NGO team stopped by police from visiting violence-hit Howrah

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: A six-member team of an NGO was stopped by the police from visiting the violence-hit areas of Howrah district on Sunday, officials said.

The ‘fact-finding’ team, led by retired Patna High Court judge L Narasimha Reddy, was stopped at the Vidyasagar Setu toll plaza when they were heading towards Kazipara in Shibpur, which was rocked by clashes on Ram Navami.

Members of the team had a heated argument with the police after they were stopped. After waiting for around 30 minutes, they returned to their hotel in Kolkata.

    MS Education Academy

Police said they were not allowed to visit the area as prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC were still in force.

On Saturday, the team was also stopped by the police from visiting Hooghly’s Rishra and Serampore where similar violence broke out during Ram Navami celebrations last week.

The TMC claimed that the BJP was behind the NGO, which sent the team to the area.

“When the violence-hit areas of Howrah and Hooghly are returning to normal, such visits will only trigger tension. Police are working as per the high court’s directive,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.

“The BJP is behind such NGOs. BJP created trouble in both Shibpur and Rishra. Now, they don’t want normalcy to return,” he alleged.

The BJP on the other side claimed that the police stopped the NGO as the state government was attempting to hide the atrocities committed in those areas.

“The Mamata Banerjee government wants to hide the atrocities committed in parts of Howrah and Hooghly against the ordinary people,” BJP leader Rahul Sinha alleged.

  • AIMIM Bihar chief stopped from visiting Ram Navami violence-hit areas

AIMIM Bihar chief stopped from visiting Ram Navami violence-hit areas

    [ad_1]

Days after of Ram Navami communal clashes in Bihar Sharif, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) group led by its Bihar unit president Akhtarul Iman tried to visit the violence-hit area in Bihar Sharif on Thursday, was stopped by Bihar authorities.

While taking a dig at Nitish Kumar, AIMIM’s sole MLA Iman alleged that the CM of Bihar has used Nalanda District Administration for stopping them from visiting Bihar Sharif.

“Earlier same DM Nalanda had given permission to visit Bihar Sharif. We will continue to raise our voices for minorities and weaker sections. Mr Nitish Kumar is busy in Iftaar Party but no time to visit Bihar Sharif,” he alleged.

    MS Education Academy

Iman also alleged that he was halted earlier too when he wanted to visit the violence-hit city to take stock of the situation there.

“On April 4, I informed DM about my visit to Bihar Sharif and he responded that the authorities are controlling the situation and asked me to come later. When I questioned about the visits of BJP, Congress and other party leaders then why I am not allowed to visit there, he told me that they had come to meet me,” he said.

He went on to say, “I asked DM what compensation has been decided for those whose homes have been burnt down “

On Wednesday, before visiting Bihar Sharif, Iman attacked Bihar CM Nitish Kumar over his previous connection with BJP.

“Our honourable CM Nitish Kumar is the feeder of all rioters in Bihar because they are associated with BJP,” Iman alleged.

Earlier on Tuesday at a press conference, Owaisi condemned the anti-muslim flare-up during the Ram Navami festivities in Bihar AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi down heavily on the Nitish Kumar government and alleged the CM of Bihar has no remorse over the fatal communal clashes.

Owaisi termed the episode of Bihar Sharif a complete failure of the state government and alleged they failed to take appropriate action to stop the violence despite knowing such situations might rise.

“Whenever there is violence in a state, the accountability falls on the state government. Mosque and Madrasa Azizia in Bihar Sharif were burnt down, and shops, vehicles, and homes belonging to Muslims were targeted,” Owaisi said.

“This clearly shows that there is a big plot behind it. Nitish and Tejaswi’s governments knew Nalanda is a communally sensitive district, yet violence erupted there. He (Nitish Kumar) has no remorse, yesterday he even attended an iftar party,” he added.

However, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday rejected BJP and AIMIM’s allegations of administration failure in the recent communal violence.

