New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has issued an order directing the police staff not to use complex Urdu and Persian words while registering FIRs, diaries or chargesheets.

A list of 383 complex words with simpler alternatives in Hindi and English has been prepared by the department and shared with officers.

The Commissioner of Police, while citing directions given by Delhi High Court in 2019 to the Delhi Police to avoid using complicated Urdu and Persian words, has asked police staff to use simple words that are easily understood by all parties involved.

“Despite issuing the above instructions, it is observed that the compliance with the above instructions is not satisfactory. Archaic Urdu/Persian words are still being used by the investigating officer while registering the FIR as well as while preparing the diary list and chargesheet etc,” the police chief said.

Arora, issuing a circular in this regard, directed the police officers to ensure the maximum use of simpler words in FIRs.

“Non-compliance with the above instructions will be viewed seriously, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” the order read.

The Delhi police chief, along with the orders, also shared a list of 383 complex words in Urdu which are most commonly used in the FIRs or chargesheets. With every Urdu word, he gave an alternative word in Hindi or English which can be used from now on.

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday launched the 2023 Telangana Urdu Working Journalists’ Federation (TUWJF) diary. He promised to address the challenges faced by Urdu journalists, including the provision of double-bedroom housing initiatives.

During the event, TUWJF president MA Masjid, general secretary Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin, federation advisors, vice presidents, and other representatives submitted a memorandum to the Hyderabad MP.

The memorandum called for the restoration of the Mandal Level Accreditation Card Facility for Urdu journalists, the inclusion of an Urdu journalist in SMAC and DMAC, and the creation of a separate Urdu Journalist Category.

Additionally, it requested a relaxation of the 12-page rule for Urdu major and medium newspapers, reducing it to 8 pages for the sanction of 2 state-level accreditation cards in districts.

Other demands included the allocation of housing sites to Urdu working journalists within Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, the nomination of an Urdu member to the Telangana Media Academy, and the allotment of 2,000 square yards of land to construct an Urdu journalists bhavan in or around Hyderabad.

In response to these demands, Owaisi said that he will bring the matters to the government’s attention to ensure their resolution.

He said that Urdu media, which is the largest after Telugu media, in delivering government programs and schemes to the Urdu-speaking population.

Owaisi said, “GO 239 creates a disparity between journalists based on language. Until June 2016, all governments had treated Urdu journalists equally with their Telugu counterparts in various schemes”.

Watch: PM of Scotland Humza Yousaf’s oath in Urdu as MP in 2016

    [ad_1]

Pakistani-origin, Humza Yousaf took his oath in Urdu after he was officially elected as Scotland’s sixth First Minister.

Yousaf, 37, is the first Muslim, and the youngest ever to hold the post in the devolved region, with a majority of 71 out of 128 votes in Parliament.

After his election on March 28, as leader of the governing SNP, Yousaf received 71 votes for First Minister, with all SNP members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and all seven Scottish Green MSPs included in 128 voters voting for him in Parliament.

    MS Education Academy

He replaces Nicola Sturgeon, who announced her resignation last month, stepping down as the longest-serving First Minister in Scotland, after more than eight years in office.

Following the win, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called Yousaf to congratulate him, reports the BBC.

He said he wanted to continue “working constructively with the Scottish government” to deliver on what he argued was the “people’s priorities across Scotland, including the need to half inflation, delivering growth, and cut waiting times.”

He said in his victory speech that he will make Scotland a “fairer and wealthier” place.

Making his pitch to MSPs as his family looked on in the Scottish Parliament, the new First Minister leader said, “This Parliament has just given me the opportunity to help steer this nation’s course as we make the next stage of that journey together.

“Doing that will be the honour and the privilege of my life. I will strive every single minute of every day to be worthy of it.” Scottish Conservative Party leader Douglas Ross, Labour’s Sarwar, and Lib Dem Alex Cole-Hamilton also stood to be First Minister.

Seen as a continuity candidate in line with their predecessor Sturgeon’s policies, Yousaf now faces the key challenges of defining a clear plan for the independence of Scotland, which the SNP campaigns for, progressing with controversial gender recognition reforms, and alleviating the cost-of-living crisis.

