BJP’s treatment of wrestlers shameful, arrogant: Arvind Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday slammed the BJP over the scuffle at Jantar Mantar between wrestlers and police and called its treatment of national sportspersons shameful and arrogant.

Kejriwal in a tweet in Hindi said that arrogance has gone to the head of the BJP and it wanted to run the system through “hooliganism” as he called on people to throw it out of power.

A scuffle broke out late Wednesday night between the wrestlers staging a protest at Jantar Mantar and some policemen, leading to a couple of protesters getting injured.

    MS Education Academy

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti and Congress leader Deepender Hooda were among the people who were detained after the incident, according to police.

In a video that circulated on social media, some of the protesters were seen accusing a policeman of attacking two wrestlers in a drunken state.

According to police, protesters became aggressive after policemen deployed there asked some people about cots being brought by Bharti.

Kejriwal sharing a video of Jantar Mantar tweeted “such behaviour with the champion players of the country? This is extremely unfortunate and shameful…”

“I appeal to all the people in the country…no more…do not tolerate BJP’s hooliganism, the time has come to uproot the BJP and chase them away,” he wrote.

Kejriwal had recently visited the wrestlers and extended his support to them.

The wrestlers have been on a sit-in since April 23 demanding arrest of WFI president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a sexual harassment accused.

The Delhi Police had on February 28 filed two FIRs against the WFI president in the matter and subsequently offered to provide security to the female wrestlers who filed complaints against him.

Hyderabad: KTR to launch Jawaharnagar leachate treatment plant

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) minister KT Rama Rao will inaugurate a leachate (liquid waste) treatment plant in Jawaharnagar on Saturday.

The project aims to reduce water pollution in Jawaharnagar and adjoining localities. Malkaram Cheruvu was polluted with wastewater because of the leachate which gathered at the Jawaharnagar dump yard.

Some water bodies in the surrounding localities too got polluted when the contaminated water overflowed.

    MS Education Academy

To address the situation, a mobile RO system of 2000 kilolitres per day capacity was started in the year 2017 as a temporary measure. The capacity of the RO system was subsequently increased to 4000 kilolitres, said a press release on Friday.

Purification of water in the Malkaram Cheruvu project was also taken up. To ensure the contaminated water from the water body does not spill over, storm water diversion drains construction was completed with the cost of Rs 4 35 crores.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) completed the capping of the dump yard in 2020 to address the issue of flood water flowing from the top of the dump yard. GHMC took up the program with nearly Rs 250 Crore to treat the wastewater from Jawaharnagar and to restore nearby ponds and other water bodies in the surroundings.

Ramky Group took up the restoration and purification of Malkaram Cheruvu and artificial lagoons.

Year-long efforts into the programs and initiatives resulted in purifying nearly 43% of Malkaram Cheruvu. This was confirmed by agencies, like the Pollution Control Board, supervising the programs.

GHMC divided the Malkaram Cheruvu purification works into three phases. Under the first phase, 5.7 acres of the water body were purified. The process of purifying the legacy waste is underway.

After the completion of this program, the management of solid waste, as well as water waste in the Jawahar Nagar area, is said to reach a satisfactory level.

44,000 Drug Addicts Seek Treatment At SMHS Hospital Last Year

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Dr. Yasir Rather, the Incharge of the Drug De-addiction Centre at SMHS Hospital, reported that more than 44,000 individuals visited the hospital seeking treatment for drug addiction in 2022. Notably, all of these patients received free treatment at the hospital.

“There is free treatment available for drug victims at the de-addiction centre of SMHS Hospital. There has been a considerable reduction in the number of drug victims visiting the hospital, which could be due to the stringent actions taken by the police and civil administration in Srinagar,” he said.

According to a doctor at the de-addiction centre, the government has implemented a zero-tolerance policy against drug suppliers and traffickers, making drugs less available in the open market. He also mentioned that the SKIMS Bemina centre has provided treatment to over 1500 affected patients.

As per police sources, 20 cases have been registered in Srinagar so far and 50 peddlers have been detained under the Public Safety Act for involvement in the narco trade. Furthermore, the police have recovered 13.42 grams of brown sugar, 684.33 grams of heroin, and 3.36 Kgs of charas, along with 4734 psychotropic tablets and 38 bottles from the peddlers in Srinagar. Fetterman also suffered a stroke in May, during Pennsylvania’s Senate primary, and was sidelined from the trail for months. He has continued to struggle with auditory processing, and uses transcription technology to help him talk to colleagues and conduct Senate business. Doctors have said that depression is common among stroke survivors.