Nitish Kumar claimed that the communal disturbances at both places were cleverly plotted by some people.

While making a veiled attack on Union home minister Amit Shah, he said, in one place where he (Shah) had to visit, the clashes were deliberately orchestrated. The other place is Bihar Sharif. The type of mischief they planned in Bihar Sharif, it all will be exposed after a few days.”

Nitish stated that Shah cancelled his visit to Sasaram which was scheduled for Sunday to address a rally in honour of Mauryan emperor Ashoka.

On Sunday, Nitish Kumar held a high-level meeting over the violence in Sarsaram and Bihar Sharif.

He directed state police to be vigilant and announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased.

During the Ram Navami festival, in Nalanda’s Bihar Sharif, one person died and several others were injured after fatal communal clashes broke out. Sarsaram town of Rohatas district also witnessed a blast in which six people were injured.

On Sunday, Nalanda police stated that more than 75 people were arrested in raids after the clashes.

AIMIM leaders visiting every constituency in Rajasthan: Owaisi

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, who has been trying to strengthen his party’s base in poll-bound Rajasthan, on Sunday said party leaders are visiting every assembly constituency in the state to strengthen the organisation.

Owaisi, who is on a two-day visit to Rajasthan, also said that it is too early to announce the number of seats his party will contest in the assembly polls.

Assembly elections in Rajasthan are due later this year.

“We have come to Rajasthan to strengthen our party ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. My visit was pre-scheduled. Core committee members are visiting every assembly constituency to strengthen the organisation,” the Hyderabad MP told reporters in Tonk.

“Core committee will announce on how many seats the party will contest in the elections. It is too early to comment,” he said.

When asked whether his party has any big face to contest against Congress’ Sachin Pilot, the AIMIM chief said, “There are several faces. When he can land through parachute, then we can also.”

Speaking about the deaths of Junaid and Nasir who were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes from Bharatpur and their charred bodies were found in Haryana, Owaisi said, “Both Haryana and Rajasthan governments are not serious. Haryana government is saving the accused. If Rajasthan government is serious, then it should send police and arrest the accused.”

Hyderabad: Congress leaders stopped from visiting fire-hit secretariat; detained

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders on Friday were stopped from visiting the fire-hit secretariat and were detained by the police.

The fire broke out in the yet-to-be-inaugurated Secretariat complex of the Telangana government here in the wee hours of Friday.

The new Secretariat complex is set to be inaugurated by chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on February 17, which happens to be his birthday.

The fire, which started on the ground floor around 2.30 a.m., spread to the first and second floors. Fire tenders rushed to the scene and doused the flames after battling the fire for two hours.

A total of 11 fire engines were pressed into service to control the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. The fire is believed to have started from the air conditioning wiring duct and spread to scrap material lying on the ground floor.

Nagi Reddy, director general of the state fire department, personally monitored the firefighting operation.

Details of the damage caused by the fire were awaited. Officials said the cause of the fire was being investigated.

TPCC chief Revanth Reddy condemned the detention and questioned if the government held any secrets in the secretariat. “Is it KCR’s private farm house?” he asked.

The seven-storey structure with a built-up area of 7 lakh square feet and equipped with all modern facilities has been constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 650 crore near Hussain Sagar lake on the same land where the old Secretariats of Telangana and earlier united Andhra Pradesh stood.

The state government has named the new Secretariat complex after Dr B. R. Ambedkar. CM KCR already stated that it reflects the pride of Telangana and would stand as a role model for other states.

As per the schedule announced last week, CM KCR will inaugurate the building between 11.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on February 17, the auspicious time suggested by Vedic pundits.

The government recently announced that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister andA DMK President M. K. Stalin, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, JD(U) national president Lalan Singh as representative of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Dr B. R Ambedkar’s grandson Prakash Ambedkar and other dignitaries will attend the inaugural event.