    Throwback:

When Hamza was elected MP in 2016, during his swearing-in ceremony, he first took his oath in English and then repeated the same in Urdu.

Adding on to his oath at the end, Humza said, “Khuda kareem meri madad farmaega (Lord will help me in the task of delivering my duty)”

  • BJP to distribute PM’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ in Urdu among UP madrasas

BJP to distribute PM’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ in Urdu among UP madrasas

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: With an eye on the 2024 general election, the BJP will distribute a compilation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’ translated into Urdu among madrasas and Islamic scholars in Uttar Pradesh in a bid to woo Muslims.

Uttar Pradesh BJP Minority Morcha President Kunwar Basit Ali has compiled 12 episodes of the prime minister’s radio programme for the year 2022.

“Twelve episodes of Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme have been translated into Urdu and will be published as a book. Episodes from January to December 2022 have been included in this. It has been compiled by me and translated by Tabish Farid of Meerut,” Ali told PTI.

“It is expected that the book will be ready and printed during Ramzan. The target is to take this book to one lakh people,” he added.

The book is also set to include congratulatory messages from heads of Islamic educational institutions such as Darul Uloom Deoband and Nadwatul Ulema.

“The book will not be available for sale. It will be distributed as a gift in Muslim-dominated areas of Uttar Pradesh. Workers of the BJP’s state minority cell take this book as a gift to prominent madrasas, Islamic scholars, Urdu teachers and ulemas,” he said.

Ali said the purpose of the exercise is to spread the prime minister’s messages among the Muslim community.

“At many times it happens that the people of the Muslim community are unable to listen to the prime minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ which always has a deep message hidden for the betterment of the society,” he said.

In the radio programme, the prime minister often mentions various schemes and initiatives of the government as well as people who have made outstanding contributions in the social sector, Ali said.

“The purpose of publishing this book is that the Muslim community should also be benefitted and be inspired by the messages of the prime minister.”

After organizing conferences to connect Pasmanda Muslims, the BJP is preparing for ‘Sneh Milan – One Country, One DNA’ conferences in the Muslim-dominated Lok Sabha constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh in April.

  • Urdu Advocates Demand Inclusion In Naib Tehsildar Recruitment

    [ad_1]

    by Insha Shirazi

SRINAGAR: The Urdu Coordination Committee (Jammu and Kashmir) held a press conference on Thursday to raise awareness about issues related to the use of Urdu language and advocate for making it mandatory for Naib Tehsildar candidates. The committee’s leaders highlighted that Urdu is not just a language but a reflection of the entire civilization, allowing people from diverse backgrounds to connect with their history and culture. They also emphasized that Urdu is the only language that can serve as a means of communication among different linguistic and geographical groups in Jammu and Kashmir. The leaders further explained that with modern technology, the importance and usefulness of language have increased significantly.

During the press conference, Ajaz Ahmad Kakroo, the president of the Urdu committee, highlighted the significance of the fact that most artists from Jammu and Kashmir express their opinions in Urdu language, using creative and aesthetic techniques. He further explained that the conference was called to address the issue of the cancellation of Urdu language in the recruitment of Naib Tehsildars, which underscores the importance of Urdu language. All members associated with the committee expressed their disappointment with the government’s recent decision to cancel the use of Urdu language in the appointment of Naib Tehsildars.

The Jammu & Kashmir administration has made a significant change in the recruitment process for Naib Tehsildar positions in the Revenue Department by eliminating the requirement for Urdu language proficiency. This decision is expected to have an impact on current procedures for land registration and documentation.

Starting in February, the Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (JKSCERT) has begun incorporating Hindi into the curriculum for classes I to X. While the committee stated that it was open to the introduction of any language, it acknowledged that the decision to make Urdu a mandatory subject had sparked concerns among the public. However, the Urdu Coordination Committee, along with numerous academic, literary, social, business, and cultural organizations, expressed their disagreement with these official decisions, which contradict the sentiments and intentions of the public. They are urging the lieutenant governor to review and reconsider these decisions.

