India rejects China’s ‘objection’ to Amit Shah’s Arunachal Pradesh visit

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: India on Tuesday rejected China’s “objection” to Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, making it clear that the state is and will always remain an integral part of India.

A statement issued by external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said: “We completely reject the comments made by the Chinese Official Spokesperson. Indian leaders routinely travel to the state of Arunachal Pradesh as they do to any other state of India. Arunachal Pradesh was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”

The statement further said that “objecting to such visits does not stand to reason and will not change the above reality”.

Earlier in a clear message to China from the border village of Kibithoo in Arunachal Pradesh, Shah on Monday had said no one can dare cast an evil eye on India’s territorial integrity and encroach even an “inch of our land”.

UK’s Truss warns of Western ‘weakness’ over China in wake of Macron visit

    [ad_1]

    britain truss in trouble 90515

LONDON — Former U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss will take a not-so-subtle swipe at Emmanuel Macron over his attempt to build bridges with Beijing.

In a Wednesday morning speech to the Heritage Foundation think tank in Washington, D.C. Truss will argue that too many in the West have “appeased and accommodated” authoritarian regimes in China and Russia.

And she will say it is a “sign of weakness” for Western leaders to visit China and ask premier Xi Jinping for his support in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — just days after Macron’s own high-profile trip there.

While Truss — who left office after just six weeks as crisis-hit U.K. prime minister — will not mention Macron by name, her comments follow an interview with POLITICO in which the French president said Europe should resist pressure to become “America’s followers.”

Macron said: “The question Europeans need to answer … is it in our interest to accelerate [a crisis] on Taiwan? No. The worse thing would be to think that we Europeans must become followers on this topic and take our cue from the U.S. agenda and a Chinese overreaction.”

Macron has already been criticized for those comments by the IPAC group of China-skeptic lawmakers, which said Monday his remarks were “ill-judged.”

And Truss — who had a frosty relationship with Macron during her brief stint in office last year — will use her speech to urge a more aggressive stance toward both China and Russia.

“We’ve seen Vladimir Putin launching an unprovoked attack on a free and democratic neighbor, we see the Chinese building up their armaments and their arsenal and menacing the free and democratic Taiwan,” Truss will say according to pre-released remarks. “Too many in the West have appeased and accommodated these regimes.”

She will add: “Western leaders visiting President Xi to ask for his support in ending the war is a mistake — and it is a sign of weakness. Instead our energies should go into taking more measures to support Taiwan. We need to make sure Taiwan is able to defend itself.”

Relations between Macron and Truss’ successor Rishi Sunak have been notably warmer. The pair hailed a “new chapter” in U.K.-France ties in March, after concluding a deal on cross-Channel migration.

  • China opposes Amit Shah’s visit days after renaming 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh

China opposes Amit Shah’s visit days after renaming 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh

    [ad_1]

Beijing: China on Monday criticised Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, stating that it violated Chinese sovereignty over the area, a claim outrightly dismissed by India.

Home Minister Shah on Monday launched Vibrant Villages Programme’ from Kibithoo, the border village of Arunachal Pradesh and India’s easternmost place.

“Zangnan, (the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh) is China’s territory,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a media briefing here while answering a question on Shah’s visit to the area.

    MS Education Academy

“Indian officials’ activities in this area violate China’s sovereignty and (are) not conducive to peace and tranquility in the border regions. We firmly oppose it,” he said.

India last week outrightly rejected China renaming some places in Arunachal Pradesh, asserting that the state is an integral part of India and assigning “invented” names does not alter this reality.

India’s reaction came in response to Beijing announcing Chinese names for 11 more places in Arunachal Pradesh which the neighbouring country claims as Southern Tibet.

“We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject this outright,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in New Delhi.

“Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Attempts to assign invented names will not alter this reality,” he said.

It was the third batch of standardised geographical names for Arunachal Pradesh issued by China’s civil affairs ministry.

The first batch of the standardised names of six places in Arunachal Pradesh was released in 2017 while the second batch of 15 places was issued in 2021.

China’s renaming of the places in Arunachal Pradesh came in the midst of the lingering eastern Ladakh border standoff that began in May 2020.

Following the standoff, India bolstered its overall military preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Arunachal Pradesh sector as well.

