  • Bihar’s Covid vaccination to continue without Centre’s aid: Nitish

Bihar’s Covid vaccination to continue without Centre’s aid: Nitish

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that his government will purchase vaccines to continue the Covid vaccination drive in the state, even if it does not get the Centre’s support.

The state government is fully alert to meet the challenges of Covid-19, Kumar said while chairing a meeting of senior officials to review the coronavirus situation.

“Bihar is conducting the highest number of Covid tests in the country. The country’s average is above six lakh tests per 10 lakh population. For Bihar, it is eight lakh samples per 10 lakh population.

“As the stock of Covid vaccines has finished in the state and the central government has so far not provided fresh stock, we will continue the vaccination drive in the state by purchasing vaccines from our own coffer,” he said.

The Covid-19 active cases have more than doubled in a week in Bihar.

With 36 more people testing positive for the virus since Sunday, the number of active cases increased to 146, according to the Union Health Ministry’s latest figure.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Kumar instructed the health department to remain alert and make all arrangements at hospitals for the treatment of patients.

“Covid cases are increasing again, mainly in Patna and four to five other districts. However, the situation is under control. In places like hospitals, wearing of masks is being reinforced,” the chief minister said.

Amid a spike in coronavirus cases, mock drills to take stock of hospital preparedness were held in Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science in Patna during the day.

Chief Executive will immunize himself against covid-19 as part of the National Movement for Vaccination this Monday

The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) will be immunized against covid-19 during the launch of the National Movement for Vaccination this Monday (27.feb.2023).

The information was confirmed by the official account of the federal government on twitter. The event to launch the vaccination campaign will be held at 3 pm this Monday (Feb 27) at the Guará Health Center, in the administrative region of Brasília.

The campaign organized by the Ministry of Health proposes to expand the coverage of vaccines available in the SUS (Unified Health System). In the 1st phase of the program, the portfolio must reinforce immunization against covid-19. Reinforcement begins with priority groups across the country, such as seniors over 60 years old.

The actions of the 2023 National Vaccination Program, released by the Ministry of Health, should start from February 27th. Also included in the schedule is the intensification of the Influenza campaign, in April, and multivaccination of poliomyelitis and measles in schools.

On his Twitter profile, the Chief Executive compared the vaccination data for 2015 with those for 2021 and said he will work to make the country have satisfactory immunization numbers again.

Lula will receive a dose of the bivalent vaccine against the coronavirus during the event. According to the Ministry of Health, the immunizer improves immunity against the original strain virus and also against the omicron variant. In addition, it has a safety and efficacy profile similar to that of monovalent vaccines.

The president is 77 years old and has already been immunized with 4 doses of the covid vaccine. He took the 1st dose of an anti-covid vaccine on March 13, 2021 in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo. He received CoronaVac, a vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute in partnership with Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac. The last dose taken by the PT against the coronavirus was on April 3, 2022, before the presidential election campaign.

  • OMT: new round of corona vaccination not necessary this spring

OMT: new round of corona vaccination not necessary this spring

    [ad_1]

This spring, no new vaccination round is necessary against the corona virus. That is the advice of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) to the cabinet on Monday. As a rule, the government follows the advice of the OMT, whether this will also be the case with this advice is not yet clear.

Corona vaccinations are intended to prevent serious illness and hospital admissions, the OMT writes. At present, few people become very ill from the corona virus, so a new round of vaccinations would make “only a minor” contribution to public health. Since the beginning of 2022, the most far-reaching corona measures have also been abolished, including the one and a half meter measure and the mask obligation in public transport. The virus can still be dangerous for medically vulnerable groups.

Since last week, the corona virus has reached the “endemic phase”, according to the OMT. Large-scale testing is therefore no longer necessary, as long as ‘generic advice’ such as coughing into the elbow, washing hands and ‘staying at home if you do not feel fit and sick’ are adhered to.

  • Vaccination of girls against cervical cancer likely to begin in six states in June: Sources

Vaccination of girls against cervical cancer likely to begin in six states in June: Sources

    [ad_1]

New Delhi; The government is likely to begin administering anti-cervical cancer vaccine in girls aged nine to 14 years in six states in June, official sources said on Sunday.

In the first phase of the vaccination campaign, 2.55 crore girls are targeted to be administered the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, an official source told PTI.

The Union Health Ministry has drawn a roadmap to roll out HPV vaccine in the universal immunisation programme and is likely to float a global tender in April for 16.02 crore doses to be procured by 2026, official sources said.

The Serum Institute’s made-in-India vaccine against cervical cancer, CERVAVAC, was launched last month.

Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at the Serum Institute of India (SII), has written a letter to the Health Ministry its first indigenous HPV vaccine will be available in the private market at an MRP of Rs 2,000 per dose, it has been learnt. CERVAVAC will be available in two-dose glass vial presentation.

Singh is learnt to have communicated in his letter that CERVAVAC will be supplied at an affordable rate whenever the Health Ministry floats a tender.

Currently, only one HPV vaccine — American multinational Merck’s Gardasil — is available in the private market in single-dose pre-filled syringe presentation and its price is Rs 10,850.

India is home to about 16 per cent of the world’s women, but it accounts for about a quarter of all cervical cancer incidences and nearly a third of global cervical cancer deaths.

Indian women face a 1.6 per cent lifetime cumulative risk of developing cervical cancer and 1 per cent cumulative death risk from cervical cancer, officials had stated.

According to some recent estimates, every year almost 80,000 women develop cervical cancer and 35,000 die due to it in India.