“I will have more to say about this soon, but for now I want everyone to know that depression is treatable, and treatment works,” Fetterman said. “This isn’t about politics — right now there are people who are suffering with depression in red counties and blue counties. If you need help, please get help.”

Fetterman posted a picture of himself on his Twitter account Friday evening, giving a thumbs up as he got into a vehicle. “I’m excited to be the father and husband I want to be, and the senator Pennsylvania deserves. Pennsylvanians have always had my back, and I will always have theirs.”

McConnell fell on March 8 at a private dinner in D.C. and subsequently was hospitalized for a concussion; he also suffered a rib fracture. He was then moved to an inpatient rehab facility several days later. In the meantime, his condition and return has been the subject of immense interest in the Senate. In consultation with McConnell and his staff, Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) has been helping run the Senate GOP during McConnnell’s absence.

McConnell’s GOP colleagues, including Thune, reported this week that they’d spoken to him on the phone, and McConnell has been texting with them about congressional business. He’s also been keeping tabs on Senate races, texting with Gov. Jim Justice (R-W.Va.) about his possible entry into the West Virginia Senate race.

“I’m in frequent touch with my Senate colleagues and my staff. I look forward to returning in person to the Senate soon,” McConnell, 81, said on Saturday.

The Republican leader also fell and fractured his shoulder in 2019.

  • Hyderabad: Leachate treatment plant is now operational

Hyderabad: Leachate treatment plant is now operational

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The 2 MLD (mega-liters per day) capacity leachate treatment plant, built at the cost of Rs 250 crores is now fully operational to resolve the issues associated with Jawaharnagar dump yard.

The state government’s efforts to tackle the problem took one more leap with the capacity of the treatment plant escalating from 1 MLD to 2 MLD.

Ramky Infrastructure Ltd was assigned the task of building the plant by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

“The issues at Jawahar Nagar and its vicinity have arisen due to unscientific dumping of waste for decades,” said GHMC officials.

Special chief secretary of the state, Arvind Kumar on Sunday tweeted that the plant is processing the leachate into acceptable Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) levels.

Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao retweeted the update and said, “One more progressive step in containing the problems of legacy dump at Jawahar Nagar. We had completed capping with a cost of Rs 140 crore and now Leachate treatment plant also completed.”

The BOD and COD are the parameters that assess the efficiency of leachate treatment and are used to recognise the solid waste stabilisation stage in landfills.

Since Jawaharnagar has been the site of unscientific waste dumping for decades, those living in the vicinities have been facing problems due to the dump yard and airing their grievances which were paid no heed to.

However, the state government’s efforts to find a lasting solution for the problem is expected to wave off the isssue of foul smell, groundwater pollution, and other hazards triggered from the dump yard.

Hyderabad: 13-yr-old dies while undergoing dog bite treatment at Gandhi Hospital

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A 13-year-old girl passed away on Friday night at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. The girl was undergoing treatment for almost 40 days after being bitten by stray dogs in Pochammapalli village on the outskirts of Manokondur Mandal headquarters.

The girl who is identified as Komalla Maheswari was a class 7 student at the Pochammapalli government model school.

As per the details of the incident, the stray dogs attacked her when she was completing her school homework outside her residence. Following the attack, she was rushed to a private hospital in Karimnagar, where she received three doses of anti-rabies vaccine. However, her condition worsened, and she was then shifted to another private hospital in Hyderabad. Due to the high costs of treatment, her family decided to shift her to the Gandhi Hospital on March 9.

Sadly, despite the medical staff’s best efforts, she lost her battle with the injuries sustained from the dog bites.

This tragic incident once again highlights the importance of taking immediate action to address the issue of stray dogs in various districts of Telangana including Hyderabad.

  • Hyderabad: HMWSSB bags award for best sewerage treatment plants

Hyderabad: HMWSSB bags award for best sewerage treatment plants

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Another award bagged by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) from an international magazine called ‘Water Digest’ for the best Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs), 2022 to 2023.

