AP: TDP will go to court if baseless charges doesn’t stop, MLA warns govt

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Telugu Desam Party MLA Payyavula Keshav attacked the state government for leveling baseless charges with regard to the skill development project. He said his party is ready to take the legal route.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) had earlier alleged that funds for the Skill Development project were being deposited into the accounts of TDP leaders

Talking to media persons through Zoom on Wednesday, Keshav said, “I would like to ask the CID to give details of their accused TDP leaders. The Skill Development project which was introduced by the TDP government for the bright future of young people of Andhra Pradesh has been destroyed by the current state government.”

“When TDP was in power, it along with six other state governments entered into an MoU with the conglomerate corporation Siemens. Are you telling em that the chief minister of all these six states are involved in corruption charges?” Keshav questioned.

Mentioning a report that stated the chairman of Siemens Suman Bose had benefited some politicians Keshav challenged how is Chandrababu Naidu related to it.

Keshav warned the state government that if the baseless charges continue, the latter has to pay a heavy price.

He further alleged that the Skill Development project issue is just a diversion from the ongoing investigation into the murder of Vivekananda Reddy (paternal uncle of CM Jagan Mohan Reddy).

“The Chief Minister is now worried as their MP Avinash Reddy was summoned by the CBI. Hence they have created baseless charges against the TDP to divert public and media attention,” Keshav alleged.

Ruler’s sister warns North Korea ready to act

    [ad_1]

    south korea japan 54700

“We keep our eye on the restless military moves by the U.S. forces and the South Korean puppet military and are always on standby to take appropriate, quick and overwhelming action at any time according to our judgment,” Kim Yo Jong said in the statement carried by state media.

“The demonstrative military moves and all sorts of rhetoric by the U.S. and South Korea, which go so extremely frantic as not to be overlooked, undoubtedly provide (North Korea) with conditions for being forced to do something to cope with them,” she said.

After Monday’s training, South Korea’s Defense Ministry said the B-52’s deployment demonstrated the allies’ decisive capacities to deter North Korean aggressions. The U.S. deployed a long-range U.S. B-1B bomber or multiple B-1Bs to the peninsula a few times earlier this year. South Korea said those drills demonstrated the allies’ ability to make a decisive response to potential North Korean aggressions.

Last Friday, the South Korean and U.S. militaries announced they would conduct a computer-simulated command post training from March 13-23 and restore their largest springtime field exercises that were last held in 2018.

The allies had canceled or scaled back some of their regular drills since 2018 to support now-dormant diplomacy with North Korea and guard against the Covid-19 pandemic. But they’ve been restoring their exercises after North Korea last year conducted a record number of missile tests and openly threatened to use its nuclear weapons in potential conflicts with its rivals.

In a separate statement Tuesday, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry called the flyover of the U.S. B-52 bomber a reckless provocation that pushes the situation on the peninsula “deeper into the bottomless quagmire.” The statement, attributed to the unnamed head of the ministry’s foreign news office, said “there is no guarantee that there will be no violent physical conflict” if U.S.-South Korean military provocations continue.

North Korea often unleashes fiery rhetoric in times of heightened animosities with the United States and South Korea. Possible steps North Korea could take include a nuclear test or the launch of a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile targeting the mainland U.S., observers say.

Last month, Kim Yo Jong threatened to turn the Pacific into the North’s firing range. In her statement Tuesday, she said North Korea would consider a possible U.S. attempt to intercept a North Korean ICBM a declaration of war. She cited a South Korean media report saying the U.S. military plans to shoot down a North Korean ICBM if it’s test-launched toward the Pacific.

All known North Korean ICBM tests have been made at steep angles to avoid neighboring countries, and the weapons landed in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.

South Korea on Monday took a step meant to ease a thorny history dispute with Japan in what was seen as an effort to boost the trilateral Seoul-Tokyo-Washington security cooperation. The step involves a plan that uses local funds to compensate Koreans who performed forced labor during Tokyo’s colonial rule, but without requiring require Japanese companies to contribute to the reparations.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel on Monday praised the leaders of South Korea and Japan, saying the two came to understand that “potential of collaboration into the future is more important and have a greater value and realizing you have to deal with historic issues.”

