Unity among Muslims is need of the hour: Maulana Imran Masood

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In view of increasing sectarianism in the nation, Iman of Jama Masjid- Bengaluru, Maulana Imran Masood held that Muslims should consider ‘unity’ as their shield to sail through the situation.

The Maulana is serving as an Imam in the Jama masjid of Bengaluru and is a renowned leader who encourages Muslim-Hindu unity while pledging to eliminate hatred building up due to political propaganda in the nation.

The Siasat Daily, in an exclusive interview with the Imam at the Rainbow hotel in Lakdikapul, pulled light on the concept of unity among Muslims.

Hijab ban, Halal controversy, Azaan on loudspeakers row, the Imam deliberated that the issues are nothing but political conspiracies fashioned to distract people from the main purpose of their survival.

“The only way to deal with this challenge is for Muslims to avoid all kinds of petty differences and unity among Muslims is the most essential ingredient for the minorities to survive in the nation with other religions,” stressed the Imam.

Shedding light on the role of Muslims during the election process, the Imam said, “India is a democratic country and each vote counts and hence, no person should trade their vote for anything.”

Reflecting on the issue of Muslims being targeted in the nations in some way or the other, the imam said that education is the key factor in building communal ethics in children.

Stressing the elevating Azaan issue, the maulana said that the call for prayer is given in accordance with the Supreme court guidelines which have not fixed a particular decibel of volume at which the call for prayer must be given.

“Future generations must be taught to stay united for there is no life without unity,” asserted the imam.

Parties working on the principle of secularism are preferred and not parties working with Muslim people in the leader’s seat.

Maulana further stressed that the power of votes should not be underestimated and hence every Muslim has to uplift their fellow mates to encourage each other positive voting spirit.

Concerning the serious situation that Muslims are currently going through and the way false powers are propagating against Islam and Muslims, the imam said, “disagreement in the Ummah is a source of mercy, but it should not be used as a source of chaos.”

JNU lively reflection of India’s cultural unity: President Murmu

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is a relatively young institution and presents a lively reflection of the cultural unity of India, President Droupadi Murmu said on Friday.

Addressing the sixth convocation of the university, Murmu noted that the number of women research scholars has outnumbered men at the institute this time, terming it as an important indicator of social change.

“JNU is a relatively young university. I look at it as a meaningful and historical significance that JNU began to function in the year of the centenary celebration of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi in 1969,” she said.

“It is situated in the beautiful Aravalli hills. Students from all over India study at the university and live on campus together which helps widens their perspective about the country and the world. The university presents a lively reflection on the cultural unity of India amid the diversity,” the President said.

She said that JNU is known for its progressive practices and rich contributions in terms of social sensitivity, inclusion and women empowerment.

“Students and faculty of JNU have made impressive contributions in various fields such as education and research, politics, civil service, diplomacy, social work, science and technology, media, literature, art and culture,” she noted.

Murmu said that the vision, mission and objectives of JNU were articulated in its founding legislation.

These basic ideals include national integration, social justice, secularism, a democratic way of life, international understanding and a scientific approach to the problems of society, she remarked.

The President urged the university community to remain steadfast in its adherence to these foundational principles.

Asserting that character-building is also one of the main objectives of education, she said, “Invaluable opportunities for character-building should never be lost by going with the flow of the moment. Young students have a natural tendency to curiosity, question and use logic. This tendency should always be encouraged.

“Opposition to unscientific stereotypes by the younger generation should also be encouraged. Acceptance or rejection of ideas should be based on debate and dialogue,” she said.

Fake videos of attacks due to my call for oppn unity against BJP: Stalin

    [ad_1]

Chennai: As various social media content of alleged attacks on migrant workers from Tamil Nadu have turned out to be fake, Chief Minister M K Stalin has alleged the “lies spread” regarding such assaults in the State was a fallout of his recent call for opposition unity to dislodge the ruling BJP at the Centre next year.

He blamed the saffron party functionaries for doing so.

A Facebook user shared a video of an overcrowded passenger train claiming that migrants from Bihar were returning to their home state in large numbers from Tamil Nadu. In its investigation, the PTI Fact Check found that the train in the video posted on social media travels between Bihar’s capital city Patna and Barka Kana in Jharkhand.

It doesn’t travel from Tamil Nadu to Bihar, as the social media post claims. The unrelated video was shared on social media with a misleading claim.

A Facebook user shared a video which purportedly showed a train teeming with people. The text in the video reads Tamil Nadu to Bihar’, which implied that they were migrant workers from Bihar leaving the southern state.

