Telangana Guv calls for more generic medicine outlets in tribal areas

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday interacted with Jan Aushadi Kendra in-charges in the state through video conference and called for opening up of more number of Generic Medicine outlets in tribal areas.

She connected with the Jan Aushadi in-charges through a video conference on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi day. She said that generic medicines need to be brought within the reach of tribals living in remote areas as well.

“Many people would have avoided taking lifesaving medicines on a regular basis due to the prohibitive cost of the medicines. The availability of the generic medicines through Jan Aushadhi outlets have helped many to continue regular medication, as the medicines have become inexpensive and affordable,” she added.

Governor Tamilisai thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting Jan Aushadhi outlets across the country thus drastically reducing the cost of medicines and the burden on the people.

  • In ‘developed’ Gujarat, Tribal areas see spike in ‘underweight’ kids

In ‘developed’ Gujarat, Tribal areas see spike in ‘underweight’ kids

    [ad_1]

The number of malnourished children is becoming bigger in Gujarat, which is regarded as a ‘developed state’.

Gujarat has seen a dramatic increase in the number of malnourished children during the course of COVID-19. In contrast to metropolitan regions, the increase has been more evident in tribal and rural communities.

Women and Child Welfare minister Vibhavariben Dave informed the state House that the tribal area of Dahod had 18,326 malnourished children as opposed to 2236 in the Ahmedabad district in answer to a question posed in the Assembly by Congress Legislator Jignesh Mevani. There are eight times as many malnourished children in Dahod as there are in Ahmedabad, the New Indian Express reported.

In Dahod, there are 18,326 malnourished kids between the ages of 0 and 6 years old. In Dahod, there are 5,101 underweight children, compared to 497 in Ahmedabad.

In the last two years, Dang district has recorded 575 malnourished children, whereas Narmada as a whole had 2,443 malnourished children. The bulk of people in the Dashod, Narmada, and Dang districts are tribal.

Also, 497 children in Ahmedabad are classified as ‘severely underweight,’ while 1,739 youngsters are classified as ‘underweight’ according to statistics made accessible by the government. 13,225 children in Dahod are classified as ‘underweight,’ and 5,101 as ‘severely underweight.’

However, the government blamed COVID-19 for the rise in malnourished children, claiming that “it is currently impossible to ascertain whether the number of malnourished children has increased or decreased” because “most ‘Anganwadis’ (a type of rural child care centre started by the Indian government) were closed on March 2020 and were re-opened only on February 2022 due to the pandemic.”

The response of social workers, according to the report, who have spent years working in Dahod and tribal areas disagree with the government.

Rajasthan govt committed to overall development of tribal regions, says CM Gehlot

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government is committed to the overall development of tribal regions and the state Budget includes “many important gifts” for the area’s overall development, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Saturday.

The chief minister was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Government Community Health Centre at Dhariyavad assembly segment in Pratapgarh district where he inaugurated projects worth Rs 11.74 crore. He also laid the foundation stone of 10 projects worth Rs 59.68 crore.

“The state government has not kept any shortfall in the Budget for the welfare of the tribals.

“The state government has given a major share in the Budget to the Mewar region under the irrigation sector as there is a strong potential for irrigation projects here,” Gehlot was quoted as saying in a statement.

Gehlot presented the 2023-24 Budget at the Legislative Assembly on February 10.

During his address, Gehlot announced that the state government would also open medical colleges in Pratapgarh, Rajsamand and Jalore districts.

Claiming that Rajasthan has emerged as a model state, the chief minister said, “The state government is effectively implementing the schemes up to the grassroots level. In the Budget 2023-24, the amount of Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

“Along with this, the insurance amount has also been increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh under the Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Accidental Insurance Scheme.”

He added, “In order to give relief to the common man from inflation, now 1 crore NFSA (National Food Security Act) consumers would be given free ration and free Annapurna food packets every month… 100 units per month free electricity will be made available to domestic consumers.”

The chief minister said the Old Pension Scheme, re-implemented in Rajasthan from a humanitarian point of view, would secure the futures of government employees.

He also appealed to the Centre to re-implement the Old Pension Scheme in the interest of its employees.

Water Resources Development Minister Mahendrajit Singh Malviya and Cooperative Minister Uday Lal Anjana were present at the ceremony.

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) on Tuesday spoke highly of Sant Sevalal Maharaj, a revered leader of the Banjara and Lambada community on the occassion of the leader’s birth anniversary.

CM KCR extended greetings to the Lambada and Banjara community on the occasion of 284th birth anniversary of Sant Sevalal Maharaj.

The Chief Minister said that Sewalal Maharaj had three centuries ago visited the area which is known as Banjara Hills. CM KCR further said that organizing Sevalal birth anniversary celebrations is another example of the due recognition accorded to the existence and self-respect of the downtrodden communities (Scheduled Tribes) in separate Telangana.

CM KCR said that the efforts put by Sevalal to preserve the unique nature worship, spiritual outlook and socio-cultural way of life of people living in the forests is commendable.

“Sevalal Maharaj fought a lifetime struggle to safeguard his people from the outside society. Awareness created and the activities undertaken by Sevalal became a protective shield for Lambada/Banjaras across the country,” KCR added.

He also added that the BRS led government fulfilled the “long cherished democratic aspirations” of the tribal community ie. “Maa Tandalo Maa Rajyam ( My rule in my habitation ) by converting the Tandas into Gram Panchayats and made them partners in the village administration.

Will fight to ensure MP gets tribal CM, says Bhim Army chief

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad on Sunday held a rally in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, where Assembly polls are likely at the end of the year, and asked people to ensure the state gets a tribal chief minister.

At the well-attended rally of his political outfit Azad Samaj Party at the BHEL Dussehra Maidan, he said MP has the highest number of tribals in India but was yet to have a CM from these communities.

Slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, Azad said these parties appointed tribal governors and presidents, who have nothing much to do but not CMs.

“Be it the Congress or the BJP, they have stripped us of our rights. You elected the Congress (Kamal Nath government in 2018) but it fell (in 2020). We will now rely on our own collective power and strength,” he told the gathering mostly comprising members of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities and Other Backward Classes.

He said a united front comprising 85 per cent of the weaker sections of society and minorities was now in place to fight the MP polls and ensure it gets a tribal CM.

At the gathering, he read out 31 demands of the united forum, which includes leaders of the OBC Mahasabha and the tribal Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti (JAYS0.

These demands include withdrawal of cases lodged against weaker sections, raising the compensation to SC/ST victims of atrocities to Rs 30 lakh, increasing minimum wage under MNREGA to Rs 700, caste census and caste-based reservation in promotions in government jobs.