  • DAK Warns Against Excessive Use Of Earphones On World Hearing Day

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: On world hearing day, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Friday warned against excessive use of earphones.

“Overuse of earphones at higher volumes over prolonged period of time can result in hearing loss,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.

Dr Hassan said the younger generation is particularly vulnerable because they are glued to their personal listening devices like earphones, headphones and earbuds.

They plug these devices into their smartphones and listen to many hours at volumes exceeding the safe limit.

“Young people often choose volumes as high as 105 decibels,” he said

“The safe sound levels are around 85 decibels for adults and 75 decibels for children.”

The DAK President said more people are coming with hearing issues due to the overuse of earphones and headphones.

“Today’s earphone users are going to be tomorrow’s hearing aid users,” he said.

“According to a study published in the Journal BMJ Global Health, one billion young people are potentially at risk of hearing loss due to their excessive use of headphones and earbuds.”

Dr Nisar said hearing is the sense that connects us to the people.

Taking care of our hearing is key to maintaining healthy relationship(s) and general health and well-being.

He said there is an urgent need to prioritize safe listening practices to safeguard aural health

It is always preferable to avoid earphones, but those who need them should take precautions.

“Limit the usage time, keep the volume low and take breaks,” he said

“Every year on March 3, world hearing day is observed to raise awareness on ways of preventing deafness and promoting aural care through safe listening,” he added.

  • US lawmaker warns India against Chinese-tainted Russian weapons

US lawmaker warns India against Chinese-tainted Russian weapons

    [ad_1]

Washington: A top US lawmaker has cautioned India against “compromised” Chinese elements in technology it may have imported from Russia in view of growing ties between Moscow and Beijing.

“We don’t want to be in a situation where for some reason, the Russians somehow have given technology that’s compromised by the CCP to India or others that could be taken advantage of by the CCP,” said Raja Krishnamoorthi, the top Democrat and the ranking member of the newly established House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the US and the Communist Party of China (CCP), in an interview.

“I think there’s just a very detailed conversation that’s probably happening and should happen between our governments with regard to a whole range of technology now that we believe that it’s critical to our collective security,” he added.

The compromised parts could give the Chinese a window into the Indian defence systems, and/or into American hardware being used by Indians.

As India and the US have deepened and broadened defence cooperation, with Indian purchases of American military hardware at an all-time high, Washington DC has had concerns that its sensitive-technology military hardware sold to India can be accessed by Russia through their equipment that flood Indian armories. This has been cited as a chief concern by Americans as they press India, without success, to cancel its order of the Russian S-400 air missile defence system. They also say that the presence of Russian equipment impeded interoperability between the militaries of India and the US.

Asked about India’s ties with Russia, the lawmaker, who was born in New Delhi and came to the US when he was three, said, “I understand the historical ties between the Indians and the Russians. And I also understand the practical nature of the relationship. I hope that over time, the US can prove to be a reliable source of security equipment. But also, we can deepen our ties so that the Indians aren’t as dependent on the Russians for certain critical items.”

India has indeed been diversifying military purchases in recent years and it has substantially cut dependence on Russia and the US has been among the countries that are rushing in to fill that space, along with others, by, among other things, upgrading India’s access to sensitive technology at par with close allies.

Americans have publicly urged India to review ties with Russia in view of this growing proximity. “I do think that the CCP and the Russians have entered into a rather unholy relationship right now with regard to Ukraine with regard to other matters that I don’t think are in the best long term interests. of the world,” said Krishnamoorthi, who had earlier served on the House Permanent Select Committee that oversees the work of America’s 17 intelligence agencies.

Ties between Russia and China have grown dramatically close in recent times, specially 2022, when Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping declared their relationship has “no limits”. The two countries said in a joint statement after their meeting in February 2022, “The new inter-state relations between Russia and China are superior to political and military alliances of the Cold War era. Friendship between the two States has no limits, there are no ‘forbidden’ areas of cooperation.”

Congressman Krishnamoorthi is a rising star in the Democratic party and he breaks new ground as the lead Democrat on the China committee – over the claims of other Democrats.