The award was presented to Managing Director Danakishore by Jalamandali Project Director Sridhar Babu on Saturday. Babu received the award from Union Minister for Hydropower Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi on Friday.

Shekhawat termed Hyderabad as “The city that is treating 100 percent sewage water in the country”.

Expressing happiness, Danakishore said “Besides providing drinking water to everyone in the city, the Telangana government is working hard to treat the sewage generated. Chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and municipal minister KT Rama Rao gave a lot of encouragement to these projects.”

Telangana government has sanctioned 62 STPs under Sewerage Master Plan in Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 3,866 crores for the first time in India for 100% sewage treatment, said a press releaser on Saturday.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area daily generates 1,650 million liters of sewage, out of which 772 million gallons of sewage is being treated scientifically through 25 STPs.

The underground water is being released into the Musi River without being polluted. Another 878 MLDs of sewage need to be treated. For this, the government has taken up the construction of 31 new STPs in the first phase in 2022.

The construction works are set to be completed in a few months and the wastewater generated in the GHMC area can be treated 100%.

Amberpet STP is known as Asia’s largest sewage treatment plant. Sewage water starts from Kukatpally Nala. It reaches Amberpet after merging with many nalas in different parts of the city. Around 339 million gallons of sewage are treated at the Amberpet STP and later discharged into the Musi River.

The water obtained by treating sewage is used to water the plants in software company premises through a method called Circular Economy. The solids left after the treatment are then used in biogas production.

  • Marianne Williamson’s ‘abusive’ treatment of 2020 campaign staff, revealed

Marianne Williamson’s ‘abusive’ treatment of 2020 campaign staff, revealed

    [ad_1]

Those interviewed say the best-selling author and spiritual adviser subjected her employees to unpredictable, explosive episodes of anger. They said Williamson could be cruel and demeaning to her staff and that her behavior went far beyond the typical stress of a grueling presidential cycle.

“It would be foaming, spitting, uncontrollable rage,” said a former staffer, who, like most people that spoke with POLITICO, was granted anonymity because of their concern about being sued for breaking non-disclosure agreements. “It was traumatic. And the experience, in the end, was terrifying.”

Williamson would throw her phone at staffers, according to three of those former staffers. Her outbursts could be so loud that two former aides recounted at least four occasions when hotel staff knocked on her door to check on the situation. In one instance, Williamson got so angry about the logistics of a campaign trip to South Carolina that she felt was poorly planned that she pounded a car door until her hand started to swell, according to four former staffers. Ultimately, she had to go to an urgent care facility, they said. All 12 former staffers interviewed recalled instances where Williamson would scream at people until they started to cry.

When presented with details of POLITICO’s reporting, Paul Hodes, a former U.S. congressman who served as Williamson’s 2020 New Hampshire state director, said such descriptions mirrored his own experience working with her.

“Those reports of Ms. Williamson’s behavior are consistent with my observations, consistent with contemporaneous discussions I had about her conduct with staff members, and entirely consistent with my own personal experience with her behavior on multiple occasions,” he said.

In an email to POLITICO, Williamson said such accusations of her behavior were “slanderous” and “categorically untrue.”

“Former staffers trying to score points with the political establishment by smearing me might be good for their careers, but the intention is to deflect attention from the important issues facing the American people,” she said. “This Presidential Campaign expects concerted efforts to dismiss and denigrate us. But the amplification of outright lies should not occur.”

In the same email, Williamson denied ever throwing a phone at staffers. But she did acknowledge that she went to urgent care after getting upset and hitting her hand on a car door, but said a “car door is not a person. I would never be physically hurtful to a person.” She also acknowledged that there was an occasion when she raised her voice in a hotel room and someone came to see what was happening. “I find it hard to believe that people in politics have never raised their voice before,” she said.

Former staffers interviewed noted that tough boss criticisms tend to unfairly be lobbed at female leaders. But they also stressed that Williamson’s behavior was beyond the boundaries of acceptable regardless of her gender. Although Williamson has little shot at defeating President Joe Biden in the 2024 Democratic presidential primary, they said they were motivated to come forward now to warn people who were considering working on her campaign about her treatment of staff.

