On May 01, 1990, Shri Sarwanand Koul Premi was killed by terrorists.
Remembering Sarwanand Koul Premi, the Lt Governor said Sarwanand Ji was a towering man of ideas and ideals. He was undoubtedly one of the greatest writers of his time with deep commitment for upliftment of downtrodden & weaker sections of society, the Lt Governor added.
“Sarwanand ji made great contribution to freedom struggle and infused new life in the bonds of our national unity. Throughout his life, he followed the universal and eternal values of peace, co-existence and cooperation,” said the Lt Governor.
Jammu Kashmir is called the heaven on earth, not only because of its scenic beauty, but the great personalities like Sarwanand ji, who dedicated his life to serve the others, observed the Lt Governor.
“Sarwanand ji was not only a famous writer but also a well known teacher in Kashmir valley who became the medium of divinity for many and inspired the masses to follow the ideals enshrined in our ageless culture and selflessly served the society,” said the Lt Governor.

Hyderabad: Rich tributes were paid to tribals who were killed in police firing while fighting for their rights 42 years ago at Indravelli in Telangana’s Adilabad district.
Aboriginal tribals or Adivasis and leaders of different political parties paid homage to martyrs at the martyrs’ column in Indravelli on Thursday.
It was on this day in 1981 that 13 tribals were killed in a police firing when they had gathered at Indravelli for a protest on a call given by Andhra Pradesh Raithu Coolie Sangham to fight for their land rights.
The police had opened fire when a constable was allegedly killed by an angry mob.
According to official records, 13 tribals, all Raj Gonds belonging to surrounding villages of the Indravelli mandal centre, were killed in the firing. However, rights groups had put the death toll at 60.
Till a few years ago, the tribals were not allowed to hold meetings in Indravelli to pay homage to the martyrs.
Adivasis, members of Indravelli Amaraveerula Ashaya Sadhana Samithi and the Tudum Debba, a tribal rights organization, offered floral tributes in a traditional manner on Thursday.
Adilabad Member of Parliament Soyam Bapu Rao, Mulugu MLA Seethakka and YSR Telangana Party leader Y.S. Sharmila paid tributes at the martyrs’ column.
Seethakka tweeted that Indravelli Adivasi heroes are immortal. She called Indravelli a place of inspiration. “Many lost their lives to get our land, & freedom back still we are fighting for our lands & freedom, we remember the fighters & I pray for their souls to get peace,” she wrote.
Sharmila said she paid tributes to the martyrs of Indravelli who laid down their lives fighting for land rights and against the exploitative system.
She said it was another Jallianwala Bagh.
“We will continue to fight for tribal rights with the spirit of martyrs,” she said.

Tributes have been paid to Duangpetch Promthep, one of the 12 boys rescued from a flooded Thai cave in 2018, who died in the UK on Tuesday.
Kiatisuk Senamuang, the founder of the Zico Foundation and a mentor to Duangpetch, known also as Dom, wrote in a message: “Have fun playing football in heaven, be what Dom wanted to be, just go for it, go to watch every match you want to.”
Kiatisuk’s foundation had supported Duangpetch, a talented player, to attend a football academy in the UK. Duangpetch was found unconscious in his dorm by a teacher on Sunday and was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
“I wish you have a safe journey, if you are free, please come to visit me or just come to see me coaching,” Kiatisuk wrote on social media. “Tonight I will remember all the memories we had. I don’t know when I can fall asleep. I will remember all the memories. I love you so much.”
Kiatisuk said during an emotional online press conference on Wednesday night that he wasn’t aware Duangpetch had any health conditions. “Dom was very strong and very fit,” he said. “He ran fast, well and didn’t have any issues with injuries.”
The cause of Duangpetch’s death has not been confirmed, but the BBC reported that Leicestershire police had said the death was not suspicious.
It is not clear when a funeral ceremony will be held. During Wednesday night’s press conference, Duangpetch’s mother asked how he would be returned, so that his body or ashes could be repatriated and his soul brought home.
Duangpetch was the captain of the Wild Boars football team whose 12 members, aged 11 to 16 at the time, became trapped in a Thai cave along with their 25-year-old coach in 2018. They had adventured into the cave as a fun excursion, but flash floods filled the tunnels, cutting off their exit.
For more than two weeks they were trapped inside the dark cave complex, while billions of people around the world watched a rescue effort by international divers and Thai Navy Seals bring them to safety. One rescuer died during the mission, and a second rescuer died later from a blood infection.
Ekkaphol Kanthawong, the coach who was trapped alongside Duangpetch in 2018, wrote on Facebook that he had been waiting all day for a miracle, hoping the news of Duangpethc’s death was not true.
“Didn’t you ask me to cheer you once you’re in the national league? Why did you break the promise? Didn’t we make all the plans when you come back to play football and go cycling with us?
“Since you were young, you kept saying that you wanted to play in the national league. Why didn’t you do as you said?” Ekkaphol wrote.
“Rest in peace my little brother, if the next life exists, we will see each other again, Dom.”
Images of Duangpetch, including a photo taken during the 2018 rescue, showing him smiling and wrapped in a foil blanket, appeared on the front of Thai newspapers on Thursday and on TV news.
The British ambassador to Thailand said in a statement that he was saddened to hear of Duangpetch’s death. “My condolences to all his family and friends.”
The Royal Thai embassy in London also conveyed its “deepest sympathies” for the loss of Duangpetch, saying: “Our heartfelt condolences to Dom’s family for the passing of their loved one.”

New Delhi: Bharat Janata Party Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay on Tuesday came down heavily on State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and said that people of the state will soon be liberated from the autocratic rule of KCR.
Addressing the BJP Telangana two-day-long State Executive meeting, which concluded in Mahbubnagar yesterday, Bandi Sanjay terming CM KCR as the 8th Nizam, said, “People of Telangana will be liberated very soon from the autocratic rule of KCR”.
Bandi Sanjay’s reactions came against the backdrop of Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief KCR’s decision to skip the all-party meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December last year under the rubric of India G-20 presidency.
“Telangana CM KCR has ample time to pay tributes to the titular Nizam (who passed away last week) and offered condolences to his family members, whose ancestors have tortured Telangana people and sucked their blood,” he said.
The BJP leader also heaped praises on PM Modi saying that India is on the way to becoming ‘Vishwa Guru’ (world leader).
“Swami Vivekanand, whose birth name was also Narendra, had predicted that India would become Vishwa Guru in the 21st century, and it is coming true under Narendra Modi’s leadership,” he said adding that under the leadership of PM Modi, India gained presidency for G-20 group, which is a big opportunity.
Earlier in December last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an all-party meeting to underscore the significance of India’s presidency of the G20 and brief the leaders about the government’s approach.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were among the leaders present at the meeting.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were among those present at the meeting which took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, but Telangana CM KCR abstained from attending the meeting.
