    Hyderabad: Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, was celebrated with traditional fervour across Telangana on Wednesday.

    The new year is known as ‘Sobakrut’. People consumed the traditional Ugadi ‘pachadi’ (chutney) made of raw mango, tamarind, neem flowers, jaggery, salt and black pepper powder which symbolises that life is a mixture of all emotions.

    The Ugadi celebration organised by the state government was attended by several ministers and offiicials, while the festival was also celebrated in the offices of BJP, Congress and other parties.

    ‘Panchanga Sravanam’, recital of an almanac, was also organised as part of the celebrations.

    Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, state BJP president and Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MP A Revanth Reddy and other leaders greeted people on the occasion of Ugadi.

    Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his wife Y. S. Bharati Reddy on Wednesday celebrated Telugu new year Ugadi with traditional gaiety and fervour.

    Sobhakrutu Nama Ugadi celebrations were held at the Chief Minister’s official residence. It was attended by several ministers, officials, leaders and well wishers.

    The Chief Minister greeted all Telugu people and wished them good health and prosperity in the Telugu new year.

    Dressed in traditional attire, the Chief Minister along with his wife greeted the guests.

    He garlanded the statue of the former Chief Minister and his father Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

    The couple offered prayers at the temples of Lord Venkateswara Swamy, Lord Ganesh and Tulasi before listening to the Panchanga Sravanam rendered by the renowned astrologer Kappagantula Subbarama Somayaji who predicted good rains, good governance and self-sufficiency in all prime sectors in the new year. Ugadi pachadi was served to the Chief Minister on the occasion.

    The couple witnessed the dance dramas presented by Anand Sai group and Padmaja Reddy on the importance of Ugadi and administrative reforms in the State.

    On the occasion, popular Annamacharya keertana ‘Nigama Nigamanta’ was rendered by Mayukh and the melody number ‘Kannulato Chusedi’ was sung by Vagdevi.

    The couple felicitated vedic pundits, artistes and singers who participated in the celebrations.

    The Chief Minister released the agricultural, horticultural, Silparamam and Ugadai calendars on the occasion.

    Hyderabad: On the occasion of the Telugu and Marathi new year, people from Maharashtra in the city will hold a ‘Shobha Yatra’ on Wednesday.

    On 22 March, a group of 15000 members will organize an event where several activities will take place in the city. The purpose of this event is to connect, promote, and provide information on Marathi culture in Telangana.

    According to the release, every year, a group of Maharashtrians in Hyderabad organise a number of diverse social and cultural events that draw 3000 to 5000 individuals.

    At least 3,000 to 4,000 people turn up to showcase their abilities in a range of social and cultural activities, including playing the “Dhol Tasha” percussion instruments while dressed traditionally in Marathi, playing the lezim, painting Rangoli, and, most significantly, females riding motorcycles while sporting a traditional nose stud and Maharashtrian 9-yard saree.

    The event will be held at CCRT, Near Google Office, Kondapur Road, Madhapur on March 22, at 4:00 pm.

    Hyderabad: The Governors and Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday greeted people on the occasion of Ugadi, or the Telugu new year.

    Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan greeted the people of the state and Telugu people across the world on ‘Sri Shobhakruthu Nama Samvatsaram Ugadi’.

    “I am confident that Sri Shobhakruthu Nama Samvatsaram will usher in peace, prosperity, harmony, health and happiness to all people and sections of the society,” the Governor said in her message.

    In his greetings, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao expressed hope that Ugadi, which is considered as an agricultural year, will bring good fortunes to the farmers and people in all fields.

    The Chief Minister said that Telangana is flourishing with abundant irrigation water, drinking water and green crops.

    He added that by developing the agriculture sector, its allied sectors and professions strengthened and the Telangana state’s rural economy is sustaining.

    The Chief Minister said that the progress achieved by Telangana has become a role model for the country.

    He wished Telangana and India will achieve development further in the year of “Shobhakruth”.

    Extending his wishes, Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer said: “On this happy and auspicious occasion of Ugadia festival, the Telugu New Year Day, I extend my heartiest greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh and to the Telugu people living all over the world.”

    Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Redd wished prosperity to people.

    He hoped the the Telugu new year will bring happiness to farmers, women and people of all professions.

    Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary, A Santhi Kumari instructed the officials to make extravagant arrangements for the Ugadi celebrations to be organized at Ravindra Bharathi on March 22.

    The State government will organize the ‘Shubhakruth Nama Samvatsaram’ program at Ravindra Bharathi. Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to participate in the program.

    A meeting with officials was held on Thursday to discuss the arrangements planned for the program. Advisor to the government K V Ramanachary and other senior officials attended the meeting.

    The Chief Secretary asked all officials who are participating in the function to wear traditional attire.

    She directed the Department of Culture Telangana to make proper arrangements for stage decoration, the printing of invitation cards, seating arrangements and a ‘Kavi Sammelanam’ in the evening at the venue.

    Santhi Kumari also instructed the Police to provide adequate security and prepare a parking plan so as to avoid inconvenience to the general public. Officials were also instructed to provide uninterrupted power supply, arrangements of signage and illumination at important government buildings on March 21 and 22.
