Hyderabad: In order to effectively guide selected pilgrims of Haj 2023, the Haj Committee of India organized a one-day online training program for Haj aspirants across the country. Apart from Telangana, Haj pilgrims from other states of the country participated in the program.

Telangana Haj Committee Chairman Mohammed Salim, Executive Officer B Shafiullah, and other officials participated in the online program at the Haj Committee office while representatives of district Haj societies participated online.

In the training program, the pilgrims are informed about the new changes regarding Haj by the Saudi government. It was emphasized that the pilgrims should be made aware of the precautionary measures and duties and rituals from arrival to departure.

Chief Executive Officer Haj Committee of India Mohammad Yaqoob Sheikh, Mufti Mohammad Manzoor Ziai, Charanpreet Singh Bakshi Joint Secretary Ministry of Minority Affairs, Shahid Alam Consul General Jeddah, Muhammad Hashim Consul Haj Jeddah and office bearers of Customs, Immigration and other departments participated in the meeting.

Chairman Haj Committee Mohammad Salim said that training camps will be organized in Telangana as usual. At the same time, selected Haj pilgrims from Telangana are facing problems as a result of the non-receipt of SMS related to important updates. Pilgrims have to rely on newspapers for important information.

The Haj Committee of India is sending necessary SMS timely, while no local system has been prepared by the State Haj Committee.

The Telangana Haj Committee should introduce an SMS system to keep the pilgrims informed about the training camps, payment of installments, commencement of Haj camp, and other information.

1.75 lakh pilgrims from India will perform Haj this time and extraordinary arrangements are being made by the Government of Saudi Arabia. Efforts are being made to keep the accommodation of Indian pilgrims close to Harmeen.

He said the target of his government was to ensure that the youth of the state sit in high offices.

Mann said the ‘CM di Yogshala’ initiative of his government will act as a stepping stone for carving out a healthy, vibrant, prosperous and progressive Punjab.

This citizen-centric project is the brainchild of the Delhi chief minister and attained a lot of popularity among people, he said.

Mann also said a large number of people in the national capital benefited from this initiative.

People can dial toll free number 7669 400 500 for free yoga training, said Mann, adding that it is a path-breaking initiative aimed at creating a mass movement to carve out a healthy and prosperous Punjab.

The chief minister said the state government is giving major fillip to sports for channelising the unbounded energy of the youth in a positive direction.

He said the sports event ‘Kheda Watan Punjab dian’ was a step forward towards this direction only.

The state government has dedicated more than 500 ‘Aam Aadmi’ clinics across the state to impart quality health services in the state, Mann said.

So far 21.21 lakh patients have benefited from these clinics, he said, adding that lakhs of patients have undergone free tests in merely a few months.

In a relief to the farmers of the state, the government has announced 25 per cent upward revision in the compensation for the crop loss due to inclement weather, he said.

Speaking on this occasion, Kejriwal said for the first time, a compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre will be given to affected growers in Punjab.

Kejriwal said when crops got damaged during the previous regimes, only announcements of compensation were made and farmers used to complain of not getting cheques of compensation.

  • Jammu To Have Int’l-Level Railway Training Academy: Union Minister

Jammu To Have Int’l-Level Railway Training Academy: Union Minister

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Government of India (GoI) is planning to set up an international-level Railway Training Academy in Jammu to educate the technical staff and engineers of the department to develop an understanding of new mountains and Himalayan formations.

As per the news agency KNO, this was revealed by Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, while addressing a press conference at the world’s highest railway bridge here, after conducting an inspection of the track and tunnels on a track-mounted vehicle on the second leg of his two-day Jammu & Kashmir visit.

“I met the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and discussed the land for Cargo Terminals. Land for three is already identified and for the remaining one, the process is in progress,” he said, adding that Cargo Terminals will be of great help in transporting (import-export) the goods in a shorter time and at cheaper transportation cost.

The minister said that the construction work on this bridge started somewhere around 2005-06 but when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over in 2014, he reviewed the project, which is very close to his heart and he desired the design of the bridge for more than 100 years.

“Taking all ifs and buts in mind, the bridge is made in such a way that it is designed for 120 years, which is a big achievement for the entire country. The nation must be proud of our engineers, who transformed the dream into a reality,” he said.

He further said that there were several engineering challenges involved in the projects but the most important was the ‘willpower’ of the leadership. “The willpower of the leadership matters a lot especially when PM Modi took the project into his hands with timely reviews, monitoring, and discussions that made us more encouraged and determined to accomplish the target. Leadership makes a difference,” he said.

The minister said that among others, the foundation design was also one of the major challenges in this project, secondly was the construction of tunnels in the young mountains of the Himalayas.

