Robots to replace human scavengers in UP’s Prayagraj

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: There is some good news for human scavengers. In a first for the region, smart robots will soon begin cleaning clogged sewers and the project will begin from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

The state government has made available three Bandicoot robotic scavengers to Prayagraj Nagar Nigam (PNN) and Jalkal department — the two main bodies entrusted with the task of upkeep of drains and sewers — for the task.

They would be pressed into full-fledged service after Holi, officials said.

Bandicoot is a robotic machine that is engineered for cleaning any type of sewer manholes.

The robot consists of two major units — a stand unit and a robotic drone unit. The drone unit is the one that dives into the manholes for the cleaning operations or unblocking operations. The diving depth of the robotic drone is customisable according to the maximum depth needed for the job, the officials said.

General manager, Jalkal department, Kumar Gaurav said the government had provided three Bandicoot robots costing Rs 1.18 crore that will do the work of workers who were until now engaged to clean drains and sewers.

Fully automatic, the robots will directly enter the deep sewer line through the manhole and clean it, he said.

Civic officials said that the robots will prove to be a game changer as they provide a safe and efficient alternative to manual scavenging, which is not only hazardous but also compromises the dignity of sanitation workers.

Officials said that the move is part of the Swachh Survekshan-2023 and Safai Mitra Suraksha Protocol, which aims to create a clean and healthy environment for sanitation workers and the community as a whole.

Apart from Prayagraj other regions like Kanpur, Aligarh, Greater Noida in the state too have embraced these Bandicoot robotic scavengers.

These robots, developed by the Kerala-based national award-winning startup Genrobotics, are expected to be especially helpful in the light that 20 new wards have been added to the Prayagraj Nagar Nigam recently following increasing of the city limits.

These robots have an add-on feature, Nano coating that enables them to perform operation in any hazardous or corrosive sewerage environments effectively for a longer period.

It has the flexibility to perform more efficient cleaning than humans in terms of time and efficiency of manhole cleaning.

The drone unit is equipped with an extendable robotic arm with four degrees of freedom to perform grabbing, shovelling and unblocking actions inside the manholes.

Probe into removal of Shivaji portrait from UP’s KMC University

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Students of the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (KMC) Language University on Wednesday continued to demand the removal of the warden, who allegedly stopped them from celebrating Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19 even as the university authorities formed a panel to probe the matter.

The students on protest alleged that warden Azam Ansari forcibly removed Shivaji’s portrait from the hostel premises.

Ansari’s plea was that the students had not sought permission from the competent authority and hence he was against such celebrations in the open space of the hostel.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak took note of the incident and said in a tweet, “I have been told about it. Students have the right to celebrate it. We will look into it.”

Meanwhile, vice chancellor Prof Narendra Bahadur Singh has set up a three-member inquiry committee which will submit its report to him within a week. He has also removed Ansari from wardenship for the time being.

“We are probing the matter. For free and fair inquiry, Ansari has been relieved from warden’s responsibility till the pendency of the probe. The version of the students will be recorded and Ansari will also be given a chance to explain his point of view. We are not against celebrating the birth anniversary of our heroes,” the vice chancellor added.

A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media in which students are seen preparing to celebrate Shivaji Jayanti by putting up his big portrait in the common area of a hostel.

In the video, Ansari was purportedly seen asking students to get proper permission before organising such celebrations.

  • UP’s R-Day tableau depicts Lord Ram, Ayodhya Deepotsav

UP’s R-Day tableau depicts Lord Ram, Ayodhya Deepotsav

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh’s tableau which rolled down the Kartavya Path during the 74th Republic Day parade depicted Lord Ram and Goddess Sita being welcomed by the people of Ayodhya on their return from exile, and the Deepotsav celebrations in the temple town.

A grand Ram temple is currently under construction in Ayodhya and massive scale road-widening and other projects are also being undertaken in the Uttar Pradesh town.

Twenty-three tableaux — 17 from states and Union territories and six from various ministries and departments — depicting India’s vibrant cultural heritage, and economic and social progress are part of the parade on the Kartavya Path, Defence Ministry officials had earlier said.

Uttar Pradesh’s tableau depicts Lord Ram and Goddess Sita being welcomed by the people of Ayodhya on their return from exile, according to a senior official of the state’s information and public relations department.

Ayodhya Deepotsav is the main theme of Uttar Pradesh in its Republic Day tableau, a senior defence official had earlier said.

“The side panels of the tableau depict ‘Ram Ki Paidi’ on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya and a big ‘Deepotsav Dwar’ has been erected. It also has a sculpture of Maha Rishi Vasishtha,” an Uttar Pradesh government official said.

This is the first Republic Day celebrations at the ceremonial boulevard after the historic Rajath was named to Kartavya Path last year.

Uttar Pradesh has been winning as the best tableau in the parade for the last two years.

The spiritual city of Varanasi with Kashi Vishwanath Dham was the centrepiece of Uttar Pradesh’s tableau in the 73rd Republic Day Parade on Rajpath in 2022.

The first phase of the mega project, was dedicated to the people by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 13 last year and is expected to boost tourism in the holy town that is said to be one of the oldest cities in the world.

In 2021, the state’s tableau had depicted ancient city Ayodhya’s heritage and the Ram temple, during the ceremonial Republic Day parade on January 26.

The bedecked tableau was fronted by a sitting model of Maharishi Valmiki and the temple model was on the rear side.