“I’m honoured to be the first Indian American to ever lead either Democrats or Republicans on any select committee or standing committee in Congress,” he said, adding, “I’m honoured to have the opportunity to to work on this particular assignment. I think leader (Hakeem) Jeffries (the top Democrat in the House of Representatives and Minority Leader) is to be strongly commended for the new voices that he’s bringing to leadership and the discussion of these critical issues in this Congress – makes him the first Indian American ever to lead a standing or a select committee for both Democrats and Republicans.”

This panel – variously called the China Committee and the tough-on China committee – was set up by this new Republican-led House in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote by Republicans and Democrats. Republican Mike Gallagher, a China hawk, is the chairman.

Krishnamoorthi said the committee’s charter is to “to investigate and report upon the economic, technological and national security challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party, also known as the CCP, to the United States.”

Austin warns that China providing support to Russia would be ‘ill-advised’

    [ad_1]

Austin said Friday while the Pentagon hasn’t yet seen China provide any military assistance to Russia, Beijing “hasn’t taken that off the table for sure.” The Defense secretary said he engaged his counterpart, Chinese Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe, “early on” to tell him “this would be a very bad mistake if China were to do this” and that it would “further complicate things.”

“China has a lot of capability in terms of munitions and weapons,” Austin said. “And if they provide the substantial support to Russia, it prolongs the conflict.”

The Pentagon chief also divulged in the interview that he is not currently in contact with his Chinese counterpart, who did not take a call from Austin when the U.S shot down a Chinese spy balloon in early February. The last time the two spoke was “a couple of months ago,” Austin said.

“I think it’s really, really important to make sure that we maintain lines of communication open. I think leaders need to be able to talk to each other to avoid misperceptions and manage crises,” Austin said. “And so this is really important. And so we hope that Minister Wei will have a change of heart and schedule that call.”

Russia warns West, Ukraine against provacation over rebel Moldovan region

    [ad_1]

Moscow: Warning Ukraine and NATO against an “provocation” in the Moldovan breakaway region of Transnistria, Russia on Friday said that any action that poses a threat to Russian peacekeepers or nationals there will be seen as an attack on Russia.

In a statement on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry, citing data from the Defence Ministry that Ukraine has amassed considerable numbers of military personnel, as well as hardware and artillery on its border with Transnistria, warned the “US, NATO member states and their Ukrainian underlings against any further adventurous steps”, RT reported.

While Russia favours “political-diplomatic” ways of resolving issues, “no one should have any doubt that the Russian armed forces will react appropriately to any provocation by the Kiev regime,” the statement read.

It stressed that it is determined to protect its citizens, peacekeepers, and military personnel stationed in Moldova’s breakaway region, and any actions posing a threat to their security will be viewed, according to international law, as an attack against the Russian Federation.

The report of a Ukrainian military buildup along the country’s border with Transnistria was issued by the Russian Defence Ministry on Thursday.

The territory on the left bank of the Dniester River proclaimed independence from Moldova in the early 1990s, shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Around 1,100 Russian soldiers are stationed in Transnistria as peacekeepers in order to monitor a 1992 ceasefire between Moldovan and local forces.

Massive earthquakes can hit these parts of India any time, warns NGRI- Details Here

The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) on Tuesday predicted massive earthquakes in the Himalayan region with the potential to affect Uttarakhand and Nepal in the near future. It, however, added that strong building structures can prevent loss of property as well as life.

While speaking to media, NGRI’s chief scientist Dr N Purnachandra Rao said that Earth’s surface comprises various plates that are constantly in motion and the Indian plate is moving about 5 cm per year, leading to accumulation of stress along the Himalayas.

The accumulated stress increases the possibility of a greater earthquake, he said.

We have a strong network of 18 seismograph stations in Uttarakhand. The region referred to as the seismic gap between Himachal and western part of Nepal including Uttarakhand is prone to earthquakes that might occur at any time,” added Dr N Purnachandra Rao.

The NGRI scientist stressed that the earthquakes can hit with magnitude as strong as 8 on the Richter Scale.

