  • Out on parole, Dera chief Ram Rahim cuts cake with sword; video goes viral

Out on parole, Dera chief Ram Rahim cuts cake with sword; video goes viral

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Currently out on parole, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was seen “celebrating” by cutting a cake with a sword.

The Sirsa-Dera chief who is serving a 20-year jail term for rape and murder, walked out on a 40 day parole from the Sunaria Jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district on Saturday and arrived at his Barnawa Ashram in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat.

A video of the celebration by Ram Rahim with the giant cake has gone viral on social media.

In his bail application, Ram Rahim had said that he wants to attend an event to mark the birth anniversary of former dera chief Shah Satnam Singh on January 25.

In the purported video that has surfaced on social media, the Dera chief can be heard saying, “Got a chance after five years to celebrate like this so I should cut at least five cakes. This is the first cake.”

Incidentally, public display of weapons i.e cutting a cake with a sword is prohibited under the Arms Act.

Ram Rahim had on Monday virtually inaugurated a mega cleanliness campaign organized by his sect’s volunteers across multiple locations in Haryana and in some other states. A few senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from Haryana, including Rajya Sabha MP Krishan Lal Panwar and former minister Krishan Kumar Bedi, also participated in the event.

This is the fourth time in the last 14 months and the second time in less than three months that Ram Rahim has been granted parole. Earlier, he was released on parole for 40 days in October 2022 ahead of the Haryana panchayat election and the Adampur Assembly bypoll.

He was convicted by a special CBI court in Panchkula in August 2017 for raping two women followers. CBI had registered the case on the orders passed by the High Court of Punjab and Haryana in 2003 and taken over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Police Station Sadar in Kurukshetra.

It was alleged that Ranjit Singh, a resident of village Khanpur Kolian, Kurukshetra was murdered on July 10, 2002, when he was working in his fields at village Khanpur Kolian of District Kurukshetra in Haryana.

After a thorough investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet in 2007 against six accused and charges were framed in 2008 while, on October 8, 2021, the court convicted Rahim and four others in connection with former Dera manager Ranjit Singh’s murder case.

Try these natural home remedies to combat viral infection

    [ad_1]

These days, viral fever is a prevalent illness that affects both adults and children. One of the risk factors for viral fever during this season is the shift in the climate. Most airborne infections, which we contract through the air we breathe and can potentially spread from an infected person, are what cause viral fever. Humans are vulnerable to a variety of viral illnesses, including the common cold and the flu. The most typical sign of many viral infections is a mild fever or low-grade fever. Do not worry; a mild viral fever can be well treated at home with a well-balanced diet that includes many comforting foods, plenty of drinks, and appropriate rest. In addition to this, Mother Nature has bestowed upon us a wide variety of herbs that function as a wonderful natural cure for treating viral fever. To treat low-grade viral fever, though, try some of these all-natural treatments if the fever doesn’t go away right away.

    Honey Ginger Tea

Ginger’s extraordinary ability to relieve pain and lessen the symptoms of viral fever is made possible by its significant anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic capabilities. Strong antibacterial qualities in honey help treat coughs and reduce the severity of infections. To relieve viral fever, steep one teaspoon of grated ginger in a cup of water for two to five minutes. Strain the mixture, then add one teaspoon of honey.

    Black pepper

Due to its remarkable healing and balancing effects, black pepper is a multipurpose spice that is frequently used in Ayurveda. It is helpful in treating respiratory conditions because it is brimming with powerful antibacterial and antibiotic characteristics. Black pepper also supports the development of a strong immune system and the prevention of sickness because it is high in vitamin C.

    Ajwain

Indian traditional medicine often prescribes ajwain, or carom seeds, as a home cure for colds and coughs. Additionally, they provide a high amount of fibre, vitamins, and minerals.

    Fennel

Fennel, also known as saunf, is a very common spice in Indian cuisine and is effective against a variety of viruses that may cause respiratory tract infections and prolonged fevers. The presence of a substance known as trans-anethole causes fennel extracts to have potent antiviral properties. Additionally, it may strengthen your immune system to help you recover more quickly from the infection that is thought to be the main contributor to your chronic fever.

    Tulsi Tea

Volatile oils including eugenol, citronellol, and linalool found in tulsi leaves help to reduce inflammation. Amid BBC documentary row, Twitter handle narendramodi_in’s 2013 tweet goes viral

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Amid row over the BBC documentary “India: The Modi Question”, an old tweet from the Twitter handle narendramodi_in went viral on social media.