Last month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the situation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh remained “very fragile” and is “quite dangerous” in military assessment because of close deployments of troops of both sides in some pockets though “substantial” progress has been made in the disengagement process in many areas.

The Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a nearly three-year confrontation in certain friction points in eastern Ladakh even as the two sides completed disengagement of troops from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks.

India has been maintaining that its ties with China cannot be normal unless there is peace in the border areas.

Tehran: A technical team from Iran will “probably” travel to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to prepare for the reopening of the Iranian embassy in Riyadh.

The team would visit the building of the Iranian embassy and prepare the ground for its reopening, Xinhua news agency reported.

Alireza Enayati, a Director General of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, confirmed that an Iranian technical delegation will visit Saudi Arabia “this week” to do the preliminary work for the embassy’s reopening, without giving the exact date of the trip, the Iran Press news agency on Sunday reported.

On Saturday, a technical delegation from Saudi Arabia arrived in Iran to assess the situation and discuss the procedures for the reopening of the Saudi embassy and consulate general in the country, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud signed a joint statement in Beijing, announcing the resumption of diplomatic relations.

  • Amit Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, rap on knuckles of China

Amit Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, rap on knuckles of China

    [ad_1]

On Monday, Union  Home Minister Amit Shah will be in Arunachal Pradesh to launch the “Vibrant Village Programme”. It may be a coincidence or otherwise already planned schedule that the visit is coming a week after China renamed 11  places in the state, which it claims, is its area. His visit is a strategic rebuff to China, and also an assertive note to the world that India would not tolerate any rhetoric that tends to undermine its sovereignty. The message is loud and clear.

The ‘Vibrant Village Programme’ will be launched at Kibithoo village, which sits on the edges of the Line of  Actual Control in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. The LAC defines boundaries with China and China has been playing the game of renaming places since 2017, and it asserts that the territory is within the geography over which it has sovereignty.

At this point in time, the visit of the Home Minister and the launching of a specially designed program to help the border populations across the regions in the country assumes strategic significance. The timing is crucial, and so is the program that he is going to launch. The schemes, which benefit the people, are meant for the people who believe in living under one flag and singing the national anthem. So, what Amit Shah is trying to tell the people is that India is all for taking care of them, whether they sit in the remotest corners of the country, or in the hinterland.

    MS Education Academy

The ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ (VVP) with central components of Rs.4800 crore including Rs.2500 crore exclusively for road connectivity for the Financial Years 2022-23 to 2025-26. VVP is a centrally sponsored scheme under which 2967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts abutting the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh, and UT of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development. In the first phase, 662 villages have been identified for priority coverage, which includes 455 villages in Arunachal Pradesh.

A closer look at the scheme and the geography reveals that there is a focus on the villages across the states/union territories, which are having borders with China. There also is a mention of the UT of Ladakh, where India is locked in a stiff standoff with the Chinese army.  This standoff is three-year-old; there is no sign of it coming to an end anytime soon because of the intransigence of Beijing not to honour the commitments made in peace and tranquillity not to make any attempt to change the status of the LAC militarily. China has not attempted that only, but it has also raised hype over the issues by naming of the places, like it did in case of Arunachal Pradesh, to cause political and diplomatic consternation and confrontation.

China renamed 11 places in Arunachal  Pradesh on April 3, days after it successfully brokered a peace agreement between Saudi Arabi and Iran, two regional rivals in the Arab world, and also after Chinese president Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia where he reaffirmed his country’s ‘no limits’ friendship with Moscow. China, it may be admitted, though with grudges,  has emerged as a global power, seeking to expand its military and soft power influence in various parts of the world. These things tell that it wanted to overwhelm the world, and especially India, so it renamed the places.

Now when Home Minister will be visiting  Arunachal Pradesh on Monday to launch a mega scheme that will benefit   2,967 villages in four states and one union territory,  the visit carries a very strong message that China may have the right to do its diplomatic work and strut on the world stage as a leader, but it has no right to make any attempt to undermine the Indian sovereignty, and that this country knows how to answer all the flawed narratives emanating from  Beijing.

The development capsule of the “Vibrant Villages Programme”  is aimed at helping in improvement of the quality of life living in the identified border villages and encourage people to stay in their native locations thereby reversing the outmigration from these villages and adding to the security of the border. District Administration with the help of appropriate mechanisms at block and panchayat level will prepare Action Plans for identified village to ensure 100% saturation of central and state schemes.