Earlier too, a social media post showing purported clipping of a Hindi newspaper, claiming it reported the alleged killing of the Hindi-speaking migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu turned out to be fake following an investigation by the PTI Fact Check Desk.

Stalin, in his “Ungalil Oruvan” question and answer series, asserted no migrant worker in the State has been assaulted as alleged.

Many such workers were employed in Tamil Nadu for a long time and never have they faced any issues, the chief of the ruling DMK said.

“Some have been preparing fake videos and spreading lies. The BJP functionaries in north India have done this with an agenda. You will understand the conspiracy behind doing so, if you notice that such lies were spread the very next day I highlighted the need for political organisations opposed to the BJP joining hands at the national level,” he said.

At his birthday rally here on March 1, attended by leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Stalin had stressed for opposition unity to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Chief Minister said that soon after he received information about the alleged attacks, he enquired if the migrant workers were targeted anywhere in the State and it emerged that it was not the case.

“I have informed Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar that not even a small irritation has been caused (to the workers),” he said, adding the official delegation from that state which had visited TN over the issue has returned with ‘satisfaction.’

Oppn unity on test as Kavitha, Sibal to hold separate events in Delhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Opposition unity will be on test on Friday and Saturday when two back to back events are being organised — one by the Telangana CM’s daughter K Kavitha for pressing the demand for women’s reservation and the other on Saturday by Independent MP Kapil Sibal for the launch of ‘Insaf Ke Sipahi’.

Kavitha had praised Sonia Gandhi but had hit out at the Congress alleging arrogance on the issue of an opposition alliance. Sibal will be launching the website ‘Insaaf’. “On 11th of Mar Pls join me at Jantar Mantar at 3.30 PM where I will unveil a new vision for India for the future different from the one we live in today,” he said in a tweet.

Sibal has got support from former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

“This is an important initiative of Kapil Sibal Saheb. I appeal to everyone to join this initiative and we all together will fight against injustice,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president and former CM Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday extended support to senior political leader and legal luminary Kapil Sibal’s newly announced platform ‘Insaaf ke Sipahi’ to fight injustice.

According to a statement, Abdullah said, “Sibal sahab is a veteran leader and a seasoned lawyer, considered an important voice of the Opposition, and his talk of bringing opposition parties and leaders together should be welcomed. There is nothing better than everyone uniting against injustices.”

He added, “National Conference firmly stands with Kapil Sibal sahab in his new initiative. The party rank and file, including Omar Abdullah, is of the firm belief that the initiative will act as a catalyst in bringing the opposition parties together for a common cause of fighting injustices.”

Kavitha a day ahead of the hunger strike praised Sonia Gandhi for pushing the Women Reservation Bill during the UPA’s tenure.

She has invited 18 political parties, including the Congress to join the one-day hunger strike to press the demand. She said around 6,000 people will be present and her organisation Bharat Jagruti Manch has reached out to the like-minded parties and organisations.

“I salute Madam Sonia Gandhi for having backed the Women’s reservation Bill despite leading a coalition govt at Centre,” she said.

Kavitha said she has spoken to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary K.C. Venugopal to send a representative to the protest.

Sibal on Saturday had announced that he will launch a website, titled ‘Insaf ke Sipahi’, to help citizens fight against injustice and appealed to the opposition Chief Ministers and parties to help him in the initiative.

Addressing a press conference, Sibal had said during the official launch on March 11 at the Jantar Mantar, that he will also unveil a vision document for the country. He asserted that this was not a political move but a catalyst for change.

The Independent MP said lawyers should raise their voices, adding that “I want to start a movement as there is injustice everywhere be it business, journalism, people and opposition.”

Sibal had alleged that the elected governments had been destabilised and that among 121 cases of the ED, 115 are against the opposition leaders.

  • NC Sole Guardian Of J&K’s Identity, Culture, Diversity And Unity: Dr Farooq Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and MP from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday stressed on protecting the insignia of J&K’s unique culture and history.

He said this while addressing a gathering in Umerheir, Buchpora. Party’s Chief Spokesperson and In-charge Constituency Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq was also present on the occasion.

Interacting with the people, he said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been guarding the frontiers of their culture, heritage and traditions since ages. “It becomes all the more important to preserve our culture, language and traditions in our families in wake of the attempts aimed at destroying it by forces inimical to our unique political identity. I am sure that people will foil all such attempts by keeping the flame of unity and brotherhood alive. I see no way of achieving anything in J&K without a lasting unity between different sections of our society. We have to stop seeing ourselves as Hindu Muslim, Shia-Suni, Bareli Deobandi. Unity in diversity must be our creed to last for all time and under all circumstances, otherwise there is no end in sight to our common problems in the shape of poverty, unemployment, and under-development. Our mutual discord will make our descent into darkness,” he said.

