Hyderabad: Godavari water pipeline work postponed by 2 days due to Holi

Hyderabad: The water board here has decided to postpone Godavari main pipe works here for 24 hours in view of Holi on March 7 and 8. The decision has been taken to avoid inconvenience to the general public as water supply will be affected in many areas. The HMWSSB will begin work on the pipeline from March 9 and arrangements for the same will be made in the next 48 hours.
According to Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) managing directr, Dana Kishore, the Godavari main 3000 mm diameter pumping main pipe line bridge passing – bypassing and interconnection works will be taken up at Kukunoor Palli in Siddipet district as part of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply (GDWSS) phase-1. The line supplies fresh water to Hyderabad.
Junction works on the Godavari main pipe line should be done there without disturbing the construction of the railway line which is being newly constructed by the South Central Railway at Kukunoorpally, said the HMWSSB managing director. The HMWSSB MD also directed the officials to complete the work within the stipulated time and restore the water supply and ensure that there is no inconvenience to the people.
The water board has also requested the public to store water and to use it sparingly for the three days from March 9 to 11 that supply will be affected. The following are the areas that will be affected and not have any supply until the works will be completed by the HMWSSB:
O&M Division No.12 (Qutbullapur) : Shahpur, Chintal, Jeedimetla, Vani Chemicals, Jagadgirigutta, Gajula Ramaram, Suraram.
O&M Division No.13 (Malkaz Giri/Alwal) : Defense Colony.
O&M Division no. 19 : Nagaram/ Dammai Guda, Keesara.
O&M Division no. 24 (Bollaram) : Ring Main-3 Online Supply.
O&M Division no. 25 (Kompally) : Kompally, Gondla Pochampally areas.
Areas of RWS of Take: Kondapaka (Janagama, Siddipet), Prajnapur (Gajwel), Aler (Bhuvangiri), Ghanpur (Medchal/ Sameerpet), Cantonment Area, MES, Turkapally Biotech Park.
O&M Division no. 14 (Uppal) : Periphery areas of Capra Municipality.
Areas of Partial Disruption:

Telangana: ULBs, electricity dept to ensure sufficient water supply in summer

Hyderabad: In view of the temperature soaring up in the state, the Public Health and Municipal Engineering department has issued instructions to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to ensure safe and sufficient water supply under its limits in summer.
To ensure continuous water supply, the ULBs have been directed to coordinate with the electricity department while the municipal commissioners and engineers have been asked to coordinate with the irrigation department to ensure the timely release of water into canals.
“Owing to increased demand for fresh water in the summer season, the ULBs have been asked to follow a few guidelines on specific issues,” an official from the department said.
To ensure uninterrupted pumping, municipal commissioners have been instructed to arrange required capacity generators at all pumping stations if required.
In addition to this, all the water sources will be equipped with safeguards to avoid contamination of drinking water and to prevent sewage water from entering the freshwater pipelines.

SRINAGAR: In a bid to start renovation of Sindh Extension Canal near head works of the department in Srinagar Division the water supply would remain affected in some Srinagar areas on March 5 2023 till 9pm.
The Jal shakti Department Srinagar division has informed that the water supply to several areas will remain affected on March 6 of 2023 till 9pm.
The areas that would remain affected include Mal shahi bagh Zakura, Gulab Bagh, Alasteng, Shuhama, Naseem Bagh,Lal Bazaar , Habak, Hadoora, Pandach,Chaterhama, khal mohalla, Buspora, Soura, Anchaar,Bahavchipora, Zoonimar,Nowshera, Bagh-e- Ali Mardaan Khan, Zadibal, Hawal, Alamgiri Bazaar, Rajouri Kadal, Nallahmar, Nawakadal, Bohri kadal, Nowhatta, Hazratbal, sadrabal, Nigeen, Saida kadal, Karan Nagar, Chattabal, Kawdara, Eidgah, Mahrajgunj, ZainaKadal, Noor Bagh, Saidapora, Bemina, Firdous Abaad, Batmaloo, Qamarwari, Zainakote, Noor abad, Umarabad and adjacent areas.