Earlier, there was only one reliable tunnelling method known as New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) which was accepted worldwide, but it was not suitable for our young mountains, he said, adding, “Our finest brains of our country develop indigenous Himalayan Tunnelling Method’ (HTM) to build tunnels in the Himalayas”.

“A team of engineers desired that the HTM papers be published in journals and the technicalities be adopted worldwide,” he said, adding that the issues of gases in the mountains at the time of tunnelling, were also taken under consideration to prevent fire incidents,” he said.

Stating that the duration from Jammu to Kashmir will be reduced to 3 to 4 hours after the start of the connectivity, Vaishnaw said, “Vande Metro trains from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa will also start very soon that will actually and practically convert both the cities into one.”

“Many rail projects into the Himalayan region are under progress and few are coming up, the Minister said that four PM Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are also coming up in the Kashmir valley (between Banihal to Baramulla) for transportation of Kashmiri items to the rest of the country,” he maintained.

“Everything would be smooth, especially game changer for apple farmers after PM’s ambitious Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals become optional, as farmers easily and affordably transport their crops in any part of the country,” he said, adding, “Similarly many goods including cement, steel will become cheaper in J&K, once transportation fare came down.”

On challenges in the North East, he said, “with challenges viewpoint related to topography, we face some similar challenges but after the completion of this project, the challenges faced in this project and the lessons learned can be shared in the North East projects and the similar can be implemented in this region from the eastern parts of the country.”

Replying to a query concerning Jammu-Poonch Rail Link and making Jammu Railway Station a Division, the minister said, “It is a very difficult terrain but very soon new projects will be undertaken. And, special arrangements will also be made and other technicalities will be looked into for converting Jammu into a Division.”

Vaishnaw also said that with tourism, three spots have been identified from where the bridge is visible and they will be developed as tourist destinations to tap the potential of the region.

He however, on water effects on the nearby villages with the project said, “It is an important aspect and is taken into consideration while a team of WAPCOS (Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited), is already having a detailed scientific study.”

Claiming that the construction of the world’s highest rail bridge on river Chenab is done on a ‘fix it, forget it’ basis

The bridge stands 359 meters above the river bed level and is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower in France, making it the highest in the world.

“As far as the maintenance part is concerned, this project is very very important. The tracks and tunnels are planned and designed in such a way that it requires least maintenance as possible,” the Railways Minister told reporters during a press conference after inspecting the bridge in Reasi district.

The minister said our engineers can get training and learn more about this project so that along with getting skilled, the maintenance, model, and experience of Chenab bridge’s construction can also be utilized in projects in progress or coming up in other parts of the country.

He further revealed that this (Chenab) rail bridge is designed with Richter scale 8 seismic activity. “The foundation has been designed practically which is half the size of a football field,” he said.

The minister said that 28,000 tonnes of steel is used and the welding is around 600 km. “All safety and security measures are taken into consideration. It is a very tough and strong bridge,” he said.

As part of connecting Kashmir to every part of the country, the work on one of the most strategic projects–the 272-km long–Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project(USBRL), has been expedited and is expected to be completed before the 2024 Parliament elections to dedicate the facility to the people of the nation.

Declared a “National Project” in 2002, the Project involves 38 Tunnels (combined length of 119 km), the longest tunnel (T-49) having a length of 12.75 Km, and is the country’s longest transportation tunnel.

There are 927 Bridges (combined length of 13 Km), which include the iconic Chenab Bridge (Overall length of 1315 m, Arch span of 467 m, and height of 359 m above river bed) which will be the highest railway bridge in the world. Indian railway’s first cable-stayed bridge is also being constructed on Anji Khad. (KNO)

  • DCW issues notice to NMC over illegal training for conversion therapy of LGBTQIA+

DCW issues notice to NMC over illegal training for conversion therapy of LGBTQIA+

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking action against illegal trainings on conversion therapy for the LGBTQIA+ community being advertised under the banner of ‘World Congress of Psychologists’

According to the DCW, it has taken suo moto cognizance of an advertisement circulating on social media claiming that an organisation called the ‘World Congress of Psychologists’ with its head office in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, is conducting a three-month training program on psychosomatic disorders which started on March 10.

“The organisation appears to have offered training on tackling 47 different disorders, and has included homosexuality, lesbianism and transvestism in the advertisement,” said DCW in a statement issued on Saturday.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal issued the notice to the NMC Chairman and has sought a copy of the enquiry report in the matter.

The DCW has asked whether the program is being conducted or was conducted in the past and if so, details of action taken against the organisation, its office bearers and trainers as well as whether their licenses have been revoked.