Dr Farooq said National Conference has a history of rendering sacrifices for the people of this State. Asking people to take pride in their culture and mother-tongue, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that the identity of a nation was its most valuable asset.

Dr Farooq further said that Jammu & Kashmir had survived numerous conspiracies and ploys to dilute its unique culture and history and that National Conference will never allow the apologetic proxies of communal parties to divide the people for their short-term, electoral and political gains.

Dr Farooq Abdullah asserted that it was Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who prepared and presented a blue-print for the welfare and progress of Jammu and Kashmir. It was Sheikh Sahib who demonstrated that political power was not an end in itself but the means to an end. Political power is a medium to protect, nourish and nurture the identity of a people and this ideal has been upheld by the National Conference since its very creation, he added.

Unity Crucial For Safeguarding Interests Of People Of J&K: Dr Farooq Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and MP from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday asked people to unite against the divisive forces that are trying to disenfranchise them of their identity, land and resources.

This he said while stressing on the importance of maintaining unity in the ongoing struggle for restoration of J&K’s rights in Budgam. “I see no way of achieving anything in J&K without a lasting unity between different sections of our society. Unity in diversity must be our creed to last for all times and under all circumstances, otherwise there is no end in sight to our common problems in the shape of poverty, unemployment,” he said.

The cost of not forging unity will be borne out by our future generations, he said, “Recent developments across Jammu and Kashmir have heighten people’s fears. They talked of hand holding youth and bridging ‘Dil Ki Doori’. Hearts aren’t won by making poor and hapless people homeless. Far from winning the hearts, they have further alienated the people. Kashmiris, Gujjars, Dogras or Paharis are already suffering on multiple accounts. Snatching roofs from their heads will only precipitate the already grim situation. I hope the government retracts from the path it has chosen in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq were also present on the occasion.

Pakistani PM calls for national unity after terror attack in Peshawar

    [ad_1]

Islamabad: In the wake of the recent suicide bombing in Pakistan’s Peshawar city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday called for national unity to fight the menace of terrorism.

Chairing the Apex Committee meeting in Peshawar, convened after the attack on a mosque in the city that killed over 100 people, Sharif said that all the stakeholders should work together against terrorism, Xinhua reported.

“It is the need of the hour that provinces and the center along with the leaderships of political parties take ownership and shun their differences … We should unite and tackle this (terrorism),” the prime minister said.

He said that KP province recently witnessed a fresh spate of terror incidents, and therefore needed capacity-building in its security departments, adding that maximum support will be provided to the counter-terrorism department of KP police to strengthen its capabilities to combat terrorism.

“In the recent attack in Peshawar, the terrorist managed to breach the security check post and reach the mosque. We should not feel hesitant in admitting the facts and faults … The occurrence of the incident due to security lapses will be probed,” Sharif said, as reported by Xinhua.

“A full-fledged investigation has been launched into the suicide attack, and the culprits behind the terrorist incident would be taken to task soon,” he added.

The prime minister said that military operations in the past have successfully wiped out terrorism from the country, vowing the Pakistani government would collectively overcome the on-going challenge as well.

“Many people have lost their lives confronting terror. Our police and armed forces gave huge sacrifices. Our citizens were on the frontline. Their sacrifices would not be wasted,” he said.

On Monday, a powerful blast ripped through a crowded mosque in Peshawar, killing at least 100 worshippers and wounding more than 200 others.

Pakistani police said they have found a network of terrorists behind the deadly suicide bombing.

Thackeray-Ambedkar ‘unity’ rattles Maha politics; MVA lauds, BJP trashes

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Ending two months’ political suspense, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) entered into a brand-new ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ alliance here, coinciding with the 97th birth anniversary of the late Balasaheb Thackeray, on Monday.

Uddhav, 62, ex-Chief Minister and son of Balasaheb Thackeray, and Ambedkar, 68, the grandson of the Chief Architect of Indian Constitution Dr B. R. Ambedkar, jointly made the formal announcement of the new political tie-up intended to electrify the state political scenario, with plans to fight the upcoming BMC civic elections.

Addressing the media, Thackeray recalled how his grandfather, Keshav Sitaram, alias Prabodhankar Thackeray, and Ambedkar’s grandfather Dr B.R. Ambedkar were good friends and had followed the ideology of ‘Desh Pratham’ (Nation First).