Hyderabad: 2.5 lakh water supply connections will be impacted, says HMWSSB

Hyderabad: The managing director of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Dana Kishore advised citizens to store and use the water consciously after inspecting the pipeline works site in Kukunoorpally, Siddipet areas.
Supply of drinking water will be affected in several areas of the city for 66 hours from 6 am on March 8 to 12 midnight on March 10.
Shapur reservoir commanding area, Chintal reservoir commanding area, and several other areas will face complete disruption.
“There will be an interruption of water supply to as many as 2.5 lakh connections in the city,” he said speaking to the officials at the water works department in Khairatabad.
Kishore ordered the officials to ensure water supply to the affected areas by March 10. He instructed the officials to provide water to the affected areas through tankers until the water supply resumes.
He directed the officials to prioritize the supply of water tankers to slum areas and increase the number of trips as a necessity.
The pipeline works near Siddipet are a part of the Godavari drinking water supply phase – 1 that supplies water to Hyderabad.
He inspected the ongoing works and asked the officials to complete the pipeline works in 48 hours instead of the pre-decided 66 hours. He directed the officials to prepare a special plan in this regard and asked them to ensure that the works are done carefully.

He directed the officials to double the work force to finish the work and consult technical experts, if required.
“Ensure that additional machines, tools and construction materials are available. Protective equipment should be made available in the work site. Safety measures should be followed while working,” he said.
Dana Kishore instructed them to use proper barricading equipment to make sure that unauthorised people do not have access to the site.

Unclaimed water bottle creates IED scare in Rajouri

Jammu, Feb 28 (GNS): An unclaimed water bottle caused panic in Panja Chowk of Rajouri with police and paramilitary CRPF rushing to the area, suspecting it to be an IED, officials said.
They said at about 7:50 a.m., Police’s Special Operation Group along with Bomb Disposal Squad and CRPF cordoned off Panja Chowk after information that there was unclaimed object. Without taking any chances, they said, the object was thoroughly checked.
“After inspection, it turned out to be a water bottle,” a police officer told GNS. Asked about the panic due to it, he said, “Security establishment does not take any chances.” (GNS)

Sri Lankan opposition-led protest march comes under police tear gas, water cannon attack

Colombo: Sri Lankan police on Sunday fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest march organised by the country’s main opposition coalition here against the delay in local body polls.
The Election Commission on Friday formally announced that the local body elections would not be held on March 9 as planned, and a fresh date will be notified on March 3.
The protest march and rally organised by the National People’s Power urged President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government to hold the local body polls.
Police tried to disperse the protesters and fired water cannons and tear gas twice at the Union Place area of central Colombo, where authorities had blocked several access roads.
The police obtained orders from the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court, preventing 26 people, including the NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, from entering areas around the President’s Office and President’s House until 8 pm on Sunday.
The NPP leaders carried a banner during the march, which said, “let’s defeat the government’s cowardly attempt to bury democracy by not holding the election”.
Opposition parties like the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) pin the blame on Wickremesinghe, who is also the country’s finance minister, for trying to sabotage the local body polls by blocking the funds from the Treasury.
They are also accusing him of influencing the state officials and the Election Commission against the holding of the polls, fearing a loss.

The election to appoint new administrations to 340 local councils for a four-year term has been postponed since March last year due to the ongoing economic crisis.
The government has indicated repeatedly that the time was unsuitable to hold the election, given the economic crisis.
It said the scarcity of money to hold the election costing Rs 10 billion would bring additional pressure on the already lean state finances.
Despite the uncertainty around the elections, the main opposition party has been campaigning vigorously and is thought to have a good chance of winning control of a sizeable number of seats.
Sri Lanka was hit by an unprecedented financial crisis in 2022, the worst since its independence from Britain in 1948, due to a severe paucity of foreign exchange reserves, sparking political turmoil in the country that led to the ouster of the all-powerful Rajapaksa family.