Those former aides said Williamson’s behavior was hard to predict. She berated staffers for seemingly inconsequential things, like if they booked a hotel room that had a walk-in shower and not a bathtub, they said. She would tell her staff to cancel an event, only to change her mind a day later and accuse them of trying to undermine her campaign. She obsessed over the physical appearance of others and ridiculed staffers for being overweight, according to four former aides. Williamson said she never “mocked anyone for their weight.”

“She would get caught in these vicious emotional loops where she would yell and scream hysterically,” said a second former staffer. “This was day after day after day. It wasn’t that she was having a bad day or moment. It was just boom, boom, boom — and often for no legitimate reason.”

In her year-long candidacy, Williamson burned through two campaign managers, multiple state directors, field organizers and volunteers. Some were let go, but others said they quit because of the campaign’s culture.

In a resignation email sent to Williamson on Aug. 14, 2019, Robert Becker, the campaign’s then-Iowa state director, wrote that Williamson’s treatment of staff was “belittling, abusive, dehumanizing and unacceptable,” according to a copy of the email exchange with Williamson obtained by POLITICO. Becker, who was a controversial hire due to a prior allegation that he forcibly kissed a subordinate while working on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 Democratic presidential campaign, added: “I cannot in good faith subject any future campaign hires to this kind of vitriol. For 30 years I have had zero-tolerance for bullying in the workplace, and that has to include the principle.”

Williamson emailed back: “I did go out on a limb for you, but more importantly I had no idea that you would’ve seen me that way… Hopefully I will learn from what you have said, and hopefully you will not say such things to others.”

Becker did not respond to POLITICO’s multiple requests for comment. POLITICO authenticated the emails with a former Williamson staffer.

Williamson feared that her staff would go behind her back and talk to reporters about her behavior, according to six former staffers, who said she required campaign employees to sign nondisclosure agreements and made clear that they would be strictly enforced. At one point in 2019, she suggested monitoring staffers’ phones, according to one of them, but never followed through with the idea. Williamson denied that she ever suggested doing such a thing.

“The message was: ‘dont fuck with me because I will make your life a living hell.’ So no one fucked with her,” said a third former aide.

Campaigns often use NDAs to protect proprietary information from spilling out into the public. But former aides say Williamson’s use of NDAs went beyond just her full-time campaign staff. Those aides said that Williamson’s personal assistant traveled with NDAs readily available and would ask taxi drivers and other service industry workers to sign them if Williamson lost her temper in front of them. Williamson denied this charge too. However, two former staffers said they witnessed this happen on separate occasions after Williamson started berating staff in cabs to and from fundraising and media events in New York.

“There was a period after the campaign ended where there was intense trauma bonding,” said a fourth former campaign aide. “It was like, ‘What the fuck did we just go through?’”

Campaign staff had conversations among themselves about how to approach Williamson about seeking help for her behavior. But most said they thought it would be an uphill battle given Williamson’s track record of skepticism surrounding mental health and antidepressants. Many said they felt like there was no way to talk to Williamson about such sensitive topics without opening themselves up to her verbal attacks.

“Her perspective on the pharmaceutical industry, those points of views informed her personal actions and not getting medication and help that she needed,” said the second former aide.

While Williamson’s behavior during the 2020 campaign has not previously been reported, it mirrors reporting from 30 years ago when Williamson’s popularity as a spiritual guru was taking off among major Hollywood celebrities following the publication of her first book, “A Return to Love.”

A 1992 People Magazine story profiling Williamson said she had a “temper and unchecked ego, as well as a cruelly abrasive management style” and quoted a former associate who called Williamson “a tyrant.” A Los Angeles Times story published that same year reported that people who had worked with Williamson described her as having “an explosive temper that erupts indiscriminately.”

Still, her behavior came as a shock to most of her 2020 campaign staff, the majority of whom had backgrounds working in politics and only knew of Williamson through her best-selling books and public speaking events encouraging people to harness the power of love and learn to forgive.

Some people said they joined the campaign simply because they needed a job and Williamson was offering them one. Others said they thought that there was room in the race for a dark horse candidate to push people, including Biden, on topics such as reparations. And some said that Williamson’s books on compassion and forgiveness had helped them through their own struggles of divorce, addiction and loss of family members.

Instead, they walked away feeling emotionally tormented.

“It’s cliché, but all I can say is: don’t meet your heroes,” said a fifth former staffer.
