Guardian reported.

Many Iranian women, especially in urban centres, have refused to comply with the hijab rule, in a sign that the “women, life, freedom” protests that began in September last year continue in a more individualised form, the report said.

    MS Education Academy

The latest threatening clampdown comes as girls in secondary schools in Tehran, Karaj and other cities continue to report poison attacks. At least nine schools were reported to have been attacked on Sunday. According to Iranian MP Mohammad Hassan Asefari, a government fact-finding committee said the security agencies had been unable to identify the perpetrators, while the Ministry of Health is yet to determine the nature of the poison being used.

The contrast between the urgency of the efforts to enforce the hijab and the inability of the investigators to use CCTV to identify those behind the poison attacks has infuriated opponents of the government.

The Tehran Metro Company had already announced that “in line with the demands of the noble people of Iran on the issue of hijab”, it was launching a verbal reminder project in Tehran and suburban Metro stations. But the latest pictures on Iran state TV show Metro staff barring women trying to pass through the ticket barrier without a hijab, The Guardian reported.

Masoud Darshti, the Chief Executive of Tehran and Suburbs Metro Operation Company, had announced the establishment of a chastity and hijab headquarters to issue reminders. He said his staff would be required to implement any police order, but added that he had not yet personally received the instruction formally.

  • Nadia Kahf becomes first-headscarf wearing judge in New Jersey

Nadia Kahf becomes first-headscarf wearing judge in New Jersey

    [ad_1]

After a year of waiting, Nadia Kahf, a family law and immigration attorney from Wayne, has become the first headscarf-wearing woman to serve as a state Superior Court judge in the Passaic County, United States (US) of New Jersey.

After being appointed to her new position in New Jersey, Kahf took an oath on Tuesday, March 21, by pressing her hand on the Holy Quran inherited from her grandmother.

“I am proud to represent the Muslim and Arab communities in New Jersey in the United States (US). I want the younger generation to see that they can practice their religion without fear that they can be who they are. Diversity is our strength, it is not our weakness,” Nadia said during a sworn-in ceremony.

    Watch the video below

Kahf’s nomination, which came a year ago but was delayed by Senator Kristen Corrado. She was confirmed earlier this month.

    Know more about Nadia Kahf

Nadia Kahf immigrated to the United States (US) from Syria when she was 2-year-old.

She has been working in the country’s Islamic foundations for a long time.

Since 2003, she has been a member of the board of directors for the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an Islamic civil rights organization where she now serves as chair of the board.

Kahf serves as president of the Islamic Center of Passaic County, one of the state’s largest mosques.

She is also legal counsel for Wafa House, a nonprofit domestic violence and social service agency based in Clifton.

In 2020, New Jersey’s Insider newspaper ranked her among the top Muslims for influence in academia and business, government, law and politics, religion, social justice, and more.

Nadia is not the first Muslim judge

Kahf became the first state judge in the US to wear a headscarf, but she is not the first Muslim judge.

There are Muslim women judges working in different parts of the United States.

Nadia Kahf will be the third Muslim woman to serve on the New Jersey Supreme Court, which hears both criminal and civil cases.

Sharifa Salaam serves as Supreme Court justice in Essex and Kalimah Ahmad in Hudson.

With this achievement, Kahf follows in the footsteps of other Muslim women who have achieved success in the legal field.

In June 2022, Laila Ikram made history by taking the bench as the first female Muslim judge in the state of Arizona.

In January 2023, US President Joe Biden selected eight judicial candidates, including Nusrat Chaudhry who will be the first Muslim woman to serve as a federal judge.

  • AIMJ chief issues fatwa against Muslim women wearing ‘Sindoor’, ‘Bindi’

AIMJ chief issues fatwa against Muslim women wearing ‘Sindoor’, ‘Bindi’

    [ad_1]

Bareilly: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, president of All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ) and well-known Islamic scholar, has issued a fatwa that says Muslim women who wear ‘sindoor’, ‘kalava’ and ‘bindi’ after marrying non-Muslim youth, are going against the tenets of Islam.

He said that Shariat does not allow women to wear symbols belonging to other religion.

In a fatwa, the cleric said that women who follow such practices are actually not adhering to the Islamic way of life and can be ex-communicated.

He said that Uttar Pradesh and several other states had adopted the anti-conversion law but incidents, where couples are marrying after concealing their religious identities, are still being reported and Muslim youth are largely being blamed for luring non-Muslim girls into marriage.

“The Barelvi sect terms such marriages as illegal and null and void,” he said.

Dr Mohd Naeem, a commoner, had put up a query in this regard to which the fatwa was issued.

The cleric said, “It is seen on the social media that Muslim youth conceal their religious identity and can be seen sporting ’tilak’ and adopting Hindu names. This cannot be termed in accordance with Shariat and is illegal.”

Citing the Quran, the Maulana said that it was clearly stated that one should not marry a non-Muslim till the time she does not adopt Islam.

  • Those wearing ‘hawai chappals’ should travel in ‘hawai jahaz’: PM Modi

Those wearing ‘hawai chappals’ should travel in ‘hawai jahaz’: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

Shivamogga: “Those wearing ‘hawai chappals’ should travel in ‘hawai jahaz’ (aircraft). I’m seeing it happening”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday as he highlighted that India’s aviation market is growing rapidly.
Speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating the Shivamogga airport, he said in the coming days India will need thousands of aircraft, and the days of Made-in-India passenger aircraft are not far.

Modi also took a dig at the Congress, saying before 2014 Air India was often discussed for negative reasons, and the company was recognised for scams during that party’s rule.

The inauguration of the airport coincided with the 80th birthday of Karnataka BJP strongman and four-time Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who hails from Shivamogga district.

Modi asked people to switch on their mobile flash lights to commemorate Yediyurappa’s birthday.

Karnataka has made up its mind to repeatedly give opportunity to “double engine” government, he said.

This is Modi’s fifth visit this year to the State, where Assembly elections are due by May.

The new airport has been developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore. The passenger terminal building of the airport can handle 300 passengers per hour.

The airport is expected to improve connectivity and accessibility from Shivamogga and other neighbouring areas in the Malnad region of Karnataka, officials said

In all, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 3,600 crore here.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Yediyurappa were among those present on the occasion.