“We are now coming together to safeguard the nation and raise the concerns of the masses. We will take decisions on the next political courses in due time,” said Thackeray.

Declaring that the BJP is trying to finish off political leadership with the help of central agencies like the ED, Ambedkar forecast that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership will end soon”, and the ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ tie-up will work to save the Constitution and Democracy.

Thackeray claimed that the new partnership has been discussed beforehand with the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies comprising Congress-Nationalist Congress Party-Sena (UBT), while Ambedkar expressed the hope that the MVA would soon accept the VBA.

The duo – Thackeray, flanked by senior leaders like MPs Sanjay Raut, Arvind Sawant and ex-minister Subhash Desai, and Ambedkar, accompanied by state president Rekha Thakur and Mumbai chief Abul Hassan Khan – expressed confidence that the new force would prove beneficial in dethroning the Bharatiya Janata Party and would work in tandem with other political parties.

Confirming that Thackeray had discussed the partnership with Ambedkar, Congress state President Nana Patole welcomed the new ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ alliance saying it will help the Opposition parties’ ambitions of dislodging the BJP in the state and Centre.

NCP leader Anil Deshmukh also welcomed the Sena (UBT)-VBA tie-up saying all parties have a right to make their alliances.

Sena (UBT) Chief Spokesperson Raut pointed out that the ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ experiment had been carried out in the past and “it was the desire of the late Balasaheb Thackeray that these two forces should unite in the state”.

Asked what will be the impact of the tie-up in the upcoming civic polls, Ambedkar said it will work with other MVA parties, “will succeed and emerge victorious”.

In his first reaction, Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (BSS) leader and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his ‘good wishes’ to the new entity, while the ally and BJP’s leaders like Union Minister Narayan Rane and state President Chandrashekhar Bawankule trashed it saying it will make no difference to the party.

Criticising the tie-up, Rane asked ‘where is the Shiv Sena’ and ‘what has Ambedkar done for Dalits’, while Bawankule predicted that the alliance will not last long.

Telangana unit Cong in-charge stresses need for unity in view of polls

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Aiming to end the infighting and forge unity in the Congress party in Telangana ahead of this year’s Assembly elections, the new in-charge for the party in the state Manikrao Thakare made it clear on Saturday that he neither is in anyone’s favour nor against someone.

He asked the party’s state unit leaders to work with unity and if they are any issues bring them to his notice. He advised them not to speak on the internal issues before the media as this would damage the party’s interests.

Addressing the extended executive meeting of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) in Hyderabad, the in-charge told the leaders that his duty is to act as per the orders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

He asked the party leaders to make the ‘Hath Se Hath Jodo’ programme in the state a huge success like Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

Thakare directed the party leaders and cadres to work with unity to take the programme to every village and every street. He told the participants in the meeting that Rahul Gandhi undertook the nation-wide yatra in a bone-chilling cold and it is ‘our responsibility to take the message of the yatra’ to every house.

The AICC in-charge said TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy will undertake yatra in at least 50 Assembly constituencies in the state and asked senior leaders to cover another 20-30 constituencies.

Thakare said everyone in the party should work hard to make the yatra successful in view of the coming Assembly elections. “If all of us work together, the Congress party will definitely win the election and come to power,” he said.

Revanth Reddy said Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra in Telangana will begin on February 6 and will continue for two months. He said a resolution was passed during the meeting, appealing to the central leadership to arrange a day’s visit to Telangana by Priyanka Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi.

He said the yatra would be formally launched from Bhadrachalam on January 26.

The meeting was attended by Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, three AICC incharge secretaries and other leaders.

Manikrao Thakare also had meetings with the Campaign Committee, Election Management Committee and AICC Program Implementation Committee Chairman regarding expansion of these committees and their work.

The AICC on January 4 appointed Thakare as the new in-charge amid infighting in the party’s state unit.

Thakare, a senior leader from Maharashtra replaced Manickam Tagore, who was shifted to Goa following complaints by a section of senior leaders he had been supporting Revanth Reddy and taking unilateral decisions.

A section of senior leaders had last month slammed Revanth Reddy for packing the party panels with his loyalists.

They had also announced to save Congress in Telangana movement, terming it a fight between what they called real Congress and the leaders who came from other parties. This was an open attack on Revanth Reddy and others who quit Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to join Congress a few years ago.

A day after senior leaders raised the banner of revolt, 13 loyalists of Revanth Reddy had announced resignations from party posts.

The crisis had forced the high command to send senior leader Digvijay Singh to Hyderabad. He individually met the leaders from both the groups and based on the feedback received submitted a report to the high command.