“The focus areas of interventions identified for development of villages include road connectivity, drinking water, electricity including solar and wind energy, mobile and internet connectivity, tourist centers, multi-purpose centers and healthcare infrastructure and wellness centers,” is the underlined purpose of the scheme.

  • Saudi Arabia frees 13 Houthi prisoners as Omani officials visit Sanaa

Saudi Arabia frees 13 Houthi prisoners as Omani officials visit Sanaa

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has released 13 Houthi prisoners, in exchange for a Saudi prisoner who was released earlier.

The release on Saturday came as Omani officials arrived in the Yemeni capital Sanaa as part of international efforts to end the years-long conflict in Yemen.

The head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abd al-Qadir al-Murtada took to Twitter on Saturday, wrote, “Today, we received 13 Houthi prisoners and detainees who were released by the Saudi authorities in Sana’a International Airport in exchange for a Saudi prisoner whom we released earlier.”

    MS Education Academy

He adds, “We hope that this step will be a prelude to the implementation of the deal agreed upon at the end of this week.”

Al-Murtada said, “The prisoners released today from Saudi prisons are part of the deal agreed upon by the United Nations.”

Al-Murtada indicated that the rest of the steps related to the full implementation of the deal will be completed next Thursday.

On March 20, 2023, the Yemeni government announced an agreement with the Houthi group to release 887 prisoners and abductees from both sides, including Saudis and Sudanese, at the conclusion of consultations held in Switzerland regarding the exchange of prisoners between the two parties.

In March 2022, the Yemeni government signed an agreement with the Houthis under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) to exchange more than 2,200 prisoners from both sides, but the process of their release stalled amid mutual accusations of obstructing it.

During consultations in Sweden in 2018, the two parties submitted lists of more than 15,000 prisoners, detainees and abductees, but no accurate official count of numbers is available after this date.

Yemen is suffering from a war that began after the Houthis took control of the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces at the end of 2014, and the conflict escalated since March 2015, after an Arab military coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened to support the legitimate government forces, in the face of the Iranian-backed Houthi group.

  • PM Modi’s Telangana visit was highly disappointing: Uttam

PM Modi’s Telangana visit was highly disappointing: Uttam

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Congress MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed his disappointment over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana on Saturday, as the Prime Minister did not announce any significant projects for the state.

Uttam Kumar Reddy pointed out that most projects inaugurated by PM Modi had already been announced years ago and were significantly delayed. Instead of acknowledging these delays, Modi treated them as if they were new initiatives. For example, the AIIMS Bibinagar project, approved four years ago, has faced delays due to the negligence of Modi’s government. Rather than apologizing for the delay, PM Modi ceremoniously laid the foundation stone again without providing a completion deadline.

He highlighted that AIIMS Bibinagar was approved by the Union Cabinet on December 17, 2018, with Rs. 1,028 crores allocated for the project. Only Rs. 31.71 crore has been released so far. The project’s original completion deadline of September 2022 has been extended multiple times, most recently to January 2025. However, the Centre has remained silent on the current deadline.

    MS Education Academy

The delay in constructing AIIMS Bibinagar has been raised numerous times between November 2019 and December 2021. Despite the Centre acknowledging the delays and providing updated deadlines, Uttam Kumar Reddy noted that only a small fraction of the allocated funds have been spent on the project.

Furthermore, Reddy stated that the BJP government has not taken steps to fill sanctioned positions within AIIMS Bibinagar, leaving many faculty and non-faculty posts vacant.

The Congress MP also accused the BJP government of deliberate discrimination against Telangana. While the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act mandated the establishment of an AIIMS in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Centre has released more than 50% of allocated funds for 14 out of 16 AIIMS across the country, but only a fraction of the funds for Telangana’s AIIMS.

“PM Modi recently pledged to spend Rs. 1,366 crores on AIIMS Bibinagar’s construction but did not provide an explanation for the project’s delays. Additionally, he did not address other unfulfilled promises such as the Railway Coach Factory at Qazipet, the Steel Plant at Bayyaram, and other assurances given to Telangana in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014,” he said.
