Volunteers Against Hate (VAH) is a team of like-minded people that aims to combat hate, prejudice, and discrimination in all its forms. On March 6, 2023, the team was formed by Dr. Meraj Husain (Senior Congress Leader and Ex Member CBFC-GOI) to help victims of hate crime from all oppressed sections of society. He resigned from the congress party on February 21, 2023, on the Junaid-Nasir issue after visiting their home in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, and citing lack of action by the Gehlot’s Govt. and cold behavior of the congress high command on Muslim issues and lack of willingness on taking a stand on their behalf. He saw a need for a more proactive approach to addressing hate crimes and discrimination in their communities.

The National Convenor of VAH aims to build a pan-India team that provides legal support to the victims of hate crime all across the country along with raising voices for the rehabilitation of victims and to educate the public about the effects of hate and prejudice on individuals and society as a whole. And to advocate for policies and laws that promote equality and tolerance.

Bengaluru volunteers send relief supplies to victims in Turkey, Syria

New Delhi: A group of volunteers from Bengaluru has sent relief material for the earthquake victims of Turkiye and Syria via the Turkish embassy in New Delhi.

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkiye and neighbouring Syria on February 6 and the large aftershocks that followed destroyed thousands of buildings and claimed more than 39,000 lives.

More than 1,000 blankets to the Embassy of Turkey and a monetary donation to the Embassy of Syria were sent on Wednesday by the volunteers, in association with Aarogya Seva, an international humanitarian aid agency, and Vananam Ventures.

“We are happy to be able to contribute to the relief efforts for those affected by the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria. We hope our donation of 1,000 blankets to the Embassy of Turkey and the monetary donation to the Embassy of Syria will help in some small way to ease the suffering of those impacted by this tragedy,” Puneeth T, a volunteer from Bengaluru, said.

  • Peace Corps evacuates volunteers from Peru amid worsening political crisis

Peace Corps evacuates volunteers from Peru amid worsening political crisis

    peru unrest 16683

A person familiar with the move, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive withdrawal, said the volunteers are headed to the Peace Corps’ post in Ecuador.

The decision comes after weeks of popular unrest against a government that has taken over following a failed December coup attempt by a Peruvian president facing impeachment. The South American country has had a politically tumultuous few years, cycling through several presidents amid various corruption and other scandals.

Peace Corps volunteers often work in areas far from national capitals and with less immediate protections than U.S. diplomats — meaning they are sometimes the first group of U.S. workers to be evacuated when unrest hits.

Though the U.S. has issued some travel alerts for Peru, there’s no current indication that the U.S. Embassy in Peru, U.S. Agency for International Development officials or other government agents are leaving the country.

The Peace Corps has a long, though somewhat intermittent history in Peru. Hundreds of volunteers cycled through the country between 1962 and 1975, when the program closed due to political and economic instability. It returned to the country in 2002.

Analysts are fearful that the situation in Peru — and the conditions that allowed Peace Corps volunteers to work there — aren’t set to improve.

“The government has doubled down on the crackdowns,” said Jo-Marie Burt, a professor of Latin America studies at George Mason University. “Things are going to get worse before they get better.”
