    Bengaluru: Newborn in plastic bag falls off garbage truck; run over by vehicles

    Bengaluru: A shocking incident of a newborn wrapped in a plastic bag being run over by several vehicles came to light in Bengaluru on Sunday.

    The incident took place in Pampa Layout of Amruthahalli locality of Bengaluru. According to police, the baby, aged four to five months, was wrapped in a plastic cover and thrown into a BBMP garbage truck.

    The bag containing the baby fell down from the truck and the vehicles plying on the road ran over it.

    The police said that since the body was disfigured, they have not been able to determine whether it is a boy or a girl. It is suspected that the culprits abandoned the baby to conceal the birth.

    Some people, who noticed the cover with the dead body inside, informed the police. More details are awaited.

    SRINAGAR: A man died while another one was injured in an accident that took place in Sheeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.

    Quoting an official, news agency KNO reported that a head on collision between two vehicles took place at Sheeri, resulting in injuries to two persons.

    He said soon after the incident injured were immediately rushed to a nearby health facility, however, one of them was declared dead on arrival.

    The deceased was identified as Bashir Ahmed Ahanger of Jalal Sahib Baramulla.

    Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.

    SRINAGAR: Acting tough against the persons involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, police have arrested 07 persons and seized 07 vehicles in Budgam and Baramulla.

    In Budgam, Police Station Chadoora received information that some unknown persons are illegally extracting soil from Government land at Hayatpora Chadoora. Accordingly, a police party at Police Station Chadoora seized 03 clay-laden tippers and arrested 03 persons on spot. The arrested persons have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Ahad Dar resident of Rawalpora, Danish Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat resident of Gowherpora & Mehraj-Ud-Din Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani resident of Zolwa.

    In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO PS Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Shri Javid Ahmad-JKPS during naka checking at Tarhama Kunzer arrested 03 persons and seized 03 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from Ferozpora Nallah Kunzer Baramulla. They have been identified as Abdul Khaliq Rah son of Ab Rahman resident of Nundreshi Colony Bemina, Dawood Ahmad Malla son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Aboora & Zubair Ahmad Wani son of Hafizullah Wani resident of Katchmatpora.

    Meanwhile, in another action, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri Shri Khalid Ashraf-JKPS assisted by Incharge PP Wagoora, during routine patrolling at Ningli Nallah Wagoora arrested 01 person and seized a vehicle involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from Ningli Nallah Wagoora. He has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of the Late Abdul Ahad resident of Wagoora Kreeri.

    All the accused persons have been shifted to Police Stations where they remain in custody and cases under relevant sections of law stand registered against them at respective police stations.

    SRINAGAR: Acting tough against the persons involved in illegal extraction/mining and transportation of minerals, Police have arrested 04 persons and seized 04 vehicles in Budgam.

    A police party of Police Station Chadoora during patrolling at Aalipora Chadoora intercepted 04 vehicles (Tippers) bearing registration numbers JK03J-6145, JK03C-8254, JK04B-055, and JK13A-0470 carrying illegally extracted bed material from Nalla Shaliganga Chadoora. Subsequently, all 04 tippers were seized & 04 drivers of the said vehicles were arrested on the spot. They have been identified as Abid Hussain Bhat son of Maqbool Bhat resident of Chadoora, Gulam Muhammad Wani son of Abdul Kabir resident of Kakawring Charar Sharief, Younis Farooq Yatoo son of Farooq Ahmad resident of Nagam Chadoora, and Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of Gulam Nabi resident of Dooniwari, Chadoora. They have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.

    Accordingly, a case with FIR No. 25/2023 under relevant sections of laws has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and an investigation has been initiated.

    Persons found indulging in illegal extraction/mining activities shall be dealt with as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighborhood with their concerned police units.

    Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at Mubeen colony, Rein Bazaar under Madannapet police station limits when unidentified persons burned four vehicles parked at a house early on Sunday.

    According to Hameed Ali, whose vehicle was burned, said around 4 am, one person wearing a mask came after opening the gate of the building and set on fire four vehicles including a car. The arsonist escaped from the spot soon after.