Talking about the deadly earthquakes in Turkey recently, he said that the damage was more in the country because of the poor quality of buildings.

We can’t stop earthquakes but we can prevent loss. There are guidelines issued by the Government of India for construction of buildings in these earthquake prone areas, so public should follow those guidelines,” he advised. (Times Now)

  • Thackeray calls for scrapping Election Commission, warns of anarchy after 2024

Thackeray calls for scrapping Election Commission, warns of anarchy after 2024

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: In a stunning statement, Shiv Sena-UBT President and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday said the party name-symbol verdict of Election Commission was “unacceptable” and demanded that the poll panel must be “disbanded”.

Thackeray’s shocker came at a media conference when he termed the EC ruling of last Friday as “incorrect” and said his party has challenged it in the Supreme Court, while apprehending a “dictatorship” in the country after 2024.

“Such undemocratic decisions cannot be made on the basis of money power… It’s an unconstitutional verdict. We demand that the ECI should be dissolved, an impartial EC should be elected like the judges, and till then its work should be handled by the Supreme Court,” roared Thackeray.

He sought for the need to “elect” and not “appoint” election commissioners with a proper procedure, on the lines of the procedures of appointing judges in the Supreme Court.

Thackeray warned that if the scenario is not halted, then the 2024 elections may be the last in the country and after that anarchy will begin, and called upon all parties to remain vigilant.

He termed the latest political developments as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s strategy to systematically destroy the Shiv Sena for which it had contracted (Chief Minister) Eknath Shinde.

Last Friday, the EC had declared the faction led by CM Shinde as the “real” one and awarded it the original party’s name Shiv Sena and election symbol of bow and arrow, sparking howls of protests from the Thackeray side.

Questioning the haste in the matter, Thackeray pointed out that his group had requested the EC to defer its ruling till the matter of suspended MLAs is pending in the SC.

If the EC wanted to select who would get the party name-symbol on the basis of their legislative strength, “then why did they ask for affidavits, certificates and other documents for which we spent lakhs of rupees”, he said, adding that they should have taken into consideration the timeline of the chain of events in the matter.

“Everything has been stolen from us… The name and symbol of our party, even the (temporary) symbol of ‘Flaming Torch’ may be snatched, but they cannot steal the name Thackeray. We have challenged the EC ruling in the SC and the matter will come up tomorrow (Febeuary 21),” said Thackeray.

After the EC’s order, a livid Sena-UBT chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut claimed on Sunday that an amount of over Rs 2,000 crore was spent to grab the party’s name-symbol and has threatened to make more exposes on this in the coming days.

Thackeray held discussions with his top leaders and district party heads to decide the future course of action, the upcoming Budget Session of Maharashtra Legislature, the upcoming cases in the SC, etc., even as his party units protested in different parts of the state against the EC.

Blinken warns China of ‘serious consequences’ on bilateral ties for aiding Russia

    [ad_1]

Washington: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned China that providing “lethal support” for Russia’s war against Ukraine will have “serious consequences” on bilateral ties between the two countries and condemned Beijing’s balloon incursion, saying it “must never happen again.”

Blinken and Wang Yi, the Chinese Communist Party’s senior-most foreign policy official, held hourlong talks in Munich on Saturday, where they were attending an international security conference, according to the US State Department.

The two high-profile diplomats met in their first high-level contact since the US shot down an alleged Chinese spy balloon a fortnight ago.

“I made very clear to him that China sending a surveillance balloon over the US, in violation of our sovereignty, in violation of international law, was unacceptable, and must never happen again,” Blinken told CBS News in an interview.

His spokesman, Ned Price, said Blinken also told the Chinese diplomat that his nation’s “high-altitude surveillance balloon programme — which has intruded into the airspace of more than 40 countries across five continents — was exposed to the world.”

The balloon incident prompted Blinken to postpone a planned visit to Beijing.

The February 5-6 trip would have been the first by a US secretary of state to China in five years and was seen by both countries as an opportunity to stabilise their strained ties.

During Saturday’s meeting, Blinken also raised the Russia-Ukraine war with Wang.