Professors, teachers, writers, research scholars, and millions of Urdu language enthusiasts are demanding that the government include Urdu Language as a requirement for Naib Tehsildar recruitment. The committee has highlighted the unique characteristics of the Urdu language, which include its prevalence in school curriculums from class 1 to 10 in Kashmir, as well as its teaching at the university level, resulting in more employment opportunities for graduates. Furthermore, the appointment of Urdu teachers at every level could also provide job opportunities. The committee urges the government to recognize these benefits and take responsibility for introducing Urdu as a requirement for Naib Tehsildar recruitment.

UP: Pigeon brings blood-stained message in Urdu; people left guessing

    [ad_1]

Kanpur: In an interesting incident, a pigeon carrying a letter was found in Kathara village of Bidhnu in Kanpur.

The pigeon with a piece of paper around its neck, with some Urdu text written on it along with blood stains on the other side, was found perched at the entrance of a local resident’s house on Thursday.

According to reports, farmer Dharmendra Kushwaha of the village was feeding the cattle, when he found a grey pigeon sitting at the entrance of his house. It was constantly cooing. On giving a closer look, he found a piece of paper tied around the pigeon’s neck with a white thread.

Later, Dharmendra caught the bird with the help of some neighbours.

“I thought it was a love letter for someone. On opening the piece of paper, I saw that there were seven lines in Urdu written in blue ink. The whole text was written in a square box,” he told reporters.

“There were some blood stains on the other side of the paper,” he added.

The villagers put the pigeon in a cage and alerted the police control room.

At the same time, they also started searching for Urdu experts to decipher the meaning of the text.

ACP Ghatampur Dinesh Kumar Shukla said, “The pigeon was carrying a ‘tabiz’ (amulet) around its neck. The police tried to release the pigeon, but it kept on returning.”

  • Akbaruddin fires at BRS on Urdu, Old City in Telangana Assembly

Akbaruddin fires at BRS on Urdu, Old City in Telangana Assembly

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Saturday fired at the BRS led state government on various issues like lack of justice to the Urdu language and development in Old City during the session of thanks to the Governor for her address that happened on Friday.

Akbaruddin also expressed serious disappointment over the lack of mention of many achievements of the state government in the Governor’s address.

“Yesterday’s Governor’s address was significant due to several reasons. In the year 2022, we missed the address due to reasons known to one and all. Let bygones be bygones. It’s a good beginning in the relationship between the top two constitutional functionaries in the state. However, compared to her previous address to the state legislature on March 15, 2021, which consisted of 42 pages. Her latest address is down to only 21 pages. I am sure Telangana has achieved significant progress but this has not been truly reflected in the current address which has been brief both on fact and figures,” he said.

Akbaruddin expressed discontent over the state government’s silence on the ‘step-motherly treatment’ meted out to Telangana by the BJP government at the centre.

“There has not been a murmur as well. The omissions of any reference to the state’s plight at the hands of the central government raise questions. Has the state government deliberately chosen to ignore these issues in the Governor’s address to show courtesy to her Excellency?..or has the Hon’ble Governor dropped portions of the text sent to her before the speech copies were printed?… or has the reference to the central government’s high handedness towards the state been brushed aside after the TRS became BRS?” he questioned.

    On Urdu, Old City

MLA Akbaruddin then criticised the BRS government for failing to treat Urdu fairly while designating it as a second official language. He also asked about the circumstances at Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad and the progress of the mosque’s building at the Telangana Secretariat.

The AIMIM MLA said that despite the rapid progress in Hi-Tech City, the lack of development still persists in the Old City.

He also wanted to know when the Charminar pedestrian project and the Hyderabad Metro project would be completed. The AIMIM MLA said that the Makkah Masjid’s renovation works haven’t still seen completion.

Akbar, while congratulating the state government on construction of several hospitals across the state, questioned on the state of the promised Osmania hospital renovation.

MLA Akbaruddin accused chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other ministers for preventing him from meeting them and stated that he is willing to meet with even low-ranking staff for the benefit of the Telangana people.

KTR responded with a strong counterargument, stating that speaking without attending the BAC meeting is inappropriate. He added that the AIMIM, which has only seven members, is taking up too much time speaking in the session and advised them to adhere to the designated timings and house rules.