It has also asked for a copy of the guidelines/advisories issued by NMC banning conversion therapy of LGBTQIA+ persons.

“It is an established fact that homosexuality, lesbianism and transvestism are not ‘psychosomatic disorders’. Over 50 years ago, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) issued a resolution stating that homosexuality is not a mental illness or sickness. Conversion therapies are a set of pseudo-scientific practices, targeting the LGBTIQA+ people into changing their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.”

“In a judgment passed by the Madras High Court in 2021, directed th e National Medical Commission, Indian Psychiatric Society and The Rehabilitation Council of India to take action against the concerned professional involving themselves in any form or method of conversion “therapy” including withdrawal of license to practice,” said a DCW official.

“Pursuant to this order, the NMC declared conversion therapy as illegal and considers it in the category of ‘Professional Misconduct’ and has banned the pr actice under the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002.”

The official said that despite these judgements, it is unfortunate that conversion therapy is still prevalent and such programmes as mentioned seem to be organised and advertised.

Maliwal said that it is unfortunate that even in this age, there appear to be organisations in the country who seem to claim that homosexuality, lesbianism and transvestism are apsychosomatic disorders’ and need to be “cured” through conversion therapy.

“This is illegal and perpetuates myths, biases and discrimination in society against the LGBTQIA+ community. Every individual has a right to express their self identified gender and choose their sexual orientation. The Supreme Court has guaranteed these rights. Stringent action should be taken against organisations who indulge in such criminal acts,” she said.

  • KU Mulls Partnership With JK Bank To Facilitate Student Training Under NEP-2020

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A team of senior academics from the University of Kashmir on Friday held detailed deliberations with top-level management of the JK Bank to develop a close linkage with the corporate sector for providing hands-on training to the varsity’s students.

Speaking about the objectives of the developing such linkages, Vice-Chancellor KU Prof Nilofer Khan said the National Education Policy-2020 envisages students to be trained to tackle the real world problems and get exposed to working environments outside the University system.

“The NEP emphasises that students will have to work in the field as part of requirement for completion of their degrees. Such linkages with corporate institutions like JK Bank are therefore very significant,” she said.

The KU team, which held the marathon deliberations at the JK Bank’s Corporate Headquarters in Srinagar, was led by Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Farooq A Masoodi, and included Prof S Mufeed Ahmad from Department of Management Studies, Prof Aneesa Shafi, Dean of Students’ Welfare and Prof Bikram Singh Bali from Department of Earth Sciences.

Giving details about the interactive session, Prof Masoodi said that a joint committee is being constituted to identify areas for mutual cooperation between the two institutions. He said the University of Kashmir proposed to offer some management development programmes (MDPs) for bank officers, besides providing its assistance in project evaluation, monitoring and field surveys.

He said the University expects the bank to provide internship facilities to the varsity students in relevant areas of study.

The management of the bank was represented by Mr Syed Rais Maqbool, Mr Syed Shafat Rufai, Mr Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, Mr Shabir A Bhat and Mr Syed Arshid Qadri.

Telangana: NIA charge sheet 5 in Nizamabad PFI terror training case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi; The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary charge sheet before a special court in Hyderabad against five accused in the Nizamabad PFI case pertaining to criminal conspiracy hatched by PFI members to recruit and radicalise youth and organise training camps to put them through arms training for carrying out acts of terror and violence to make India an Islamic state by 2047.

“The accused are trained Popular Front of India (PFI) cadres who were found involved in provoking and radicalising impressionable Muslim youth, recruiting them into the PFI fold and imparting weapons training in specifically organised training camps. The aim was to carry out violent terrorist activities, in furtherance of the conspiracy to establish Islamic rule in the country by 2047,” the NIA said in its chargesheet.

The NIA chargesheet Shaik Raheem alias Abdul Raheem, Shaik Vahaid Ali alias Abdul Wahed Ali, Jafrulla Khan Pathan, Shaik Riyaz Ahmed and Abdul Waris under the relevant sections of IPC and UA(P)A.

In December 2022, the NIA had filed its first chargesheet against 11 accused in the case after taking over the investigation from Telangana police in August 2022.

“These PFI cadres misinterpreted religious texts and proclaimed that violent form of jihad is necessary to end the sufferings of Muslims in India. Once recruited into the PFI fold, the Muslim youth were sent to the training camps organised by the accused PFI cadres where they were trained in the use of lethal weapons to kill their ‘targets’ by attacking their vital body parts such as throat, stomach and head,” the NIA alleged.

The PFI and its many affiliates were declared as an ‘unlawful association’ by the Ministry of Home Affairs in September 2022 after its involvement in violent activities came to light during investigations carried out by various state police units and national agencies.