    After noticing the vehicle burning down the local people gathered and poured water to douse the fire. The Madannapet police came to the spot and used a fire extinguisher to douse the fire. Fire personnel also reached the spot.

    Soon afterwards, taking into account the sensitivity of the area to communal violence or rumours, additional forces were deployed.

    Police are checking the footage of the closed-circuit cameras to identify the persons.

    A case is booked at the Madannapet police station.

    ARTO Budgam blacklists 25 vehicles, suspends 3 route permits, 2 licenses for road safety violations

    Acting tough against the traffic law violators, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Budgam Manzoor Ahmad today blacklisted as many as 25 vehicles, suspended 3 route permits and 2 driving licenses for violations against traffic rule and road safety violations.

    A checking, enforcement team led by ARTO conducted day-long checking of vehicles in Chadoora area of Budgam and during the drive more than 100 vehicles were checked for traffic rule/road safety violations.

    During the drive, as many as 25 vehicles were blacklisted on the spot, while 2 driving licenses and 3 route permits were processed for suspension.

    Documents of 25 vehicles were retained for further processing under the provisions of MV Act 1988 and rules framed thereunder.

    An amount of Rs. 30000 as fine is also expected to be realized from offending vehicles/drivers.

    The ARTO said that drive shall continue in Towns and Rural areas of the district and strict action as per the law shall be taken against the erring drivers for road safety violations.

    KULGAM, FEBRUARY 20: In continuation to its enforcement drive, a team of Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) headed by ARTO Kulgam today blacklisted 24 vehicles for violating Traffic rules including Overloading, Overcharging of fare, plying without SLD and other violations.

    The action against the erring was taken during checking carried out by the team as part of ongoing enforcement drive. Around 150 Vehicles plying on various routes in Kulgam including Lirrow, Behibagh, Bolus and Yaripora Routes were checked.

    ARTO Kulgam said that MVD shall act sternly against rules violations concerning speed limiting devices, extra fittings, unauthorised modifications.

    He added that the inspections by the Motor Vehicles department would continue and shall be intensified in near future across the district.

    ARTO also said that the Motor Vehicles Department Kulgam had already suspended multiple route permits and driving licences.

    Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Sunday checked over 6,000 vehicles and issued challans to 366 violators during a special operation under which check-points were put up at 131 entry and exit points of 10 inter-state border districts, officials said.

    The police also impounded 32 vehicles, they said.

    Thirty-three FIRs were also registered and three proclaimed offenders arrested during the operation, police said, adding that 70kg poppy husk, 1kg charas, 110 grams heroin and Rs 1 lakh drug money was also seized.

    Amid the ongoing drive against drugs and anti-social elements launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Police conducted “Operation Seal” which was aimed at checking vehicles entering the state, an official statement said.

    The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.

    “Well-coordinated strong nakas involving 1,600 police personnel were set-up under the supervision of inspectors, DSPs at all the 131 entry/exit points of 10 districts, which share boundaries with Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Haryana,” it said.

    The 10 inter-state border districts are Pathankot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Rupnagar, Mohali, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Hoshiarpur, and Bathinda, the statement said.

    “The operation was conducted in a synchronised manner from 8 am to 2 pm and all the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSPs) were asked to mobilise a maximum number of officers and manpower for this operation to lay strong ‘nakas’ at sealing points under the supervision of the gazetted officers/SHOs,” said the statement.

    In a statement, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said “the objective of this operation was to keep check on illegal drug trafficking and illicit liquor smuggling, besides, movement of gangsters and anti social elements.”

    He said during the operation, a thorough search of suspected vehicles/persons was ensured while ensuring that minimum inconvenience is caused to the general public.

    “We had strictly instructed all the Police personnel to deal with every commuter in a friendly and polite manner while checking their vehicle during the course of this operation,” he added.

    The ADGP said as many as 6,378 vehicles entering the state were checked, of which challans were issued to 366 and 32 were impounded.

    According to the statement, such operations help in showing the police presence in the field, besides, infusing fear among anti-social elements and instilling a sense of security among common people.