In the tweet, it was written, “Till there was DD, Akashvani, what did common people discuss- we heard it on BBC…there was no faith in DD, Akashvani: @narendramodi”.

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair shares tweet

Sharing the tweet, Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair tweeted, ‘National TV vs I̶n̶t̶e̶r̶(Anti)National. Ekdum se Paper badal diye Channel badal diye TV badal di.’

The same tweet was also retweeted by AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Chairman of Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Y Sathish Reddy.

    What is BBC documentary row?

UK’s BBC aired a documentary attacking PM Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister during the Gujarat riots of 2002. The documentary sparked outrage and was removed from select platforms.

The outline summary of the series says that it’s “A look at tensions between Indian PM Narendra Modi and India’s Muslim minority, investigating claims about his role in the 2002 riots that left over a thousand dead”.

Amid controversy, India has dismissed it as a “propaganda piece”, saying it is designed to push a particular “discredited narrative” and that the continuing colonial mindset is “blatantly visible” in the series.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi also wondered about the purpose of the documentary and the “agenda” behind it and said “frankly we do not wish to dignify such efforts”.

    BBC defends Modi documentary

Later, BBC defended its controversial series as a “rigorously researched” documentary that sought to highlight important issues.

“The documentary was rigorously researched according to the highest editorial standards,” a BBC spokesperson said in a statement.

  • ‘Memes to dreams’: viral Popeyes boy finally reaps reward of online fame

‘Memes to dreams’: viral Popeyes boy finally reaps reward of online fame

    [ad_1]

A decade has passed, but at last the star of the internet meme showing a boy glancing sideways in confusion with a cup in his hand while standing in line at a Popeyes is capitalizing on his viral fame.

Dieunerst Collin, an 18-year-old player for the football team at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, can finally cash in on his online fame thanks to a change in policy from an organization which governs collegiate sports in the US that in 2021 enabled student athletes to earn money from sponsorship opportunities.

“The moment that made us a meme – we didn’t ask for it,” Collin said in a social media video that Popeyes posted last week announcing that the fast-food chain had signed him to a deal that would feature him on billboards and other advertisements. “But don’t worry little man, we didn’t let it stop us.”

Collin became internet famous when he was nine and went to Popeyes to pick up a family pack of chicken, biscuits and fries in Irvington, New Jersey. A stranger who believed Collin resembled a boy who was known on social media at the time for his dance moves pulled out his phone and started recording him while he stood in line holding a cup of lemonade.

Baffled as to why the stranger was recording him, Collin shot over a sideways look. The stranger then published the clip on Vine, the defunct video-sharing application. It went viral and has been used countless times on social media, typically paired with captions declaring discomfort or obfuscation.

Collin’s family initially resented the viral image. They tried to get it scrubbed from the internet, and he was annoyed people would call him by the name of the dancing boy whom the stranger thought Collin looked like.

“I just never thought it would get that big,” Collin said, according to a CNN report published on Friday.

Yet Collin ultimately embraced the meme’s enduring popularity. When he helped his high school win a New Jersey state championship in football in 2021, he posed with the trophy and a side-eyed expression that harkened back to his history as a meme star, local news outlet NJ.com reported.

“From Popeyes to state champion!” a Twitter user wrote in a post containing a picture of Collin’s meme and of him holding the trophy he won with his school.

Collin once again went viral thanks to that tweet, which was shared widely. Only this time, he ended up with an endorsement deal.

On 8 January, after enrolling at Lake Erie to play football and study communications, Collin used his Instagram account and a screenshot of the viral state champion tweet to write a message to Popeyes.

“I just wanna talk business,” Collin wrote, his appeal to Popeyes being boosted by other prominent social media users.

By 12 January, Popeyes signed Collins to one of the so-called name, image and likeness (NIL) deals that the NCAA legalized less than two years ago.

“From memes to dreams, Dieunerst and Popeyes will grace social media feeds once again,” said a statement from Popeyes about the endorsement deal.

Collin has declined to discuss the terms of his deal with Popeyes.

But Popeyes has now put up a billboard with pictures of him then – in line all those years ago – and now in his home town of East Orange, New Jersey. The chain has urged followers to “keep an eye out for other fun [Collin] content”.

Collin told CNN he is – if nothing else – proof of one truism: “A lot can happen with the power of the internet behind you.”