“There were concerns that China was considering providing lethal support to Russia in its war against Ukraine. I was able to share with him, as President Biden had shared with President Xi, the serious consequences that would have for our relationship,” Blinken said.

He also underscored the importance of maintaining diplomatic dialogue and open lines of communication at all times.

“Finally, it was important for me to underscore that we believe having lines of communication, engaging in direct diplomacy, is very important. We have a responsibility to manage our relationship in a responsible manner,” he added.

The two diplomats could meet again in New Delhi next month on the sidelines of the G-20 Foreign Ministers meeting.

The meeting between the two senior officials came hours after Wang renewed Beijing’s criticism of the US for shooting down what Washington says was a Chinese spy balloon, arguing at the conference in Germany that the move doesn’t point to US strength.

“The actions don’t show that the US is big and strong, but describe the exact opposite,” Wang explained.

“This is actually a political farce created by the US. We have categorically told them that this is a civilian unmanned airship. Due to the influence of the super westerly winds and its limited control ability, it deviated from the planned path and entered the skies over the US. We have asked them to work with China and handle it properly in a rational, calm and professional manner,” Xinhua news agency, quoted Wang as saying.

After delivering the keynote speech at the Munich Security Conference, Wang told the Chinese media that everyone is concerned about how the recent balloon incident has strained the Sino-US relations.

“Regrettably, the US ignored the basic facts and brazenly dispatched fighter planes to shoot down a non-threatening airship with missiles. This behaviour is unbelievable, almost hysterical, and a 100 per cent abuse of force, which clearly violates international conventions,” he added.

Wang urged Washington to show sincerity, correct its mistakes and resolve the damage caused to the Sino-US relations due to this incident.

  • After EC’s order on Shiv Sena symbol, Uddhav warns political parties to be cautious

After EC’s order on Shiv Sena symbol, Uddhav warns political parties to be cautious

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said all political parties need to open their eyes and remain cautious in the wake of the Election Commission’s decision of recognising the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena.

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday recognised the Shinde-led faction as the real Shiv Sena and ordered allocation of the ‘bow and arrow’ poll symbol to it, in the process delivering a big blow to Thackeray, whose father Bal Thackeray founded the outfit in 1966.

“What has happened to Shiv Sena, how we have been treated, can happen to you too. All parties should keep their eyes open and be cautious,” Thackeray said during an interaction with members of north Indian community here.

“You want my father’s face, but not his son. I was ready to come along. If you ditch me when I wanted to implement a promise given to my father, what should I do?” he asked while targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I never wanted to be a chief minister, but was asked by Congress and NCP to take over because otherwise a government could not have been formed. Had BJP honoured the commitment given, both Shiv Sena and BJP would have got their chief ministers for two-and-a-half years each,” he said.

Some people from my party defected. Those who want to leave can go, but they should merge with another party. However, they want to throw me out of my house and take it over, he alleged.

My father groomed these people and Shiv Sainiks supported them. But now they want to become owners and our institutions are such that they have made a thief the owner of the house. What is happening in the country, he asked.

But what has happened is good because people are angry and realised what has happened is wrong, Thackeray added.

Taking a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Thackeray said, “‘Mogambo khush hua’ on the Election Commission order.”

Thackeray said the BJP pushed him towards joining hands with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as it dishonoured a commitment given.

“I have left the BJP and not Hindutva. I don’t accept BJP’s Hindutva which divides people. The BJP is misleading Hindus, who are now awakened, by bringing issues like ‘hijab’ and cow slaughter during elections. There was a Hindu Akrosh Morcha in Mumbai recently. Why should Hindus make ‘akrosh’ when a powerful leader is ruling the country,” he asked.

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thackeray said, “The leader whom we voted for a strong India, himself became strong while the country has become weak.”

Terming as “injustice” the EC’s decision to allot Shiv Sena name and party symbol to the Shinde faction, he said, “This is dirty politics. If you wanted to fight against Shiv Sena, you could have come on the poll field and let people decide.”

Thackeray said Shiv Sena was never against Muslims and north Indians.

“All those who consider India as their motherland are our brothers,” he said.

This is Thackeray’s second interaction with members of the north Indian community settled in Mumbai by Thackeray in the last few days.
